[X] Help her out. It seems pretty obvious that the mechanic could use a hand. There's quite a bit of stuff strewn about, and you feel a bit responsible for what happened. Besides, it never hurts to help someone out.

Noel - Part II
[X] Help her out.
-[X] Ask her about it first.

---
"Would you like help with that?" You ask, pointing at the mess of junk and tools.

"I-I'm okay..." She answers without looking at you. "Don't worry about it."

"Hmm..." Your voice trails off. It's almost a pitiful sight, seeing her scrambling around amongst bits of metal in an almost futile attempt to gather everything up. You let out a sigh. Leaving her here would make you feel bad. She probably wouldn't be too upset if you helped her out. Besides, your job description does include "helping out the helpless".

Without saying a word you get down on your knees and begin gathering tools and parts into your arms. You move slowly, examining each tool with scrutiny before moving onto pick up another. It is a stark contrast to her frantic pace, as she hurriedly gathers the sprawled pieces into piles. Your eyes come to rest on her. She seems rather preoccupied, and you still can't make out her face under the large cap that obscures her head.

"Here." You say as you hand her the pile of tools you are cradling.

"H-huh?" She seems startled and a bit confused. "Ah! I told you didn't have to help me..." She turns her gaze to you; a pair of emerald irises and a slender, round face framed by chestnut hair. She quickly averts her eyes almost as quickly as they meet you. Perhaps she wasn't too good around people?

---
[X] In a way, you can kind of relate. Being in the wilderness for such long periods of time tends to rob one of their social skills, or at least what little you had when you first woke up in this place. It has never really bothered you though. In a way you feel at home in the wilderness of Eden. Braving the dangers alone makes you feel alive, and your deeds as a Wanderer helping the settlements has given your life purpose. (Determines personality characteristic)

[X] You, on the other hand, feel rather elated to be able to talk to someone again after so long. Although you are often away for long periods of time in Eden's wilderness, you've always really felt at home in the settlements. Your findings as a Wanderer have helped many settlements to thrive and flourish, becoming safe havens for travelers and those looking for a place to live. It is one of the reasons you haven't really settled down anywhere yet. There is still much you can do for the settlements as a Wanderer. (Determines personality characteristic)
---

"It's okay." You reassure. "I'm sorry for getting in the way."

"Oh! No it's fine!" She throws up her hands in a flustered manner. She sighs a bit in defeat. "T-thank you... for the help."

"No problem."

---
[X] Offer a friendly grin... or at least try to. (Friendly)
[X] Keep a blank expression. (Indifferent)
---

You drop another pile of tools into the boxes, and notice her tugging at her cap again. She seems to mess around with it quite a bit. Maybe it's too big for her? It does seem rather large. Ignoring that, your eyes glance around at the warehouse. It appears fairly old. You can see some of the grey iron being consumed by the brown, flaky corrosion of rust as it eats through the metal walls. Water drips from the ceiling and onto the head of a mechanic, causing him to curse loudly in some unknown language. Despite this, the warehouse appears to be fairly sturdy. Solid concrete pillars and corners serve as anchors for the reinforced metal walls, and despite the water leaking through in a few places the floors were relatively kept dry.

"Those wrenches go in this box."

"Hmm..."

"Oh! Those valves go into the middle box."

"Okay... What about this?"

"Ah... that crankshaft part goes in the box with the alternator."

"The what?" You quickly realize you don't know where anything goes.

"There." She points to the box on the left.

The two of you continue gathering up the parts. There isn't much conversation going on other than the girl telling you where everything went. Although, from time to time you seem catch her glancing at you as if she wants to say something. You figure it's nothing though, and keep continue with your endeavors. Nonetheless, you catch on pretty quick and soon all the tools and spare parts are back in their respective bins. The two of you stand and dust yourselves off, a trio of filled boxes standing between you.

"Thanks a lot umm..." her voice trails off as she eyes you. "... I don't think I got your name..."

---
[X] Tell her your name.
[X] Tell her that you are a Wanderer.
You do not really have a name that you go by... at least not anymore...

You stack two of the boxes together, leaving one for her. "I'm just a wandering traveler drifting through the town." You say. "Someone who probably won't stay very long." You catch a glimpse of her disheartened expression as your rather callous answer reaches her ears. Poor girl, it seemed like it took a lot to try to talk to you.

"Oh... I see..." She says. "Well... umm... My name is Noel! It's nice to meet you mister."

Mister?

