The train didn't take us all the way there. Of course not, that would have been too simple.

We solved it anyway, we just had to risk flying... which meant that to avoid getting spotted, we needed to fly low. Very, very low.

Which meant being visible even through a blur spell, that thing only worked at range. And invisibility spells either lasted for thirty seconds or left you unable to see out of it!

So it was time to get sneaky about it.

I couldn't focus on keeping up two channeled spells at once and still fly, and it was hard enough to project an invisibility spell around one dragon - yet alone two. Zrazta wasn't enough of a spellcaster to pull it off either.

Instead I rode on top of Zrazta, clinging to her armour between her wings while in mortal form.

Quicksmithing a pair of handholds was easy enough without compromising the armour, then I just needed to hang on while keeping a invisibility spell around us, and a scrying spell to show the outside of the bubble on the inside - at least in front of her.

Forty minutes ago, it seemed like a great idea.

Now? Now I wasn't so sure anymore.

"Atregos? How are you handling it?"

"...I'm fine."

"I'm landing."

"Keep going," I answered, trying to peer past her at the illusionary view while focusing at keeping the spells stable, "Can't be long now!"

Her wings stabilize as she started to beat them steadily again, "If you are sure."

Alexis, unless you are in mortal danger I'll kick your arse all the way back to London. Could it have hurt you to pick up a phone to call your family!?

"Atregos!"

Her voice pulled my attention forward once more as we rose over a mountain peak to see a castle in the distance.

No, that's wrong. Calling it a castle was a understatement. It was a castle the same way New York was a city. It didn't really translate well.

"Put us down!"

Zrazta banked and circled down for landing on top of the mountaintop and I slid off her, returning the handholds to her armour again in passing. Landing on the ground, I allowed the spells to fade away as she returned to mortal form.

"What do you think?" she asked as she looked at the castle across the valley.

It was massive, with towering... well, towers. Long walls and large windows. It was next to a large, deep lake and some way away from the castle was a small village, maybe a couple of hundred buildings.

"No idea," I said with a frown, reaching into my satchel, checking my phone. Dead.

Huh.

Putting it back into my pocket, I looked at the castle across the valley. There were people moving around on the grass covered grounds. It was quite far even for a dragon's eyes, but they looked small... children? All of them?

Why would there be a castle full of children?

Reaching up, I touched the tracking necklace and channeled my magic into the spell, feeling the connection form.

Alexis was close and in that direction. She was down there.

Zrazta moved up next to me, "They are all wearing the same thing."

"Now that you mention it, it almost seem like some kind of uniform..." I started to say and then frowned in thought, "Children, wearing uniforms... either that's a camp with child soldiers, or that's a school."

The fuck is going on here!?

Zrazta frowned at me, "Are we going down there?" and then shook her head, "Stand still," she then ordered and reached up to try to get my hair back into its normal ponytail.

I suffered through it, "Next time, you ride."

"I think that can be arranged," she answered with a smirk, "But the question is what to do now?"

"Well, the options are to either turn around and go away, or find out what's going on. We'll go down there."

Zrazta nodded as she finished with my hair, "Is there a way we can contact her from here?"

"Not really, no."

Damn it, Alexis is the one with the bird summon that can track people. I'm so having her teach me how to do that!

But distance communication would be a good feature to add to the necklaces... even if range wasn't unlimited, it would be really useful. Wonder how hard that would be?

That's for later. Now to get down there.

Ok, so she's actually in Hogwarts, as opposed to being locked up in the Ministry or Azkaban or whatnot. That at least lends to the idea that she's there more or less voluntarily, rather than being forced (for all that Hogwarts is supposed to have wards/protections/etc... it's not set up to imprison a living being, let alone one with a Planeswalker's abilities).

As it turned out, getting down there wasn't quite as difficult as you would think, just tedious and involving hours of walking unless we wanted to glide down there.

Too risky this close, the invisibility spell didn't do a thing to hide magic. If you had some way to see magic, it would shine.

So by the time we got down from the mountain and reached the edge of the forest night had set. Zrazta pressed her back against the thick tree trunk and then leaned to peek around it.

"Well?" I asked next to her.

She glanced back at me and then nodded, "Seems clear? Nobody in sight at least."

If it was a school, I wasn't surprised. It was an hour after sunset, there likely was a curfew of some sort if it was a boarding school.

