Maelstrom Games - The Questening (Naruto/Gamer)

Just a notice - Character Sheets have been updated, adding the XP earned for the last weeks (Making it a month, whole.) HP and MP have gone up, and I have added levels to the Skill List. Additionally, I've added a character image for each of member of Team 7, as they have gained a new outfit this week. Naruto's is without armor, however, and Sasuke's may be on a temporary basis until I can find a better one where he does not have the Rinnegan in his left eye.

Yes, each of them look like their older teenage selves. This is intentional, as Team 7 are not 12 year olds here.
They all look so cool!

Dual Spirit (Lore)
Dual Spirit
Alright, so, back to Lore as I need to catch up.

From Sakura's research into Dual Spirit, she's learned...well, quite a bit. That said, as far the trait itself, she only has some suspicions as to how it works and how it came about.

Mainly, it has to do with a huge imbalance within her Chakra. Her Yin Chakra vastly outweighs her Yang Chakra, by a ratio of 2:1. Incidentally, she has also come to suspect that this may be the formation of a new bloodline limit, as it was a natural occurrence, though she also suspects it was something of a delayed reaction in terms of her genetics. Her great grandfather was apparently working on a variety of Yin Based seals, and worked closely with a Yamanaka.

A female Yamanaka.

One who was already married.

It was when she stumbled upon this, that she remembered that her great grandfather had never actually married and that her great grandmother on that side was 'unknown.'

Being able to put the pieces together, she has come to think that her Dual Spirit Trait is in fact an off shoot of the Yamanaka Bloodline Techniques, that shows itself internally rather than externally. The imbalance has allowed for what is essentially a second mind with it's own thoughts and personality, to form, just as intelligent and capable as herself. As long as they are in sync, her mental processing speed is essentially doubled. Additionally, this allows to truly multitask, being able to think two different thoughts at once because it is in fact two different people thinking.

Normally, this would put enormous stress on the brain itself, but because of the immense amount of Yin Chakra, her brain is essentially being reinforced and acting as a secondary repository for memory. As such, she is in fact passively using up a part of her Yin Chakra constantly, further encouraging the discrepancy between her Yin and Yang Chakra as the Yin is being exerted more often.

Sakura in fact finds it amusing, as this is basically a complete reversal of Naruto's own problem, who has a 2:1 Discrepancy in his chakra in favor of Yang, though his Chakra is also still entirely potent in both areas.

So Sakura is part Yamanaka. Perhaps that's why she and Ino have similar personalities (at least in this AU) and I wonder what Ino's reaction would be to learning Sakura's her cousin.

does this lead to some Yamanaka-exclusive advanced class or something?

Harbinger of War (Lore)
Harbinger of War
So, Sasuke had to dig deep into his clans archives and old stories and even deeper into the origins of his clan.

Turns out, long, long ago, even before his ancestor who made a deal with a demon, his clan was a tribe of warriors. In the bygone days, just a scant few centuries after the Sage himself, the tribe was one of the first to begin truly mastering the art of chakra usage. It was simplistic and very basic, but it gave them an edge over their competition.

It is said that the tribe worshiped an ancient deity of War and Battle, basing their entire culture around the god. Though they fought and conquered, they did so honorably and always paid tribute to their god. They would hold festivals and tournaments in the God's name, seeking to earn his favor for battle. They even went so far as to focus in the use of their deities favored weapons, the bow and the spear.

Of course, that did not mean they neglected their training with other weapons.

For centuries the tribe fought and fought, always in the name of their god. Not for any reason other than that the very act of fighting and battle was sacred to them.

Eventually, the deity took notice of the Tribe's devotion, and found himself impressed. Though he did not join his blood with theirs, the god still rewarded the tribe with a blessing. From then on, the tribe's descendants would carry with them a small echo of their ancestors' skill and power, a trickle bleeding downwards through blood and soul.

Every Uchiha believes that thus their souls carry parts of their ancestor's spirits with them, each successive generation being aided and protected by their forebears. That their skill lent themselves to the next generation, enhancing their abilities.