You look down to steal a glance at your attire. The Cloak and Dagger never did do very much in accentuating a woman's figure. In fact, you vaguely remember the soldiers confusing you with a man earlier as well when they stopped to pick you up by the side of the road. Your face is a bit rugged from the weather, and you don't really wear any sort of powder that the townsfolk often painted themselves with. In that sense it would be rather understandable for people to mistake you for a young man. Not that it bothered you too much. The clothes were warm and quite frankly a godsend when it came to those ice-cold stormy nights, and the less people knew about you the better anyway.

"Likewise." You respond, not bothering to correct her. "Now. Where do we take these?"

"Ah... Mr. Rodriguez wants us to bring the boxes over to that humvee there."

"Rodriguez?" You ask.

"He's one of the senior mechanics here." Noel responds without looking at you. The girl seems to have gotten lost examining some parts in her box. "He's taught a lot of us how to fix things." Her fingers gently run along the edge of a piece of metal with familiarity before placing it back into the box. Compared to her distraught demeanor before, she seems almost serene.

---
[X] In a way you can somewhat relate.
---

"So you have somewhere to belong too..." You conclude as you watch her grab the box and walk past you. "I see." Comes your outward response.

"Ah! I can take you to meet him. We're both going that way anyway." Noel exclaims. Compared to how she was before, she seems a bit more assertive.

"Umm... I really shouldn't..." You try to say. It would be better not to get caught up in her pace, but before you can say anymore she's already quite a few paces ahead of you.

With a sigh, you follow her to the humvee.

"Mr. Rodriguez!" Noel calls out. "I brought the parts!"

"About damn time!" Comes a gruff, older voice from behind the vehicle. "What took ya so long?" An older man emerges from the Humvee. A stubble of gray hair grows about his head, and he stares long and hard at you with a pair of brown brown eyes before before shifting his gaze to the girl in front of you. "Who's this joker?" His face bears the numerous fissures and valleys of old age on its brown surface as his face scrunches in confusion. His coveralls are dark blue with patches of white, black and brown stains along with tears from the workshop. Honestly to you it looked like he could use a new pair.

"Ah... umm well... he's a friend!" Noel declares. You can detect a hint of pride in her voice.

"Well if he ain't good with a wrench he's useless in here." the man retorts. He has a noticeable accent in his words. Perhaps he was a southerner? "Set those boxes over there and come help me out. The damn latch is stuck again and my fingers are too big to reach."

"Well aren't you just all chuckles and smiles..." You groan mentally.

"Okay!" She replies, ignoring the man's rather callous tone. Her tone is calmer and more rigid, just like that of a professional working on their craft. You set the boxes on an old wooden crate just a few steps from the humvee and decide to watch the two of them silently. Despite her reply Noel seems to be enjoying herself as her petite hands disappear into the hood of the car, a look of contentment plastered on her face as she gets to work.

"So..." You hear Rodriguez's voice. "Who're you supposed to be?"

You don't really sense any hostile intent, but you can tell he's not the type of person to welcome others with open arms.

"Just a Wanderer passing through..." You reply flatly.

"Ah... the fabled 'Heroes of Eden'." He remarks sarcastically. "You all look more like homeless bums to me. You all should find some work in the Settlements or something. There's plenty of empty jobs that need bodies."

"No thanks. But I appreciate the offer." You answer, waving him away. The rainy silence of the forest sounds much more comforting to you than a noisy workshop or a boring desk job. You take a sniff and wrinkle your nose a bit. The air here is thicker and saltier, with a sort of dry, overbearing stuffiness that makes it a bit uncomfortable to your senses. It is nothing like Eden's forests. Cool and damp, but fresh and without the staleness that comes from dust and age of boxes and parts that have been left to sitt for ages.

"Well suit yourself." He grumbles. "I'm getting too old for this shit... and so are many others..."

"I'm done sir!" Noel calls from the hood of the humvee. In her hands is an old burnt out sparkplug and some loose latchings. "I found some other loose pieces too!"

"Atta girl..." Rodriguez spurs. A hint of proudness laces his words, and you can't help but smirk a bit. Looks like the guy has a heart after all. "I knew I could count on you."

"Ehehe..." She grins happily. There is a stain of black grease on her face, but she doesn't seem to mind it at all. The man beside her seems to have forgotten about you, and dips his body back into the hood of the vehicle.

"Noel, give me a number nine."

"Yes sir!"

"I'll need one of those monkey wrenches too."

"Okay!"

"Hurry up with that box of lugs..."

"Right away!"

You watch the two work in silence, the sounds of the garage filling your ears. You find it easy to get lost in their pace. Many places you visited were often in disrepair or had citizens who had lost their sense of purpose and direction. Such was common in Eden, and many often questioned why they were here and what they were meant to do.

However, you found that there were also places like these, where individuals struggled in vain against the unforgiving world. After all, as a Wanderer you too have struggled against the senselessness of the world in order to find... something... whatever that may be.

