Looks like I'm a little late to the party, but let's see...

May rolled her eyes. "It's just a stupid bruise with ideas, I can handle it."

I love this phrasing. This is going to be my new mantra every time I stub my toe, smash my hand, or bang my knee against a wall from now on. Bruises with ideas, thinking they can control me! Know your place, body!

It mostly revolved around 'knowing when to run away', which May had scoffed at.

Brendan: "We almost died, May."
May: "Yeah, and I'll do it again if I want! You can't stop me!"

Though, she supposed that was when she was still a Ralts. There would be more to do now that she was a Kirlia. She couldn't recall a time when the Guard wasn't supposed to be at the gates, or the gardeners at the garden. Even her Grandpa spent a lot of time on drawing, preparing pigment, or making specialty food like jam.

That's right Astra, by the laws of evolution, you're an adult now! You get to do adult things! All of which are boring and time consuming for the most part, so you were smart to hit the road before then!

Astra just stared at him, speechless. Fruit. Pokeballs were made out of fruit.

Astra, mind awhirl: 'Can it be any fruit? What about vegetables? Pokeballs really do grow on trees? CAN I EAT A POKEBALL?!'

His hair, while still full and styled in a number of soft mounds

...okay, I gotta admit, I have no idea how to visualize hair with "mounds" in it. XD

"Um," Astra said, hesitating. Fired? Like, set on fire? Surely not; it must just be another weird human saying.

May, pocketing a lighter: "Tch, one of these days they'll mean it literally..."

The Champion. She was going to deliver a letter to the Champion. The Champion who was that Steven Stone guy. The one human she needed to defeat in order to save her home. Whom she had already been horrendously outclassed by. And she was just...going to go give him a letter. What kind of insane situation was this? And what was a letter, anyway!?

Good to see she has her priorities in order.

Oh dear. I was ever so hoping for a happy ending, but it seems that humanity is going to destroy Astra's village no matter what, even if it has to do so indirectly.

Oh no, you're right, Astra's been infected with capitalism! AHHHHH!!! :o

(So, this was secretly a villain origin story all along... we should have seen it coming.)

A bulky trenchcoat that makes Astra look like three Ralts standing on top of each other.

*Implying that isn't what she already is*

I'm not quite sure that's the right way to learn thunder punch.

I don't know about other Pokemon, but Mawile!me would have much preferred this method. :p

(Will attempt to work on the next chapter of Backslash after I finish the next chapter of ABG proper.)

I like the nice touch of "bluejay" as slang for cop – at least, assuming it's not just a real-world regionalism I wasn't aware of. Fits! All in blue, all Jennies.

Steven is not the type of man to whinge at his father about irritating small timers he randomly passes every day.
...I wasn't aware that small timers irritate the Champion every day. Poor Steven.

"Do that prank electric shock thing. But with your BARE FISTS!"

And then she evolves to Gardevoir, but still as quirky and innocent as ever.

I hereby dub this hairstyle the Whirl Islands. :V

With the power of the doom orb, Astra will twist reality into a pretzel, warping the economy to revolve around berries so that she can get filthy rich. Then, all the universe shall be berries. It's Cookie Clicker all over again.

Buddy, I´m sure you have played the game. You know what the road is like for a Pokemon Trainer.

"FIGHT ME SCRUB!!!"
"I am taking the GOD OF OCIANS for a walk because They keep clashing with the GOD OF TIME when I leave Them alone in my livingroom without enough exercise. Are you utterly certain that you wish to battle me?"
"I SAID FIGHT MEEEEEEE!!!!!"

There's a reason Steven flies everywhere (besides speed). And also a reason he took a leisurly stroll down what had looked to be an empty stretch of path.

It's hard to find a peaceful moment sometimes.

"That guy just had four Wurmples! Who does that!?"

But what if they're Lv. 100 Wurmples, ever think of that?

...Now I want to try to make a competitive Wurmple set, to go along with my full Dunsparce team.

Edit: ...Wurmple has a total of two remotely viable moves out of a total movepool of six.
String Shot and Bug Bite.
And it couldn't even learn Bug Bite until Platinum.

That sounds like the least intimidating thing ever. I would literally be more scared of Magicarp.

Seriously, on my second emerald Nutzlock run I encountered this weird guy with actually pretty fucking strong Magicarp. I mean they still died but taking actual damage and suddenly floundering to get an actual battle plan going was a weird experience.

Now I wonder if Astra will ever encounter that specific fisherman. Just imagine her suprise as the food fights back.

Well, Magikarp can learn a move with a base power above 60, and has a usable speed stat. But in all other stats except defense, Wurmple's stats are actually higher.

Hmmm... what would Astra wear?

....I can see May convincing her to wrap bandages around her head with a long skirt and go full Japanese Gangster girl, lol!

Seriously though, her best bet would likely be a long-sleeved dress with gloves and a hat.
Maybe a hex maniac outfit?

On another note, I was thinking how unfortunate it is that the Ralts line cannot learn Miracle Eye.

And thinking further, how unfortunate it is that Miracle Eye was introduced in Gen 4, meaning that Astra's village has no access to it at all.

But on the other hand, Future Sight affects Dark-types--though that might not be very helpful, given that Ralts and Kirlia learn it at levels where they would have already evolved, and that level of strength is rare, as we've seen.

DId that show up in story? It's certainly not true in the game, and a cursory search of the thread for it didn't turn something up, so now I'm wondering if I missed that mention.

In Emerald, Ralts learns Future Sight at level 36. In Gen III, as Quine says, it did typeless damage, although the damage calculation was made when the move was used, not when it hits. So if the enemy Pokemon got switched, it treated it as if it had the previous Pokemon's special defense.

Being typless, Future Sight also hit through Wonder Guard.

Rejected Astra Outfits / Ashlar Knells shill.
Minor update:

The 'scenes that will happen' for Hyphen 26 has been roughly outlined in about three paragraphs. The title will be 'Cover'.

Also been brainstorming Astra's new outfit. Me and Dex hashed out what I think is a good one on the discord (but what do I know I can't into fashion.), but here are two that didn't quite fit the critera of 'Literally has to cover the entire lower body I thought I went over this.'

I love them dearly but they don't really function as a good enough disguise. What with exposing her skirt flaps and green legs.

The current contender is mostly green, and sadly does not have a high-collared cloak thing. But maybe for Gardevoir...?

Anyway, before that happens I am currently working on the next Backslash. It's nearing 3k, and I already had most of that from when I split off 3 back then, but it's coming along decently I suppose. Hopefully you'll see it soon enough.

In other other news, my guy Dexexe1234, who draws all of my amazing pictures, has started a non-quest story!

The Ashlar Knells

It's an original, fully illustrated story about a girl who gets isekai'd into an armless brick golem in a sewer.

Give the man some love (and a comment). He very much deserves it.

Anyway, that's all. Have a good one!
