Word of GM directly says the connection is our biggest thing here.

I never saw how he said it is our most important trait. It is just our most extraordinary trait and something that makes us even more different from the other MG´s. That is special, not important. Our Connection wont help us if we cant take a hit. We have a relative good offensive now, but our defense is still low. Eva espacially is useless in battle until she has enough defense and her heals can only work if she or Rico are able to survive a hit from an enemy.

Connection will draw/merge the twins even more. That wont grant any defense now, or at least it is unlikely that it will grant us that.
Like i said, if we just level up our defense in a fight, what will we do if we are ambushed and the enemy has the first hit even before we can vote and therefore level up, or dont have enough ep to level up enough.
Clearly there is just 1 outcome then: we will die. Nothing more and nothing less. Dont level up our possibilitys of defending us just because we are momentarily safe is reckless. Thats why i support All is equal more, because it gives us defensiv possibilitys.

We should start level us more balanced.
How fitting, considering your Affinities.

Wants to buy the 250EXP thing instead of just stocking up on levels for the Super Ability...
You know, trying to play the middle-length game is something new; I have not seen that before.

I said it is the most interesting, not the biggest. Connection Upgrades have the greatest narrative influence, aside from some combat utility.

Additionally, I mentioned at least five times that I meant for people to put the [Thoughts] into one block.

Plus, as I was talking with a few other people yesterday, I realised that there is a little something I messed up.
Therefore, a new Shop-Item has been added to the Joint Shop.

Additionally, I added a new option to the current setup.
[] Maybe you can do something with your Affinities? Big Sister does this thing where she sits around for an hour and does nothing... meditating, maybe?
It will be present starting now, but I wanted to mention it being in the previous Update just in case people want to go for it right now.

So, an Existence Bonus is basically the weight of your very existence pressing into battle. It is something unique to Magical Girls.

To give a quick example, let us return to a fight from some time ago.

(Avatar of Retribution: +3,480 Base Damage, +100 Hostile Story Effect, +639 dice = 4,219 Damage
Avatar of Retribution: +3,480 Base Damage, +100 Hostile Story Effect, +1603 dice = 5,183 Damage
Avatar of Retribution: +3,480 Base Damage, +100 Hostile Story Effect, +1232 dice = 4,812 Damage
Avatar of Retribution: +3,480 Base Damage, +100 Hostile Story Effect, +748 dice = 4,328 Damage
Avatar of Retribution: +3,480 Base Damage, +100 Hostile Story Effect, +3190 dice = 6,770 Damage

25,312 Total Damage

Ignition Sentinel: +6,500 Base Resilience, +3000 Fast Reflexes, +2000 Expected This, +500 Legendary Existence, dice negated = 12,000 Total Damage Reduction

This was the only example where Existence Bonuses became relevant before, seeing that they only apply when the attack has the attacker's growth Affinity listed.
Brave Heart's Avatar of Retribution has her Story-Affinity, so she adds the weight of her existence as a Story to each attack when casting her Spell.

With an Existence Bonus on the offensive, the one on the defensive side activates automatically; looking at Ignition Sentinel, you find a much higher bonus from being a Legend.

In this example, their existences cancel each other out, so it does not matter much... but it serves as a good example on how those things work.
Balance has a special Existence Bonus, though... and there is a reason you have to unlock it first.
Alternatively, there is a description of how they work by Crystalwatcher.

Unlock Sun's and Moon's Existence Bonus
Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Wants to buy the 250EXP thing instead of just stocking up on levels for the Super Ability...
You know, trying to play the middle-length game is something new; I have not seen that before.
the superability is 1200 EXP away. we want some lowerhanging fruit first :D

Knight stands by her side and has her eyes on you again. "I don't know for sure, but it's probably a strong Affinity."
and that's Knight considering if she should kill us now :o
Igni just stays quiet, but you can see that she is tense.
and that's Igni hoping she won't have to choose between standing in the way of Knight or letting us get killed

Something worth considering while we're here at the Yggdrasil base.

There's probably some training action we can take right now that is required in order to eventually unlock our highest obtainable tier of Skilled.

