Matter of Faith (BTVS / OC)

Reasking this question.

Are there any downsides if we call for a quest and we don't even try to complete the quest or fail to complete it?

Can we call for more than one quest at a time?
If you fail to complete it, you fail to complete it. It just doesn't appear again. If you let more than a few quests fail I might issue consequences though.

One quest at a time for simplicity sake.

We will have basically the same amount of day time freedom no matter how much our dad supports us. The Gm already said we can take a day or two off no problem, but doing it too much is a bad idea.

So, yeah, we can take off, but too much is bad for school and I don't think the others would go for that, so occasionally during school days we can play take off but not often. This doesn't really change with supportive parents. Most daytime non-school stuff will take place during the weekend, and most parent's generally let you go out and do what you feel like on those days.

As to the whole staying out late thing? Meh, from what we saw of the family I don't think he has much of a curfew.

Alternatively, we could just do holy flamethrowers.

It's actually way simpler, easier, and cheaper to make, and it's sort of less noticeable than explosives. Also, in some states it's legal.

Hell, it's simple enough that we can probably make them without getting Jet involved.
Clear general misunderstanding should be good, the world is dark place,I don't want family and friend got caugh off guard.

Good to know.

Probably for the best, as if there were no downsides and we could have as many as we want I was totally gonna vote we spend a couple days casting that spell as often as possible. I can imagine that might have been a pain.

Also, I find it in bad form that we're trying to Railroad her into being a Slayer. It should be something she chooses to do. If she wants to give it up, that's her prerogative.

I'm starting to wonder if anyone in this quest has actually seen Buffy, Slayers don't choose to become Slayers and the only way to give it up is to die. We have no control over if Faith becomes a slayer, but given that she was made one in canon people are assuming that she will become one again. If she tries to stop being a slayer the only thing that will change is that the watcher's council will start sending hit squads after her.

The only thing we can choose is whether we will fight with her if she is chosen.

Well, I mean, we could try to make sure Kendra lives long enough for Faith to be disqualified, but that's probably not something we can feasibly accomplish.

Friday, Week 2
Adding another stat btw all. Stress, which is willpower. It won't matter unless you hit max, then Astral will be really irritated, and you won't have any more rerolls. It decreases at 1 a week, or when you do stress decreasing activities.

Weekly training, Mind, Body.
Rolled 10, 34+15. Will reroll for Mind 70. Mind +2
Got some stress - 1/5 Willpower used.

Your grades are safe for now!

- [X] Probably best to wait for the weekend or something though. Don't want to crash and burn under the load.

-----

You have a holy task thanks to your new power. To hunt down something in the night. You get the impression that it's something evil and that preys on people, but you have so little information that it's hard to tell. You do attempt a sort of prayer to the light to get more information, and get flashes of blood and the impression of evil trapped in a human facade. Plus the certainty that your best bet is in a place with a lot of people at night.

Fortunately you have a possible lead there, and even better it's possible to follow up at Friday, allowing you to buckle down on your schoolwork.

Jet's a good friend in there. Forcing you to work on the various topics that school use. It's frankly hard on your head, but you manage to get ahead for once in your life. A flash of light in the corner of your mind makes you suspect something, but frankly you've worked hard on this.

You work some on physical work too, but your main focus was on keeping your grades up. In fact, both you and Mr Smith are more proud of the fact that you got a B on a math test. You're not the smartest, but actually having something like a good grade is a nice change.

Faith and you've been having a bit of fun with the practice swords too. Straight swords with iron cores, and padding on the outside. They aren't the best balanced, but unless you put your full strength behind them, the most they will do is bruise. Faith seems to delight in smacking you with it, but you get a few hits back.

Frankly you're certain that what you both do is the equivalent of children playing with toys. It's good strength training for the girl though. More than a few times she finishes sweating and heaving with effort. Which you think is the point ultimately. If you weren't so fit, it would be a great workout for both of you. You're debating how you are going to show her hammer work as a favor back, but frankly being her little sword partner gives the girl such a buzz that you think she's forgotten the entire thing in favor of smacking you around with the practice weapon.

You've never been so thankful for padding as you were when the girl managed a nut shot. She seemed properly apologetic for that one at least, and didn't do it again.

Friday rolls around very quickly in this matter. You studying, weight lifting, and then trying not to break Faith with a fake sword.

The night looms when you've psyched yourself up enough to leave, and it's cloudy enough that you're afraid it's going to rain. This is the best time, you can feel it in your bones. So you head out. Father's passed out in his room smelling of alcohol, but you're certain he wouldn't care if he were conscious. Onto the party house.

It starts to pour as soon as you leave. Thunder rolls out. You ignore how the rain drips down your face and walk.

The music is barely hearable even from where you are. The standard guards outside aren't even there, and you wonder a bit if anyone had even joined in.

Some movement from to the side makes you move, and a flash of lightning shows two figures standing in front of a third, laying on the ground. A man and a woman. You don't recognize them from school. The girl's short, you'd say a few years younger, but there's something off. The same with the man. He's someone you'd kick out of a club if you could.

He turns to look at you, and you see the monster in his face. It's shifted, distorted in a way that's clearly unnatural. A monster's face.

"Another boy." The man sighs, and gestures to the girl at his side. "Monica, this one's up your alley. Pickings are a bit slim today."

The girl turns towards you and licks her lips. "Oh, this one's good."

Your eyes look at the figure laying still on the ground, and then to the two monsters. Lightning flashes again, and you feel the armor form around your body. Light burns in your heart, and the hammer that shimmers into place feels right and proper in a way that it had never felt before.
(Combat

Male Vampire
Skill level: Street Fighter
Body: Supernatural

Female Vampire
Skill level: Untrained
Body: Supernatural

Primary Target: Female Vampire.
Win Target: Kill both Vampires
Flee Condition: 1 HP

(Weapons and armor summoned. MP at 5)

You aren't certain if the monstrous female sees the change in your stance and appearance in the dark and rain. You think she does based on how amused she looks as she charges, but all you can see is the flash of her movement in the end. She lurches forward more like some sort of animal rather than the human she's pretending to be.

