Sort of uncomfortable with the feeling that she's just doing it for these reasons over genuinely being interesting, but the lead up, descriptions, flow and tone were all fantastic and really well done, loved lots of the subtle details and interactions, its clear a lot of thinking was going on behind the writing beneath the surface.

That was part of the original idea, that although finding Neon attractive, Weiss starts to get involved for the wrong reasons, before realising that she might be falling in love. Although that might be subject to revision.
So, similar to A Semblance of Happiness, I kinda had a thought about Weiss' Semblance. Namely, what if Weiss, or a relative, because of the whole hereditary Semblance thing, was utterly, absolutely obsessed with tech in all it's forms.
My best idea for that is having the glyphs become electrical circuits and magnetic insolaters, allowing them to create any electromagnetic system they want, with the restrictions that it has to be physically functional and rigid. But, they can be put on objects to make them interact with eachother, allowing scrap metal to turn into improvised power armor by using the Semblance to make motors attached to the armor segments and an analogue control interface, or an android if Weiss/tech-obsessed Schnee offshoot person has the programming and knows how to make programmable circuits.
Oh, and railguns, coilguns, plasma weapons and quite a few other things are entirely rigid circuits. So once they make those work, they are never without a weapon so long as they have ferromagnetic metal. And induction heating can let them melt any metal with a touch. Generally, it's a very bullshit Semblance idea, but the character has to be a tech genius to the point of being implausible to get very far.
If it's Weiss that has the techy-overhaul Semblance, then we can have a lot of tech talk between Weiss, the by-the-books well-learned moderate-to-severe genius and Ruby, the largely-backwater weapons-obsessed savant with little to no proper teaching of how things work.
That was part of the original idea, that although finding Neon attractive, Weiss starts to get involved for the wrong reasons, before realising that she might be falling in love. Although that might be subject to revision.
So wierd Idea. Promethean the created cross with RWBY
Day 1
It worked! I know it sounds crazy as I put it to paper. Doing all that work and breaking several laws for something that wasn't even guaranteed to work. But It did, I brought my brother back from the grave! He's still confused and somehow even clumsier then normal. But I've got no doubts that it will pass. Coming back from the dead can't be easy on a person's mind.
I'll have to keep Jaune from the family for a while. Mom, dad and the elder sisters are still on their hunting trips and the fact you brought your recently deceased older brother back from the grave probably should be something to the whole family at once. Not to mention I'll have to wait anyway for the confusion to pass.
But things can finally go back to normal! He won't even have to cover up the things I did to his body, the ritual symbols and phrases I carved into his skin faded away as soon as he broke out of the ground. He looks exactly as he did before the accident.
Day 4
Jaune has been progressing nicely, He still has strange issues with language, he struggles to read and he can't speak without mangling words. If he speaks at all and doesn't just write it down. Somehow reading and speaking is harder on him then writing things down. Unfortunately everything he writes down is in Mistrali and I can't speak a word of it. Did the ritual force that language into his mind? I had to carve mystical phrases and who he was into his skin before the burial and I barely understood the ritual in the first place.
Given that he'll have to speak Valian as a native language or the family I'll have to put some extra work into it. Maybe give him a few of the old books with children's stories in to keep him occupied and help him with his language troubles. It might even help with his restlessness. I can sympathise with it though, being cooped up in here can't be an enjoyable experience. At least it won't be for much longer.
Day 12
Jaune is still acting odd. His language problem has been improving. He doesn't fall back on the written word anymore as more then a week. But he still doesn't seem to recognize me or anybody else of the family, not even having a feeling of familiarity when I show him pictures.
But what's more worrying is the questions he's been asking. About the soul and aura. He talks about he has a blazing fire in the place of a soul and if it will change. When I press the issue about how he would know it he just shrugs and says he always knew.
I have to look back over my note's to see if these side-effects of the ritual are described somewhere. Or if I can't find some way to learn more about it. But if I can't I'll have to try and get more information out of him.