Balance has a special Existence Bonus, though... and there is a reason you have to unlock it first.
Balance has its own Existence Bonus, yes... But I'm pretty sure it has its own twist that makes it appropriate to Balance. Probably works as a cancellation of enemy's bonuses, on the same level as them. Equality. At least vs MGs.
Guys... Ummm. Pause that thought, I need to get ourselves a line of quotes to speak of. Specifically, things that may or may not affect the direction of this quest.

Disclaimer: I do not have access to the author's personal notes, no matter how much they may accuse me and how many sheets of paper may be inside my shirt.

Episode One: The False Existence Menace
Well, if this was Australia, you might get away with local wildlife :V
Also, as a freebie, there are no Children of Nightmares in this setting.

A member of the Unified Darkness in the original Quest.
They are... basically exactly what the name says. Manifestations of what people fear.
Canon-examples would be Xenomorphs, but basically everything you see in a horror-movie is something that can show up with them. With all the abilities such fantasies give them in media.

and the greater children of nightmare are born from the deepest wishes of someone, but always tainted in some way that ruins them.

"Huh... You and Igni have the same Affinity."
They both shrug at this and you notice a big staircase coming up. Dragon looks more calm now, too... and Knight's answer tells you why: "Most girls these days have Horror as an Affinity."
Right, I think these quotes are enough.

I honestly believe that with the tendencies shown, especially with this last quote from the latest chapter, that the statement in the first quote is truthful but inherently misleading.

Non-Greater Nightmares generally have a common affinity. Horror. Look at the quote from the latest chapter again? "Most girls these days have Horror as an Affinity."

When I started hunting these quotes down, I was somewhat worried about my guess - thought it could have been wrong. But right now, I do not think I was wrong at all. And that's horrible, puns aside.

There are no Children of Nightmare because Magical Girls are Children of Nightmare. This is what the world-wide MG-phobia has wrought. Vampires would have been CoN - but there are now MGs who are vampires with the hunger for blood. There is our friend, World Eater (how is she anyway?) who is always hungry, all the time. There was the most recently revealed MG who was caught in a delusion of her own making - before being put down by Nightmare Child and exsanguinated by the aforementioned Vampire MG. It was actually better this way, in a bleak manner.

One of the possible futures if we fail, is that eventually, all the Magical Girls will lose their agency upon becoming MGs, because their instincts, their minds, will be overwritten. Bad End.

Episode 2. Attack of the Gods.
"What happens when there's no humans left?"
"Hm? What do you mean?"

Her expression becomes more curious now and you wait for what Rico wants to say; you have a good idea, though. There is very little still separating you and your twin.

"Um... I mean, when there's no humans, there won't be any more Magical Girls, right? What do you do then?"

Now both older girls give both of you measuring looks; Igni seems a bit less surprised than Knight, but you probably said something weird. Rico shrinks back under the gazes and you quietly shuffle closer to her.

After some staring, Knight speaks: "Then we'll have peace."
"B-But they will all die one day..."

Your voice is quiet as you say it; you understand that no one lives forever and it hurts to admit... but what when there is no humans and no Magical Girls?
"I don't care much about what happens when we're all gone. Those girls will die after living a life in peace and that's all I want."
Also, now worried about Shiva/Sil being a participant.
This, now, is the other significant worry over long-term.

For those who aren't well-versed in the original story, Crystalwatcher's one:
Shiva and Sil are the Twin Goddesses of Destruction, who lead a kinda-sorta death cult of chosen Magical Girls who have pledged themselves to them. For a short-ish while, Goddess White was an affliate in order to find a way to reunite her sisters, somehow. Shiva and Sil wage "war" against Gaia itself, and their latest stopped plot involved unleashing a deadly virus on Earth, to cull most of the humans (but give a power-up to the scant few survivors). Gaia objected. So did Nepgear.

