Gundam Crucible - [An AU Universal Century Quest]

Further evidence that MacDaniels is probably a front for the Illuminati. Must investigate further.

[X] Oh, MacDaniels sent Londo Bell some provisions! Get her a "Sizable Mac".

Cosmo Babylonia Intensifies

Look, it'll be fine. We'll know things are worrisome if Cybele starts looking into mask catalogues and acquires an interest in buzzsaws.
we don't have to worry about that. with Haman as her mentor she'll be donning headgear which flaunts her features rather than cover them up. :V

Though we should probably go for a different color instead? Maybe one made out of obsidian or carbon steel? 🤔

I think we need either the huge amount of food so we can share some with Eris when she is found, or a parfait because it's something space nobility would eat, and we need to act more space noble like. the Macdaniels conspiracy has had it's victory. time for a different gimmick, at least for the next update.

No, of course not. Now, some sort of dedicated autonomous anti-personnel drone, on the other hand…
A Totally Normal Maskless Person from the Buch Concern whose wife has not left him yet: "I know your mentor is attached to Colony Drops, but have you considered... Autonomous Colony Drops that target individuals?"

Haman: "This man is a genius. We should implement this plan, Cybele."

Cybele : "No! I'm not just dropping several billion tons of working or salvageable colony on earth to go rust. Colonies are a symbol of life beyond earth. of the struggle and hardship that proves we've earned the right to live in space. I could never support discarding them to be dragged down and ruined by gravity. Colonial Spacenoids, now and forever...but I could use something to state my commitment to spacenoid independence, something like a cape maybe?"

Haman: MacDaniels owns those colonies.

Cybele: Oh, in that case I'll deorbit them now.

An order of Spacenoids knights. Of new Nobility among the stars. Of newtype revolutionaries who aren't Idealists.
No. No Kings since we've seen what horrors the Zabi's brought, no Gods like Sirocco and no Masters like the Titans and Federation.

Take it as a commentary on the lack of standardized learning material about newtype abilities and leadership made available to the talented rookie pilots your sending on war critical missions where they face threats beyond the norm. You put Cybele in situations that tested the limits of her abilities and required critical thinking and decision making with little in the way of mentoring on how to handle these.
To be fair Riddhe was trying to be a mentor. It wasn't his fault we liked committing war crimes on whatever poor conscript got put into a Salamis Class

not remotely what I said or what Cybele aspires to or Haman would aim for? this would be more an order of pilot knights trying to put an end to the cyber newtype experimentation and earth federation newtype conscription, based on the thing cybele believes in. more Buch Concern than Zabi but more about a responsibility to act than ruling over people.

Riddhe's attempt at mentorship can be summed up as "Took Cybele aside one time for a morality lesson." overall, that's most of the mentoring Cybele has received. talks about team work, and morality, and status quo being awful but what can any of them do about it?

meanwhile Cybele is in a war, with morality and scruples lacking leaders on the other side happy to throw brutally enhanced enemies at her as well as situations hard to avoid going sideways. situations that undermined there mentoring with the reality of her life as an ace pilot and the lack of room to always make the moral choice and get her friends through the battles alive.

Pheonix's Cry was, Ironically, the mission where Cybele engaged in the least amount of war crimes since becoming a pilot. With the exception of the crime of mobile suits rodeo against a traumatized newtype, she didn't commit a single one. her reward for this is ⅔ of their teams mobile suits destroyed, Lorelei hospitalized, and abducted at gunpoint while Macdaniels taunts her. not good from a positive reinforcement perspective.

Cybele needed someone full-time and willing to teach her skills piloting related and not, and Haman was up for the job. she could maybe do better, but she could also do a lot worse.

I want Cybele to suffer, she's a jackass right now.

telling someone they shouldn't feel guilty about something never works and at least this way Rita has a productive outlet for her guilt rather than going back to hong kong and never quite making peace with what she did. she could certainly deliver it more gently but she is only months out from the destruction of her own Colony and just turned away from the body of a girl she took personal responsibility for but couldn't look out for because the plan to save Rita required her to focus on a different part of the battlefield entirely.

She very clearly doesn't care about Rita, she's treating her like a tool.

Never said she did. Rita is a stranger and until very recently a dangerous opponent who came close to killing her thrice over. Rita is an unfortunate soul with a past Cybele can certainly sympathize with, but that doesn't mean she has any inherent closeness to Rita. That will have to develop over time, as Bleachy's writing is a bit more realistic than some of the single meeting bonded for life events of a lot of UC characters.

Your being a tad hasty in your decision to label Cybele as just planning to use Rita when we are a single conversation into their acquaintanceship that might become a friendship. Keep in mind that their both traumatized newtypes, not just Rita. Cybele is as much projecting some of her own adquacy in the face of others sacrifice issues onto Rita. Not exactly fair but the two do have some similarities at a stretch.

Saying she is treating her like a tool is a bit much. She's treating her like someone with a lot of guilt weighing on them and in need of a way to make it right. She's treating Rita like she treats herself at times and guiding her to the same solution she choose to deal with her guilt over Kaylen. It's not pretty or kind, but she didn't demean or dehumanize Rita in the process, as your average UC antagonist, minor or major, might.

Overall, this could have gotten a lot uglier and Cybele is acting so because her "La Noblesse Oblige" ideology compels her to try and salvage something from this situation that lets her justify the cost rather than because she sees Rita as a tool or someone to use. It's far from the best of circumstances but Cybele is at least not acting out of malice or indifference.

I'll lock votes in about 10-11 hours, but I think I can see where this is going.

Towards a surprise upset tie where Cybele shares a big tray of food with a newly arrived Eris only for Theo to show up holding a MacDaniels MacRib? :V
