Infinite Horizons - The Futuristic Nationgame

Checking through the thread once again, it looks like no-one has claimed Denmark or its territories (Greenland, Faroe Islands), so instead of having 3/4ths of Scandinavia, I can have it all.

Sweet.

EDIT: And Iceland is unclaimed as well, very interesting.

I don't mind the USA "sitting out" WW3 so long it is portrayed reasonably and also not abused as a way of keeping power or status quo while everyone else went down in it.
Firebringer2077's kind of idea would work and MS-21H Hawke was adopting that.

Another thing you may consider is nuclear terrorism. With fusion technology being widespread the terrorists could've just kidnapped a few physicists in the field and could've gotten their hands on a bomb. Granted, it isn't like the governments won't predict this when these people go missing but that just adds to the panic. These simple yet still very effective pure thermonuclear nukes could get past most inspection methods at the time and you can guess the consequences.
You may play with this idea, too.

Granted, I plan people developed effective detection means by then. So smuggling in nukes is no longer "easy". Though you may find loopholes still.

Alright, just going to throw this up now, will work on the other stuff a bit later on.

General Description
A large nation in Northern Europe made up of the old Nordic/Scandinavian nations who united a few decades before WW3 broke out.

History
(Describe your nation/faction's history. How was it formed? What kind of major events happened to it? You can also talk about their participation during WW3, of course. Point of divergence from our original timeline is 2020. This is in order to distance some of the current politics from this game. Though in special cases I can allow earlier PoDs, too. I'm a pretty reasonable guy.)

Culture/Society
(This is where you can talk about how your people live, what are they like. It's also the place to talk about your government or leadership structure. Unique cultural traits or nation demographics could be also a good topic here.)

Economy/Industry
The economy of the various Scandinavian nations have always been quite powerful, and with the creation of the Union, this increased dramatically. Major exports being oil and gas, electricity, natural resources, machinery, fish, livestock and cars, while major imports include chemicals, military equipment, foodstuffs and electronics. The Industry of the Union is ever increasing, as most industrial jobs in the country are now held by robots and machines.

Military
The military forces of the various Scandinavian nations during World War 1 and 2 was pitifully inadequate compared to other nations of the same size and population, with the creation of the Union, however, this quickly changed. These changes proved invaluable during the Third World War, as Union and UN forces managed to hold back the Russian advance into Finland. Scandinavian forces are extremely skilled at fighting in cold/snowy environments, as most of the Union's army personnel are trained in the snowy tundra and ice fields of Greenland. The primary weapon of the Scandinavian armed forces is the Railgun, however other weapon types are in use, storage or development.

Moon: 2 Dome Cities (200,000 people per City)
General Description
A large nation in Northern Europe made up of the old Scandinavian nations who united just before WW3 broke out. Quite alot of the Union came out of WW3 intact, as much of the fighting in the area was within Finland and the eastern Swedish coast.
Culture/Society
(This is where you can talk about how your people live, what are they like. It's also the place to talk about your government or leadership structure. Unique cultural traits or nation demographics could be also a good topic here.)

Economy/Industry
(Well, this is a pretty big apple. You can talk about your faction's finances, economy, technological/industrial development and even what are their major trade exports/imports. Basically you talk about how developed and rich is your nation. Mention on your space development may be also important)

Military
(Yeah, this is an obligatory section, too. As the title says describe your military. How many soldiers you have? how good are they equipped? How many vehicles, air force, navy, space warships you have? I don't demand you to write down everything to the last detail. Just give us a good picture. Though I don't even mind if you write a whole novel on it so long you use spoiler tags to shorten for reading. It's up to you.)

Person of Importance
(This is a convenient list for characters who either have considerable power in your faction or you use them for point of view during the game. You can fill this out later as the game progresses.)

I hate to burst your bubble, but Scandinavia is incapable of feeding or housing 83 million people. Right now the Total population of Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Finland is approximately 29,900,000

Advances in technology and agriculture help that out alot. Most of Scandinavia today is just large tracts of unused land as the population is pretty heavily spread out, it isn't that big of a stretch to fit in more people.

My nation has also spent alot less than other countries in building space stations and colonies on other celestial bodies, leaving quite a bit for other things.

Damn it. I almost had my faction profile done, in which I claimed Greenland. Don't suppose we can work something out?

Ireland getting annexed pre-ww3 is not likely going to happen. Post WW3 it's possible, but only from a military standpoint.