Shiva/Sil's endeavor is politely considered a form of assisted suicide by the divinities in the know, due to Gaia outclassing them so much it isn't funny. But that's in Nepgear's story. In Libra's Lament, the two "weapons" of Gaia - the humanity and the magical girls - are turned on one another. Even in Nepgear's story, they, though being unaligned to Unified Darkness, were willing to depopulate one of the cornerstone factions of Unified Light over their personal agenda.

And what's more... Shiva/Sil has the ability to revive the MGs who have pledged themselves to them, and their description, Twin Goddesses of Destruction (or "of the End") looks to have a disturbing parallel with our own Super Ability, Two Minds Joined In Harmony. Because super twins power, activate (ahem, forgive me). Just a gut feeling though.

As a speculation with there already being case for paired divinities resurrecting their other half if it is somehow slain (Cosmos and Void, I'm looking at you girls) Shiva and Sil being another case of having a mutual resurrection ability is not something that can be disregarded.

Point is. Shiva/Sil shouldn't have changed - and they were willing to disregard the wishes of both UL and UD in OTL. So it's a definite possibility for them to become involved in Earthside matters. They were capable of fielding MGs and willing to destroy humanity for their own ends - and with Yggdrassil and the quoted statement by Abyss Knight, they would have a ready-made group of acolytes. Finally, twins vs twins is something that would bring added symbolism in thie entire situation - and SV thrives on finding (and putting) hidden meanings in the vast variety of things.

Bottom line, Shiva and Sil are contenders for one of the major Big Bads of the story. Because with their involvement, Yggdrassil will have a chance of coming back from the dead. It won't be just a life of peace after humans are gone - it will be everlasting peace. Do you think Abyss Knight will allow herself to give up on the opportunity for her girls to obtain it? Even if she has to consign herself to an eternity of servitude?

If they get involved, it might become a yet another. Bad End.

P.S. Does anyone have actual information about "All is Equal" beyond "Unless you allow it, damage numbers stay low"... It's not a joint ability. It's Moon-specific one. And the phrasing makes me slightly worried it's not about limiting the damage done to us. It might be about limiting the damage we do to others.

Oh boy... those are pretty detailed, I give you that.

Episode One: The False Existence Menace

Well... all things considered, you are not wrong. I never thought about it that way, though.

Although no vampire-MG exsanguinated Fallen Snow... she just bled a lot after getting her legs chopped off and the scent made World Eater lose her restraint... which is why she ate her.
World Eater is... well, one of the Interludes a few chapters back would have been about her.

Shame...

Episode 2. Attack of the Gods.
Isn't this quest more inspired by CWMGQ, rather than being a very detached AU?
Well, I took a lot of the base setting from there, then swapped a few things around. It would have been far closer to CWMGQ, had people not chosen Human Nature.

Speaking of, as far as I understand it, Shiva-Sil is going for total annihilation of everything (their title is "The Twin Gods of Destruction")... so they really have no need to interfere on Earth, where everything already went to hell during WW3; they might be watching to see if humankind destroys itself entirely, but would have little chance to get to any of the girls with Gaia standing guard even if they wanted to.

and SV thrives on finding (and putting) hidden meanings in the vast variety of things.
You are doing a pretty good job of it, too. :V

As a nugget for the well-done analysis though (which does not mean any of it was true or false), I think I will give you something... so pick one of the following:

-Character Sheet: Magical Girl Nightmare Child (Level 1)
-Bump up one of the already revealed sheets (on the front page) to Level 3
-Reveal the exact effect of any one Shop Item

damn, that's a hard one.
I am torn between Abyss Knight's Sheet, Moon's Veil Of the Lunar Goddess and the twins Complete Connection.

Abyss Knight's Sheet barely wins out for me though.
It'll be useful to know many of her abilities for when we have to fight her.

In general I got the impression that MGs here are weaker than those from CWMGQ.
Which makes sense since they can't EXP-farm on massive amounts of demons.

*Headpats*

Naron, I'll just say right now that saving up is... difficult for SV. Unless the Super Ability is in spitting distance in terms of XP it's unlikely at best that we would save up for it... no matter how fucking much we need it or stupid people are being in their spending otherwise.

