Most illustrious sirs, what kind of offer might you acccept from Sweden to make a similliar treaty with us?

I would request the honouring of alliances, pacts old and new against a treacherous cur who would steal the aid from your lungs in spite of all honourable treaties made in good faith. I speak of removing the slight against all good honest christian folk that calls itself the King of Sweden.

From : Axel Oxenstierna, Chancellor of Sweden-Norway.

Confidently

Your Majesty, shall I remind you of the equally outrageous presence of your troops on New Swedish ground just reported to us?
This is Englands good faith?
It appears Sweden believes good faith relies on others allowing it to do what it wishes.

My troops are not present in the colony you swindle away to others like a con man does with baubles he claims to be diamonds. Fear not, i shall present your price shortly. All 30 pieces of silver.

That would only get you about one acre of land.

Honestly?
Negotiations are not one-sided. Nor do they imply assured success. But to negotiate, one has to talk.
You did not.

I do not hold you responsible for the inability of others to keep their word. I would request that you endeavor to prevent the childish actions of Sweden from disrupting our trade of the Atlantic, so to ensure the enforcement of our treaties terms have very little impact on our relationship.

I spoke many a time. You devils simply slunk off back to the blighted land you call a kingdom, as though hiding from the light of day would prevent others reminding you of your obligations to keep your damn word.

If it is but one acre, then why do your persist in refusing any offers, continue to be disinclined to make your own and then claim not to be the reason negotiates do not simply breakdown, but fail to occur at all.

We gave our word to NEGOTiATE. We implied that a territorial exchange would be our price.
You never started negotiations.
Also, if you got New Netherlands, we did not hear of THAT either.

I see the ability to negotiate with you is as likely as receiving courtesy. Despite the efforts made by myself and others from within the Atlantic alliance, you simply refuse to negotiate, ignoring our attempts to start them to justify your actions.
Upon your head be it.

With much regret it appears that the Kingdom of Sweden refuses all attempts to negotiate in any form of good faith, choosing instead to do away with civilised conventions.

To this end, a formal declaration of war is announced, defending our overseas territories and the terms of our treaties. Let victory be ours so that civilisation and honourable conduct be preserved against the immoral workings of the Charles Gustav X.

God Save Britannia. God Save the King

Secret

I am aware that you were tricked by the Swedes as their uninformed Patsy. Fear not, for our wrath shall not visit the victim of their treachery, only those attempting to shield the thief from those defending the laws that govern us all.

Having settled into the throne and married his russian bride, Queen Irina, Charles Stuart has enjoyed his new life, holding parties and encouraging his ministers to find new ways to fund his lavish lifestyle. With gifts of cash being sent from the East India Company, they are steadily gaining a foothold of favor within the royal court.

John Pell, Mathematician and Diplomat, becomes the first Englishman to learn magic, placing himself under the tutelage of a representative from Citallon. There he studies and begins work on his Pellian Principals, a notation on the subject matter for future students of the natural science, proposing that just because it has yet to be examined in detail doesn't mean it can't be rationalised. In addition to this, the Princess Amalia has taken to attending his lessons, escorted by a sizeable detachment of men as a sign of her uncles protectiveness, showing an interesting aptitude considering her age.

A new ride for his majesty

Whilst on a tour of his kingdom, visiting his subjects in Scotland, Charles II had chance to witness and capture a odd sea creature within the waters of Loch Ness. Bravely baiting the creature into a trap with a pile of fish, the king wrestled to the ground single handily (with a taskforce of two dozen men piling onto it.) Taming the creature goes well as as it makes a new home within the lake of one of his many estates.