Well, Sasuke isn't sure he truly buys that, but he knows that for some reason his stronger and faster than he otherwise would be. Whether that's because he has echoes of his ancestors inside his 'soul' or if the Deity just gave them a straight blessing for physical abilities, he doesn't know. He doubts he'll get much more from the few scrolls his Clan still kept.

..Even if now and then, he now swears he could hear a whispered word. A name. The name. The name of a god.

~~Bishamonten~~

right, I say next turn; Sakura socialises with the Yamanaka Clan & Sasuke researches Bishamonten.

It's a reference to super sentai shows, where they tend to say 'Gattai, Transform' or something along those lines as their giant mechs combine into one bigger mech.

Essentially, he's saying Naruto and Sakura should fuse/combine in a similar fashion, so that they are even more boss. Which, to be fair, Naruto and Sakura's kids would be hella scary.

Imagine it. A bunch of blonde/pink haired uzumaki running around with an even LARGER Chakra boost and perfect control, as well the intelligence to use it. The world would be doomed.

The Nine Tailed Fox (Lore)
The Nine Tailed Fox
The Nine Tailed Fox is one of the Tailed Beasts, and the Ruler of the Ninth Circle and as such, the Ruler of all demons. Very few can stand toe to toe with the creature, only three other demons are even known to come close.

It's name is unknown. It's origin is unknown. It's intent is unknown. It's abilities are numerous and many are unknown.

What is known is that the Fox is old. Vastly so, being the oldest demon to currently exist predating most records, and even most gods. Of the few beings that may be older than itself, none have ever deigned to enlighten us as to the origin of the thing's existence.

As a yokai, it is primarily the most powerful of such beings, and holds power akin to a God. While what records that people have, it is evident that the fox tends to prefer seclusion, hiding itself away for centuries at a time and only appearing when it is needed to bring order to the Nine Circles, or to descend upon and destroy a village or country for no discernible reason. Additionally, several battles with both gods and other demons have been referenced in various legends, and there are several landmarks today that are said to be remnants of such collisions.

The Fox Clan, a clan of summons, claims descent from the being though they do not show its inherent and raw power. They also have a demonic counterpart in the Kitsune Clan, whose members range all the way from the 1st to the 8th Circle and claim the Nine tailed Fox as their God King.

While it seems to prefer seclusion, there are several instances where it is known that the Fox has dealt with humans in some manner. Such as when it deemed to interact with a Cult devoted to it, apparently finding some form of amusement in their worship. To them it has acted as a dark and twisted god, aiding them or 'blessing' them when it felt like it. The Cult itself has been stamped out quite a few times, but has always resurfaced decades later.

Additionally, it has also made deals with humans, when they have been able to gain something it truly desires. From this it can be ascertained that the beast at least follows some sort of code of honor or etiquette, as it did not just outright devour those seeking to deal with it and taking their prize.

Obviously, it is intelligent, being able to speak and command chakra. Of it's various abilities, it has shown to be able to take the form of another for a time being. The only time it has ever taken human form was an instance to make a deal or come to some sort of agreement with the Uzumaki. What that deal was for is unknown, but in the following decades many yokai and cults devoted to minor gods were wiped out.

It has also been known to weave illusions of great power, transforming entire landscaped into an illusory realm, or trapping thousands of people in an everlasting torment. There is one instance where it wove it's spell an watched as a village tore itself apart as they were driven mad, killing eachother in a massive riot until there was a single one left.

Lastly, it has an affinity for heat. Flames that burn hotter than magma, or wisps of flickering blue flame that are weaved with it's illusions, ensnaring one's mind. It is said the fires of hell burn within its maw, and that if the beast ever dies, the flames within its body would run rampant over the world, devouring everything until it turns to ash.

There is a Harry Potter naruto crossover where Harry doesn't get susanoo, he gets bishamon instead. Awesome story called Uchiha Fukarou

so the Uzumaki got their fuinjutsu mastery from Kurema then?
No, by all accounts the Uzumaki were already fairly prominent and quite skilled with the art. Hell, they basically created Fuinjutsu. While the Uzumaki dealt with Yokai now and then, it was usually to bind them into service or seal them away. This earned them a lot of respect, as they tended to ignore the clashes with other Ninja Clans and instead focused on quelling problems with Yokai and Restless Spirits, or tending to Sacred Items and Shrines.

