Halkegenia Online Thread 22 - Kill Sheffield Vol. 2

Thanks for the link. And yes - pics are nice. Willing to bet TH has a pic of some sort in his 'inspiration' folder but searching via phone sucks.

How so? I can't really tell a difference beyond some minor details.

And the only reason I moved was Halko since that was all I followed on SB. If it moves back I will follow. What happened with SB anyway?
For one thing, I can't post any pictures or videos. I'm always on mobile. Why? Simple.

Parental judgement, that's why.

Original posting here.

Pod of Undine
(in reference of a 'pod of dolphins', and is near universally approved of by the Undines)

Murder of Spriggans
(obvious crow reference is obvious, was overwhelmingly supported by Morgiana, even if it doesn't really suit them thematically)

Flight of Slyphs
('natch, was something of a one-over by Mortimer to Sakuya who was holding out for 'drift' (as in 'drift of swans') due to liking the term more then the generic 'flight'. She got overruled.)

Lyre of Puca
(in, partial, reference to the plural form of lyrebirds. Unanimously voted in by the Puca)

Cloud of Imps
(in reference to a 'cloud of bats', and while humorously put forward, they've gleefully taken to it, especially in sports & airborne military tactics)

Business of Gnomes
(as in a reference to a 'business of ferrets', business dealings, and how they're very comfortable below ground)

Pounce of Cait Sith/Destruction of Cait Sith
(technically 'pounce', in reference to a 'pounce of cats', although Dragoon Knights almost without exception prefer the term used for wild cats. 'Streak' is also popular, referencing a 'Streak of Tigers')

Band of Salamanders
(Morgiana, with very vocal support from Alicia Rue & Sakuya - who got the joke (only other one was Mortimer, who was silenced overruled...via a kick to the shin), put it forward, without mentioning it originally referred to a 'band of gorillas')

Cast of Leprechauns
(in reference to a 'cast of hawks', a partial reference to their 'hawkish' attitude involving their wares & prices. Was immediately copyrighted by them. Go figure)

Watch of Maeves
(in reference to a 'watch of nightingales'. Put forward personally by Kirito, in direct reference to the 'inspiring' classical portrayal of nightingales in the arts & various mythologies. Asuna was blushing furiously for the rest of the meeting)

Tome of Cardinal
(new term specifically requested by Bishop/Cardinal for all it's/her terminal bodies. Never proven, it is near unanimous by the Fae that it was Bishop who came up with the term, although she denies it. Cardinal, rather then Cardinals, is the proper term)

There's no term for the Nymphs.

On topic: Is there a picture anywhere of Octavia's current form by the way? The image I'm getting is that she's a pixie version of the Nyriads.

Not really a particular image, but the way I've been imagining her is similar in size to a Pixie, but with long, flowing fins in place of arms and legs, with a sort of tough membrane forming a 'gown' of her body which she can also undulate for propulsion.

Out of the water she can survive just fine as long as she can keep her skin moist, but she isn't very nimble, in fact, her posture would be somewhat like a seal, propping herself up on her forward fins while her tail fins trail like a little dress train.

So about as weirdly cute as the Abyssal Queen was surreal and terrifying.

In fact, I've been wondering if since Octavia's Abyssal form was a sort of living organism rather than just an illusion if it wasn't closer to a giant organic mecha with the real Octavia buried someplace deep inside. In which case, like I've said earlier, Octavia has no right to be complain if, as a Queen, she was stripped of her Royal Vestments when she was made a prisoner. It shouldn't matter if those vestments are a living mermaid goddess body, they're gonna get stripped.

Edit : She's going to be like a kid in a candy store when she gets that crown back, isn't she?

Yes, yes she is...

Not that it might be a bad thing. If she has managed to connect with Asuna, she'll be protective of her family... and gods help anyone who hurts that family!

Laughing Coffin were a buncha psychos. The most recent episode of SAO season 2 shows the operation to take down Laughing Coffin. When a Laughing Coffin member's HP hit the red zone, the guys fighting them would hesitate, demand surrender. Said LC member does not hesitate and goes for the kill. A lot of LC members chose to fight to the death and take as many with them as they could instead of surrendering.
It really makes me wonder what's up with Kuro.

When is the next Girls Ops chapter?

True.

As a more immediate mental exercise, what the hell would the Lake Spirit think of Solomon?