Nodding, I scooted up to look as well. A lot of the windows were lit from the inside, but a lot were not as well. This close, the castle seemed even larger than up from the mountain.

This place, while not at the scale of The Nexus, was certainly bigger than the Red Keep.

Weaving a quick spell, I activated my magic sight and almost instantly cancelled it again, closing my eyes and looking away.

Son of a fucking bitch!

"Atregos?"

"…I'm fine…" I answered, rubbing my eyes and blinking at the dark forest, "This place shines with magic. That explains why the connection to Alexis' necklace was so fuzzy."

"Any defences?"

"No idea," I answered, "Couldn't see, but it'll surprise me if none of that was defensive wards."

Zrazta frowned and scanned the vicinity, "So what do we do?"

"Knock on the door?" I suggested, "I mean, she is in there somewhere, and I really don't like the odds of sneaking inside, then looking through a castle of that size to find her without getting spotted."

Zrazta nodded, "…Okay. So, walk up and knock?"

"Pretty much."

With that, she rounded the tree and started towards the main gates. I quickly moved to follow her, pulling my weapon from my satchel and strapping it back into its place in my belt.

Couldn't wear it openly on Earth normally, but there was no way I was going in here unarmed. Besides, it currently looked like a dagger, nothing bigger.

"So…" I asked and looked at the large wooden gate, "Do you want to or should I…?"

Zrazta reached up and knocked firmly on the large gate, and then we waited. Silence. Nothing happened.

I looked at her and she looked at me in turn before I shrugged, "We just walk in?"

"I guess?" she answered and knocked again.

Still nothing for a long moment, so I just reached and pulled at the handle. The large wooden gate slowly but smoothly swung open, allowing us inside.

Inside was nice and warm, lit up by candles by the walls and in high chandeliers. There was a set of large stairs at the other end, flanked by a pair of smaller doors. To the right there was another massive door, this one closed.

"I don't know what I expected," I said and let the door close behind us, "But somehow, this fit better."

Zrazta looked around curiously, "Nice."

Reaching for my necklace, I tried the tracking spell again. Even this close, things were a bit fuzzy, but I got a direction from here too.

"That way?" I suggested and motioned towards the stairs, "Necklace say it's that way and up."

Nodding, Zrazta started in that direction, letting me take up the rear. I looked around before moving along before I smiled quickly as a thought hit me.

Dragons do not intentionally infiltrate!

"This way," I said and moved to the right, "I think."

"You think?"

I shrugged, "It points in that direction, but who's to say the castle has an easy path to where it's pointed? And I think we need to go up a floor or two too."

"I suppose," she sighed, and then twitched, spinning towards the right, "that painting just moved!"

I looked over. It was a painting of an old man, leaning against an earthglobe, a pipe in his mouth.

It was stock still.

"Nothing there, love," I said and looked at her, "Relax, we'll find Alexis and get out of here. Then we'll find somewhere far from civilization and just relax."

She frowned at the painting and then sighed again, "…That does sound rather nice. Wasn't that the point from the start?"

"It was," I agreed and took her hand, "Come on, let's go before we are caught."

I glanced back at the painting as we moved on. The old man in it were gone.

Yeah, that's not freaky or anything.

Well, to be fair to the two dragons, they did knock first. Not their fault that no one came to answer and that the door was unlocked.

Several times I could have sworn that I saw paintings move as we made out way through the castle's maze-like corridors, but anytime we looked closely they were still.

The place was quiet, dark, and quite frankly creepy.

And this is from someone that's fought his way through tombs filled with undead. Zrazta didn't seem to like it anymore than I did.

"I smell death."

I looked at her, "I'm not smelling anything."

"Not smell... death magic," she said and frowned, "Or something like it. There is something not alive here."

That's something most people don't realize about Red Dragons. They are closely tied to Life… and by that, also to Death. Alexstrasza could be a Necromancer to put the Lich King to shame if she wanted to.

...But death magic was an abomination. None of the Dragonflights used it.

"Let's find her and get out of here," I said and stopped by a door, "Here," I then added and dropped my necklace back against my armour.

Zrazta nodded and knocked on the door.

Silence for a moment before there was sound of movement behind it, and it pulled open to reveal Alexis. She was wearing a dark robe, her hair a bit shorter than I remembered, pulled back in a short pony tail.