Day 17
My brother kept badgering me with questions about almost everything especially about souls and the stories I gave him to read, Ignoring any attempts of me to trigger memories of his family and life. He doesn't seem to get that we need to get his memories back as soon as possible? He can't stay hidden forever and the longer it takes for him to remember the longer it will take before things will go back to normal. Not to mention it would be hard to explain to the family why I kept jaune hidden when he was alive and well.
So I've taken away his books and stories and exchanged them with the family albums. Maybe he'll be able to focus on the important things when his stories are gone.
Day 18
He has been snappy and uncooperative ever since I took away his books. Every word he said has had some kind of snark hidden in it. But I'm used to scarier temper tantrums from my younger sister.
Day 19
He escaped today. He didn't go far, he got caught up in his own curiosity in the kitchen. Playing with the things in there like it was the first time he saw them. But he managed to break down the heavy wooden door. Snapping the lock like it wasn't even there. I've tried to explain that he couldn't just go around breaking doors. But he got snappy at me for being confined. I knew there was no explaining to him when he was in that state so I just guided him back to where he was supposed to be with promises of his books.
I'll have to repair and reinforce the door. He promised to stay inside for now. But He already broke my trust once, I can't take any chances.
Day 23
I'm sure it's jaune inside that body anymore. I'm not even sure that Jaune was ever in there since the ritual. But whatever it is now It looks human and sounds human But it's not even remotely close to it.. I accidental burned him. I just gave him a few things to keep him busy and placid while I reinforced the door. Jaune was always carefull enough around flame, years of cooking experience drilled that into him. But it doesn't even seem to have the instinct that fire means danger. As soon as it came into contact with the flame it howled in pain as the skin curled back and sloughed off it's bones. He then tore the electrical plugs out of the wall and grabbed on to the electrical wires before I could stop him.
I'm sure I saw the skin on his hand grow back before the circuit breaker blew and the lights went out.
That thing is still down there as I write. I need to get whatever is inside Jaune's body out of it so I can retry the ritual, something has gone terribly wrong and I need to fix it. No wonder it hasn't been acting like my brother should have!
Day 25
I tried to exorcise Jaune's body from whatever was defiling it yesterday. But it was cleverer then it looked. At first it tried to talk me out of it. Appealing to emotions and acting like it didn't deserve to be purged out of my brothers body. I tried to reason with it. Told him that it wasn't his body and that he didn't have a right to it. But it got violent. I tried to subdue it but it was to fast for me. He slapped my weapon out of my hand before slamming me to the ground. He loomed over me for a few moments before he turned and fled.
I'm not sure how to explain the damage to my parents and the older sisters when they come home. The garden shed is in ruins. Not to mention I had to go to the doctor and they told me my ribs were cracked.
I'm not sure how to deal with it all. But I know one thing, I have to find the monster I created and put it down. It's dangerous.
So promethean.. for those who don't know of it. think of them like frankenstien's monster. They are the results of attempts to create life by obsessed and desperate peopleand just like frankensteins' monster. They usually end abandoned and shunned by everyone and everything.
Because they don't have a soul. they aren't like the grim though, who just have nothing instead of a soul. Instead of a soul they have a raging fire that tries to mimic the same functions as a soul, but animates their body. It's through that they are 'alive' at all. But the divine fire isn't meant to be around humans. It warps the minds of humans around it. Filling them with disgust and hatred aimed at the promethean. Eventually driving them to lash out at the creature who can't understand why. The divine fire isn't even meant to be in the world, the land rejects being saturated with it. The presence of the divine fire slowly taints the land around it. making life in it difficult until it's almost impossible. As if that wasn't worse enough, the fire is bad at mimicking a soul. Sometimes, under high stress, it just breaks down and the promethean lashes out at everything.
But there is hope, the fire tells the promethean. And the promethean knows it's truth. They don't have to stay like this. They can become human. It doesn't have a straight answer as to how and it speaks only in sporadic flashes and visions. But Like the alchimist turning base lead into gold. So can the promethean turn his dangerous and toxic fire into a true human soul and be born anew.