---
[X] Ask about the Alphonse Settlement.
[X] Continue watching the two in silence.
[X] Bid them farewell and go see if Duncan has returned.
[X] Ask other questions.
(Write-in)

A/N: Sorry about that... it took me awhile to write this because I was trying to establish some kind of rapport between the characters. If you can't tell by now... I'm bad at writing conversations... >_<

[x] Ask about Alphonse.
---

"This is quite the place..." You note. "I don't remember any settlements like this..."

Although you admit to yourself that your words are not entirely true. You feel a sense of familiarity with the place, as if you had visited this place many times. Perhaps it was just a feeling of nostalgia that accompanied many settlements. People often clung to as many comforts as they could, and making the settlements as homey as possible was quite a common occurance.

"Alphonse just started popping up on the map recently." The old man replies still halfway inside the vehicle. "You know how slow word gets around in these parts. We don't get e-mail or anything like that."

"E-mail?" You ask, puzzled.

"Eh nevermind..." He grumbles. "I'm just saying crazy things."

"The news only gets around as fast as the carriers can take them." Noel adds with a grunt as she lifts another box up onto a nearby work bench.

"That makes sense." You reply. You vaguely remember among the convoy talk about the enlistment of Wanderers to carry mail from settlement to settlement. "It seems like it's gotten more dangerous recently as well."

"You got something right there." Rodriguez adds, putting a rather condescending emphasis on "something". "It seems raiders have been stepping up their game as well. God damn bastards, giving me and my boys so much work to do. It's quite a pain in the ass!" You steal a glance in a far corner where a humvee similar to the one the duo are working is sitting. The right side is completely destroyed, the bent and warped metal plating hinting at some sort of explosive weapon. There is still dried blood caked on various parts of the vehicle.

"I noticed..." You remark.

Rodriguez sighs and wipes his hands on a work cloth. "You don't talk much do you?"

"I never have much to say."

"Well, that's a first." He notes. "Lotta Wanderers out here are bigshots." He points to the open doorway of the warehouse. "Cocky bastards that think they can take on the wild alone and come back. Bunch of kids I tell ya. Most of em don't even make it back after their first 'journey'." He sighs in irritation. "What a waste..."

"That's... pretty normal actually." You correct him. "The most experienced are often the lucky ones."

"Like yourself?"

"Maybe."

"Yeesh..." He makes a disgusted face. You can tell the man wants almost nothing to do with the Wanderers and their business.

[X] "Everyone has their own reasons I guess..." [Understanding]
[X] "Well fuck you too then..." [Disapproving]
[X] Write in.

You don't really say anything more between the two of you. You sit and watch the two in silence, and Rodriguez goes back barking instructions to Noel. You don't mind though, he seems like a bit of a callous person and you aren't to fond of those types. Although you yourself could relate to that a bit, and if Noel likes him he probably wasn't that bad of a guy.

Time passes by, and a few moments later Rodriguez and Noel finish up their work for the morning. You have to admit that it was rather entertaining and intriguing to see them work.

"Probably one of what they call the simple pleasures in life." You note to yourself.

"That's it for today Noel. I got nothing left for you to do." Rodriguez tells her. "Why don't you go home for now."

"Ah, okay! Thank you for today sir." She gives him a bow.

"Now scram kid." He says with not a hint of hostility. "The adults gotta work now."

You get up to leave as well. You've entertained yourself long enough, and you figure it's time to go look for Duncan to see if he's returned with from his report. The poor guy's probably waiting for you out in the rain.

"Ah wait!"

You see Noel race up to you. You give her a look that tells her you're waiting to see what she has to say.

"Umm... You're new here right?" She asks.

"Yeah." Your answer is short and simple. "More or less."

"Oh. Well... Umm..." She seems a bit shy. "If you don't mind... I could show you around the town. It's got a pretty great market district, with some entertaining street performers and..." The eagerness in her voice rises only to fall short as she realizes the words coming from her lips. She tugs her hat further down on her head. "Ah... I mean... if you're okay with that."

"Hmm..." You begin, though still deep in thought. "Well..."

---
[X] Go with Noel to see the town. She seems rather eager to show you around, and a little bit of sightseeing never hurt. Besides, she mentioned the market district, which would be a good first stop to obtain supplies.

[X] Go find Duncan. He might be waiting for you, and you already agreed to having him show you around. It wouldn't be good to just leave him waiting for you in the rain.

[X] Write in.

A/N: BLARGHSLHGHTAGH... Sorry for leaving you all for so long. I got stuck with severe writer's bloc and couldn't write anything out for awhile. Hopefully you all are still with me! :(

I was going to make it a write-in to have both show you around, but this works too.
