[X] We're your friends, and no matter what we'll stick beside you.

I talked to my sister who is a Physical therapist as well as a psychiatrist what she would do. And she said that being there for her is the best route and we can help her with her issues bit by bit just by being there and being her friends. And now that we are aware of her problems we can better keep an eye on her and there fore prevent anything bad happening.

Promising to continue to be present and to be her friends will get us the chance to work on stuff with her later.

Hopefully, she won't take it the wrong way.

[X] We're your friends, and no matter what we'll stick beside you.

Hope this is the right choice.

Anyways. I wonder what our next move will be? Zelda is in no state to even think about starting up a rebellion. We need to get her somewhere we can start healing her mind and self without too much danger.

Not sure if Kakariko is a good idea given that with the Sheikah Zelda's role as the future potential salvation of Hyrule will be emphasized and she'd be under pressure there.

Maybe Hateno if its still a sleepy backwater?

[X] You can get through this, you're so much stronger than you think you are.

"We're your friends, and no matter (how shitty you are) we'll stick beside you" is not the correct choice for her current mental state, as that is how she's likely to interpret it. It will hit her with more guilt. The 'stronger' vote doesn't accomplish anything, but it doesn't do any more damage.

They are all shitty votes, and I've already said my piece on what I think she'd come to think they mean. But apparently ImmortalsBlade was "summarizing" the responses... so... maybe Link won't totally bollocks it up. Maybe.

Travel around looking for more temples? I mean, that's what Zelda wanted to do in the first place, after all. Maybe we should do what she wants to do for awhile?

Another idea might be to strike the topaz mines, or collapse the trade networks for shock arrows.

We can nibble around the edges of a rebellion, sure; the problem is if we do rid the Empire of shock crystals their only way to preserve order against the Zora will be to slaughter most of them to keep the population controllable. If we're going to start a rebellion we have to be ready to commit to it; if we make some sort of half-measure to assuage our guilty conscience we could end up dooming the idea of a rebellion at all for generations to come.

Yup. Pretty much.

We need to heal Zelda as much as possible, and to get a true Rebellion going we need the support of the Sheikah ninjas as well as as many of the veteran former Hyrule soldiers as possible to put all our ducks in order for a full scale rebellion in the Zora domain to free the Zorah and allow them to escape the Empire.

Problem is that we can't start a proper rebellion without removing shock crystals from the equation, because otherwise the Empire will blackmail us by telling us to stand down or the Zoras get it. I do agree with the midterm however - visiting shrines, healing Zelda, getting support of Kakariko (likely the most important step), and then start spreading rumors about our return, in order to deplete Empire defenses by reallocating forces to look for us.

edit: I don't really have an opinion on the vote except "don't vote for the dense one", so I'm not voting here, since I think this thread still works on FPTP and a choice I'm comfortable with is winning.

And I'm finally caught up, and with time left on the vote too! After careful consideration, I've decided to go with this option.

[X] You can get through this, you're so much stronger than you think you are.

While I think support from her friends is something Zelda really needs right now, I think it's even more important for Zelda to learn to believe in herself. The real her, not the myth. At least, that's how this option reads to me. Now I haven't played Breath of the Wild, though this quest makes me want too, or any other Legend of Zelda game for a long time now. So there might be things I overlook, but I'll try to keep up.

I'm also thinking about what comes after this. First, there's the matter of our new Zora friends, though I doubt it'll come up in the next update. I don't think bringing them with us is an option, they just stand out too much, but I also hate the idea of leaving them here. Even if the monster presence lessens with the Big Octo dead, it's still a horrible situation to leave them in. Of course, this is a home they've been fighting for, and for a long time now. They might refuse to leave!

And there are so many other objectives too. Locating more shrines, destroying monster dens, finding Ganondorf, visiting Kakariko, just to name a few things.

Where do we even start?

[X] We're your friends, and no matter what we'll stick beside you.

You hold Zelda, letting her cry into your shoulder, gently telling her, "Hey, it's alright. It's alright..."

She chokes, barely managing to hiccup out, "I-it's not! I-"

"We're here you, alright? Mipha, Sidon, Undyne, me. No matter what we'll stick beside you."