Well, for me at least another part of it is making sure we live long enough to be able to afford the super ability

Things like All is Equal and Incandescent Armor are really just to make sure we don't get squished when we step into higher-level stuff

Just having the prerequisite levels won't be enough, not by my estimation

Unlock Sun's and Moon's Existence Bonus
I've got a prediction about how our Existence Bonus works, based on the name of this upgrade and our Growth Affinity of Balance.

Seems that our Existence Bonus is meant to simultaneously balance things out and tilt things in our favor.

This makes me think it works something along the lines of one of these variants.
  1. Sun and Moon can set their Existence Bonuses to any value they want, as long as the sum of their Existence Bonuses is +0. So they could both be +0 by default, but at any moment they could temporarily switch to Sun having +400 (same as CWMGQ Epic) and Moon having -400.
  2. Sun and Moon get Existence Bonuses equal to that of their opponent(s).
  3. Sun and Moon get Existence Bonuses equal to that of their opponent(s), and each one can temporarily transfer their share to the other. So if fighting a single opponent with a +200 bonus (CWMGQ Myth), by default Sun and Moon each get +200, but they can also temporarily switch to Sun having +0 and Moon having +400.
  4. #3, but with the ability to use negative numbers like #1.

So, back to what I actually wanted to do with this... @Faraway-R, any of those three by your choice:
There there, I'm not offended, no harm no foul.

After having pondered all the shinies up to trade, here's my choice:

Abyss Knight's Sheet Level 3 please. I actually think @LightLan is right here.

Here's my reasoning:
1) With everything we have been hinted about with Nightmare Child (starter for Veteran, one of the strongest MGs if not THE strongest, astonishingly non-evil despite all evidence to the contrary) I think we're fine as is. Intel on her is not a pressing issue.
2) It's relatively early into the quest, so most of the items currently on sale we're going to acquire eventually. Even if Complete Connection is a lure I am barely able to resist.
3) Nobody else except Abyss Knight is that significant for us. She is a mover and shaker, she is one of the strongest. She is a sufficient benchmark to gauge Nightmare Child by. She is also someone we will eventually have to resolve matters with.

That said, I have a small request I'd like you to consider.
I even have the added incentive!
The request is inside the spoiler:
Please confirm or deny the following statement (using the boolean method of "true" or "false"):

"None of the currently shown Shop Items will permanently and irrevocably reduce the quality of life of Primordial Sun and/or Primordial Moon."

Items with toggleable effects or activation conditions we have control of, do not count as irrevocable or permanent.
Items with "always-on" effects that can have a detriment to them, but that also have a fully mitigating effect later (buy off the negatives with another ability, for example), do not count as irrevocable.

Health: 13,200
Base Damage: 6,200
Base Resilience: 4,950
Magic Modifier: 3,100
Pretty high bass stats, but less than I'd expect unless she's got some stupidly high level ability or a lot of different high level things.
Level 31
Attacks Per Turn: 7
Affinities: Horror | Ruin | Myth
Ability: Smash | Juggernaut | Sunder
This is quite painful.

Pretty high stats for a Myth though, 200 Base Damage and 100 Magic Modifier at level 1. Comparable to a CWMGQ Legend.
Level 17
Base Damage: 17,000
Magic Modifier: 263,500 (433,500)
Affinity: Horror | Ruin
Ability: Total Charge | Channel | Juggernaut | Collateral Damage | Smite
Ahh, so that's what you needed help calculating Total Charge for.

So it takes her at least two, and on average four, turns to cast this spell (less if one of her hidden abilities carries the benefits of Omni-Caster).
Champion's Duty
????????????????????

Avatar of Ruin
????????????????????
Two super abilities? That's more like what I'd expect of someone in her position.
Unshakable Warrior
-Final End Damage below 50% of Abyss Knight's Maximum Health is nullified; negate the first lethal damage each turn
Very, very terrifying ability. Especially if she's also got a damage reduction ability hidden in the unrevealed portions of her sheet.

Is it correct to assume that this ability follows the same rules as the No Sell and Save From Death portions of INDESTRUCTIBLE CORE in regards to what can bypass it?
