Lets Get To It! Rwby Ideas/discussion Thread

Hey guys. I'm looking for a OP who creates two quests, one here and one in spacebattles.

The sv quest focuses on Ruby and the sb quest on Jaune. Having a hard time finding it right now so a little help would be nice.

How do you feel about AU variants, do you like to stick with more familiar characters? Would you be opposed to a more free form universe based on Rwby or do you like to stick with what you know?

That depends on a lot of factors, are you talking about in writing or reading?

Regardless a big factor is what kind of AU, a change in setting, a single change domino effect, multiple difference but same world, ETC? I think a big factor for me is how well the difference/changes are explained and whether some sense of... I guess the spirit of the characters is still present, at least deep in the foundations or tied into how they have changed somehow.

I was thinking of a story that's inspired by Rwby but instead of being set in the modern day its set in the past, possibly a Medieval fantasy AU or a sort of cave man story about the first man learning to combat the tide of Grimm. Another idea I had was a sort of a 1900's feel in technology.

I think I see.

Well for the cave-persona era story that would likely still be set in Remnant just at a different time period than canon.

The Medieval fantasy feels a bit more like mixing the cast with another setting, so like Yang is a fire mage who mixes it up with CQC and is part dragon or something.

The final 1900's idea sounds more like the cave-person idea than the fantasy one, though if you had the cast there in the timeline it would likely be considered an AU.

Ok, now that I got a computer....

I was thinking of a culture shock thing.

Remember that idea I had? The one where a portal opened up to 1870 London?

Yeah, I had an idea where they sent an embassy to America or something. So basically, they sent in the embassy. And I want to do culture shock. Namely, racism. So lets say that someone especially white, like, say, Weiss Schnee, or Winter, wanders around an American city. Maybe Washington DC. And this is the time of segregation. Maybe she accidentally wanders into the.... coloured section.

Cue puzzled reactions as to why this upperclass white is treating them so politely.

At least tell me. Was it significantly different from Britain's?
Not to be rude, but simply put, if you aren't willing to do the research on this topic I feel it may be best you not write on it.

I feel there is a lot to consider given you would literally be connecting two separate worlds with drastically different cultures.
I mean the treatment of women alone would be massively different.
Then there's the Faunus to consider.
Plus Aura and Dust are basically magic to our world so the reaction there, let alone to the portal could well be bad.
And given they'd literally be connecting to a new world, it seems odd that they'd send a student there, or anyone without having them briefed on the local culture as best they could and if it opened in London why would they got to the US?

I apologize then. I will ask someone else, if he's alright with it.

That's the idea. For a world where grimm and faunus exist, hating someone cause of skin colour is ludicrous. For women, too. In a world where women can throw freight trains it ain't smart to be misgynistic.

Well, not sure. Little girl tagging along with her big sister? Maybe someone else like Ozpin or Oobleck or Qrow or Port?

Your call.

Hating anyone for skin colour, Faunus traits or sex and gender is ludicrous, just more overtly so in a world with genocide monsters I feel. But as I said, the number of things to consider from the mere existence of such a portal is massive, so why would they even go to the USA? Why would London not be flipping out over magical people with super technology who ignore 90% of their social norms? Why would anyone without a basic grounding in how the society they are visiting go to said society given the circumstances? I feel there's a lot of things you need to figure out first before even going into the culture shock which could happen... Well basically anywhere in one form or another.

Why would Winter be allowed to take Weiss with her? Why would Jac let her or the military for that matter? Plus Winter is only a few years older than Weiss so Weiss wouldn't be a little girl if Winter was there in an official capacity, a teenager at the youngest. One of them would make more sense, though the issues I raised earlier I feel would still need to be considered.

....I apologize.

I forget that you may not be part of the earlier thread.

Here: Remnant (RWBY) meets 1870 Earth

Any other questions I'll answer.

I see, thanks for the link. As I said, I feel it'd be better yo do your own research on the topic, I lack the expertise and there's no brief summary that I feel could give the subject the weight it deserves.
It... its ok.

To be blunt, I don't think I can do this. As mentioned on that thread before, this is something that, if you really want to do this justice, requires a team of historians. And writers. with university education. Each.

Let's just go back to my walking dead fanfic.

Anyway, a question.

So we're in a walking dead fanfic. I've got Ozpin and Weiss in Atlanta.

What challenges can they possibly face?
