If we went with the French rocket could we potentially make a launcher that can fire them individually and if wanted fire the whole thing at once?

If recoil is a problem we could copy C&C's Juggernaut solution of adding stabilizing struts on the legs for extra stability before firing.

The MG with explosive ammo can take out any infantry or light vehicle that is too fast for our main gun.

A mortar or rocket will have have worse accuracy than a cannon so I want a machine gun with some some punch to give us some reliability.

I am also intrigued by this new rocket. We get a lot of leeway in actually modifying it which is nice. And that power seems glorious.

Legally speaking your options are only ball, incendiary, and tracer. Anything under 37mm isn't allowed to have airburst ammo, and under 15mm can't be explosive at all. Blame the Hague.

Absolutely.

....I just want to see what we can do with the rocket.

Imagine the different warheads we could put on the rocket. Possibly some form of incendiary round and shrapnel round as well

Rockets, especially "fire the whole pod" rockets, leave you Really likely to end up in a situation where there's an enemy right in front of you and you have no ammo, compared to shell firing weapons. That's always bugged me. They absolutely make sense as a secondary weapon, but the lack of combat endurance and flexability is an Issue that makes them Really questionable as a main weapon.
Missiles are a different story, given the much more reliable ability to achieve a kill with every missile (mind you, they also Cost a hell of a lot more per kill than is usually the case with shell firing weapons)

we can redesign the Reibel to take a belt feed

Drums tend to be a little unreliable even when they're not mounted to a mech and difficult to swap out.

[X] 58mm Crapoulliet mortar

Proper tanks tend to like big cannons, shooting stuff at high velocity, but mechs really won't - when stability matters, minimizing recoil is important, which means big HE projectiles moving slowly.

I do want something punchy as well, which rules out the mountain gun. Either kind of rocket would be okay... except for the inability to reload. Running back to resupply every time you get in a fight seems bad, and mounting enough rocket tubes to counteract both that and limited accuracy seems heavy.

Edit: Removed one vote since this is not approval voting. Sorry, I forget sometimes which quests use it and which don't.

It took little discussion with Niels to determine that if you were to use these, they would require extensive work to make palatable- but if you wanted to put that work in, the resultant weapon would let you strike like a god.
I am goin for the Mortar.

Go big or go home is the mortar weapon, either we don't fix the accuracy and it becomes a big boom in the general area weapon, or we get it right and get an extremely tank/mech destroyer mech, which is what seems to be what they want from this mech.

I'm thinking some rockets backed up by the mountain gun.

Light machine guns are for nerds and the infantry. HMGs are heavier, but not that much heavier on a 20-ton vehicle, so why not use a weapon that can work against more than just unprotected infantry.

rockets would be neat to see made work, but I'd rather mount something fairly sensible (if concerningly large for the time) for our first respectably-armed mecha.