Economic Information

...the Bank of the Commonwealth is allowed to continue, under the name "The Bank of Albion" so to distance itself from its origins whilst allowing ties to Scotland to continue. Norman Blackwood, is allowed to continue his post, as a policy of forgiveness is put into place. The capital obtained from the Bank would be utilized in the construction of a number of industrial works, as well as a few factories. One such factory began the manufacture and production of rifled muskets…

...certain peculiar developments in agriculture would begin to occur, eventually being coined as an 'agricultural revolution'. A number of these developments would be directly introduced by Gordon Ashman and his devotees, most notably being Eugene Thurgood. The land would no longer become worn out or need to be left fallow with the introduction of crop rotation. Fields would be drained, limed, and marbled. Artificial grasses, clover, would be used to rejuvenate the soil, while hay made keeping livestock in the winter easier. New food items would also be popularized most prominent being the turnip and the potato. Horse drawn agricultural tools would also start to be popularised...

The Caernarfon Manufactory is built in North Wales, its location on the coast allowing for both easier travel to slowly developing coastal towns along the Irish Sea whilst its remoteness allows for better testing and implementation of newer technologies, where the embarrassments of failed application of theory into reality can be covered up. Here several machine-shops have taken to being built, fuelling the creation of mill towns across the rural landscape to attract workers from the countryside.

Across the nation railway lines criss-cross the country, running alongside prebuilt roads so to aid the direction of traffic and allow for industry to complement one another.

The University of London receives its Royal Charter so to create a steady stream of newly educated men for the running of the realm, the secular focus allowing for graduates to take to fields of Science and Medicine.

The General Health and Cleanliness act is introduced in Parliament, to the amusement of some, requiring those handling food for general consumption of the public to have access to a clean supply of water in order to reduce the spread of disease. Though deemed unenforceable, it is believed it should at least be the beginning steps to reducing the scourge of summer pestilence upon the cramped city populations and at least grant nobles the right to whip their cooks for not cleaning their hands.

Abroad, reconstruction of Carolina begins as the army of the America's sets up new defensive positions on the Florida border, the local tribes sent gifts of gunpowder and alcohol. In India, the Mughals new treaty allows for the purchase of Wheel-lock muskets in return for newer, more expansive trade posts dotting the empire with reduced tarriffs for the EIC. Wealth begins to flood into Britain, granting further Royal Support as the crown allows for the charters granting the right to hire their own forces, if they swear loyalty to the Crown as well as the company. The colony at Cape Horn receives a new wave of colonists, the colony itself now expanding its stockade as a series of trade posts begin to pop up along the west coast of Africa to trade with the natives, trade posts dotting the western coast, trading in ivory and slaves to the recovering colonies where sugar plantations are being developed within the west indies and cotton within the continental colonies.

Military

The New Model Army has begun to see some reorganisations at the behests of Aschman's Group. Lord Fairfax has retaken command. He has taken to beginning to delegate the creation of a more official channel for supplying his men with their equipment along with the drilling of his armies so to keep their edge in preparation for Spanish Invasion. New bayonet drills have been developed to replace the need for pikemen against cavalry whilst making sure each man can do their bit if it comes to a melee. Newer, more modern weapons have begun to surface in response to the advances made by spain, mimicking their grenades and heavier support weapons, in addition to the building of the first English Airship, "the Irina". Though small and unwieldy, it is a significant development and has caught the kings imagination. It is believed he ordered it be bigger with guns next time so that Britannia might rule the skies in addition to the waves. Bolt Action rifles, having been introduced a year ago are built in bulk, so to arm the entirety of the arm with the Enfields.

In other news, better steel is being utilised in both weaponry, equipment and helmets making for a better soldier. The new office of the Quartermaster has been most helpful in the organisation of equipping the Royal Army. Crude Balloons are utilised as firing platforms for snipers and observers. Rumours of larger ones being built begin to spread.

A series of brickwork forts begin to take shape, dotting the southern/Eastern coastline in preparation for Swedish invasion.

With war with Sweden looming, the navy has taken to the habit of press-ganging to aid the crewing of their ships, the older designs being filtered out in favour of newer armoured designs, whilst the army is rumoured to be emptying the prisons for recruits.

Army:
  • 80,000 Infantry
  • 25,000 Calvary
  • 1200 Cannons
Navy:

  • Several observation balloons.