She looks up at you, glaring through her tears, "W-why?! I'm not-"

"Because we're your friends." You cut her off, and Zelda's eyes widen, "Not because of any titles, or prophecy or anything like that but because we like you for who you are."

Zelda, doesn't respond, resting her head against your shoulder again. It takes her a moment before she quietly says, "I don't deserve it..."

"You don't deserve being friends with a crazy loner you found in the woods?"

There was a snort from the tiny girl in your arms, and you grin, "Oh, was that a laugh I heard?"

"....N-no."

"Then did you just use my tunic as a handkerchief?" You ask, putting on a mock accusatory tone,

Zelda looks up, completely aghast "Wha- NO! H-how could you accuse me of s-something so disgusting!?"

You give her a look, "Says the girl who I distinctly remember excitedly telling me that I need to lick a toad."

"That was for purely scientific purposes!!" She shouts, pulling back to wave her arms, "I didn't know how elixirs worked so-"

"You made me lick a toad. It wasn't even the kind that's used in elixirs."

"I-" She begins, before stopping mid-syllable when she notices you smiling.

"Feeling better now, right?"

Zelda opens her mouth to respond, pauses then closes it with a *click* before blinking, "I.... do, sorta..."

She rubs her eyes, sniffs and realizing the mess her face was, tries to look around for something to blow her nose with. Shaking your head a bit you take off the outer tunic Zelda had made a mess of and pass it to her, leaving you in your white undershirt. Zelda mumbles a thank you before blowing her nose loudly, then tossing the shirt into a corner with a disgusted look.

"I could have washed it out-hey!" You exclaim as Zelda suddenly wraps her arms around you.

"Thank you... for just being my friend...." She whispers, giving you a small squeeze. Then she pulls away, a grin on her face as she lightly punches your shoulder, "I'll wash it out later for you, consider it as paying you back for letting me mess it up in the first place."

You rub the back of your neck, "Hey, you don't have to pay me back anything. I just did what friends are supposed to do..."

"A-ah, hey you two! Everythings ready for you Zelda," Mipha says, finally taking the chance to enter the room.

"O-oh Mipha! Um I....I..." Zelda swallows, before finally saying, "Thank you for all this, truly. You really didn't have to-"

"Hey! That's what friends are for! We're there for you, always..." Mipha trails off, clearly looking if she was mulling over admitting she listened in but Zelda giving a large smile in return cut her off,

"I'm... I'm really truly glad to have friends like you two!"

Mipha face splits into a large, rather toothy grin, and she beckons Zelda to follow, "Let's heal those scars, together."

However when you make a move to follow Mipha gives you an apologetic look, "Sorry, I can't risk getting distracted. I hate to say this, but with the fight and everything, I'll need all of my concentration to draw the power I need from the sacred pool while Zelda's in there. You'll need to stay here."

"That was a perfect excuse Mipha! I'd be too embarrassed-" Zelda whispers to her friend, only for Mipha to turn to Zelda with a very puzzled expression.

"Why would you be embarrassed?" She asks, to which Zelda adopts a very confused expression until she seems to realize something, looks down before sharply turning around and walking towards the door with her ears turning red.

Mipha seems momentarily confused before shaking her head and following the blonde princess out of the room. But before she exits the room she turns back to you with a smile and mouths "Thank you," before quickly jogging after Zelda.

Now alone, you let out a long drawn out sigh before heading out to check on your drying clothes. You'd managed to calm Zelda down, but she still needed far more help than just this. At least, you've hopefully helped her understand she can talk to her friends, that you're all looking out for her. You hope that just being able to talk to you will slowly help Zelda heal, and get her to open up about it whenever she starts to feel anxious or depressed. You wonder, if Mipha would come along with you maybe she'd be able to get Zelda to open up more.

You imagine that the two of you would also work together extremely well, Mipha was incredible in and out of combat and with Zelda the three of you would be unstoppable, surely. But you would never ask Mipha to leave her brother and comrades behind to travel with you, and you don't know if they would leave Lanayru, even to search for help for their plight.