At this point, Naruto is beginning to suspect his clan served some kind of important function for the Gods themselves.

I know it sounds like something from a bad fanfiction but i kinda want Naruto to get the fox summons.

I cant remember if its been asked before but is it possible for Naruto to contact the Kyuubi? Maybe as part of a socialise option after the next update.

Seems to me like Naruto could easily get Scorch Release from the Kyuubi. Natural wind affinity with heat/fire from Kyuubi?

"Ahh, Naruto-kun. It is nice to see you again." The wizened voice of the Third Hokage washed over the room, as the smell of the man's pipe filled the air.

From where he stood, Naruto could feel the familiar, smoky aroma tingle pleasantly in his nose, and he felt himself relax as he always did. Fond memories of time spent with the Third when he was a young boy briefly passed through his head, but he shook it off. As much as he saw the Third as a kindly grandfather, that wasn't what he was here for today.

After the weird half ceremony half celebration party Sasuke had thrown, the blonde had been left in a thoughtful wonder. Several questions had been raised at the event, and they had circled in his mind until he had worked up the courage to confront the old man. He could feel the paper fan burn against his leg as it sat in his kunai pouch, pressing him onward, for example.

"Ne, Jiji...when I was younger I asked you about my parents, right?" In fact, he knew that he had. Several times, in fact. Those memories stood out harshly in his otherwise happy memories of the man before him.

In front of him, he saw The Third's face slowly go from jovial expression to a more neutral, reserved one. For moment, Naruto could swear he saw the him sag, his shoulders drooping ever so slightly. But the second he looked again, Sarutobi had steeled himself, and Naruto thought he must have been imagining it.

"So you have." Much like his face, his voice gave nothing away. From the way the oddly shaped hokage hat titled over the old man's eyes giving him a darker appearance, the blond could easily see how many could find the usually kindly man intimidating.

That wouldn't stop him, however. Not this time.

Scowling, Naruto pushed forwards. "Every time I asked, you told me my parents were dead and that you had no idea who they were." His words rang throughout the office, accusingly.

Sarutobi sighed in response, shifting as he pulled the tip of the Hokage Hat down over his eyes as he leaned backwards. The man said nothing, so the boy did.

"That's not true though, is it? When i was younger I bought it, and even just stopped asking eventually. But I know you, Old Man, and you know the name of every single ninja in this village, and even the name of every civilian. Even without you pulling things as if out of thin air with my clan, that should have tipped me off, but I'd just gotten so used to your answer I thought nothing of it."

It was perhaps a tad ironic, that Hiruzen's own jovial nature and integrity when it came to those under his protection had been the thing that finally clinched it for Naruto. As a kid, he'd spent time with the Old man as he walked about the village and watched him greet random strangers on the street. The Third Hokage made it a point to know everything about the villagers, their names, their age, their health, even their personal goings on in the day. And he did it all by interacting with them personally, talking with them and getting to know them.

Sometimes, Naruto wondered how the Old Man kept track of everyone in his head. How he didn't forget someone, or slip up on learning the name of a new born babe. On one level, it was inspiring and a part of him sought to be able to do the same thing one day. On another, he found it to be quite the daunting task.

A sigh brought the genin out of his reverie.

"I had hoped to not have this conversation for another couple year yet." The Third still had his eyes covered by the hat, but his hands were moving, tapping out the burnt ashes from his pipe as he began to refill it. "You must understand, Naruto, that there was a very good reason I did not tell you who your parents were."

His scowl deepening, Naruto bitterly ground out, "That doesn't mean I have to like it."

"No, I suppose it doesn't..." Hiruzen said contemplatively as he finally looked back up, eyes meeting Naruto's. "Unfortunately, even now I cannot tell you who your father was. The knowledge is simply to dangerous for you to have as you are now."

Angrily, Naruto was about to express how that was bullshit, before the other man held up a hand, forestalling his outburst.

