But only spend a few hours there a day as opposed to the majority of your time awake.

You've got other things to do this week.

"So... how is this going to work?" You ask as you look around the training area. Really, it's a variant of the Dimensional Barrier with a custom terrain program in order to add some variety to the training. The setup is mana-intensive and easily broken by anyone with a bit of dimensional know-how, but useful.

"Well, your spells seem to be accurate enough, and you don't have to worry about efficiency with Eliza helping out. So I'd say what you really need is practice against live opponents."

Well, that's better than rote practice, in your books. Living opponents had a tendency to adapt to weakness and force you to improve.

You'd like to say it was exciting, and to a certain extent it was, but for the most part it was a lot of correcting bad habits, and learning to think things through in combat.

---

The sun is low in the sky, by the time you've finish your daily training.

"So, Eliza." You start as you and your companion walk out of the TSAB facility. "We've got a couple hours to kill; anything you want to do?"

She blinks in surprise at that. "Me, Mistress."

You nod, letting the 'Mistress' thing slide this time. "You've been very patient with me and everything that's gone on. You deserve some kind of reward."
Composure: 77+15=92; Req: 40/80
She pauses in thought. "Well, I was planning on just heading back to the Warehouse with you and watching more Space-Captain Ruby." At your your curious expression she elaborates. "It's based on that book series I was reading last week while you were researching."

You pause and think back to then. You remember your fairy-like device's smiles and excited demeanor as she was reading on the other side of the table. She seemed really into it.

"I remember that. Is the show any good?"

She waggles her tiny hand back and forth. "It's not bad, but some of the scenes lose a lot of their nuance due to not being able to rely on knowing what the character is thinking. That said, I think they got the chemistry between Captain Ruby and Space-Pirate White down perfectly. I hope the actresses win some kind award or something; they deserve it. I'm almost at the end of the second season, where the two of them finally admit their feelings for each-other during the fight against the Pernian hordes."

You're... not sure what to make about all of that. Apparently your formal, almost-military, fairy-shaped device has become a major fan of a space-opera series.

...Wait a minute "Wait, can't you just divert some processing power and watch the program mentally?"

She blinks before blushing at your question. "It's... just not the same. Watching it on a screen in real-time makes it feel... more real, somehow."

You mentally shrug. "Sounds Interesting. Do you think you could introduce me to the series? I can make some popcorn, and we can watch it together."

You can't help but note that the smile on your companion's face has a manic quality to it all of the sudden.

GM's Note: Sorry for being away for so long, everyone. My RL problems have been straightened out, my head's mostly on straight again, and I'm mostly over this cold.

Anyway, I finally got this done, and I should have the next part out sometime tomorrow.

Oh, and as far as Eliza's hobby: she's spent most of her time with you in a library while you were studying. She got bored. :D

Lyrical Nanoha 15b
Lyrical Nanoha 15b:

"Okay. I think we should call it a day." Captain Alpine pants as his shield spell dissipates the last of your attacks; visibly covered in sweat. The dimensional barrier fades out a few seconds later.

"What's the matter, Captain?" One of his subordinates calls out in a joking tone. "Can't keep up with one rookie?"

"'Can't keep up with a Triple-A class cyborg with a unison device' you mean?" He calls back in an equally joking tone. "Fuck you, Roddy!"
Composure: 53+15=68
You do your best to keep your response to a grin.

"I really do appreciate this, by the way." You comment as he gulps down some kind of sports-drink. "I know this helps out you guys, too." The combat-data itself (especially from both a Combat Cyborg and a Unison Device) probably made this more than worth it for them, but- "I know there are probably other things you'd rather be doing right now."

"You'd be surprised." He mutters to himself, before changing the subject." By the way, I've been meaning to ask: How does someone from so far out in the boonies (no offense) get Combat Cyborg alterations, anyway?"

[] "A lady has to have some secrets."
[] "I honestly don't know the details."
[] "I think my parents had some kind of connections."

"Huh. Fair enough." He shrugs. "Anyway, Your skills have definitely improved since we started. Feel free to come back next week, if you're feeling up for another go."

"Thank you, Captain. I may just take you up on that." You comment, as you and Eliza start heading for the exit.
Wits: 18+15=33 XD
"So Eliza," You begin, turning to your fairy companion; who starts from where she was looking back at the TSAB members. She quickly turns to look at you with a strained smile. "Did you want to watch more Space-Captain Ruby?"