I'll change that.

I hate the idea of major powers "not being involved" in WW3. That sounds like a huge "get out of jail free card", if you ask me.
On the other hand don't be so queazy about WW3's effects. It happened 50-60+ years ago depending on which country's point of view we take.
That's plenty of time to recover. Seriously, instead of looking at how terrible WW3 was to your faction try to distance yourself a bit and see it's a giant opportunity to develop your nation any way you like due to the aftermath.
WW3 wasn't the apocalypse. It was a big ugly war and by far the bloodiest but recovery happened relatively quick for most nations. I like if you write about how you rebuilt the nation but the distance of time means your population or industry are long past its effects.
Other issues like mentality or social taboos associated with WW3 may be more difficult to get over with, though.

But I repeat, dodging WW3 is usually the cheapest trick you can do and while I don't mind if some nations on Earth did it but don't treat this as a cheap way to avoid consequences. That annoys me to no end.

So... Brits can into WW III?

My comp is acting up so it's in for maintenance. Until it's back my activities will be restrained here.
Anyways, I am looking for a co-mod perhaps someone who can help manage the events.

Yeah but fourfold? Also a lot of that land isn't suitable for agriculture, a lot of it is mountains, and some of it is tundra.

Not from the looks of things. At least without using centrifugal force.

Well, technically Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, they are just given high autonomy.

And quite a bit of the US is extremely dry with lots of sand, except for the areas near water, of course. That hasn't stopped their over 1 Billion population.

Actually, its x3 and a little bit more, not x4.

My thought about the new version of American History:
@KnightofTempest can you give me your opinion?
1. Protracted War with varios terror groups in the late 20-teens and early 2020s goes bad as ISIS and other groups sponsor multiple attacks and such against the US Homeland.
2. 'Terror Wars' finally end around 2024 or so with a dirty bomb unleashed on Washington by an ISIS associated domestic terror group, causing the US Military to have to take the reigns.
3. The Military Administration's first act is to launch a Counter-Strike against the ISIS capital at the time, destroying it and decapitating ISIS.
4. America leaves the Middle East to the cluster-fuck it's now in as the Military restructures the US Government to something that can run better, and not allow something like the Washington Attack to happen again.
5. The Constitutional Meritocracy takes form over the next 10 years, with the Citizenship system forming as a result of the growing homeless/sub-poverty line population in the US.
6. America's involvement in WW3 starts with a Second/Third Korean War as the North launches a series of alpha strikes on the south. An American counter strike destroys the battery that would typically have leveled Seoul at this point.
7. as the war heats up, the Chinese make a play for Taiwan. One of the American Fleet elements moved to the east pacific in response to the Korean Conflict moves to interecept.
8. Chinese/American Conflict happens(I'm stuck on how to do the tempo, I do know NK would be pacified at some point), ending in a white peace after the Nukes are exchanged: with the Chinese Devestating America's Food production, and America destroying three gorges in response(killing a lot of people and sending one hell of a message)

How much should my population be? UN claims around 75 million (at medium fertility), but I have seen estimates more then double that, up to over 200 million.

Well, if you use geothermal energy to run thermo houses with special plants then you can kinda turn Greenland deserving its name. It might be even a site for exoplanet agriculture tests.
Anyways I'll look over the profiles again. I bet they changed a lot since I last read them. I didn't remember Hawke having a billion Americans, for example.

General Description
The United States is a nation that has power again, after recovering their pride and power in the wake of the early 21st Century and WW3. A new sense of Manifest Destiny has taken over the American psyche in recent years, with them feeling that their has to be an American presence in as much of the Solar System as possible, maybe even beyond. America has learned from the previos century though, and are thusly slow to extend Friendship to nations, and even slower to form alliances. America's main priority is it's people, willing to act a lot faster than the previos government on actors(state or Non-State) that threaten them or other American interests.

