No no no, it is totally a lumberjack mech. What do you mean the chainsaw could hurt people? Perish that thought. :V

I mean interchangeable components could stretch into mech loadouts, or it could be used to make a mech's legs into spare parts for hands.

Fingers crossed that this is useful across the board.

Time to pull an Oshkosh and figure out the real money is in logistics vehicles.

Six plusses is a lot, and building around this will probably be more fun than making everything ever a hexapod.

Beetle Mechas are the future. Cry about it, bipeds.

Tbh I'm more interested in the stuff the hydraulics can do, than the modularity

Hexapedes call out to me. They promise a future of spider-mechs scuttling about and wigging out many a non-Frenchman. Unfortunately, on balance, that would restrict us to a particular leg style, and we should be free to inflict the horror that is France on our enemies via whatever legs we so wish.

To that end,

How common are interchangeable parts in designs? Or is that something we'd have to 'innovate'? And if we do, how useful would they be? I'd expect extremely, but I'm not sure how much of the mess that are mechas mean that the time, maintenance and expensive savings would actually materialise.

Pretty common: this is more about moduals and complex assembly, though, not simpler things. That being said, there are a lot of precision and hand-fitting or it just won't work: see, gait control modules.

When I heard integrate with other systems guess what I thought of?

Hands!

Again you're going toe to toe with the Germans on this...

Best and most realistic reason anyone's given so far for this tbh. A lot of people are overestimating how good the interchangeability is, since you've got about three or four more mecha designs on this character, and I can garuntee one of these future designs won't get the Prime Mover buffs at all and one might, with the last one being a clean-sheet before we move on to the Atompunk stuff.

Specialization is good, actually. If you want to be the best at something, and all. Might as well go for spiders.

Everyone going for the Mecha PhD because they give the most pluses, remember we only get them if the mecha meets the requirement in the option, and we know that not all of our future mecha will. Meanwhile all the Engineering degrees will always be active no matter what we are building. Prime Movers is not a flat +6, it's +6 or +0. Same with Hexapod, though that's only a +3 max. I'm assuming that we will have more chances to make hexapod mecha though than prime movers. We already know 1 mecha can't get the prime mover bonus, and another one might not qualify either. But we could still possibly make them hexapods and get that bonus.
