Let's Play Every Final Fantasy Game In Order Of Release [Now Playing: Final Fantasy IX]

Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon, obviously. It has a Chocobo in it, it's Final Fantasy linked. :p
It is also CHOCK FULL of Chunsoft's traditional Mystery Dungeon tropes (something a little like the classical post-Nethack roguelike tropes), with the entire equipment enchant/corrosion/rustproofing system, the randomized consumable items that need to be identified, the hidden traps that range from simple damage/poison to annoying forced unequipping/rust/curse to extremely wicked "summons a bunch of strong enemies to your position" summon traps. (Mind you, forced unequip traps are REALLY useful for removing cursed gear you put on because you were too impatient to get it identified first)

In short, it's one of those games that will REALLY bully you if you rush and don't think carefully about the enemies and environment.

How do I know? Well, I'm familiar with their other work in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Shiren the Wanderer, and also have the Switch port of Everybuddy's Here, the latest of the Chocobo Mystery Dungeon series.

I would like to see Omi's analysis and thoughts on the mechanics in the OG Chocobo's Dungeon, myself.
Or to be more precise, I would like to see what Omi thinks about how they appended an ATB system to what's otherwise a turn-based dungeon crawler.

My memories of briefly playing Crystal Chronicles as a teen are mostly of initial confusion, a vague sense of betrayal that there didn't really seem to be a story, and then eventual boredom and distraction and never playing it again.

well, i've said i wouldn't do 11 but that i would like to do 14, it's just that this latter bit got everyone to tell me that i'm crazy and this would kill me and also the let's play and i needed to stop having such crazy thoughts
I would recommend doing XIV, but just doing it last so that it doesn't stop other games from being played through first.

It's a really interesting game, and there's a lot of people who won't play it because it's an MMO, so it's a good way to get people a measure of the experience of playing it without actually playing it.

There's a story but it's exclusively told through random NPC encounters, one time narration when you enter levels, and then a mad dash through the rest of the 90% of the plot once you find the Top Secret Endgame Area.

As someone who did beat it solo, it's very much a game you either play on your own or you find three friends, because the 2-3 player experience lacks compensation for the loss of players.

Tis a strange game, though one I'm personally fond of.

The path forward is to get even more Matsuno brainrot, starting with Ogre Battle, optionally Ogre Battle 64, Tactics Ogre(any version is fine, but Tactics Ogre: Reborn is recommended), optionally Triangle Strategy, and finally Unicorn Overlord. Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis is optional and can be fit anywhere after Ogre Battle and immediately after Tactics Ogre. Vagrant Story can also be fit into the early parts of this.

Matsuno wasn't involved with Ogre Battle 64, or The Knight of Lodis.

Neither is Triangle Strategy or Unicorn Overlord. It's not about Matsuno's involvement, it's about following the passage of Ogre Battle's DNA along through time. This is why I recommend games he hasn't touched, but feature his influences prominently.

And then we can make Omicron replay the Bozja storyline live on camera, just so that we can all see him suffer.
