Hmm, I wonder if Astra will write off the other team's mons talking as Mal anthropomorphizing her companions, atleast at first. It's interesting, not as much as I'm interested in the main story though.

Anyway you're a really good writer, we shall appreciate whatever you make whenever it comes, I don't wanna rush you even though it's tempting

It was in the plan for later.

I will mention I'm actually kind of unenthused at the prospect of actually writing part 2 at the moment. Using other peoples characters is hard and taxing, much less four of them. Maybe later. Much later.

Yeah I'd be perfectly happy to see you just focus on Hyphen. XD

To those who celebrate, Merry Christmas.

To those who don't, hope you've had a lovely December.

Already started in on the next chapter thanks to some mutual nudging with Flair, so I'm ~600 in. Progress eternal, like a glacier. Which are all melting. Hm.

Like the inevitable entropy of the Moons gravitational orbit around the Earth?

Sure.

I don't have a present for you all; I spent all my gifts these last few Sundays. Delivery and aftermath was perhaps rocky, but the chapters stand regardless, and they're pretty damn good if I say so.

Further comments and questions are of course welcome, but for now we enter the long, dark hibernation. Words will be crafted. Maybe I'll have some art made on a whim. Music? Who even makes music on commission. I've looked into it but they don't reply to my messages...

In any case, someday we shall awaken from the extended slumber and the light will shine again. And at that time, we shall find...

Something new.

Anyhow, that's all. See you next time!

💚

...wait, no it's not. We're actually only like, as of this post, a dozen votes behind first place in Winterfest! Those sneaky ninjas snuck up on me! If you haven't yet, go vote! Every single one counts! Propaganda wouldn't go amiss either.

Ring in the new year with some gold, would you? For all of us. 💛

One of your silvers for the thing you are being voted on has a broken link on the first message. May want to fix that. Would a nice horrifying omake help the situation? A nice little tale involving one of the ralts at the beginning of the story that got a name? A companion piece to Candlestick Maker?

I have no idea what broken link you are talking about. What, do you mean in the old winterfest pages? I'm not fixing those. I dont think I even can.

And omakes are always welcome!

Normally I wouldn't prod everybody again like this, but with two hours left on the clock and the results so heated, I figured I'd give out one last notice.

The Winterfest Vote ends in Two hours.

I am trailing first place as of this writing by One Vote.

Give a lad a hand if you haven't, will you?

Done it ages ago but you're fading a bit by two votes.

It is slingshotting all over the dang place. I don't know how many people are aiming for a tie but I think it's more than one and they're actively playing silly buggers with the count.

That said, as of this edit they're up by three. :<

Edit2: UP BY 9!?!?

Edit 3: Maybe next year. Oh well.

Happy new year, everybody.

Dangit. That sucks; especially since in previous years I could at least say that I had read the other stories and they were deserving too :V

Having read Fallow Fields, I'll absolutely support it as also a deserving winner... but also can't deny that it's painful seeing Hyphen just barely take the Second Place Silver for the fourth year in a row. Seems like every year there's some strong new contender or another with a massive enough fanbase to overtake it, especially in this case where it most likely came down to both Dermonster and Zarinthel posting in their respective threads a few hours before the deadline going "yo vote here". I kind of figured it was over when both posts were made at a similar time, but the Fallow Fields one accrued more likes in a shorter period of time (meaning it probably has more active readers, and this whole thing is basically a popularity contest in the end).

Well, there's always next year! Hyphen will beat all those Self-Insert stories one of these days (have all the winners been Self-Inserts? The only other winner I remember right now is Hard Enough).

I mean, there's like five other categories which have definitely had non-SI winners (in fact I'm pretty sure Best Ongoing Fic is the only category that's had any SIs as winners at all), but you're right that three of four have been SIs now, since Hard Enough and Pound the Table are now joined by Fallow Fields.

Yeah, I was specifically talking Best Ongoing Fic. Tbh I haven't checked most of the other categories as much, it's usually this particular thread that leads me to the Best Ongoing Fic thread, but at least some of the categories like Quests seem less suited to Self-Inserts in the first place.

idk if I'd agree with that because the conduct of the Pound the Table author and fans was disgusting the year they won it to the point a ton of them actually got banned by mods for breaking forum rules. Additionally, that was the year Brockton's Celestial Forge was first in it which is a rather polarising fic and so a ton of people did a lot of bashing of it and voted for either everything else or ptt because it was the only contender just so it would lose which combined with the ptt fan's appalling conduct has actually pretty much completely soured the bcf fandom on the whole thing so only newer comers and something like 5 others actually check out winterfest which I think is a real shame.

first ive heard of this?

Basically a lot of them were in the anti bcf group and were doing a ton of stuff to make bcf lose on top of just voting for everything else and making some pretty horrible comments which the ptt author wasn't a direct part of but was obviously enjoying the chaos and stirring the pot. This included going onto the threads for ptt both here in sufficient velocity and the other sites it's on like spacebattles and discussing measures for ptt to win. Now firstly I would note that this is actually against spacebattles rules because one of them is to not discuss the affairs of other forums and sites.

However, they were also pushing for a lot of actions some were comparatively ok such as just bringing it to the awareness of people that the vote was going on but some of them were outright telling people how they should vote and being nasty to people who spoke up for bcf. They even went so far as to tell people who didn't have sv accounts to make them just to vote as they wanted and were setting up bots to make a ton of sv accounts to vote how they wanted.

By far the worst of it in my opinion tho is that they started making up and telling lies about bcf and it's author about how he was doing basically a lesser degree of what they were with informing people in bcf's threads and a ton of other stuff. Somewhat amusingly this was right after ptt had had a chapter where the si who is an lawyer because ptt's author is a lawyer chewed someone out and said something like they are an absolute failure as a lawyer because they'd blindly believed their client who was blatantly lying and any lawyer worth their salt wouldn't take people at their word.

The amusing part is these lies about lord (bcf's author) came to ptt's author's attention and in the winterfest voting thread them made a big declaration condemning lord and his actions along with being pretty insulting. Due to that making them aware of it some of the bcf fans looked into it and contacted lord to notify him of the horrible things being said about him which was actually the first he even learned of the voting due to having been extremely busy and stressed with personal stuff and a greatly increased workload at his job. In response to lord's statement in winterfest about him not having been previously aware of the voting ptt's author then made one of those really condescending fake apologies essentially saying well I was just repeating what I'd been told so it isn't my fault and I don't accept blame which by their own views in their own stories marks them as a lawyer not worth their salt.

As a result of all that the attitude to most people in the bcf fandom to winterfest as a whole because of all of that is basically urgh that thing again can we just not? So basically all of them avoid winterfests as a whole and don't even want to have anything to do with discussing them.

... That really doesn't sound like October Daye. Like, what?

... That really doesn't sound like October Daye. Like, what?

To be clear what October did as opposed to their readers was enjoy the chaos in the voting thread, stir the pot a bit and then believe the lies about lord leading to the false accusation and backhanded insincere apology. All the really bad stuff like making up the lies and the bots was the ptt fans and bcf haters as far as I'm aware October didn't do any of that but I can't actually say fully for certain because the spacebattles mods getting involved happened while I was asleep and when I checked it out when I woke up so can confirm they came in and punished people there were over 30 pages on the ptt spacebattles page involved so I didn't care enough to actually read them all and heard over a page and a half of comments had been deleted anyway.

I think I'd prefer to veer away from issues regarding other participants in past winterfests.

Any cool new comments about the actual fic? Seems more relevent to the central purpose of the thread.