The sickly look on her face quickly changes to one of delight. "Yes! *cough* I mean: I would be delighted, Mistress."

"Then let's head home." You reply with a small grin of your own.

"Oh! And just call me Vivian." You add with a poke to her tiny side.

Nothing particularly interesting happens.

Also, next time you're bringing someone else besides Eliza to shop for clothes with. The artificial-fairy was incredibly hard to get an opinion out of when you were trying on outfits, and seemed to want to get out of there as fast as possible.

Then again, considering what she usually wears, it may just not be the way she was programmed.

In regards to finding a job: as someone who isn't a citizen of Bureau-controlled space, you find yourself having rather poor luck in your part-time job hunting.

It's not that you couldn't find anything, but that what you could find was... nothing you were particularly interested in doing. Menial labor and service-jobs for the most part.

Friday finds the two of you looking through electronic travel brochures for different areas of Midchilda.

"So, what do you think? Want to check out the Belkan Self-Governed Area? They'd likely have a lot of stories and information about unison devices."

"I guess..." she doesn't seem all that enthusiastic about the idea. Or maybe she's just nervous. "How about visiting an amusement park? From what I've read, 'Gates' is supposed to be the Midchildan equivalent of Disney World. They've got stuff for everyone."

"I've never been one for amusement parks." Actually, the closest things you've ever been to was carnivals (which you've always thought of as noisy and childish) and the World's Fair back when it was still running (which was admittedly fascinating, but still noisy for your tastes). "Besides, we're trying not to spend too much at the moment."

"Ah, nevermind then." She goes back to flicking through screens.

"Oooh!" You hear her perk up a minute later. "How about the beach? That sounds like a good place to relax."

You consider this for a minute. "Eh, Maybe." Beaches weren't really your thing either.

"Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way." You decide after another ten minutes.

"How so?"

"At the moment, we're just looking through options randomly. The question we should be asking ourselves is:

What do we want to do?"

The thought is sweet, but- "Thank you, but I'm not interested in reconnecting with long-lost family or anything." You say with a smile and a shake of your head. "I have Eliza and a lot of opportunity in my future. If I want a family, I'll make one myself."

You're confused for a moment as the TSAB-man coughs and turns his head, cheeks flushing. You turn to look at Eliza, who's face is red and seems to have spaced out somewhat. You quickly replay what you'd just said before softly smacking your forehead. "You know what I meant!"

Luck: 3-25=-22 Crit Failure!
A short trip to a trans-continental teleportation station, finds the two of you standing in front of a humongous artificial canyon.

Seriously; your scans show that it's several kilometers across and more than a couple deep.

"And this, ladies and gentlemen, is The Great Scar." The perky tour-guide that your group is following explains.

It was Eliza who had suggested seeing the sight of one of the biggest local battle during the Belkan Wars.

You'd actually read about this place; two local warlords were fighting on the ground (and sky) while their fleets fought in the space over the planet. While the space battle was fairly even, the ground battle was less-so, and would have been a complete route, if one of the warlords hadn't diverted one of his ships to bombard the enemy.

The Great Scar was created when the ship fired it's main gun into an enemy fortification. Thankfully, it wasn't at full power, or the fallout would have been catastrophic. As it is, one of the first things that the TSAB had to do upon it's founding was to use some minor terraforming to fix some of the damage done to the planet.

They'd kept most of the landscape as it is; although if that was as a memorial or for future tourism you couldn't say.

Still, as you and Eliza take in the sight of the massive chasm, you can't help but imagine how that battle must have happened. The light of spells, the clash of Belkan devices, the explo-

The other tourists give a start a the olive-colored barrier appears around them. Followed by screams as an explosion goes off across the canyon, followed by a shockwave making everything shake.

"Everyone, please remain calm." The guide tries to restore order over the panicking shouts around you.

But that's all background noise, because you and your partner are staring across the way at the humongous wolf-like monstrosity that has appeared.

And you can feel it's malevolent gaze directly on you.

What will you do?:

A few seconds later, you've unisoned with Elisa and have gotten some distance from the tour group.

Master, it appears to have another jamming field; we won't be able call for help or set up a dimensional barrier.

Wonderful. Looks like we're on our own again. And don't call me 'Master'.

We can take it, M-Vivian.

It comes as little surprise as you watch the wolf-like monstrosity get a running start before leaping towards your position over the chasm.

Mistress! What does surprise you is the six glowing metal balls that suddenly appear arrayed around it during it's jump.