"I will tell you one day, Naruto, when you are ready. And only when you are ready." Voice stern, The Third's expression brooked no room for argument.

"And my mother?" Naruto bit out, still bristling.

For a moment, Sarutobi was silent.

"Her name was Kushina. Uzumaki Kushina. And she was your predecessor as the Kyyubi Jinchuuriki."

"W-what?!" Those words shook the blonde to the core, leaving him dumbfounded. "You mean I'm not the first?"

Chuckling despite himself, amusement was written plain on the Hokage's face. "Of course not. Did you not learn of this in the academy? According to my sensei, it was quite the endeavor for him and the others to gather all nine of the Tailed Beasts. Though they've since been distributed to other villages, at one time Konoha held all nine of them within its walls. A feat your own clan was indispensable for."

"Wait, the Uzumaki actually had a presence in Konoha? The books I went through said they were near all gone, by the time Uzushio fell." Naruto couldn't help but ask.

"Mmm, the Uzumaki Clan were fairly prominent within the Village, their members coming and going. They had several properties in their name, which I suppose are now yours, though i believe they have not been well maintained. Sadly, before the walls of Uzushio fell, those not tied directly to Konoha itself had returned to their village, a we were in the middle of war."

Brow furrowed, Naruto couldn't help but pick up on a few key words. "'Those not tied directly to Konoha?'"

"Those who were there permanently in the Village. Including my Sensei's -The First's- Wife, Mito."

"Wait, if Mito married the First, does that mean i have family in the village?" A small spark of hope was present in his voice, but it was a fragile, half-hearted thing. And his low expectations were proven right when Sarutobi's face grew pained.

"Sadly, that line has all but died out. Only Tsunade remains, and she has not set foot inside the village for decades, now. One of Mito's daughters had married into the Uchiha Clan, to a friend of mine, by the name of Kagami. Their own daughter was friends with your mother, and was the one who introduced her to Uchiha Mikoto, I believe."

For a single, horrifying moment, a thought crossed Naruto's mind. "I'm not related to Sasuke, am I?!" Eyes wide, and voice frantic, desperation was clear in his voice.

Once more, the Third chuckled. "No, no, Mikoto was young Sasuke's mother. She babysat for you, when you were younger in fact, when I was busy. Unfortunately, your only other relative living at the time died shortly before the...incident. Shisui looked to be a very promising ninja, sadly cut down before his time."

Blinking, it was if the Hokage had suddenly remembered something. "Ah, I believe I actually still have several baby pictures from when she babysat you. You and the Young Sasuke were fairly 'cute,' as she constantly went on about. Would you like to see them?"

"Uh, No, no thanks! I'm good old man, definitely don't need to see those, I'll just be going now, see ya later, have a nice day, please don't let those pictures see the light of day!" And then Naruto was gone, frantically backing out of the Hokage's office.

Left alone, smoking his pipe, said Old Man couldn't help letting out a sly smirk as he chuckled.

"Get's them every time." Surreptitiously, he patted his side where he kept a wallet packed with several embarrassing baby photos, of not just Naruto, but Asuma and Konohamaru as well.

There'll probably be a follow up to this, where Naruto is directed to the Uzumaki Mask Shrine, as it's fairly important, but this was getting long. For now, we have an interrupt to the usual schedule!

Kakashi has announced Team 7 is ready for a C Rank Mission. What is this mission?
[] Big Trouble In Little Wave
-A Bridge Builder wants some bodyguards on his way to wave, to protect him from bandits.
[] Dude, Where's My Cargo?
-This guy lost his cargo to some bandits near the border with sand, and wants it back.
[] Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?!
-A village has reported a large, slithering creature outsides its walls. Scout it out, kill it if you can, report back if not.
[] Casino Royally F*cked Up.
-A Casino in Tanzaku Gai believes there may be an attempt on their vaults and have asked for some added security.

Note: All of these missions are happening at the same time, and are all 'true.' As in, if you don't pick a mission, someone else will be assigned to it. Possibly someone you know.

[X] Snakes, why'd it have to be Snakes?!