She froze when she spotted us and just gaped, "…Atreus… Z-Zrazta! How the hell did you find me!?"

"Tracking necklace," I said with a smile, "Hello Alexis."

"Hey… um… come in!" she then quickly added and moved out of the way, allowing us inside. It looked like…

It actually reminded me a bit of my old office at the mansion before we left Azeroth - if in stone instead of wood. A fireplace to the side, a heavy oak desk, and bookshelves filled with books, scrolls and various junk.

Grinning, I gathered the human up into a quick hug before letting go, "So, I take it you are in fact not in need of rescuing from this very, very strange place?"

Alexis grinned and released the hug, then gave Zrazta a quick one as well. The dragoness accepted it and hugged back.

"I'm fine," she answered with a nod as she let go of the other dragon, "But I was a bit surprised to discover that Earth did actually have magic."

"Yeah, no kidding," I answered with a grin, "Same here. Strange people too."

"A bit, yeah," Alexis agreed, "But nice enough for the most part," she said before she frowned, "How did you even get here!?"

Zrazta shrugged and jumped up to sit on the desk, "Flew on one of those machines, walked, then train, then flew for real and then walked. This Plane is annoying to travel on."

I nodded, "Speaking of which, would it have killed you to pick up a phone and call your father?"

"…I did say I would be away for a bit on my last phonecall. I was just finding out about this and well…"

"Long story short: He was kidnapped. We saved him, but he's worried about you. Call him."

"Kidnapped!?"

Zrazta nodded, "Your father is fine," she said, "We rescued him with the assistance of his Consort after we arrived on this Plane. But he's worried for you."

Alexis swallowed, "I-I need to find a phone!"

"Don't you have yours?"

She shook her head, "Electronics don't survive Hogwarts. I discovered that the hard way. If you brought any, you need new ones."

Damn it.

"Hogwarts?" I asked with a frown.

"The castle. The school you are in. I need to go!"

I grabbed her arm as she moved past, bringing her to a halt, "Alexis, deep breath. Your father is fine, he is in London. Hilton Hotel, room 3452."

Alexis took a deep breath and nodded, "Thank you. I-I'll be back as soon as I can. I promise!" she then added and ran out, the door closing behind her.

Zrazta looked at me and I looked back at her,

"So…" I asked, "What now?"

Zrazta shrugged, "Stay here until she returns, I suppose," and jumped off the desk, walking over to look at one of the bookshelves, pulling a tome off it.

Not a bad idea. Actually, getting out of here would be easy enough, could just portal to New York. Still, that would make it a pain to get back. Besides, we really should take advantage of this and learn as much as we could.

Nodding in agreement, I moved to join her feeling the tension of the last week starting to melt off me. Alexis was safe and we were in a place Alexis clearly considered safe. Grinning, I slipped my arms around her waist from behind and nuzzled at her hair, reading over her shoulder as she leaned back against me.

If it's following the timeline of the books, Snape is dead.
Well, he can just walk through the door then. :p

Seriously, though, I missed (or forgot) entirely any indication of where they were in the books. Are you going by the actual year on Earth for that plane? I'm so used to Fanfiction moving HP to 'current times' that I probably wouldn't have given a thought to that.

@ptbptb , A lot of stories just ignore the date things happen, especially in crossovers. Better to figure out by matching events. Alexis could be replacing the smiling guy (I forgot his name) for DADA teacher.

As for what is going to happen, well the headmaster should know about the unregluar visit by now. And will probably walk in on those two finally celebrating a real vacation, in a biblical way. Hmmm, will they realize the room will expand to accommodate their natural forms?

Headmaster to Alexis later. "Alexis, you do realize dragon breeding is a specialized profession, correct? And usually not done at this school, especially in one's flat??!"

A sound caused me to look up from the book only to see Alexis closing the door behind her.

"Oh god." she groaned, putting her back against the door. "Thanks for finding me."

"Welcome," I said and closed the book. "Found him?"

Alexis nodded and walked over, sinking down into her chair by the desk. "Yeah. I should have called earlier. I'm such an idiot!"

Zrazta slowly stirred awake in the other comfy chair before the fireplace, yawning as she stretched. "Mmm… is it morning?"

"Sun will be up soon in any case." Alexis answered, rubbing her eyes. "Sorry I woke you."

