"Heh." A small chuckle escapes your throat as you adjust your bag strap absently. "Well, you certainly know how to make an ominous entrance."
His countenance stiffens barely perceptibly before it relaxes again as he strides towards you. "And you've grown to be a pretty ballsy brat. How have you been, Shinji?"
"Not too bad, all things considering." You shrug, then smile a bit. "I mean, my Mom's dead, and my Dad never even visited me or anything, but... it's nice to finally see you, I guess."
An odd expression flits across his face, obvious even behind the orange-tinted lenses covering his eyes, and his voice is... a little bit odd when he speaks next. "Curious, how closely you've grown to resemble your mother despite all that."
"..." ...and you're honestly not sure how to react to that. Even though you've placed obvious barbs in your words, it wasn't like you had actually ever... missed your real parents or anything. That's not to say that your aunt and uncle who raised you are the ones to have filled that gap; they're a pretty young couple, and they've always seemed more like... cousins, or something.
"...Well, come along then. I'll show you where you'll be staying for the next few years."
Just like that, the moment passes, and you follow beside him as he leads you inside. "You're not gonna give me any explanations, are you?"
"There are certain reasons why I can't tell you yet," he agrees. "But perhaps one day."
The two of you walk in, and head towards what are obviously the elevators. As you wait, you speak up again. "...You know, it's gonna be pretty weird calling you 'Dad'."

...Again!? Although it's a different feeling from the jolt at the train station, this... Just what is going on..?
And then the sound of a bell chimes through the air, interrupting your musings, and the elevator doors open. Your father walks in ahead of you, then looks over his shoulder. "Well, are you coming?"

Nah. Ranks use a weird formula.
The value gives you whatever the attribute is supposed to do, but ranks will determine the element's bonus damage, and other things that are hidden in the black box.
