Hive Keeper (Worm/DungeonKeeper/WFTO Alt!Power)

I’ve had writers block for over a year on ch16. What solution would you all like to see?

I'd have to go back and double-check, but I'm pretty sure it's been stated as an outside entrance.
Ah, that would make sense. Perhaps a hatch (as I assume that is what it would be for an outside to basement entrance on a building) in the outside area on the primary map would be called for then, not really important but something to keep in mind for any future iterations.

She doesn't have a Prison, so they'll be killed by default instead of captured.

Just wait until she unlocks the torture chamber and the graveyard. She's gonna have a choice between killing invaders, locking them up and watching their flesh slough off and become skeletons, torturing them into obeying her, or watching their corpses rise up as vampires.

Come to think of it, she hasn't unlocked any of the options that really scream 'EVIL!' has she?

And she's going to get some looks once she starts spawning dark mistresses. Though to be fair, I always thought they were excellent fighters.

There's WFTO stuff in there too, so she will also have the option of transforming prisoners into golden statues that can then be mined by Imps for wealth and profit, as well as torturing prisoners to death to transform them into either Ghosts (DK1) or Spirits (WFTO). Prisoners can also be sacrificed to the dark gods through the Temple or Sanctum.

And that's not counting Dungeons 2\3 content, which also has various horrible things you can do to captured heroes.

I can't imagine Taylor actually using any of that stuff in her current state of mind though.

More immediately, the Gnarlings will be hilarious once they're trained up a bit, as at Level 5 they gain the 'Blade Spin' ability, which briefly turns them into a whirling fan of doom.

Then there are chunders. The smelly bastards are... unlikely to become a fan favourite on PHO. Either that, or will become its unofficial mascots. And may border on chemical weaponry.

Border on? Chunders are living, breathing chemical weapons. As are Bile Demons, their Dungeon Keeper equivalent. If mustard gas counts as a chemical weapon, then the poison gases wielded by Chunders and Bile Demons absolutely count as well; mustard gas takes hours to even develop symptoms, Chunder and Bile Demon gas can kill in seconds.

That's Nerve Agent levels of potency.

She seems to be converting a pre-existing building, didn't she got an idea she can dig and place her base underground?

I'm curious about where those stairs in the top-right corner of the basement go, I don't recall the previous chapter mentioning more stairs so are they standing in for something else?

As JustADude said, It's the exterior basement entrance/exit, up into the grass area behind the church. I apparently forgot to add the hatchway above. I actually tried a few things, but since I didn't see a proper object for it I moved on temporarily and apparently forgot to come back to it.

Probably could/should have at least drawn a label, now that I think about it. Oh well.

I don't think its occurred to her yet, or maybe she just has not had time to experiment? Taylor has only been Dungeon Mastering for a day.
Many of her skills - constructions options - came to her instinctively, so it would be plausible if she felt a need to build large underground labyrinth as her lair.

How many typos do you usually catch on the second read through? because as you reread something you've recently read or written your mind tends to skip over the details of what's there and starts to fill in the skipped details from what you expect to be there instead

A decent method is to read what you wrote backwards, last paragraph, then second last, etc. I find it disassociates the narrative flow, and lets you concentrate on the mistakes from grammar/spelling.

Another trick that actually works, is to change fonts and font sizes in your editor... or copy and paste it over to a different editor that uses different formatting styles. your mind will act like it's a whole new document that you're reading, rather than the same story you've been working on and staring at for the past few hours. you can catch a lot of errors that way too.

I happened to feel like playing WFTO for a bit and remembered that you wanted the intro cinematic, as my graphics card has inbuilt video capture, I recorded and uploaded it for you.

I wonder who that mysterious woman was at the start, HMMM...

In other WFTO related news, I just discovered that this is a thing.

Yes. That is a War For the Overworld Dating Sim.

Yep.

o_O

I've been playing it for the last ~15 minutes and... I have no idea what to say. This is the sort of thing that needs to be experienced personally, I think...

Yay! We finally got what we've been waiting for since Kung Fu Panda- people using a training room as a weapon! (Or at least, plans to do so).

The pig idea is good, and I hope she doesn't have to deal with capes that power-up from merging with earth. Brockton Bay has enough Flyer-movers to reduce the viability of that trap.

Also: nooooooo, Taylor! Don't sign up for power testing! Remember how much the PRT will be freaked out by rituals!

Argh, mistresses can't come soon enough. Or chunders, but those might be endearing to people.

You, sir, must have no sense of fashion. The Warlock looks awesome. Truly a terrible fate to be cursed with thine eyes. :)

True dat!

Look at all these people ribbing on the DK2 Warlock, DK1 Warlocks are much worse: Observe.

And of course there is the Cultist from War for the Overworld:

MAXIMUM EMO FROWN! GRRRR! SO ANGRY!

Seriously, the DK2 Warlock is fabulous and he knows it.

I thought they looked OK, at least. Plus, it's good to have a sword (or, for DK2 warlock, armor) for when magic just doesn't cut it. Leave the cultist alone! (Plus, they need to sacrifice things somehow.)

I'm still clueless on where the nagas come from, somehow, despite reading all of the comments since the last update. I assume that I forgot or missed something, but aaaaaaaaagh.

Nagas are the Horde 'basic caster' unit from Dungeons 2\3. They're mostly useful due to having a healing beam, though I forget if they have that naturally or if it's one of their upgraded forms.

Is there a wiki for that? Unfortunately the name is so generic I'm not finding any good images of what the units look like... :(

Why? You wanted to make the setting much brighter. and less grimdark.
Aegis didn't seem bothered by monster making power nearly enough.

Mistresses...oooh...looks at the site address...hmmm...let me think. Nope, we are still on wrong site for this.

Unfortunately, there isn't really. There are wikia pages for those two games, but they're rather sparse.

However... I'm builidng a codex that combines information from all 5 games that's getting posted in the Informationals Threadmarks. The Minion and Spells ones will be going up after the next chapter (I held off on them until Taylor got her first dungeon up).

Note that those will be primaliry game-info posts, *not* lists of what will / has appeared in the fic.

Minion: Naga

Oh, also as an addendum, if you want a picture of the naga in particular, it's the colorized final one below. Albeit sightly less cartoony since Taylor's versions look like 'real' creatures, so they're a lot scarier.

Another way to imagine them is a version of X-Com's Viper (first image) or Dungeons & Dragon's Yaun-ti Abominations (second image, in particular the top guy). Except green. They're all the same basic concept, really.

So what I've gathered, is expect a lot of people being crude and commenting about those hips on PHO.
Got it.
Dat ass makes more sense than dat bust, with an upright posture the Naga would need a good solid wedge of muscle anchored to something like a pelvis in order to move all that upper body mass around properly, which might conceivably possibly end up looking something like a big bubble butt (probably not). But reptiles lay eggs, and their young are born fully capable of eating their normal diet, why do the snake people have boobs?

Reptile boobs; one of the great mysteries of the anthropomorphs. Why do they have them? What purpose do they serve? Who thought this was a good idea? Questions for the ages...
