Absolutely atrocious proportions aside, it looks like those might be corduroys. [/random observation]

You pull yourself away from the mirror, shaking your head. You can fix your hair when Sammy is taken care of.

As you walk back to his room, your gaze is drawn to your package. It's got one of those brightly-colored Amazon stickers on it, but that can't put you off of the wonder of it. You've been wanting one of these for a while, after all. It's:

[] a camelbak, one of the discontinued ones. It's got an entire day's worth of water in it for someone doing hard activity, and folds up nice afterward.
[x] a tactical tomahawk, complete with back sheath. You don't know what you'd do with this in every day life, but when you go camping you are going to be so prepared.
[] a 48-bar case of protein bars. They were out of stock for a long time, but now they are yours.

Later, you'll be excited about it.

You get back to Sammy's room, and Wormwood once again stays at the threshold. You frown, but don't click to him. He's mom's cat, after all, and he doesn't like to listen to you when he already doesn't want to do something.

Sammy doesn't wake fully, but you manage to coax him into swallowing the asprin, and then he drifts back off into a fitful sleep. You sigh, but that's all you can really do for him. If his fever doesn't break soon, you'll take him to the ER, but there's always the hope he'll get better without an expensive hospital bill.

Just when you're about to leave his side, you hear frenzied screaming outside, and freeze. Your military training kicks in, and your fingers itch for your sidearm. Unlucky for you, it's:

[] sitting in storage back at your old base. Your state doesn't allow personal weapons, even small ones.
[x] upstairs, locked up, and with the clip taken out. You get special permissions to have a sidearm as exmil (former military), but there are a lot of safety precautions that have to be taken.
[] upstairs in your side dresser table. Seems everyone has one, around here. Except Sammy, who never learned to use a firearm and therefore doesn't want one in his room.

You take a deep breath. It's probably some kids screwing around, like it usually is. You wait a few seconds, but the screaming gets, if anything, more intense. This isn't just kids being jerks to each other.

What do you do?

[] Call in a noise complaint. What the hell is wrong with your neighbors? (.7x)
[x] Call 911. You know that kind of screaming, and it's not the kind that will resolve itself cleanly.
[] Grab your tomahawk and head outside. [Can only be picked if your package is a tomahawk.]
[] Run upstairs for your sidearm, strap it on, and investigate. [Can only be picked if your state allows sidearms.] (1.1x)
[] Ignore it, and stay by Sammy's side. (.5x)

All will be revealed in time.

Edit: The reason why more options for people at the house would be worse is because they would all be sick with this thing, isn't it.

Anna would not have played well with anyone else in the house, except the cat(s). Mixing your father and your boyfriend would have gone poorly. Wormwood and Asphodel together would have unlocked a secret. Sammy is the least volatile choice, and would have done fine with anyone except Anna.

It will be harder to find ammo, sure, but the advantage of everyone and their grandmothers not having guns during... an extremely distressing time while we do cannot be denied
[X] Grab your tomahawk and head outside. [Can only be picked if your package is a tomahawk.]
This sounds rather... urgent. We might not have time for the cops, an we've been focusing on physical skills, anyway.

Wormwood and Asphodel together would have unlocked a secret
I told you that we needed our cat ninja legion.

It'll be easy to get our hands on a waterbottle, and we won't need a tomahawk as long as we keep finding ammo for our gun. Somehow. Let's raid a Walmart or something and hope for the best.

This way there won't be panicked civilians giving us friendly fire every damn where yet we still have a good long range weapon.

Because yes. Also, regretting that cat vote now, if it's going to be contrary for the rest of the quest.

I'm impressed by you guys thinking through the future consequences of firearm availability versus the immediate benefits of having a sidearm. I don't usually see that sort of logic in Quests.

+1 DP to mental skills.

Further rewards for good reasoning are possible, but won't be as easy as this one.

Logic? Us? No- our illogic is just so circular that you've been tricked into thinking it logical.

These feel like they give us the least amount of personal danger.

Guys, guys. Look, the Tomahawk, while fancy, is just a bladed weapon. While it won't be as nice, we can literally just take a cleaver from a kitchen and use that. The food is also nice, but canned food will last for a while.

Take the camelbak. During societal collapse having access to a large(ish) amount of clean water is a fucking godsend. Especially if you can easily carry it with you.

Rule of 3.

3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.

Going outside with the tomahawk and calling 911 are tied, so I'm rolling a die. 1 is tomahawk, 2 is calling 911.

You want a weapon by your side, but you take a deep breath, remembering the military-to-civilian class they made you take when you left. Most of the time, civilian issues can be solved with civilian means. You don't need a weapon, you just need to call the guys whose job it is to take care of civil disturbances.

Speaking of your time in the military, you were:

[] an officer. [++supplies in your house, +1 Leadership skill]
[x] a non-commissioned officer. [+supplies, +1 Leadership, +1 DP]
[] just another soldier. [+3 DP]

But this isn't your base, it's your neighborhood, and the police can handle this. The only problem is, 911 isn't picking up. You've never even heard of 911 ringing, let alone sixteen rings and counting. You're not someone who has had to call the emergency lines often, but they've always picked up immediately.

"We're sorry, but Emergency Services is currently busy mediating other crises in your area. Please stay on the line."

You stare at your phone in astonishment. Sorry, what? How many other people have to be in trouble for 911 to be busy?

Then more screaming starts from the house behind yours, and a chill goes down your spine. What the hell is going on out there?

"Wise," Sammy mumbles, reaching out to you. His cobalt blue eyes open halfway, glazed and feverish. "Hungry, Wise. So hungry..."

[x] get him something to eat. Something light; he's still sick.
[] take his hand, and tell him it's going to be alright.
[] ask him how he's feeling.
[] write-in.

NCO feels the best bet to survive here. Know enough about both soldiering and leadership.

[X] ask him how he's feeling.
Ahahaha, yeah, don't get close to the zombie would be.