History
The first two decades of the 21st Century weren't kind to the United States, with conflicts in the Middle East bringing it low(Basicly OTL 2000-2016). The next two weren't much better, when the threat of ISIS finally brought the US to the Middle East again to fight anouther war. While the actual war went fairly well, ISIS made extensive use of 'homegrown' terrorist-proxies to strike at the US proper, causing damage to property and American Morale. Eventually, this was topped off by a Dirty Bomb Strike to Washington DC, which wiped out the highest levels of the US Government. In the aftermath, the lower level government officials started tearing the country apart between their varios political parties and the interests they represent. The US Military seized power before the split got anywhere near official, and deposed the former state and lower-level federal officials. The US Military started working towards a skill and competency based Meritocratic System, like what nominally governs a military. It was during this time that Canada closed off it's bourder, and stopped trade, making the bad situation ALOT worse for the United States. The Canandian 'Betrayal' caused a political situation to evolve into a financial one as Canadian Oil dried up and jobs supported by Canada's trade disappeared over night. .It took most of the 2030s for this new government system to form, along with the Social supports built around the system(depicted in Culture/Society). WW3 for the United States began with the reignition of the Korean War, North Korea launching strikes against South Korean targets to hopefully push an easy win. American and South Korean counter-strikes were equally ferocious. The war turned into a bloody stalemate, with America acting as a support for South Korea, not wanting to dedicate too much in case the steadily worsening global situation ignited elsewhere. These fears were confirmed when China made a move for Taiwan, using North Korea to soak up the attention of ASEAN(an Alliance that had been ailing sense the United States change in government) and the United States. America defended it's ally, getting into a series of the largest naval engagements sense WW2. Eventually other commitments started to call, threatening to overextend the United States Military. NATO and the EU were having trouble in Eastern Europe, and Israel was facing horrible odds from several muslim countries in the Middle East and North Eastern Africa. While both of these fronts gained American assistance(mostly in the form of Task Forces and Special Operations units), China kept America's attention. The War went back and forth, neither power gaining the advantage. Eventually China struck at Canada, for mysterios reasons, and Canada demonstrated a retaliatory capability. China backed down, and America was furios at Canada once again, this time for not doing something more solid and possibly saving American and Chinese lives by possibly ending the war, this sentiment increased with the actions on both sides following 'Chinese-American Desolation Day'. Eventually a series of Chinese nuclear strikes devastated the American 'Breadbasket', the American response destroyed Three Gourges and killed millions...like the Chinese strike would indirectly. After that day, remembered as a joint 'day of morning' by both nations(or any decendant nations in the case of China, if applicable), China and America settled for a white peace. North Korea didn't last much longer, appearently being 'held up' by china. America didn't suffer any more nuclear strikes for the rest of the war, as the Three Gorges strike was taken as an unstated message by the still new Government to the world. Eventually, the war ended, and the survivors came home to rebuild. during the Late 2040s and early 2050s, a massive famine struck in the aftermath of China's strike. America started importing food where it could, and suplimented that with hydroponics farms in all corners of the country. To pay for all of this, the Council of Administrators authorized the rebuilding of the Rust Belt, using high end robotics to make products for domestic and foreign markets. This all meant that the United States was weaker than before 2000, but it was starting to recover from the early 21st Century and Third World War(or the 2nd Pacific War as some call the American-China 'Segment'). As Space Exploration came back into it's own, America used this to add more food production by using some of it's colonies to produce food. Overall, the late 21st Century were relatively peacefull for the United States, continuing it's long recovery from political 'deadlock' and War.

Culture/Society

Under the meritocratic government, American CItizens were given a system where they were divided into Citizenship Tiers based on what they did and any service to the government. The Tier-System is a source of income for citizens as well as benefits like Healthcare, Insurance, and even home ownership. While private companies can operate in the United States, and are still a massive part of it's industry, the new Citizenship system has made life interesting for business owners, the United States subsidizes the Citizen's Income as their Citizen Tier Income, and gets paid directly by the Business for directing the best qualified applicant to them. Americans as a whole are quite happy with this system, with people that would have been previously homeless getting an apartment and other things he/she needs to live better. Americans are somewhat interventionalist, the lessons of the early 21st Century sticking out in there mind. Despite their military-derived political nature, the United States is actually universally friendly to most nations on earth, with the exception of Canada. The Betrayal of Canada In the 2020s, plus them not doing something more decisive in WW3(in light of the Mid-West Bombings), has made the hatred of Canada a cultural thing in the United States. Said Hate has died down a lot, from the frequent flag burnings in the 2020s and the resurgence of them in the late 2040s.

Economy/Industry
America's economy is in a good place, not as rich as it had been(relatively speaking, Inflation is still a thing), but more stable than the early 21st Century. America's main export good is actually manufactured items, from the 'Robo-Belt' in the mid united states, with electricity from massive solar farms across the Inner Solar System being a close second. America also sells a hefty supply of oil to lower tech countries that still use it. America's primary imports are rare materials not found in the colonial mining operations and food. America being as friendly as it is, it has no shortage of trade partners.

