*sigh* All aboard the magic train to the exclusion of all else. Oh SV, never change.
Any urgency for checking on Lorena is kinda short-circuited by the unconscious telecognition Def keeps getting. Lorena needs to get some rest; we can hear about it all directly from her once she feels better.

Edit: I would provide a roll, but didn't figure out how in time.

I never meant for that to be an actual thing. I was just trying to connect the two scenes together and...
Ah, sadly, you didn't quite get a choice in the matter after posting the interludes; the players control Def, so anything the players know inevitably informs her actions to some degree. Calling that "unconscious telecognition" (or pre- or post-) is normally just a way of giving it a nod in the narrative. Sorry for giving you shame. =[

Mana Worker
You start reading the scroll, detailing all of the ins and outs of this higher level invocation spell. From what you can tell, these constructs lack the durability and fighting skills of the spell you already know. They were about as skilled as the average person. But they could follow commands more complex than "Kill" "Stay here" and "Guard this".

Granted, this was more focused on menial tasks like "Make sure this room is spotless" "Follow these blueprints and build this here" and "Bury this deep in the woods where no one will find it." And the constructs disappear after half an hour. You could increase the amount of time before they disappear with enough practice.

Several hours later, you've read through the scroll. As soon as you are finished, the edges of the scroll start to disappear, as if consumed by an invisible fire. Eventually, the entire scroll is gone, the ribbon it was bound in being the only evidence that it was ever there.

You then cast the spell. Complex magical runes appear on the floor, and the construct rises out of it. It's a faceless yellow humanoid. It's "skin" is smooth and slightly reflective. That, and the fact that it doesn't move make it looks more like a statue than anything that it meant to move.

"Um..." You start. You didn't think of what you'd have the construct do to test out if it works. You'd need more time to work out any construction projects.

"Hmm... Maybe something simple" You say to yourself. Your room does look messy. Half completed blueprints of failed machines are laid about, discarded clothing you haven't gotten around to cleaning, a copy of "The Misanthrope" that you've been halfway through reading for the past 7 months. You needed to clean this up anyway. You turn to the construct. "...clean this room up"

Immediately, the Mana Worker gets to work, stating to clean up the room.

*Bark**Bark**Bark**Bark**Bark**Bark**Bark**Bark**Bark*

You look up from your construct when your hear your dogs going crazy, barking at something. In a panic, you look out your upstairs window. Through the bars you had put on them, you can't see anyone. There isn't anyone near your door, and you can't see anyone inside, or outside of the fence. You keep scanning, just to try to find any movement. All the while, Reason and Incentive keep barking.

You go downstairs, crossbow clutched in hand and praying that no one has gotten inside already. You see Incentive clawing at the front door barking as if she'd itching to be let out to chase something. Reason seems to have given up and has gone back to lapping from his bowl of water. But he still keeps an eye on the door while he drinks.

[] Calm Inventive down. It may have just been a wild animal wandering around here. Maybe a passing traveler.
[] Let Reason and Incentive out of the house to chase down whoever was out there.
[] Send out my Mana Soldiers to patrol outside.
[] Calm Incentive down and try to see just how badly your door is scratched up.
[] Write in.

[X] Send out my Mana Soldiers to patrol outside.

We can't afford to be complacent.

In future, we might want to think about having a trap aimed at the front door zone that is operated by a lever inside, for this sort of situation.

Hey guys? No seriously, we need to take an action to explicitly move the dogs, unless all of you are okay with them getting shishkebabed as collateral on the next incursion.

Or we coul leave their resting place where it is, allowing them to perceive assailants, and move them upstairs with us when there is trouble.

I'm onboard with moving them up when we're not around, but when we are, there is little reason to.
