Halkegenia Online Thread 22 - Kill Sheffield Vol. 2

I think you guys are forgetting something, the majority of the Fae are Japanese not English.

So the nouns and verbs they use to refer to themselves really should reflect that.

So the suggestion list thus far is:
  • Beta
  • Test
  • Harem
  • Crusade
  • Copse
  • Chrysalis
Am I forgetting anything?

While we're on the subject, do we any for pixies?

If not,

I nominate An Eevee of Pixies..............*Sounds of a shotgun being cocked in the background*

or Swarm, a Swarm of Pixies is good too.

Chrysalis is greek so there would be zero problems for the french with that one
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/chrysalis

Copse is also an english word from 1578 so again no issue

Test is actually FRENCH from 1350-1400

So yeah I doubt there is any issue with the translation since its already been said the meaning of the word is expressed through it.

So whats the general combat archetype for each Fae race from what I can tell
Sylphs: Fragile Speedsters
Undine: Healer/White Mage
Imps: Assassins(Stealth killing)
Spriggans: Thieve/Explorers (Lockpickers and what not)
but I'm not sure what the Salamanders and Lepurchans are

Spriggans are more like Trap Monkeys or Utility PC. Standard rogue format of typical mmos

Salamanders are your Warriors, they can handle the aggro and dishout pain. Gnomes are Tanks, Leprechuan is a ranged DPS class with forging specialties (muskets and cannons) Cait Sydhe are cavalry, Nymphs are your unspecilized jack of all trades, and Mauves/ALFs are GM classes or Death Knight-like classes for ALO

I actually dont think ANY species has a set role.

Some have bonuses that lend well to the other but since this is a PVP game with the divide along racial lines having certain species having a clear advantage over the others like Spriggians being DPS or Salamanders or Gnomes being tanks breaks the game.

keep in mind the Magic while having Racial bonuses is NOT race locked. A salamander uses Earth Magic in Vol 3.

So with that mindset certain races might get a bonus for a set-up like gnomes are able to equip and use heavy equipment so they have a leg up on doing the tank role but not an all out Gnomes are Tanks because then certain races will get shafted.

So a more balanced system with a stand out in One ability like higher weight load or bonus to Thief skills for races is the more likely but not anything that would lock out a player from playing as they choose.

This issue of Morgiana taking on more of her Faction Leader duties does beg the question of just what a city of hidden ruins like Musica is meant to feature production wise, and what kind of economy it can create in order to sustain itself.
If you mean, "what sort of product they could sell to other factions as an export", I admit that's a stumper.

But an internal economy wouldn't be a mystery at all. Spriggans can take up crafting skills like anyone else and sell their wares among each other just fine. Though probably fewer players than usual for a faction, given that the Leprechaun faction is virtually next door.

The bigger mystery is how the Leprechaun economy is supposed to work if everyone is supposed to be a blacksmith. Even taking into account the possibility of specializing in either swords or armor, swordsmiths have no reason to conduct business with other swordsmiths -- if you want a better sword than you can make, the answer is to get better at making swords. Armorers run into a similar issue.

And now we know why Kofu moved to Arrun.

Because there she is a big fish while in the Leprechaun Capital she was an average fish.

I imagine there are little specialities that each smith has. Like one specializes in bows while another specializes in leather belts. Currently they are on wartime work hours and presumely word loads so there is that. I imagine that after the war they are going to split off and do other things.

Considering that ALO had a "tundra" area, here's a mob that some evil Dev might have included for the Tau Tona/Goibniu area.

<The Miasma of Maddening> Not an elemental or poison effect, as the name might lead one to believe, no, this mob was much more insidious. Based on the insect know generally as the Black Fly, its spawning grounds were linked to many of the bogs and watercourses to be found in the "Tundra Area", where it managed to drive many a Player to distraction. The mob manifested as a cloud of stinging, buzzing insects that obscured sight, sound, and tended to find its way into ears, eyes, mouth, nose at every opportunity (helmets were only of limited help), and inflicted a DOT effect. Wind attacks often only scattered the swarm momentarily, poison and fire attacks were the preferred method of dealing with them. They often appeared in quest areas where the use of flashy, large spells would draw unwanted attention, or warn off a quest target/goal, leaving the Player with the choice of trying to ignore it (difficult), or at least gaining the satisfaction of destroying the pestilent cloud, and starting over from scratch.

The spawning "behavior" was linked to ALO's seasons, with peak appearances during "early summer", and dwindling as "winter" approached, when they disappeared entirely.

Since Transition, the warmer temperatures the former "Tundra Area" is experiencing (not too mention seasons that are no longer compressed in time), is causing some worry how the populations of this pest will react...

And now we know why Kofu moved to Arrun.

When did she do that?

Kofu is actually pretty big among the Leprechauns. She's obsessive to the point of digesting all of the knowledge the transition has granted her and pushing her affinities to the limits. By the time sword's are again fully relegated as traditional weapons and family heirlooms, she'll have established herself, and by extension Liz as two of the finest metallurgists among the Fae.

They can still hire themselves out as mercenaries or private guards for merchants and the like, and I'd bet their treasure hunting skills could have some use in finding items from other dimensions or gathering up fae artifacts for safekeeping. For a bounty, of course.

I'm sure that there are racial bonuses that make crafting more rewarding for the Leprachauns? Not everyone wants to be a jack of all trades. The point of ALO would not be to make every race equal in all activities, but to at least not close any one path.

Not the best idea, just doing a single thing day in and day out would likely bore a crafter to tears.

Appraisers, machinists, jewellers, watchmakers, structural engineers... how can you possibly think that they are limited to blacksmithing???
EDIT: Derp.

No clue, but she is a leprechaun living in Arrun so she had to move there some time.

And what about the hundreds of other Leprechauns that would have equal levels of transition granted knowledge?

Or those that had modern metallurgist knowledge to mix with what they received in the transition?