With those thoughts in mind, you step outside where thankfully your clothes had dried against the stone. Quickly changing into them you step back into the room and wait, leaning against the wall with your arms crossed and eyes closed. Years of living on your own had conditioned you against getting bored, and of getting shut-eye whenever you can, so you rest your eyes for a bit.

You are jolted out of your nap a good while later when you hear the sounds of two sets of bare feet against stone, and look up in time to Mipha step back into the room. She was wearing, to your surprise, intricate silver jewelry inlaid with sapphires that glinted mesmerizingly in the sunlight against her red skin, and it gave her an almost ethereal appearance. A blue sash secured with a brooch with a truly massive sapphire in it was wrapped around her, complimenting the jewelry perfectly. She matched in every way the picture of a Zora princess, as though she were something out of a storybook than the girl you had seen ruthlessly cut men down. Mipha smiles when she see's you, scratching her cheek nervously when she realizes you're staring before she gives a small curtsy.

"Uh...Wow Mipha, I've never seen jewelry like that before. Where did you...?"

"I'm glad you like them," She responds, not meeting your eyes for some reason, "We've found quite a few bits of treasure abandoned in this place, mostly jewelry and small art pieces. I may have taken some, for... princess reasons" She states, flashing you an impish grin.

"Princess reasons?" You ask, folding your arms across your chest and raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, though that's not all!" Mipha steps back from the door, and with a dramatic flourish gestures towards it, "Introducing the new and improved Zelda!!"

I coloured this in with Paintschainer, yeah I know it's not great but unless someone with artistic talent decides to colour it in it's the best that's going to show up. The base image was this, which is an edited version of this manga panel
You stare at her, lost for words. Not because you were overtaken by her beauty or the shock of seeing her unblemished and whole in front of you after months of seeing her scarred and in pain but from the wave of nostalgia and familiarity that seemed to wash over you. There was also a... sadness you couldn't place, and an old regret you had never felt before. It almost felt... it almost felt like you had done this before... You tug on your cloak, which seemed to have gotten uncomfortably tight all of a sudden and the mysterious feelings pass, and the warmth that had flared up in your hand suddenly vanished alongside it.

Zelda looks away, playing with her dress, "What's that look on your face Link? Come on... you're making me nervous..."

"It's nothing, sorry. Just... not used to seeing you without the scars," You rub the back of your neck, why was this awkward? "You look good, how's it feel though?"

"Oh, it's all healed up, thank you..."

Neither of you is really good at this...

GAINED:

  • 40 X Big Octo Flesh: This can only be obtained from a Big Octo-type enemy. It's too acidic for cooking, but it's highly valued as an ingredient for elixirs.
  • 3 X Zora Silver Necklace: A silver necklace designed by Zora artisans, it'll never tarnish due to the durable metals used in its creation.
  • 1 X Zora Sapphire Tiara: An intricate headpiece crafted with a durable metal for a religious ceremony. While it is adorned with holy symbols of Nayru and sapphires, it has no magical power.
  • 1 X Zora Princess Vestments: Jewelry and a blue sash chosen by the Zora Princess Mipha. While it lacks magical power, it bears a close resemblance to her mother's sage outfit.
  • 1 X Zora Princess Ankle Bracelets: Intricate silver jewelry inlaid with sapphires. While they were originally part of a religious outfit, they've been claimed by Mipha for personal wear.
  • 2 X Zora Sapphire Necklace: A silver necklace made with intricate Zora designs, inlaid with sapphires. However, it lacks any magical power.
  • 2 X Zora Opal Sash: A silver sash inlaid with opals. Though the empire has tried to replace the Zora's culture with its own, their artistic talents remain in high demand.
  • 4 X Zora Opal Bracelet: Opals are inlaid into this silver bracelet, but sadly it has no magical power.
  • 6 X Zora Silver ring: A silver ring with a rather plain design. These rings often have the symbol of Nayru worked into them.
  • 10 X Zora Decorative Statuette: The Zora use Luminous Stone in all of their stonework, giving these statuettes an almost unearthly glow.
  • 2 X Zora Silver Chalice: A silver chalice inlaid with Zora religious symbols. However, it was probably a personal item.
  • 1 X Zora Silver plate: A silver plate with the symbol of Nayru carved into it. Most likely used in a religious ceremony.
  • 1 X Silver Bow: A bow favored by the Zora for fishing. It doesn't boast the highest firepower, but the special metal it's crafted from prioritizes durability.
  • 1 X Silver Shield: A Zora-made shield adorned with intricate ornamentation. It's said that true masters of this shield can redirect attacks as a rock redirects running water.
  • 1 X Zora Sword: The ornamentation that adorns this blade is a traditional Zora design. It's forged from a very durable and rust-proof metal.
  • 1 X Zora Spear: This spear is a Zora's weapon of choice. It's lighter than it looks due to being made from a special metal and is used by the Zora for both fishing and protecting their domain.
  • 1 X Zora Dagger: Adorned in traditional Zora ornamentation and made of a rust-proof metal, this dagger is designed to easily cut through fishing nets and flesh.
  • 5 X Deku Nut: A nut from a Deku Baba. Dried out, it has undergone a chemical change. Upon impact, it makes a blinding flash, and can be used in many ways such as creating gunpowder.
LOST:

  • 1 X Soldier's Broadsword: A sword brandished by the soldiers of the Empire. Its durable blade is well tuned for slaying men or monsters.
  • 1 X Soldier's Claymore: A two-handed sword designed for combat. It's heavy and hard to use but has decent build quality and durability.
  • 1 X Soldier's Dagger: Adopted from the Hyrulean army this dagger has become a popular tool for the soldiers of the Empire. Strangely, its well-weighted design makes it an effective throwing weapon.
  • 1 X Traveler's Bow: A small bow used by travelers for protection. It doesn't do a lot of damage, but it can be used to attack foes from a distance.
  • 5 X Shock Arrows: An arrow imbued with the power of electricity. It breaks apart on impact, channeling electricity into nearby objects. It's incredibly effective against metal or anything wet.
  • 2 X Hearty Elixir
  • 1 X Sneaky Elixir
  • 1 X Energizing Elixir
  • 1 X Mighty Elixir

When you all meet up with Undyne and Sidon and go through everything you find the results of their impressive find has to be seen to believe. It was a small fortune in jewelry, enough that you could probably buy a house in castle town, admittedly not a very impressive one. Selling and transporting it is going to be an issue, a Hylian walking around with that much treasure would attract a lot of attention, even if they would think you're a treasure hunter. The Zora though? There was nowhere they could hope to sell it, which gave you the impression they were going to give it all to you and Zelda as a parting gift.

The weapons though were far more understandable, as you and Zelda had both lost your own. Zelda takes a bow and dagger, while you take a sword and shield. Mipha even presents you a spear to use as well, with Undyne adding in that you were now one of them. The weapons weren't much better than your soldier gear, but according to the Zora it was far more durable and wouldn't rust or require much maintenance. Which made sense, considering the environment the Zora lived in.

Zelda herself didn't seem very used to being scar free, constantly checking herself in any reflective surface she can find, touching her jaw and neck. Hopefully though, with finally having her old face back, she'll be able to put the scarring behind her, with whatever help she needs from you and Mipha.

With night falling you all quickly make your way back to the Zora's camp. Thankfully there were considerably fewer monsters than there were on the way there, you can only assume that the Big Octo's death had scarred them off for now. When the five of you crash through the underbrush into the camp, the elders all rush to you, absolutely relieved that you had all survived. Undyne immediately launched into explaining what had happened, with Sidon chiming in. Muzu even gives you a gruff acknowledgment for bringing Mipha back safe and sound. Mipha though seemed to avoid the elders, looking over the treasure you had collected and constantly glancing your and Zelda's way. She seemed... distracted and went to sleep early after claiming she was completely dead on her feet, only managing to quickly cast a spell to stave off the ravages of starvation just a little while longer.

Both you and Zelda collapse into your bedrolls, so you don't linger on it too long. The morning. however, gave you the answer.

++++

"But... But Lady Mipha, Lanayru is your home!" Muzu states, utterly shocked at the Zora Princess's declaration.

"It is, but I shall not hide in the wilds another moment longer. We've done nothing for our people here, I've done nothing," Mipha responds as she finishes packing the last of her belongings, "Dying out in the wilds does nothing to help them."