Another person would have been overwhelmed. You, you shift on instincts you barely understand you have. Lessons from the light singing through your head.

Her body misses, and your hammer swings down dead on her back. Something cracks in her body, and you see her body smoke and hiss even through the rain. The woman screams like she's being flayed alive, and you can see her face twist in a manner similar to the males. She tumbles from her fall and then twists so that she's on all fours. All presences of being a person have gone. She's growling and hissing as she gets back to her feet and begins to charge again.

You glance back at the male. He's moving forward too.

The two hit at the same time. The man's less wild than his compatriot. His strike is even and something like controlled. It hits you on the shoulder, and you feel a flare of pain as you're knocked to the side. You hit the ground as the woman finally manages to hit you full on and knock you to the ground. She pulls you back and smashes you down again. Something cracks, and she grins down at you. (Damage taken. HP at 5. Stress at 2/5)

This close you can see her eyes through the rain. "Gonna peel you out and drink you dry." She rasps. There is nothing resembling mercy in those eyes.

Smoke rises from where her legs are touching you, but you're certain she doesn't notice as she starts to scrabble at your helmet. You've still got your hammer though. Your hand moves up on the hilt and grasps the head of it. Then you swing with all your might.

It's a glancing blow. The angle's poor It's enough to stun the monster, and for you to grab with your other gauntlet clad hand and push.

The next blow hits her head fully, smashing in the skull like a ripe fruit. The rain turns red for a moment, and then you hit again, and again. The body turns to dust, and you immediately kick up, hammer in your hand. Your breathing is raspy, and your body aches everywhere.

The man looks at you with a curious expression. "You killed her."

You take the chance to focus, and light flares in your hand. The dark and the rain make it hard to make out, but you feel it wash over you soothingly. Your breath immediately eases, and you can feel the armor itself mend. There are still cracks, but you feel so much better. The vampire looks more curious than anything else. (HP at 12, MP at 3)

"A warlock?" He muses and continues to circle.

The rain pours down, and you look at the body still laying in the rain. "No."

You charge at him this time. Caught off guard, the vampire takes the first hit dead on. The spike digs into him, and the man hisses as his body smokes. But he's made of sterner stuff than the girl, and your forced to parry a return strike. The unnatural power of it nearly enough to knock you back. Your arms shake still, and if you were any lighter you would have lost your footing. (HP at 10)

You shift your hands on your hammer. You're starting to feel the effort of moving. It hasn't even been five minutes, and you're trembling. The adrenaline and fear and hate are starting to get to you. This is a monster, and he's still playing with you. There is nothing like care in his face as he moves back and forth, looking for an easy opening.

Then his hand hits yours and the hammer is pushed down. His unnatural strength proving to be greater than yours, and giving him the opening he needs to get close.

You grit your teeth as his other hand reaches forward to grab at you. "I refuse." You state flatly, and slam bodily into the monster. (2 rerolls, Stress at 3/5)

Unnatural strength or not, you still outweigh him substantially. He's pushed back, and you force your body to it's best. Your hammer goes up, and he's flung from you as it hits his side with all of your strength. You see part of his body gouged out and turn to dust as you do so, and you feel the light come to you as you step forward.

Your hammer hits the vampire's head as he attempts to recover. Or perhaps flee. You can't tell. He turns to dust.

"What the fuck?" A voice makes you turn, and you see a girl in a hoodie.

Faith.

"So I'm a...holy knight? Blessed by an ambiguous Ur-Good. I get quests and shit. It's pretty cool, I guess?"

Right, one more question, then I'll put up a vote: we still have our armor on, right?
Because that'd mean Faith wouldn't recognize us.

Could we buy Redemption with that newly earned point, GM?
You could.
Target needs to have faith.
Not sure that works here, unless the light would be willing to make a one-time exception to get a good showing in front of a potential future Slayer.
Faith increases the time you can res. The person there is dead at the moment, but can be resurrected.

Yup, either a new skill in the tier level or leveling up a skill we already have.

Though not sure what the Needs faith part of the skill means.
You can do either or. I'm going to do a writeup of what increasing each skill would do now.

Gah, I know it's selfish, but I really wanted to continue on into the unyielding light path...
It's a shame there's no way to swap some of the power placements around.

Oooh, so Faith determines the cast time. If they don't have faith, resurrection can take 10 seconds to fully revive them.

While if they do have faith, a Paladin can revive them instantly right?

We can go with that.

Also here are skill ups:

The following skills can be upgraded with a skill point:
4) Devotion Aura (Skill) - Increases HP and Ally HP by (Presence/2=[3]) while you are in sight
4+) Increases MP by 2
5) Summon Heavy Armor (Spell, 1 MP) - Summons Heavy Armor of light (Adds 10 HP. Decreases Dexterity by 2. Now considered Heavy.)
5+) Armor gives +2 Charisma when worn
7) Healing Light (Spell 2 MP) - Recovers (Presence) HP
7+) Recovers Presense +4 HP
8) Summon weapons (Spell 1 MP) - Summon weapons of light
8+) Insubstantial weapons can be summoned. They may be thrown to do (Presence) Damage

[X] Tell Faith to hold her questions for now while I check this person.
- [x] Check on the person laying on the ground.
- [X] Cast Redemption to revive dead body.
[X] What do you spend skill point on?
- [x] Redemption

We can go with that.

Also here are skill ups:
Btw, is there a level up limit?