That's.. "Jaune's" only resort right now. Follow the vague refinements that the fire whispers to him about, try to learn and apply what it means to be human and hope that if he manages to see the harsh journey through he can be reborn as a human. Not a stitched and marked body animated by strange fire.
The basic structure for the upcoming arcs are mostly like this.
At first, after the escape. Him cowering mostly in fear. He is being hunted by his sister. He's in a world that hates him and that he knows nothing about. He's surrounded by people that quickly spiral into hating him if he is around them and he's scared. He wants to live so he can eventually refine his fire into a soul.
THe world phoses physical challenges so he overcomes them. He learns about his body and what it can and can't do. And then he is forced to drive it beyond those limits. The refinement of iron comes to him he seeks out adversity and endures it's blows. Trying to rise above the challenges. The fire whispers of harder challenges to come. So he steels himself for those.
But eventually he understands that while physical improvement and understanding of ones own body is a step towards the goal of producing his own soul. it is but a step, not the entire journey. and that while facing adversity and challenges is all well and good. You have to learn when to face it head on and when to take a step back.
He thinks, he wants to be human, so why not try and learn from humans? He steps away from the refinement of iron and onto the refinement of gold. He walks among them and tries to ape their behavior. Desperatly trying to figure out what makes them tick, what is wrong with him? How can he fix his flaws so he can become like them?
He searches through the crowds for somebody that stands out as a shining example of humanity to learn from.. He ends up choosing Yang. He can see that other people enjoy being around her. That smaller girl she is with looks up to her and the few times she is as a party. She's the life of it. He spends weeks observing her and attempting to copy her behavior. Trying to fake it until he makes it. He quickly hits a wall he just can't figure out why what he does works or doesn't. Worse, sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't. He tries to talk to yang, get advice from the person he is trying to emulate and learn from..
It doesn't work out well, He is barely containing his frustration. She doesn't react well to the fact he has been observing her from a distance, calling him a stalker no matter how much he tries to explain. Disquiet, the effect of his fire on the human mind pushes her over the edge and she punches him into a wall. Jaune just snaps in response. His Internal fire stutters and he lashes out in torment. They fight and Yang looks on in horror as Jaune shrugs of injuries that should have killed people. No matter how many times she breaks his body. He pulls himself back on his feet and throws another punch at her face.
In the end, Jaune retreats to lick his wounds, escaping Yang's terrified wrath. He's battered, torn and pissed as he holds onto a powerline, the electricity knitting his broken body back together. He's done with playing nice and trying to fit in. He's sick of being the world's punching bag and decides to get even. He steps of the refinement of Gold and onto the refinement of tin. Grabbing her disquiet, torment and the rage that the world aims at him with both hands and readies himself to throw it back into the world's face.
At this point, ozpin and the rest of the RWBY is figuring out that something strange and dangerous is on the lose. RWB might be skeptical of Yang's claims of a man who got thorn to shreds by her punches and ignored it as if it was just a scratch. But ozpin knows enough to figure out what's going on.
Okay. Need opinions on a weapon/semblance combination for an SI on a heavily modified jumpchain visiting RWBY. He's most recently been to 40K at this point, and has HPverse magic, FMA alchemy, a teleportation esper ability, and a Minecraft-style inventory. He may also be a psyker; I'm still deciding whether he gets that while visiting 40K.
The mods are simple enough: the jumper has no fucking say in the jumps or perks (or drawbacks), and he's stuck in a jump until the job's done. Oh, and he gets no companions (except non-companion companions like sapient weaponry or shit like that; the catch is that whatever it is can't get points of its own). He's being trained into an Artificer/Tinker to combat an epic-scale threat that's going to hit his homeworld shortly after he gets home.
