"HANDS OFF MY STUFF!" Fighting the Adventurer Menace

[X] Heal Self and try to heal Phil. Then, "I'm going back inside do drink, you coming?"
-[X] Drink only in moderation this time.

Healing is fine to reveal. it would have been trouble if we display extremely power healing like resurrecting the dead or something.

i was just thinking that a high level spell caster is dangerous enough to not be worth the effort to rob, and a drunken peasant isn't wealthy enough to be worth robbing, but the middle ground, is not tough enough to fight back but a resource worth exploiting.

I explained that badly. Maybe it wouldn't be bad to be a mob Doctor.

Why? it doesn't seem like it's a terribly rare thing in this setting?

I can see where he's coming from.

Casually using magic can draw attention, because magic-users tend to be better able to acquire wealth, and are probably notably richer on average than non-magic-users. If people see us suning magic, it may well give them the idea that we have shite worth stealing.

Probably not a huge deal, but might ratchet the heat rating up a tad if we are unlucky.

[X] Heal self and offer to heal phil. "I'm going to go inside and have one for the road. You coming?"
-[X] Have one for the road (Preferably something warm), then head home. You have work in the morning.

I think offering is an important thing here. Not just the willingness to heal him, but asking first.

Sorry for not seeing this earlier.

You're right that magic users tend to be richer than non magic users. Mainly because they tend to get better jobs that non-magic users just plain can't compete with.

Intelligent people, people who know how to keep and manage wealth and who know how to capitalize on opportunities also are better able learn how to do magic. Or are even able to read from a time at all.

Day 14
I start to glow a bright yellow as the healing magic washes over me. My the discoloration starts to fade, until my skin is back to it's normal tone. Three seconds from when I cast the spell, the light fades. Aside from a slight tingling, there isn't any evidence that I was ever injured.

Phil, for his part, just raises his eyebrow. "So, you're a mage now?" Phil asks.

"For about the last five minutes" You say. "If you want, there's a few classes that could teach you how to use magic"

"Eh, not all of us can understand that nonsense" Phil says. "Though, do you think you could take care of me?"

"Only if you buy the first round, Phil" You say, smiling.

"Done" As soon as Phil says that, you cast the spell. His own injuries start to heal. By the end of it, he looks just like he did before.

"Heh, maybe I should take up magic after all" Phil says as he feels his face. "Alright Def, I'm a man of my word. Let's get inside. First round's on me"

"It may be the only round for me" You say. "I'm just going to stay here until the rain lets up."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The rains didn't let up.

The rain was constant, to the point where you eventually just had to leave. As you get home, you see several large crates outside of your home. Crates containing lumber, nails, steel, adhesives, and anything else you'd need to build.

Looks like Domonic came through, and earlier than you thought. You pull the boxes inside before going inside for a good night's sleep.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day, you put on your cloak and soldier on, going against the wind and the rain to make it to the Learning Center. You swore that you'd make it to the shift and it would take diving intervention to stop you from going back on your word.

That, and you weren't going to give up a payday.

As you stumble through the door, you see Joseph huddled in his seat, soaking wet and shivering.

"H-h-h-h-h-hey D-d-d-d-de-f-f-f-f" He forces out as he raises his hand to wave. But he immediately withdraws his hand, huddling to try to preserve what little body heat he has.

"You holding up alright?" You ask.

"A-a-as long a-a-as I d-don't get Pneumonia, I-I'll be alright" Joseph says. "S-s-still, I finally got a b-b-bow I had my eyes on for a w-w-while, so t-things are l-looking up"

"You're an archer?" You ask.

"U-used to b-be a hunter" Joseph says. "N-n-not much n-need for it n-now, s-since I'm working now"

"Huh" You say. "Never thought that you even knew how to use a weapon. You've always been..."

"Short? Skinny? Not that strong?" Joseph asks.

"... Sorry, Joseph" You rubbing the back of your head.

Joseph just grins at you. "That I did, Def. That I did. So, since there's no one else here, how were your days off?"

"It was... they could have gone better..."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You look your classroom. You knew that not too many people would show up because of the rain, but there were only three people here. One of your regulars and two people who look like they just wanted to get out of the rain.

Still, you were here, they were here, may as well get started.

"Hello um... everyone. My name is Def Bludd, and welcome to my class on Handling Oppressive Vermin..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you leave, the rain is starting to abate. There is still a trickle, but it should stop shortly. Despite this, clouds are hanging over the sky, tinting everything in a dark gray.

City

[] Silver Shark Weapons Shop: Most of the weapons were sold to the store by adventurers, and most of them are bought by adventurers as well. Has a large, constantly changing stock.
[] Go to the Margery's General Store. It has little bit of everything. Some of it possibly stolen.
[] Go to the Howes Hardware: Store. It has all the parts you need to make some traps.
[] Go to the Sparking Mountain Magic Shop: From spellbooks, runes, to magical devices that anyone can use, this shop has it all.
[] The Hammer and Ales Tavern: You never know what, or who you'll find there. Also a good place to get wasted. Sometimes also has jobs from locals.
- [] Drink.

How long do we have to hold this timeslot until we can change it without looking like a flake?

The reason why so few people were at your class this morning was because of the huge fuck-off rainstorm that was going on. While it gave many of the city's inhabitants a well needed shower, it also flooded several streets, so most people stayed home.

Yeah, I know there were extenuating circumstances, but I was also speaking in general. Numbers have been down overall since the slot was picked, after all.

Since it was explicitly stated that no one was looking and our long time friend that helped us get a paying job and now has revealed their usefulness in dealing with oppressive vermin as well was visibly ill why didn't we spend the minute long casting time for a cure light wounds on him? It didn't even occur to our character to help someone that put their ass on the line to help us get where we are now?

Let me be clear since you can't see my body language or hear my voice. I am not mad at you for "bad writing". The opposite is true, you are kicking ass in this quest. I am not demanding a retcon or roll back either.

But can we pretty please get the archer to (platonically) move in with us to shoot through those murder holes we designed? Free rent and healing along with mutual defense is a great deal and he already proved loyalty getting us our job. There is no reason at all not to get a bonus minion on the cheap.

I'd rather nurse the adventurer that took the contract we put out back to health and...see what happens.

Def's spell doesn't cure sickness, only bruises, cuts, and light trauma. Unfortunately, that means that it wouldn't do any good here.

Well, for now, he is comfortable where he is.

But, well, I had planned an event in a few in-game days, though I'm still tweaking it.