"Shield!" As you watch one of sinister orbs slam into your hastily raised spell, it occurs to you that you really need to name your shield spell.

You manage to dodge most of the shots, but one manages to land a hit to your side, shattering Eliza's hastily-raised shield spell. A spike of pain registers in your side, as your barrier jacket fails to completely negate the force of the attack.

The lupine horror lands gracefully on the other side of the canyon, legs already in motion. It looks like it's going to try to make another attack.

Alright, let's see how it does when it can't get a running start. You send to Eliza as you lower yourselves closer to the top of the canyon. That accomplished, you manage to fire some shots off at the charging Lost Logia before it closes in.

[Round 2 (offense): 83(roll) + 15(Wits/Dex) + 25 (Belkan magic) +30 (Eliza's assistance) = 143; Req: 80/100/120/140/160; Lvl-4 Success.]

As several of your Phantom Sparks slam into the charging monstrosity, you idly muse that the other advantage of moving down to this altitude is the flat ground making horizontal shooting more effective.

[Damage: 58; Total Damage: 90; Remaining Health: ???]

Unfortunately, while your attacks have slowed it down somewhat, you again find yourself on the defensive as the beast leaps at you.

[Round 2 (defense: 26(roll) + 15(Wits) + 20 (Situational Awareness) +30 (Eliza's assistance) +10(attack bonus) = 101; Req: 60/100/140; Lvl-2 Success.]

This time, you manage to (barely) dodge the majority of his metallic orbs, and none of his attacks managing to penetrate your shield.

As the wolf-shaped lost-logia flies past you, you can't help but feel a bit satisfied as you note it's trajectory will end in it slamming into the canyon wall.

You're significantly less amused as the thing rotates impossibly in midair, and lands into a run down the semi-circular canyon wall. Well, that's annoying. Any Ideas?
???: 55+30=85
We could try a binding spell, but I don't know how well it would work with those orbs to help it. Using a cartridge might help.

You take a moment to ponder that as you watch the annoying thing begin to climb up the other side of the canyon.

[] Eh, we're already winning; why mess with what works?

No need for any extra complications, we seem to be doing well-enough. Let's just blast this thing.

Yes, Vivian.

[Round 3 (offense): 91(roll) + 15(Wits/Dex) + 25 (Belkan magic) +30 (Eliza's assistance) = 161; Req: 80/100/120/140/160; Lvl-5 Success.]

Thankfully, despite it's annoyingly acrobatic fighting styles, the thing still has to (at least somewhat) follow the laws of physics. Which is something you eagerly exploit.

[Damage: 91(rolls) +100(cartridge boosts)= 191; Total Damage: 281/275]

Your Phantom Sparks slam into it's body one, after the other after the other.

Fun fact: Shooting spell volleys can do as much damage as a Buster spell, assuming your enemy's defenses don't negate the less-focused attack (more sometimes due to the spread out nature of the attack).

The two of you watch as the monster crashes to the bottom of the canyon, it's form fighting a losing battle to stay together.

Okay, time to seal this thing.

Yes, M-Vivian. Sealing Mode!

You watch as your rifle-shaped device shifts into something resembling a cross between a futuristic leaf-blower and flame-thrower.

Then the fireworks begin.

Name your sealing spell?
[] Nah. It's not like you'll use it all that often.
[] Fetter Lock
[] Spectral Prison
[] (Write-In)

As you cast your spell, your Belkan triangle appears underneath the beast before streamers of magic erupt from the 'muzzle' of your device. They quickly reach out and envelop the monstrous wolf and the entire thing begins to glow.

The two of you can feel the lost logia's feeble attempt to resist the binding, even as you methodically overpower the enchantments placed upon the host and forcibly revert the broken object into a dormant state.

A fist-sized orb is extracted and sucked into the muzzle, accompanied by Eliza's. Sealing Successful.
luck check: 75
Also, lying on the ground where the beast once did is what appears to be an injured and unconcious Midchildian wolf-pup.

A quick examination shows that it's injuries seem to have been caused by some kind of wild animal, likely before the Lost Logia activated.

It also appears to be undernourished.

While you've never studied lupine anatomy in any kind of depth, your enhanced memory (and the extensive amount of subjects you've read) combined with logical deduction fill in a lot of the gaps.

The familiar sight of your magic's triangle appears underneath the wounded wolf-pup as you work on it's injuries.

First you close it's wounds so it doesn't lose any more blood. Then you start on it's injured organs. Unfortunately, due to the poor thing's malnutrition, you're not able to do much more than patch them up, out of fear of stealing needed nutrients from other places in the body.

