@NotCaligula if we invest enough into Psyker and Psionic research, would it be possible to give PR-01 either or both powers? I think a giant fuck all sized dreadnought space wizard would be scarcely cool. As in

It's hard to tell.

At the very least, getting the Ship-Sight action done such that PR-01 can actually perceive the warp would be a bare minimum requirement to actually emulate many of the feats associated with Psykers.

But beyond that - where do "PR-01's" capabilities end, and the abilities of the chassis they are mounted in begin?

If way down the line we reverse-engineer Old One and Necron technologies for Warp Manipulation and then PR-01 mounts a Freeform Aetheric Control Tracker or whatever in one of their Artifact Slots, does that make PR-01 a "psyker"?

Potentially yes, but you'd need to invest a lot of time and research to do so. Ship sight alone would be but a first step to that and every step afterwards would come with its own very big risks. Would def need some more research than just psionics though, unless you can get that and Warp Manipulation up to tier 5.

-[X] Use some of your secondary and weaker armaments to evenly soften up the ship for you fighters, with the intent of not outright destroying the vessel. Send out a broadband message stating all personnel within the foreign vessel should move to the aft and away from the exterior of the ship and prepare for evac, and get some intel from them. Keep your distance.
-[X] Send fighters and evac team to start bombing the thickest collection of pitch black substance and destroy the weapons it's trying to form to hopefully delay it's encroach to the rear of the ship. Once their ships are close enough get some better scans of the exterior and interior of the ship, then have some of your pilots harass the sections slowly moving towards the aft.

-[X] Ceriox (something, feed PR-01 intel duty old man)
[X] Boarding Focus: If you do desire to properly board the vessel it may be worthwhile to engage in a pronged offensive with your space assets bombarding the infected sections and your infantry assaulting those few sections that lack any presence of this infection. How exactly your soldiers might fare is rather ambiguous given the unknown nature of this entity but given that it seems focused on purging the hull of the living for some reason it seems clear something of importance is inside. Even if your ground forces cannot fight it well, they might be able to evacuate and save whatever or whomever still lives in the ship's depths. (Space and boarding focused operation, will use space and ground assets and will likely leave much to salvage or save if executed well. Mutually exclusive with Bombardment Focus.)

With 26 votes to 23 Bombardment focus has won. I'll assume any votes for tactics without assigned units or heroes to be a vote for any plan with those and as such you'll be using the following generated plan:

-[X] PR-01 (prowess, ship related duty)
-[X] Grachis Fal (martial, tactical general duty)
-[X] Ceriox (something, feed PR-01 intel duty old man)

With the Prometheus acting as your only deployed fighting ship PR-01 will be fighting the infested ship while Ceriox runs some intel work and Grachis prepares to defend the internals of the ship and aid with command.

Rolls for the fight and Ceriox's / Grachis's aid will come shortly.

Welcome to the Ghoul Stars, Part 2:
Ceriox Aid: 62 + 9 (Intrigue) + 10 (Trade Captain) = 81 vs DC 45. Success.
Grachis Aid: 7 + 30 (Martial) + 10 (Inspiring Leader) + 15(Revolutionary Theoretician) = 62 vs DC 45. Success.
PR-01 vs Infested Ship Round 1 : 32 + 50 (Prowess) + 10 (Martial) = 92 vs 71 + 45 (Prowess) = 116. Success for the Infested Ship.
PR-01 vs Infested Ship Round 2 : 59 + 40 (Prowess) + 10 (Martial) = 109 vs 38 + 45 (Prowess) = 83. Success for PR-01

Set on destroying the vessel yourself, and with a steely heart held for those still living inside you set out to destroy this ship with your main gun, it's clear deformation and infestation is simply not something that can be allowed to approach the planets of Vareena. Perhaps you'll find some that are able to survive in the void of space until the battle is done, but your duty is to the New Confederation and its erstwhile neighbors, not unknown intruders.

Your attempts to destroy it however are not especially effective. While you're able to charge your main gun quickly, its erratic movement has made it avoid each and every shot you've attempted to take. Even worse, several sections of the ship have caught fire as ancient repair jobs have met their ends in the face of high amounts of energy routing through their systems. None are severe enough to cripple your capabilities and the fires aren't causing much new damage but they've taken almost all of the attention of your onboard crew to combat; Grachis and his soldiers among them.

Despite your best calculations as it creeps closer and closer to the planets your shots continue to miss and it continues to speed up. You've been approaching it yourself to put something between the planets and it but this turn of events may have been an error, as Ceriox panicked and began to relay information on vast amounts of near undetectable matter that has been sloughing off the ship and flying towards the Prometheus. With some quick maneuvers of your own that your thrusters really don't appreciate, you thankfully avoided being struck by the vast majority of the matter and with your shields fully up even the slowest moving bits of material were still shifted into the Warp, ensuring the safety of you and your crew.

With constant updates on the direction that the vessel has shifted to avoid being within broadside range from Ceriox you're at least quite able to keep the Prometheus in roughly the right place to prevent the ship from getting any closer to the planets without you being in the way of its work, but the dogged pursuit continues to damage a number of your systems that Grachis has only just kept working with quick thinking and a few of your subroutines at his beck and call.