So, RWBY jump. I'm thinking the weapon is a shortstaff that splits at the middle into an extensible chain weapon (max reach of about 100m?). One end can unfold into spikes or hooks (depending on the orientation they unfold in), while the other can pop up into a wireframe sphere made of bands of metal. The controls for both ends are duplicated on each, so that one can hold the near end and expand the far end. Need a name for this thing (and for the character, while I'm at it). The character's last name will be my handle, and his RWBY first name will be something orange in theme.
As for the semblance, it's a sacrificial shield. He can make a bubble shield (or a section of one) of any size as long as his aura is charging it from within a meter of the circumference. Given that RWBY combat often involves reinforcing weaponry with aura, this means he can (at tremendous aura cost) maintain a dome shield with a radius of his weapon's reach. I've got this cinematic scene in mind where he buys time for the allied teams to regroup by getting atop a boulder or large piece of rubble and swinging the sharp head of the weapon in a circle above everyone. The problem with this semblance is that the shield burns aura for integrity, and fractions of hits propagate through to him. The portion of each hit that's copied to him increases as shield strength wanes. Great for team support, shit for individual combat.
So, I need ideas for orange-themed first names, names for the weapon, names for the semblance, and critiques of either the weapon or semblance.
Rather than Crocea Mors, the heirloom weapon of the Arcs is a plain looking arming sword with a blade broken about two-feet from the hilt. The break is fairly straight and has been sharpened up so it can still be used for slashing. Jaune is aware this isn't ideal as a weapon but it's what he has.
Things go more or less fine until he uses it in sight of Dove Bronzewing who freaks. That's a Bronzewing sword, in a style and of a material only forged by Dove's family for their family and never sold. How did Jaune get an antique that should be property of Dove's family and how did he break it!
Jaune has no idea and and is being a bit evasive to cover up the 'took it and came here without permission' part, which means he sounds suspicious. This leads to a shouting match and both teams getting involved - until Glynda Goodwitch intervenes and drags the instigators off to see Ozpin.
Ozpin makes it clear he knows what's up... but that wouldn't be a good lesson having him give them the answers. So the punishment for them is to work together to research the answers to the question.
It turns out that during the Great War, a Bronzewing and an Arc fought together in Vacuo. The Bronzewing died and both their weapons were broken so the Arc fought on with the least damaged weapon, the broken Bronzewing blade. After the war he took it back to the Bronzewing family but in the spirit of the alliance of the families was allowed to keep it. And why was this treasured family tale not passed down to Dove and Jaune?
Well, it seems they had a major falling out during the Faunus Rights Revolutions when the two families were on opposite sides. (Probably the Arcs were pro-faunus but it'd be a nice reversal to be the other way around).
However, with Jaune and Dove asking older huntsmen around this, it's assumed that in this generation things are being patched up and this rumour gets around, including to both sets of parents. Now both of them are in the shit with their parents over having anything to do with 'those backstabbing Arcs'/'those treacherous Bronzewings'.
A plotbunny visited me in the late hours of the night: an RWBY x Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask crossover. No real idea on the plot, but a major point of the story would be utilizing the Song of Healing to major effects, like creating Grimm Masks to allow Link (or anybody who he gives a Mask) practically ignore Grimm by becoming one temporarily, with the finale being Ozpin calling Link to Beacon so he can create a Fall Mask from comatose Amber, which can then be used to give the power of the Fall Maiden temporarily to just about anyone.
And that's it. Can't really call that a plot yet, but I could build one around it. Other scene ideas would be: canon cast (including Ozpin) using the Fall Mask, creating Semblance Masks from dead/dying Hunters and dungeon (Ruin) diving with Link.
Playing too much gears of war judgement got me to this point...
So basic idea team rwby and jnpr manage to literally stop the attack on vale get better faunus rights and beat salem into falling in love with ozpin... they just did so in such a collasally messed up potentially illegal and strange way.
Now the four of them are standing trial in front of a newly formed remnant wide court for the following charges
"I will now read the cjarges for teams rwby and jnpr"
"You eight have been charged with the following crimes."
