Kingdom on the World's Edge [A Fief Builder / Cultivation Quest]

The way I see it... Baishan, right now, is hungry, and strained, with a large army, and we're a pretty fat neighbor. So they're being obnoxious, but I don't think it's any more obnoxious than some of the diplomatic moves we've pulled on them in the past. It's not like the thing that they're asking for is even all that unreasonable.

I mean, I don't want to take the offer or anything, but responding with a "You dare?!" and then gathering three neighboring countries to go eat her just seems really excessive if we have other options... especially as we've been pretty friendly with her in the past.

I largely agree. I don't see any need to be rude, beyond perhaps a pointed note that their ambassador's behavior did them no favors, and no need to attack them immediately, we just turn them down.

I think we need to do a bit more than that. Like, there was an implied threat in that letter. At minimum, we need a "No, and this is why we're not actually concerned with your threats and why you might want to retroactively decide that you hadn't made that in the first place." Like, if we just say "No", then she'll probably escalate, and then keep escalating until we either give in or give her a reason to give in.

Seriously, though. How do things look on the qi front if we have someone go Emperor? Is this a plausible strategy? If it is, I think now might be the time.

Eh, just send her a one word "No." reply without anything more to it, she'll go ballistic not knowing why we're so confident and if she's missed something and and and. Also get her ambassador into some manufactured scandal, boot them for it, and ask for a replacement in the same letter.

How long do we have to answer @Arcanestomper?

[ ] Develop a relationship with the Kingdom of Tiangong (Ordinary Monarch)
[ ] Develop a relationship with the Kingdom of Lugong (Ordinary Monarch)
[ ] Open Negotiations with a Kingdom
-[ ] Talk to Tiangong and Lugong about conquering Baishan and splitting it up between the three of you.

I wanna do these to get a Fuck Baishan alliance going but neither of our Monarchs has any real skill in Diplomacy, and training might take a hot minute.

Things will get increasingly tense the longer you go, but probably three years before Baishan assumes the answer is no by default. Unless you send diplomats to delay things. Remember that Baishan is basically doing the exactly the same thing with Gǔzhēng though so they're under their own time pressure.

You have enough excess Qi to support one Imperial at a low level of power. Speaking of which I forgot to update that in the turn post.

You have 102 Qi this turn. 64 if you give the land as much as it can take.

Okay. Given all that, I'd suggest...
- Respond with a friendly diplomatic letter where we thank her for the offer, but decline. Give no indication that we even perceived the implied threat at all.
- Find some appropriate reason to boot the diplomat out (manufactured scandal, if that's what's appropriate).
- Li Mei goes imperial.
- Keep working on those pillars.

Li Mei is in no way ready to go Imperial. She could get there, but she's not even at Peak Monarch yet, so it's not imminent by any means (specifically, she's at 296/624 needed Spirit...she gains 10 Qi per action at most, plus maybe 5 per turn, letting her gain maybe 8 Spirit per turn at most). Like, she can hit Peak Monarch real soon, but Imperial looks like it's quite a ways away.

Li Rong could apparently go Imperial tomorrow, however.

Well that was before the cultivation change. He's a little further off now. Still if you asked him to focus on it, then he could probably pull it off in about 5 years.

I'm sorry. I'd gotten confused. I'd thought that we had two monarchs who were pretty much ready to go imperial, and I knew that Junjie wasn't one of them.

So... my recollection was that he'd basically stopped cultivating because he was on the verge of hitting imperial, and the local environment would have broken under his weight. If he wasn't on the verge after all....

well, 5 years is actually a pretty long time in this game, is all. I'm vaguely annoyed that we no longer have that tactical option available to us.

I suppose that's what I get for not engaging with the spreadsheets.

The old system was more forgiving of advancing before you were right on the breakthrough line. And by more forgiving I mean that it both allowed and it encouraged it by stacking cultivation bonuses. Which means that when the system changed Li Rong went from being able to advance immediately to being about 80% of the way. That was intentional as I was finding that it was actually a lot easier for NPCs to hit Monarch and Imperial than I had intended.

However I understand that people have been making plans based on the old information. So I will say that he can advance in two turns if you want him to focus on it.

Edit: Also note that the best way to get someone to really advance quickly is by getting some of a higher realm to train them. You can see this with Li Chao. That would normally not really be available for a monarch, but you do have the White Anteater hanging around. If you can convince him to train Li Mei it would significantly accelerate her progress.

Will we get our last action with him for a while at least on Turn 39 or 40? I'm hoping to do normal actions until his last turn where we'll indulge him to send him off.
