Ridiculously Average Guy

You get in the car quietly, and she closes the door behind you before she enters the car as well. She fastens her seat belt, slides a pair of shades over her eyes, then puts the car into gear.

"Was your train ride okay?"

You hum. "It was pretty uneventful. Surprisingly quiet, actually."

"I know what you mean. I haven't actually been in this city very long myself, and I was surprised by how quiet it is, too."

"Oh?"

"Heh." She glances at you in the rear view mirror as the car pulls onto the highway. "You'd think the city would be more crowded after the countryside, right? Well, I mean... Unlike you, I actually transferred here from another city, and you wouldn't be wrong. It was far more crowded than... you know, this."

You look out the window. Not a soul in sight.

"It's like this in the heart of the city, too?"

"Oh, not quite so bad, and certainly more crowded than... Nishinomiya, was it?" You nod at her question, and she continues. "Yeah. But it'll definitely be less bustling than whatever you were expecting."

"Why is that, Katsuragi-san? Is it because of the whole underground thing? Or is it just that it's a new city and the population's still growing?"

"Well, partly both of those things." She smiles as she nods absently. "You know that most of the people in Tokyo-3 works for Nerv, right?"

"So I've heard." You shrug. "Why does that matter, though?"

"So what happens is that, in effect, Tokyo-3 becomes a bit like a privately-owned city. Very prosperous, especially by Post-Impact standards, but... pretty expensive to live in, and not very easy for those who are not involved with Nerv to get into."

"Oh."

"Yeah... Say, you mind if I put on some music, Ikari-kun?"

"Of course not. Please do."

The rest of the drive goes interspersed by small talk about your... hometown, and to the kind of old '90s rock your uncle always likes to listen to. Fifteen minutes later, the sky has darkened completely, and more buildings begin to appear along the road. None of them are taller than two-storeys high, and indeed you see cityfolk dotting the streets.

Truth be told, if you had to describe Tokyo-3, you would say that it's somewhat... suburban.

Soon you are driving along the crystal-clear waters of a wide river ("Artificial," Katsuragi-san tells you) and follow its gentle curve to pull over at another of the two-storey buildings that you've already labelled as characteristic to Tokyo-3.

"I'll probably see you again tomorrow," she says as you alight.

"Thanks for the ride. It was nice meeting you, Katsuragi-san."

"And you, Ikari-kun." She smiles over her shoulder as you shut the door, then drives off.

Settling your bag over your shoulder once again, you turn to the building just in time to catch the doors sliding open. A silhouette against the light, it's the unmistakeable form of your father.

"It's been a while, Shinji."

[x] Write-in : "Well, you certainly know how to make an ominous entrance."

So I had an initial moment of confusion because I had muddled myself up on which parent died.

[X] "Hi"

I know no better.

That happened to me, too. :V

Don't worry, Shinji doesn't even remember who the hell this guy is, and only knows his face through pictures.

Trololol inb4 "you look more handsome in person."

Amusing write-in, but it seems OOC.

[Q] "So I gather that you are my father..."

I'm under the impression we're outside our new apartment building house thing?

[X] Yeah... Well, I'm here now. How have you been?

Yes. :)

So far my favourite write-ins are Dio's and Joshie's. What kind of effect they'll have on the plot if they win is a secret, though.
I'm assuming personality and stats~

But damn can you imagine meeting your estranged father after years of nothing? BUT THERE ISN'T EVEN A ROBOT TO FORCE SHIT TO HAPPEN

YA'LL JUST STARING AT EACH OTHER AT THE DOOR TO AN APARTMENT COMPLEX

WHAT THE FUCK CAN YOU EVEN SAY

IN THIS MOMENT

All the fucking emotions compounded by hours on a try making your ass fall asleep, now you're here and he's there but you can't vocalize your anything at all because fuck what do you even say to this bullshit?

To be fair, Shinji has no idea what to feel. He doesn't even remember who his father is, let alone know what to feel about the man.

So... congrats, immersion?
