Is structural analysis from type moon a charm based spell in potterverse? can it used to detect soul shards?
Why type moon? I mean, we're not from that universe IC, and it probably doesn't exist here either.

Also, remember that we don't have metaknowledge (and the QM is shaking things up so we don't use OOC anyways). For all we know Harry Potter might be a redheaded girl in an orphanage who's lifelong ambition is to be an idol and Voldemort's just a sleazy salesman trying to sell her a used VW beetle.

Edit: since I'm probably on the ignore lists of some people here (read: a lot of them), can somebody who *doesn't* have me on ignore help me reiterate that so the message gets across?

Spell creation is a valid option in potterverse, so we can certainly invent spells based on our criteria, so why a spell similar to that particular type moon spell?

@SouvikKundu: it's probably a charm if we can do it, by the way. Keep in mind that "charm" is a category defined as basically anything that isn't an attack or turning one thing into another. We have a charm that lifts things, a charm that provides a clean air supply, a charm that drives away Dementors, and a charm that summons things, just to name a few.

By the way, what exactly does "structural analysis" do? It's obviously not the thing you hear about in engineering if we're talking about picking up soul shards.

It is a detection spell to find out the overall state of body and it allows the user to figure out if their any abnormalities exist or not within the body.

I don't know of any Potter-based analysis spells similar to SA. Dumbledore specifically says that he wasn't 100% on whether various items were horcruxes and even the basilisk victims were being treated mostly on guesswork. Divination in general seems a problem for Potter magic.

Not that you know of. Magic from your home-Earth has a few spells like that, but they're all somewhat specialized.

Bingo.

The following week seems to pass pass in a heartbeat. Between your new perfect memory and enhanced ability to read, it's a matter of hours before you have devoured your new collection of books. After which you immediately begin dissecting the words imprinted inside in an attempt to decipher the mysteries of this new method of spellcasting.

Despite having little grounding (and virtually no practice) in the system of magic in question, you believe you've made excellent progress.
Wits=73+80=152(crit1)+82=134(crit2)+35=69(269)
Your grandmother attempts to spring some last-minute 'quizzes' on proper pureblood behavior. Which you not only pass with flying colors, but actually correct a few of her mistakes.

You're a bit concerned at how proud she seemed.

The morning of September 1st finds you at King's Cross station. Your arrival time was a bit later than you would have prefered (due to your grandmother insisting on inspecting your belongings before leaving the manor), but you manage to say your goodbyes and board the train with time to spare.

Finding an unoccupied compartment, on the other hand, is proving to be more difficult.

As your hand reaches the door to the next car, you hear a voice shouting from the other side.

"You take that back!"

Your mind whirs into action as a spike of adrenaline surges through you. Male. Young. Angry (likely do to an insult).

"Take what back? The truth? Your parents were fools. Opposing the Dark Lord like that, you're lucky they're still recognizable."

You'd recognize that voice anywhere. Draco Malfoy tends to leave an impression on a person, no matter how much one wished otherwise.
???=92+10+55!=157vs54=19+35
"Oh?" Another familiar voice, this one much more welcome. "Forgive my poor, muggleborn ignorance, but this would be the Dark Lord that was defeated by a baby, correct? Sounds more like they had a run of bad luck, with gross incompetence of that level. Are you sure this 'Dark Lord' was supposed to be the pureblood ideal?"

"Shut your mouth, mudblood! Your betters are speaking."

"How charming." Hermione's tone was dry "Somehow I expected a pureblooded scion to be more... dignified. So far all I've seen is name-calling and insulting the infirm."

The next noise you hear would best be described as something between a shriek and growl. The door before you is then forcibly yanked open, and a fuming platinum-blond comes storming past you. "Just you wait. Filth like you will know your place soon-enough." He snarls before continuing down the car.

You idly step through the door before it closes, as Hermione Granger and (who you believe is) Neville Longbottom share a grin with eachother.

Any comments?:

[] Compliment Hermione on her sick burns verbal fencing skills.
[] Greet the two of them normally.
[] Greet the two of them normally while faking an attempt at a straight face.
[] Write-In

You know the drill: Voting will begin at Noon (1200 PDT) tomorrow Today (Friday) .

Edit: So SV has a Time function. Wish I'd known that when I started this.

@Jack of Olives would this be an acceptable write-in?

I'll allow it.

Although you should keep in mind that most wizards (and especially purebloods) would be horrified/insulted to have someone refer to their wands as mere 'sticks'.

[] Greet the two of them normally with an actual straight face. There is no need to pretend, not when one is actually accomplished at the social graces.

It is not. The others have not filled in their x's yet but they are indicating how they will vote and will fill them in when it is time to vote. It could be seen as braking the spirit of the instructions but is still not as snowbally as not having a waiting period.
Most of us aren't "actually voting" yet--hell, I'm doing the exact same thing--but it seems that not everybody was made aware of this, so the reminder should still be useful.

That was awesome from Hermione's part. I agree with @yinko there is no need to antogonize anyone yet and let's keep the graceful behavior. Unless Draco persist but I don't think we are at that point yet.

Is it even possible to antagonize somebody in the room? I understand what @Terran Imperium means about not making more enemies than we have to, but the question is who exactly we would be antagonizing otherwise.

Edit: somebody *not* in the room. Phoneposting apparently isn't good for proofreading.

It is likely that Draco is still in earshot at this point closed door or not. And git though he is, he tends to hold a grudge in ways that prove inconvenient... Remarking that Hermione sounded a bit like our gran would be hilarious though as it's pretty much true.