Still, by the time you've finished, the pain in it's posture has faded, and it appears to be sleeping peacefully, now.

Well, you've dealt with more then your fair share of those types over the years.

"My apologies, sir. How can I help you?" You keep your tone polite and professional.

"Enforcer Potter of the TSAB. I take it you're the one who dealt with the incident here."

"Yes, sir." You say with a nod. Best to let him do all the talking; his type tends to like to take charge of the conversation.

"Then for starters, you can hand over the lost logia that you've sealed." He says in a mostly deadpan tone. There was a hint of a challenge in there, like he was daring you to question his authority.

"Of course." You nod. Acting on Eliza's instructions you place your hand under your gun-device's stock. "Extraction." A metallic orb, about the size of your palm (with lines seemingly carved into it), falls into your hand after a brief lightshow.

You offer it to the TSAB agent, who wastes no time sealing it into his own device.

???: 20; Bureaucracy: 99+15+25=139(Crit!)
By the time you've gotten out of the local TSAB base, you've decided two things.

The First is that you're incredibly glad that Chris (Captain Alpine) dealt with most of the paperwork during the previous incidents. Even with your, experience, perks, and Eliza's help the amount of paperwork you just had to wade through took a couple hours to go through. Although the whole things was made easier after discovering that a lot of the paperwork handed to us was unnecessary to your purpose there. You weren't sure if the secretary was just lazy, or of it was Enforcer Potter's fault.
Composure: 28+15=43; Req: 40/80/120
Which brings you to The Second thing: Enforcer Potter was an absolute asshole.

You don't usually swear, even in your own head, but you think that the descriptor was more than appropriate in this instance.

Anyway, aside from his annoying attitude and disbelief in both your stated and recorded explanation of events (seriously, you had to wait for hours for their forensic guys to confirm that Eliza's recording was both perfectly accurate and unedited), the man seemed to take it as some kind of personal offense that someone from a 'backwater planet' like you was the one who resolved the incident. And then there was the fact that he kept treating Eliza like she was a fancy toy (that a primitive like you weren't worthy of owning).

Seriously, how did someone like him get to be in any kind of position of power?

It was late in the afternoon by the time You and Eliza managed to finish up with everything, and both of you were steamed.

"Gah! The nerve of that self-righteous prick!" Your companion was ranting, now that you were well out of hearing range.

You find yourself agreeing with her. "Unfortunately, people like that are just a part of life." You say as registered teleportation-area comes into view. "I'm guessing his attitude is the reason he was assigned to out here, in the middle of nowhere."

She sighs, and seems to slump forward in mid-air. "I suppose..."

You both continue walking for a minute lost in your thoughts. Both of you still feeling grumpy.

Then an idea hits you.

The two of you are able to find a local diner. The place specialized in flat-breads with various sauces and toppings on them. Not pizza, mind you; but definitely a local equivalent.

You get a few strange looks from the other patrons, but nothing more than that. While unison devices are rare and hard to come by, auxiliary-support devices shaped like them aren't that uncommon with civilians.

After being seated, the waiter quickly returns with drinks for the two of you (you idly note that despite placing utensils that are significantly smaller than normal, she still looks tiny by comparison) and some bread and dipping oil.

After trying a few bites, you decide to speak up about the plans you've been making. "So, I was thinking about heading back to Earth for a few days."

Your companion swallows a bite from her food. "You want to check on how things are going without Precea being there." It isn't a question.

You nod. "'Befriending'. And since Jump-chan can't directly affect what happens to me, I'm a bit worried about what would happen over there if I try to avoid things." You idly take a bite out of your piece of bread as you finish.

She just nods as she appears to be thinking things through. "This way we're able to get the jump on things before they start to escalate. A good plan." She nods.

Achievement Progress: Clueless Protagonist 3/10
Thankfully, the food arrives fairly quickly. You've had Midchildian flatbread before (mostly from the food trucks near the TSAB base), but the quality of this is much higher than anything you've had previously.

Eliza seems to agree, if happy the noises she's making as she eats are any indication.

After eating your fill (and silently thanking your Jumper-grade body for being able to splurge like this) you pay your check before the two of you leave for 'home'.

Luck check: 1-25(super botch!?)- ... *shrug*
A week later, finds the two of you at the local Dimensional-Transit Station, submitting your ID and coordinates for a trip to 'Unadministrated World #97', and quietly cursing the bureaucracy of the whole thing.