"But you slew the Big Octo! Surely that's enough-"

"And it'll just return the next blood-moon!" She snaps, anger tinged with a hopelessness you hadn't expected, "It's a pointless gesture to our people who are dying in those work camps. Everything we've done for the last eight years has been pointless!"

Muzu steps back as if struck, and Mipha's eyes widen, before lowering her head in shame, "I... I'm sorry Muzu, I did not mean..."

A massive hand places itself on her shoulder, and Mipha looks up to the concerned face of her brother, "Sister..." Sidon begins, "I've seen you suffer silently at our people's plight. How you tried to bury the wounds caused by what happened eight years ago with constant fighting and training. How the constant struggle to survive has made it difficult to see even the faintest glimmer of hope. If you truly believe leaving Lanayru is best for you, I will support you however I can."

"Sidon..."

"No..." Zelda says, stepping forward, "You all need to leave Lanayru with us, not just Mipha."

"What do you mean you Majesty?" Sidon asks, staring at the Princess.

"Lanayru is sick, monsters are becoming more numerous and intelligent, the empire is increasing its slaving operations. You are all some of the bravest people I have ever met, but even you can not fight a war on a thousand fronts."

Sidon bows his head, a serious expression on his face, "Yes, I noticed it too. The monsters there.... they were on us immediately, as if they were a relentless swarm directed towards a single target. I've been alive for over a century your majesty, fought things most would consider legend in defense of my homeland and how they attacked us is something that greatly disturbs me."

Undyne leans back, resting her spear on her shoulders with her arms hooked around them, "Yeah, I could probably take on another Big Octo no sweat, but even I know something's fishy about that."

"Are you saying..." Muzu asks, horror slowly dawning on his face, "That those monsters are.... hunting us specifically?!"

He then immediately whirls on Mipha, "Lady Mipha, you must flee Lanayru at once! I will gladly be a distraction for you-"

"That won't be necessary Muzu," Sidon reassures the old Zora, before turning back to Zelda, "What do you propose?"

"We travel to Kakariko village, home of the Sheikah. There you'll have food, shelter, and with Impa's help surely we can figure out how to free your people!"

Trello steps forward, hands clasped behind his back, "Captain Impa is the greatest warrior I know of, even my dear friend Seggin in his youth never compared to her. While I would prefer to stay in Lanayru to stay in contact with him, My son and his family enlisting her aid would surely be a massive boon to us. Anyone who can claim to fight a Lynel before her eighteenth birthday in single combat is."

That gets your attention. Fighting a Lynel?! You kinda want to spar with her...

Sidon nods, "Then it's settled. We will regroup in Kakariko village, build our strength back up and search for more heroes to aid us!"

Zelda's expression turns grim though, "There's only one problem, getting to Kakariko will take us by many villages and Imperial patrols. You'll need to stay in the rivers, and meet up with Link and I regularly to get the proper directions."

Sidon nods, "Understood, but I would much prefer if one of us traveled with you. Both Undyne and I can keep up with a horse, and Mipha will be able to ride sidesaddle."

Zelda's brow furrows, "But you're all warriors. Unless you have one of those shock collars... Oh."

Mipha nods, a dangerous looking grin on her face as she pulls out one of the shock collars from her pack, "Yep, got this off an Imperial Patrol and smashed it into non-functionality. One of us puts this on and they'll think we're your slave. And considering how expensive these things are from what I heard, they won't even bat an eye if we have weapons, armour or jewelry."

And so a debate began on who should travel with Zelda and you. Sidon and Undyne were both experienced warriors, but Sidon has been a well-known figure in Hyrule for decades and Undyne was... Undyne. Mipha had the benefit that very few people would be able to tell she was the same age the supposedly dead Zora Princess should be thanks to the quirks of Zora biology, and generally could act very un-princess-like but unlike the other two she didn't have decades of experience dealing with people outside of Lanayru and would be learning on the fly.

Eventually, though they decide:

[] Mipha travels with the two of you.
[] Sidon travels with the two of you.
[] Undyne travels with the two of you.