Destruction of private property
Bake:"Well to be fair we thought it was abandoned"
Destruction of public property
Yang: "isnt it always though?"
Theft of classified technology
Ruby: "hey she is just as much of a person as any of us!"
Multiple assault cases
All of them: "WE'RE HUNTERS IT WAS EXPECTED"
Several kidnapping cases
Weiss: "I had no interest in returning to atlas regardless of what my father said"
Blake: "and those faunus were going to leave the white fang anyway we just helped them get out faster.
Obstruction of justce
Juane: hey the cops werent doing anything to stop the planned attack on amity
Multiple cases of breaking and entering
Ren: Oh yes because crimminally held werehouses are indded protected under the law
Copious amounts of arson
Nora: that was fun but we did put them out afterwards that counts for something right.
Arms trafficking
Ruby: they threatened to dismantle crecent rose nobody does that to her NOBODY.
Identity theft
Juane: how was i suppoused to know that smitty werbenjagermanjensen was a real person it sounds completely made up.
Bringing of grimm into a public area
Pyrrha: that was roman torchwick and the white fang we were trying to stop that train.
Posession of illegal substances
Phyrra: Nora was an orphan how were we suppoused to know that coffee was a banned substance for her everywhere but onyuri and menagerie
Selling drinks to a minor
Ruby: yang did't sell it to me she gave me some as a gift.
Defemation
Blake: Its not defemation if its true even weiss confirmed it
Starting several riots
Nora: they were rioting anyway we just joined in
Witholding information
Phyrra: I never even made it to ozpins office how was i suppoused to know about the maidens
Disturbing the peace
Yang: I'm sorry are we being charged with doing our jobs.
And jaywalking
............
"What no remark from the accused this time?"
Juane: No you pretty much got us dead to rights on that one.
"Right the council of judges will now hear your testimony on what happened to lead go all of these charges. At the emd of your testimonies we will ensure a swift and fair verdict. We will begin with miss nikos. Tell us how did all this begin?"
---------------------------------------------------------
So yeah this whole thing would just end up being pure crack. Esentially think of this as the rwby worlds good end in just three volumes where things fall into place just right to benefit the world. But our heroes would need to go from sensible responses to more drastic measures for it to work.
Esentially a more lighthearted gears judgement but with rwby. Starts off normal just clear out the white fang and grimm which slowly devolves until the end up droping the remnant equivelant of a lightmass missle on salem and convincing ozpin to trick salem into thinking that she was his fiancee.
Yeah i dunno what im on but i'm willing to share...
Might as well put this idea up in this thread for more exposure:
Long story short, there's a Ruby cosplayer who ends up inheriting not only her powers, but also her memories. Unfortunately, the recent memories she had were filled with tragedy with the Fall of Beacon, the deaths of Penny and Pyrrha, and her betrayal at the hands of Cinder's group. Not only that, but it also creates a vengeful feeling inside of the cosplayer. A vengeful feeling that Ruby herself has inside of her.
However, something stops Ruby from getting to the point where she becomes bloodthirsty for Cinder's death: her innocence and determination to be a Huntress. Yes, she is pretty scarred from the events that happened, but she's gonna keep trucking to help save Remnant.
The cosplayer, however, does not have that luxury. And so, he ends up being corroded by this vengeful feeling and his character arc is to try and struggle with these feelings.

I mean no offense to crossdresser but making the cosplayer female might be better because influence of body won't mess with reaction to alien memories, making the memory absorption completely intact.

I'm not talking about body I'm talking about memories. Fifteen years worth of memory of a girl dumped into one man, that's going to cause so much dissonance you can write thesis out of it.
OK

I mean you could make that as a part of important subplot, that also interesting to read. But in my humble opinion removing the gender barrier means the story will be more focused on the memories/feeling side better, simpler to present and understand.