You understand the need to keep track of who's leaving and entereing Midchilda, especially when heading to a world outside Bureau control, like you are; but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

"Alright, Miss Mageray," The muscles around your eye twitches slightly, at the middle-aged woman's mangling of your name. "You're cleared for your dimensional transit. Just follow the green line, and I hope you have a wonderful day." You have to give her some credit, at least she's trying to sound friendly. She's not really succeeding, but you can tell that she is trying.

"Finally!" Eliza exclaims quietly as we get out of earshot. "That took almost three hours! I can understand a little wait, but we sent in our travel requests a week ago. It should not have taken this long."

"Don't you have books or games you can access if you're bored?" You ask, somewhat amused at her outburst.

"T-that's not the point! She's wasting y-our time unnecessarily."

You just chuckle.

Wits: 24+15= 39
As you finish the transition, you take a moment to catch your breath. While you may have a good amount of power, the Dimensional Transit spell is still fairly mana-intensive.
Wits (Eliza): 98+15= 113
"Barrier!"

Thus, you're taken by surprise as Eliza's shield manages to block the powerful yellow beam of energy.

As a dimensional barrier goes up around the area, You quickly turn to look at the beam's point of origin.

...And almost wet yourself as you observe those surrounding you:

A 9 year-old black-clad blonde in pigtails and a device with a yellow energy scythe.

Another 9 year-old, this time a white-clad brunette, with an elaborate staff that wasn't Raising Heart.

A smaller redhead with what appears to be an oversized croquet mallet.

A young woman with pink hair and a sword in her hands.

And two wolves, one red and the other blue.

None of which looked happy to see you.

Oh, shit!

What will you do:

GM's Notes: Guess who rolled a nat-1 on their luck roll?

And, yes: There is an in-universe reason for this lineup.

BTW, Sorry about the delays. Between the holidays and catching that bug, things have been hectic.

Anyway, voting will be open until .

Manipulation Check: 96(Minor Crit.)
Wits+Social: 83+15+20=118

"It hasn't even been a month and now we're being ambushed again by criminals!? We haven't even finished our first vacation!" You complain out-loud to Eliza.

"I know what you mean; Just once I'd like to be able to talk things out." She complains, seemingly catching on to what you were attempting.
[Manipulation UP: C -> C+]
While the Wolkenritters' expression doesn't change much aside from tiny winces, Fate's expression darkens, and she moves to charge forward. However, it's Nanoha's reaction that catches your attention the most, as the poor girl almost drops her staff as your words register.

Still, you don't have much time to contemplate reactions as an angry blonde is barreling towards you.

[Unison?: 48+15(Composure)=63 (pass)]
[Combat Round 1 (Defense): 72 +30(Wits/Dex) +20(Combat Training) +25(Unison)= 147; Req 100/120/140/160/180; Result: Level-3 Success]

You and Eliza quickly Unison before taking off into the air as the angry girl's scythe cleaves through where you were standing.

The others quickly move in to attack, but your words (combined with Fate's angry charge) seems to have caught them off guard. While you still have to dodge away from the melee attacks of the three Wolkenritter, they're noticibly off their game.

As you manage to (barely) dodge (and occasionally block with a reinforced part of your rifle) the swings of the multitude of melee attackers, you notice Vita's hammer coming in from the side. In a moment of mad brilliance, you bring your weapon up to block the blow and mentally alter your flight spell temporarily.

[Vivian's Health 199/200]

The end result is you getting launched away from the cluster of opponents and a perfect set up for a counter-attack.

[Combat Round 1 (Offense): 99 +30(Wits/Dex) +25(Belkan Magic) +25(Unison)= 169 (Minor Crit!); Req 100/120/140/160/180; Result: Level-4 Success & Minor Crit]

Your first target is almost a no-brainer; as the blonde was already charging towards your direction, firing a few shots as she did.

Your words must have affected her more than you realized, as she seems to have forgotten about defense.

"Spectral Light." You call out as your launch your buster attack at the charging girl.

She seem to take this as a challenge, and attempts to cut through your attack.

She even succeeds for about half a second,

Before your attack overpowers her defenses, and she's set flying.

[Fate's health 59/150]
Recovery?: 67+15= 82]
Unfortunately, she manage to catch herself before slamming into the building behind her, but you've successfully knocked her away and bought yourself some breathing room.
Tactics+Wits: 66+15+20= 101