However, this all changed once it reached the outer gas giants of the system, as it began to use the planets themselves as cover while keeping itself outside of scanner range. It was largely successful in doing so, as it skipped between the furthest reaches into the center of the solar system and ambushed you as you attempted to intercept it. Smashing a flood of matter and metal into your frame it shattered your void shields for just a moment, but in that time flooded you with its gnashing tar-like bodies while using a small chunk of its starboard side to do so. The maneuver certainly damaged your ship badly, but you at least have the consolation that Grachis was at least able to hold the line against the various monsters attempting to board and was able to reach a successful stalemate once you were able to seal most of the corridors around the crash zone.

With it finally within range of your broadsides however you unleash hell upon its form, blasting away whole sections of its exposed hull and finishing off the close encounter with a partially charged shot from your main gun as you spun about. It still remained in one piece even after such an intense rain of fire, but you sheered off a good section of the front alongside the infestation, revealing to your sensors just how deeply this ship had been claimed with its tendrils only more and more common within the deeper reaches, the metal of the ship itself now beginning to fuse with the creature.

It's much closer to the planets now, and you've both begun to take damage but neither of you are out of the running yet, though much of your crew have been injured or damaged in the fighting. If you do not stand in its way again it will be within range to invade any of the planets that it likes.

Effects: PR-01 sustains 1 wound while the Infested ship sustains two. Grachis prevents any wounds from being inflicted to Heroes on the Prometheus. Ceriox prevents the infected ship from arriving near the planets for an additional round.

Deployments: In this combat, and most others you will have the choice of deciding which units and heroes you would like to deploy to this conflict. PR-01 counts as both a hero and dreadnought unit. Otherwise all heroes used must be assigned to a unit of your choice. Some tactics may require you to deploy a hero to simply engage in some other act, and it is assumed that any additional heroes assigned to unit past the one with the highest martial skill to be aiding in other ways. These additional assignments will be beneficial but they will not add or subtract from rolls made for combat.

Please specify which units are being deployed to which tactics, and which heroes are attached to the units. Combat rolls will not be made unless the unit that is deployed is capable of fighting in this environment. You may choose which stats assigned heroes are to be used to support other heroes, but the assigned hero on an action with the highest martial skill has to be commanding the unit it is assigned to. Units that are also heroes like PR-01 will always use their own martial skill even if other heroes are assigned. Selected stats will generally give a specific sort of result: Diplomacy may make units surrender or reach a ceasefire, Stewardship or Learning may help prevent wounds, Martial will keep heroes safe and intrigue will generally attempt to prevent enemy units from fulfilling their goals.

Heroes: Sila, Maximilian and Sister Amara are available for assignment. PR-01, Grachis and Ceriox are already deployed.
Units: One unit of Fighters and Two units of Infantry available for assignment.

Tactics:
[ ] Bombardment Focus: As it stands you have far too few assets for the safe invasion of another vessel and no idea of the capabilities of this anomalous infection it bears. The safest option in this case would be to fight this ship with direct fire from your main guns and whatever other options you can spare to the fight. (Space focused operation, will only use space assets and will likely leave little to salvage or save. Will roll two rounds of combat per unit to kill it quicker but at the cost of losing whatever might be within. Mutually exclusive with Stalling Focus.)

[ ] Stalling Focus: With it being closer to the planets now it may be worthwhile to attempt to prevent its approach more directly, even if it might come at a cost to you. While putting yourself or other forces in the way of its travel should save the planets from their touch its almost certainly going to hurt to do so. (Space focused operation, will only use space assets and will attempt to prevent the ship from advancing deeper into the solar system. Will roll one round of combat per unit and kill it slower while still leaving little for salvage. Mutually exclusive with Bombardment Focus.)

[ ] Scramble Forces: More ships and personnel are rarely a bad thing in a fight. With battle already begun you'll need someone else to prepare those being deployed for the current conflict but it may very well be needed to prevent the invasion from reaching the planets of the Vareena system. (Autosuccess. Prevents any newly deployed units and heroes from receiving debuffs from being rushed to the front, requires a Hero specifically assigned to this tactic.)

[ ] Write In:

AN: Okay I'm clarifying a bit more about the mechanics and from here on out I'll be doing a four-ish hour moratorium for this combat just so people can write some plans before votes come in and because its the middle of the night for the Americas. I'm not 100% set on the balance but hopefully this second part should make things a bit clearer and work a little closer to how I intended this to. Still experimenting with this heavily so if you've got ideas or critique of this please bring it up, I'm kinda just throwing this out here as a test to see what works. Please try to vote in a plan way this time around, I should have specified that last time.

[ ] The Answer is More Violence
-[ ] Maximilian assigned Scamble Forces Action
-[ ] Sila uses her divinitation to help guide PR-01 (no debuff if it's only just helping us?)
-[ ] Sister Amara on comms duty to see if there were actually any survivors still alive, or just the monsters making white noise to attract attention
-[ ] deploy fighters to disable its engines and shoot down any large masses or projectiles fired by it.
-[ ] infantry units in PR-01 are to aid in defenses against boarding actions