Military
The American Military is something very different from what it was even 50 years ago, with the Marines and former Airforce being expanded with the growing settlement of the solar system. The American Military maintains a high level of training, with citizenship tiers associated with the level of training and jobs given to those citizens who get the positions. There are also high numbers of drones in the varios branches of the military. The Best of all special operations branches from all over the Military go into American Delta Force.

American Astro-Navy:(Do we need to specify armament?)

1x Indominus Rex-Class Heat Pile Astro-Dreadnaught
2x Enterprise-Class Super Antimatter Astro-Carriers
3x Paladin-Class Heavy Heat Pile Astro-Cruisers
5x Warrior-Class Medium Antimatter Astro-Cruisers
7x Ranger-Class Light Antimatter Astro-Crusier
11x Yorktown-Class Antimatter Astro-Frigates
3x Iwo-Jima-Class Assault Antimatter Astro-Frigates

American Army. (all equipped with Railguns)
The American Army is one of the last semi-traditional forces still in the United States Military, though it has adjusted to the new times it is in. The US Army is highly mechanized, with SPAGs and SPAAGs supporting and defending the infantry. There are also a large number of Light/Medium/Heavy tanks that serve many perpouses, and work off eachother and the other mechanized vehicles. The Army also uses a high number of Power Armor suits for it's 'Shock Trooper Corps', with Drones supporting them. The Army has a number of UAVs and UGVs acting as Infantry Support and Light Attack. The American Army retains the Special Operations Arms of The Army Rangers(using mobility focused Power Armor) and Green Berets.

United States Aerospace Command(commands fighters both on ground/colonies and on the Astro-Navy)
The United States Aerospace Command is what became of the Airforce after space started to get settled, and fighters/bombers/gunships that can operate in space and atmo. The Aerospace Command operates a large number of Fighters: Interceptors, Aerospace Superiorirty, Fighter/Bomber, Stealth, and other such things. The USAC also controls bombers of all kinds, including anything from Light Attack Bombers to strategic bombers that carry nukes. A major part of the ACs responsibility is the Gunship/Transports that have replaced the Helicopters and Ospreys, many sizes depending on the jobs and who they transport.

United States Marine Forces
The Marine Forces have become a lot beefier as humanity has moved to space, with a large amount of them using Light Power Armor focused a mix of Mobility and protection, and a higher level of training in coparason to the rest of the US Military. The Marine Forces are heavier in the mechanization than the Army, using fast and multi-terrain APCs to transport on land. The Marines use faster Mortar Carriers than the Army's SPAGs, retaining the APCs multi-terrain ability. . The Marines also have faster and easier to deploy Tanks than the Army, though they retain stopping power he Marines do retain the Army's Anti-Air Defenses. There are a special unit of the Marines dedicated to defending Ships and Astro-Ships, and that also has training as an occupation force, the Peacekeeper Corps. The Marine Forces also have a special operations branch that include; N7 Marines and Force Recon Scout-Snipers.

It's not really feasible for ISIS to sneak assets into the US. The US's Visa system is way too stringent, for one thing immigrants have to be approved by the UN to even apply for a US Visa, for another, the system is so backlogged that any attempt to get a visa by ISIS is likely to not even reach the UN Approval Stage due to time limits on paperwork. It's one of the reasons that the Republicans are full of bullshit when they argue for stricter immigration policy, the US's current immigration policy is one of the strictest in the world. It would be hard for ISIS to pull a Paris on the US for those reasons alone.

Also I have already claimed the L3 Lagrange site it's been mine since page 1. Sorry. Pick a new one.

No more than 50 million, and that's being generous. IRL Projections have Scandinavian Populations going down by 2040 due to declining Birth Rates.
You sure? I looked around on a few sites, and I didn't see any declining birth rates. According to this, the populations of all Scandinavian countries would keep increasing well past 2040. Infact, it shows countries such as Russia, China and Germany losing population instead of the Scandinavian nations.

We use Population statistics: historical demography for populations in this subforum. The Projected Populations for Sweden and Finland for 2040 are down a million.

Who said anything about the 'assets' being native arabs, at least some of their assets could outright already have Visas and such. That and you have to consider that the boarder isn't watertight, if they paid off the right people, they could get assets in.
