Maelstrom Games - The Questening (Naruto/Gamer)

Aww, Team 7's reactions to Naruto being the Nine Tail's Jinchuriki were touching :)

Sakura:
[X] Research:
-[X] Monstrous Strength
Sasuke:
[X] Research:
-[X] Blood of the Crow
Naruto:
[X] Research
-[X] The Uzumaki. Several of your traits mentioned your clan, and though you had known they had once existed, you didn't know much. Perhaps you should learn more.

I'd like to have everyone look into their traits to hopefully uncover interesting stuff, and Naruto looking into his mom's clan could lead to info on the Chains and probably stuff about sealing too. General training will cover the basic stuff fine for now.

What are our stats? It's kind of pointless to ask us to pick something to train if we don't know where we are deficient. . .

Trust me, as Genin, no matter what stat you train it'll be worthwhile because your stats are low compared to the heavy hitters out there.

Stats Are:
Str
Dex
Vit
Int
Wis
Luk

Their stats are all already optimized, as Sakura is a power gamer and Sasuke is smart enough to figure it out. All you really need to do is figure out which stats best suit the desired build and go off that. The only stats I really have a good read on is Int and Vit as they are needed for MP and HP.
Naruto has 80 VIT, Sasuke and Sakura both have 20.
Sakura has 90 INT, Sasuke 50 and Naruto 30.

Right, but we need numbers. You can't do a The Gamer quest without them. How are we to optimize without Numbers?

Optimizing is useless from a meta standpoint, as this is a story driven quest. It's safe to assume that their stats are already optimized. Training the stats even more is basically so you can direct their focus, if you wish to reach for a specific path or skillset.

The Gamer aspects of the Quest are more of a plot device, than a relevant mechanics system.

So you are asking us to focus on something that doesn't matter? Then what's the point? If the stats don't matter then why wouldn't we just vote for research all the time?

Because it lets you shift a Character's focus towards a different path of growth?

A Naruto focusing on training his Int is going to end up a lot different than one focusing on Strength and Vit.

Yes, but in the Gamer you don't have to focus on any one thing. You can get good at ALL the things just by training. That's half the appeal. . .

...It should be obvious I'm not using The Gamer's actual mechanics, from the inclusion of Classes.

Stats can be raised via training, but it is not as easy as in The Gamer and focusing on a single stat is not the way to victory. Even Sakura, as a Power Gamer, is currently focusing on Str and Int, with Dex and Wis as secondary stats, because it's more beneficial than going all in on one stat.

If you want to know which stats someone is lacking in, and where they are relatively...pay attention to the story? Try and intuit things? I'm not going to apologize for making you, as players, pay attention and use your brains.

You should probably change the title then, since you aren't using the Gamer. It's a bit misleading.

Yeaaaaaahhhh...no. The Gamer has come to mean Life as a Video Game in general, as far as I can tell, though it tends to refer to this specific version where there are no saves and the change to Game Mechanic is sudden and unexpected by the characters. At least as far as I've seen.

Also, it's shorter and there are enough similarities, it still fits. Seriously, many people tend to twist The Gamer mechanics to fit their story or own version of the plot device. The Gamer is a genre unto itself, at this point.

Proposal for morning (from wake up to Kakashi's arrival at the training ground) training plan. assuming RL week for convenience. this runs off of some assumptions of how stat training works

Monday: Physical training, Laps around the training ground with limb weights and a backpack full of rocks/weights. Look into Kakashi arranging for the installation of an obstiecal course that has to be navigated once per lap to allow for Dex training
Tuesday: Mental training, Studying guided by Sakura mixed with logic and philosophical puzzles tossed out randomly.
Wednesday: Favored stat training, all three pursue training in the stats most beneficial to their classes
Thursday: General Skill training, Focus on skills considered fundamental for Ninja.
Friday: Class skill training, Focus on skills related to their classes
Saturday: Elective Skill training, each of them will pick skills to train in this time slot that don't fall under the General or Class skills categories (example: Naruto studies sealing)
Sunday: off day to prevent burn out.