Playing Assassin's Creed Liberation (the Vita spinoff), and I started comparing the protagonist, Aveline de Grandpre, to Blake Belladonna, and how well the two would fit. Specifically with the big gimmick of the game, outfit changing. For you see, Aveline is of African descent, and is able to disguise herself as a slave by dressing up in a ratty outfit and binding her hair in a bun. However, she has some European blood in her (probably French) and her skin is light enough that she can put on a noblewoman's dress and pull off the look of a noble with an 'exotic' look to her.
This leads me to Blake being an accomplished assassin for the White Fang because of her faunus nature (her second set of ears) can be easily disguised, which is apparently convincing enough to fool a bunch of humans she was living with for several months. Blake can keep her bow off and look like any other faunus to be ignored as a complete nobody, but by putting on her bow and some formal attire she can disguise herself as a member of the sophisticated elite. She has the whole noble "I'm superior to you in every way" arrogant strut down. And then she can put on her... however the fuck you describe her default outfit and put on a White Fang mask, and go about her public White Fang business.
Sudden though for an AU with focus in world building: Take a page out of My Hero Academia and have a booming business spring around Hunter culture. So, while there's the people training to become super-human warriors to fight the endless hordes of hellspawn, there are also other courses in combat schools and Hunter academies to support those people or even try and learn different ways of fighting the Grimm.
You could have people working together to develope new technologies to go into the mechashifting weapons, develop new types of armor more fitting for Hunters, effective traps for the most common Grimm found in specific regions, or even develop more autonomous robots to scout and areas and keeb tabs on Grimms that seen to be planning something.
Could be a good setup to have Ruby interacting with the tech development crowd, maybe dragging Yang into it too because her little sister is making friends. Maybe have Weiss discuss business and her plans for the future with people who know about it. Could have Blake hiding in the corner trying really hard to not reveal the fact she knows the ins and outs of the production of generic White Fang gear.
PS: Aaaand now I realize this is the perfect set up for a Hero Academia crossover with Jaune as the inheritor of One-for-All. Goddammit.
The best part is that Quirks can be easily re-labeled as Semblances. I mean, you need to do some stuff to adjust the way the Quirks function or their user's personalities, because Semblances universally tie into personality traits.
A thought came to mind recently: humans and Faunus being as they are, a Huntsman going rogue and turning their skills against society/their fellows was only a matter of time. However, a fully trained Huntsman is not someone any random law enforcement/military group can deal with without unsustainable losses -so it becomes up to other Huntsmen and Huntresses to find them and deal with them by any means necessary. How would the various Hunter Academies go about training their students for a task they can only hope will never befall them? How do the students themselves deal with the idea that one day they might need to fight and kill people they spent years with, were possibly quite close to?

In some respects it seems the academies already do this. After all their sparring is against other people more than Grimm (Though they have classes for that as well) so there's liable to be the assumption that they may need to use those skills on other people as well. Similarly, the idea of them being guardians of the people/peace is also noted both by the teachers and the students, so while the intent might be "Become Hunter to fight Grimm" the reality seems to be woven into the culture and teaching.
As it stands, RWBY don't seem terribly bothered, however they are an A-typical team, so may not be the best reference.
Hey everyone
What is everyone idea of a World War one/two fusion with RWBY.
With the Vale as the United States/United Kingdom, Atlas as Germany, Mistral as Japan/China, and the Faunus as the various nations that make up the Soviet Union.
The Grimm would be created due to the massive amount of death and suffering caused by world war one and world war 2.
With the Grimm finally emerging during the Second World War.
Ruby and Yang would, of course, be Americans. Maybe have one relative from the United Kingdom.
Wiess would be the heiress to a well-known German arms company with ties to Britain.
Blake would be a Soviet catgirl.
While Nora would be an orphan living in China after her Christian missionary parents were killed in a Japanese bombing raid during the second Sino-Japanese war after they refused to abandon their Chinese patients at the local Christian hospital in Shanghai.
Nora would eventually meet Ren and travel together and try to survive.