Zrazta groaned and got up, stretching again. "Mmm… is fine. Is there a bathroom somewhere?"

Alexis nodded. "Out the door and to the left, five doors down."

"Thanks."

I put the book on the small table to the side and got up to sit in the chair across from her desk. "So, what is this place?"

Alexis sighed. "That's a long story."

"I figured," I answered and smiled. "Hidden world of magic on Earth of all places. What the hell?"

"About my reaction too," Alexis agreed. "Short version, I was on vacation to London, you know, seeing the sights? Anyway, I turned the corner and somebody 'teleported' in. Of course, I followed him."

"Of course."

She shot me a look. "Don't tell me you wouldn't have, I know you, you big lizard!"

Guilty. I would have followed him too.

I shrugged.

"Long story short, I stumbled into the Diagon Alley," she said. "and I ran into some people and ended up teaching here."

I stared at her. "…A bit too short. I think you skipped a couple of steps in the middle there."

She grinned. "Tomorrow." she said before she frowned, "…or today. I'm exhausted and I don't think you got any sleep either. Not with brand new books around."

Fair enough. And now that she'd mentioned it, I was pretty damn tired.

"Sounds pretty good, actually." I said and leaned back against the chair. "Wait, you teach?"

"Mhmm."

"…Doesn't that mean that you have classes tomorrow/today?" I asked her.

That got a groan from her, her hands covering her face. "Oh fuck."

I couldn't help but smirk at her. "Serves you right for not calling," I said before I frowned. "…Wait, what the hell do you teach anyway? From what I've seen of these people's magic, it's nothing like what you can do. What either of us can do?"

"Muggle studies."

"What?"

The fuck is a muggle?

She smiled. "The world of magic here is kind of isolated from the rest of humanity. Muggle studies is where the kids are taught the basics they need to… blend in. More or less. Learn what traffic lights is and such. How to pay for things."

"…Huh."

"Like I said, rather isolated. It's mostly for those raised entirely away from the normal world."

"Why are they even hiding in the first place?"

Alexis shrugged. "Not sure. Fear and numbers. From what I've been able to figure out, there are only about maybe twentyfive thousand magic users in Great Britain. Million or ten world wide. Things were more open in the past where they passed as the old pantheons, but technology advanced and non-magicals became more and more numerous… they hid.

"That's stupid."

"Fear usually is." she said and then frowned. "…Didn't the Blue Dragonflight do something similar?"

"Nothing like it!"

She grinned and shook her head. "Come on, let's head to bed."

"Oh my..."

Alexis blinked and then facepalmed. "Oh god. I'm too tired to deal with you right now," She sighed and got up. "Come on, let's find Zrazta and find you two somewhere to sleep before I drink two gallons of coffee to try to survive today."

Nodding, I got up and rubbed my neck. "That sounds good."

Leaving the office, we headed left to find Zrazta. And so we did.

She was laying on the floor, a woman in a dark robe was kneeling over her while a man was standing guard, a wand in hand.

I growled at the sight, pulling my dagger.

Alexis froze. "Oh shit," she said before she looked at me and her eyes went wider. "Oh shit!"

hmmm, somebody messed up and might be about to get ganked depending on how they react. But Alexis will probably play peacemaker if we're being realistic.

"Oh shit, someone attacked Zrazta." followed, closely, by "Oh shit, Atregos is already in attack range!"
Woman in a dark robe and a man standing guard doesn't tell us too much yet. My imaginary money is on McGonagall and one of Snape/the DaDA teacher this year, but I'm just not sure enough yet to wager much on it...

I still am going to have to blame them for what looks suspiciously like 'shoot first, question never' with someone who entered through an unlocked door. But unless this is Book Six or something and those are Death Eaters, they probably don't deserve to die for it. (Though, they might have used an Obliviate - in which case they may end up a little maimed, mentally or physically, to match the mental maiming they performed.)
(If they are Death Eaters, then they had better hope that Zrazta had a soulstone active or that they were smart enough to Stun her for questioning rather than trying to kill her. It might not save them, but they'd have a chance.)

Also: Yessss! Spent a lot of time reading the story on Spacebattles, I'm glad to be able to read it here where I can actually comment. Hi, Hiver, I like many of your stories although I have not read near to all of them... yet.

i assume Snape shot first, Mcgonagal is tending to her and was about to wake her up and Snape is about to have a broke nose.