Would probaly find "him" quite strange, but the way Solomon is a "Djinn conglomerate", might have parallels with the way a simple water spirit might become something like the Ragdorian Spirit.

Solomon's ability to manipulate water might intrigue "her".

More like Oh, bi the way! Ranger! Tiff, here's the rest of me! :p

Or more like,

Tiff finds one of the Shiori, and takes her back to her room. "Shiori what were you doing out of bed, you know you shouldn't be about yet, and I thought I hid away that set of clothing. Now get some rest." Shoves her inside and closes the door without looking.

Turning around sees another Shiori and sighs. "Shiori, what have I told you about sneaking out of bed?

Depends how long it's gone for and what your coin flip decided on.

If they give it back at the end of the side story she will probably just do a back flip and be in general happy about things.

If they give it back months down the line after keeping her prisoner in a fish bowl she will probably give everybody the middle finger.

That's if she isn't rescued first by a Naiad/Dragon strike force.

This isn't a side-story, this is TH's main work.

Why, exactly would the Naiads try to rescue her? How would they actually know where she is? How would they survive on land, which they are manifestly not designed for, long enough to rescue her? Where are the dragons that you want involved coming from?

You are also completely disregarding Octavia's current characterization and how the Kirigayas are behaving in HalO, let alone how the native Halkegenians behave.

Octavia is, effectively, a child who was abandoned by the mother / elder sister figure she loved. She's going to have the fact that Titania != Asuna rubbed in her face. Then she's going to have a little breakdown, I expect, before re-starting her life in a more positive direction for her. (Note this doesn't necessarily mean more positive for the Fae or for Tristain.)

The Kirigayas are unlikely to be cruel or insulting. They aren't perfect, they may give offense unintentionally, but they will not stand by and let Octavia be harmed or insulted without a very, very good reason. It is not in their nature.

Next up we have Wales and Monmon. They now have a rough idea of how powerful Octavia can be. If they realize that it would seriously damage the Tristanian / Fae relationship (and it very well might) they won't be pushing for Octavia to be harmed. Kept somewhere secure? Certainly - but not harmed.

Once they've made that decision, dealing with a world that has Spirits in it, they would have to be surgically attached to an Idiot Ball or a Conflict Ball to do anything other than treat Octavia politely. (See: Evil Overlord List, creatures controlled by magic against their will.) If Octavia ever gets her power back and hates them.. well, the outcome is immediately apparent to anyone who chooses to devote even minimal thought to it.

Net result - Octavia is likely to be well-treated.

Side Story not Omake.

Because Octavia is the only thing keeping the Naiads from being murdered by the people hunting them. And she is currently the only thing that can protect them in that manner given half the lake is Gallian territory.

Magic/Whatever way the Author would decide on.

Magic/Whatever way the Author would decide on.

And anywhere they want given they are shown to be loyal to Octavia.

This takes place during the time that Shiori is recovering so it's not really a side story.

Vaer, this isn't listed in TH's own index as a side story. Thus it is not a side story.

You need evidence to back this up.

We don't know what is hunting them post-transition. (The Fae could just as easily help protect the Naiads, thus no need for Octavia.)

There's no indication (yet) that the Naiads have magic that would let them move around on land.

There's no indication (yet) that the Naiads have magic that would let them find anyone or anything. Frankly, there's no indication in the source (SAO) material that indicates the ALO magic system has anything like this except the Nav Pixies, who function as assistants / mini-map tools.

The dragons helped out once. We have no idea what caused them to do that. Was it loyalty? Was it magic compelling them to do so? Was it fear of Octavia eating them if they didn't? (In which case they won't want Octavia back and / or they might want to kill her while they can .. )

Please don't just give me a flippant response without either logic, history in-story, or an example from elsewhere that your points are even possible.

Citation needed on something you just admitted to being true? :wtf:

Also the Fae won't always be able to help them as long as they remain in the lake. The majority of said Lake is Gallian territory, meaning that if the hunters attack from there. The Fae can't respond without violating the borders for something that in Gallia is not a crime.

There's no indication (yet) that the Naiads have magic that would let them move around on land.

You do remember we saw them moving about on land? o_O

Except for the entire school of <Searching> and <Tracking> magic the Fae have. :p

TH said it was loyalty and not magical coercion a number of pages back.
