Is Randgriz Burning? (Valkyria Chronicles)

The compel I floated had Linn literally shouting in whatever the language the Empire would be using (@NephyrisX that's still pending by the way), I think I made up Low Imperial. It's like, not really a secret she's not from 'round here what with the accent and all. Who she was before is a completely different matter. @Arvin_Larn, that doesn't rise to the level of a Lore roll, he'd just know.
Oh, but he wouldn't know specifically that it's Imperial, I assume? Just foreign.

Foreign's a given...let's say beat an even +1 Lore to know it's an Imperial accent, little easier than it might be normally seeing as the Doerfein Quarter is an industrial area closeish to the border and there'd be some cross over traffic and whatnot.

Since you want to roll. :V

Hell yes I want to try and roll for it. Don't want to automatically assume that he knows it's Imperial, ergo, make it harder for Linn not to freak out. :D

EDIT: Nailed it. Not With Style though, regrettably.

Well then, I'll roll as well. Just because. :V ... how this works again? *check off wiki*

Edit: forgot the +2 modifier. So that's +3.

Can someone enlighten me the accent of an Imp? Since I play VC in JP voice, I really don't know if there's some kind of different accent in ENG ver.

I always believe they would have some kind of thick, East European/ Russian accent. That, or Prussian.

Not really noticeable even with the English voices. The only character in VC who I've noticed had an accent was Catherine, and that's because she's blatantly Not!Irish. :p

But yeah, I'd say Prussian would be a good one for someone like Linn who was a part of the Imperial aristocracy.

We both succeed, but not With Style.

Man, I feel sorry for Linn. If Alex and Leo open their mouths then she'll probably think that the whole Gallian Militia knows she's an ex-Imperial. :p

Say, do you only salute to officers, or do you salute to both officers and NCO? And do you salute only when you have headgear on (i.e. beret, caps, helmet) or salute with and without headgear? Because where I'm from, you only give salute when there's something on your head. Otherwise, you stand at attention. Also, we salute to both NCO (if he/she has a higher rank) and officers.

Asking this so I can know whether Francis (who is wearing a helmet) should salute to Linn, or not.
Yes, I'm writing. Slayers148 is writing something, people. The world is coming to an end.

Um... depends on nation. Your going to need Mina's ruling there. I don't have the answer.

Summoning @Mina

For me at least, you don't have to salute NCOs but you have to salute Commissioned Officers with headgear on. On duty, at the very least.

Oh, oh, can I get in on this? Can I Sharp Eyes her? :p
Sharp Eyes: Once per scene you may spend a Fate point and with a little observation, make a special Notice roll. For each shift on the result you may discover, or add an aspect to the environment, selecting one to receive a free invocation.
She's not the environment.

*Poof*

No salutes for NCOs, headgear doesn't matter. As long as you're both in uniform salute your officers. Now I am going to make food and crash.

*Vanish*

Same here.

Now that got me thinking. How much presence does a character need to have to count as part of the environment in this game? Because I'd say Vash the Stampede and Kurosaki Ichigo definitely count, but they're both quasi-demigod class.(In Vash's case, the Bernardelli Insurance Company literally classifies him as a natural disaster, so he's actually considered part of the environment in-series.)

Well it's either that or Steve Blum since playing through VC1 and 2 made me realize how many voices that guy plays in the series. It's enough that I wonder if the VCverse's version of Genghis Khan had his voice and it's a result of the Genghis Blum Effect. :p

Personally I've gone with the accent sounding like the region they're from (slavic from the north, Germanic/Greek/Hungarian/Balkan states from the south, etc). Prussian sounds about right for someone like Linn.

Though in some cases Imperial Common mashes the words together, like how they use German words, but with Slavic prefixes/suffixes (again, this is as I've thought of it. It's ultimately as Mina states. For she is mod, and mod is our god. Praise Mina)

Really? I didn't notice. :???:

Or just about any accent that denotes a regal/cultured bearing, if that was ever possible.

In any case, the important point here being that Leo knows that Linn is Imperial. Or knows Imperial, at the very least.

That's about what I've thought. Considering the vast territory covered by the Empire and it being an empire in the first place (lotta conquering has to go in before you get that badge), there's going to be a lot of cross pollination, but still many pockets of different primary languages and cultures.

I always imagined Jaeger and Fhiraldians sounding Hungarian, Gregor and Maxi as Prussians, Selvie a bit more Austrian. Doesn't particularly matter, since I'm generally not going to type dialects out in dialogue since that just gets messy, but there would be a standard Imperial language, and it's probably close enough in relation to Gallian that it sounds odd, but understandable.
