Fuck the Silver Gloves, though.
I spent perhaps ten minutes save scumming Steal attempts to get the last item off Black Waltz. I varied my timing on the Steals, I used the menus in case it might affect the RNG, but still, it did nothing. The chance of stealing the Silver Gloves is so low that I finally just gave up entirely, and finished the boss off with a Thunder Sword.
Right, so, as was mentioned, the items you can steal have different rarities, which corresponds with the difficulty of stealing a particular item. There is one item which you could call the common ones, which is a guaranteed success - it has a steal success rate of 100%. Then the less common item is the second ones, which you've sometimes had difficulties with; that one has a steal success rate of 25%. That leaves the other two items - the rare, which is what the Silver Gloves are, has a 6% steal success rate. The super-rare steal has a 1 in 256 chances of success, meaning that, in normal play, you're likely never gonna see one of those.
Even with save states available though, working your way to the rare items, let alone the super rare ones, is still hard. As is typical for PSX RNG, they have 256 numbers that can come up, and only 16 of those numbers would net you the item. As was mentioned before, the RNG progresses down the list every few seconds, as well as each time the game checks for something that requires RNG, but if you're in the wrong part of the list, then just save stating and letting a few seconds pass won't be enough to get the item - if those ten minutes were spent save stating from the same point, then you were probably in the wrong spot on the list. When that happens, the best thing to do is to take another action rather than stealing, letting some other actions be taken so that, when Zidane's next turn comes around, you're in a different portion of the RNG list. That usually works for Rare steals.
Super Rare steals just aren't reasonable to obtain, since you really need to mix savestates and taking action to cycle the entire list, but luckily, the game almost never expects you to get those easily. As was mentioned, after... let's say the first set of FMVs for Disk 3, the Thief Gloves become possible to obtain, and those teach the Master Thief ability. Master thief changes both Rare and Super Rare items steal chances to 15%; with save states, that's about as easy as the non-common 25% ones. So... yeah, you want to get that one at the first opportunity.
Not stealing the Silver Gloves isn't really a problem; you should be able to find some in Lindblum, it's not too rare or advanced of an item.
we get a major story beat for Zidane's Trance and for Vivi's Trance, which makes it weird that the mechanic is just unlocked by default for everyone after the Zidane cutscene and Steiner has already Tranced twice in battle without anyone remarking on it. It feels like at some point in development, Trance was supposed to unlock for each character based on a story beat, but they discontinued the idea at some point.
From my reading of things, the idea is that Trance can either be triggered by a sudden moment of great emotional pain, but also (as in gameplay) by being repeatedly hurt physically; it's not that a big moment of pain awakens Trance, is that it's one way Trance can be triggered, as long as you're capable of it. But getting beat up sufficiently is also enough, if you have the ability to use it - it's just a matter of being capable of it.
Protagonist power, if you will.
