Probably for the extra aid he would ve assigned to asist us on our expedition. By now it is a proved fact that the shadowlands wants us dead.
This is true, so a balance is needed. Also, another trait in the water ring is Strength, which is what I really wanted to focus on when refering to the ring itself.

Huh. For a plot to let them insert free-agents across the empire, not bad.
Of course, if we want to be politically savvy, it would be best to set this up as some sort of joint thing with the Witch-hunters. Some might consider it unsavory, but the rep the Crab have for not being all that political will just strengthen their alibi of looking for tainted.

If we want him, I suspect that the scorpion will be only too happy to fob him off on us. He doesn't really seem to fit in where he is, and there are a number of ways he could be of service to the clan while in our company. It's just... there are implications to having a scorpion as one of our number.
Personally, I don't see how he brings us anything we don't already have, unless he's part of the Scorpion actually throwing their weight behind us as a clan (in which case he's worth it as Scorpion Liason, though a courtier or shugenja would likely be moreso). This isn't anything against him as a person. He's stood beside us in mortal battle against the forces of Jikogu, and taken injury (broken fingers totally count) to preserve us from the weapons of our enemies, so I figure as far as Sousuke is concerned, he's exibit A for "Huh. Maybe the Scorpion aren't so bad after all". It's jsut that we already have ourselves, Shasa, and Shirou (mostly) as Bushi - we could use some distribution.
As for whether he *will* be coming along? That's going to depend on Yasuki-sama, which in turn is going to depend on how the remaining discussion between him and the honorable Diamyo turns out.
...and there's something that only just now hit me.

- [x] Notice with some pride as you prepare for sleep, that the actions of you and your friends over the past few days has, in fact, contributed materially (if indirectly) to the overall readiness of your clan, and Rokugan as a whole to the coming war - both in rooting out this piece of corruption and in gaining, at least to some degree, the not-insignificant support of the Bayushi Diamyo.
- [x] Get blindsided by the realization that this sort of thing was almost certainly Yasuki Goro's plan all along - and that he's likely to wish to repeat it in the other major cities you visit.
- [x] Head to bed anyway. Now that you understand his plans a bit better, you can look for more ways to help them (and discuss the same with Shasa) but that does not change the fact that you're tired and wounded. For now, the most useful thing you can do is sleep.

Well for one, everything we do on our vitally important diplomatic mission would end up getting back to the Scorpion fairly quickly. And I would imagine that they could find some way to screw us over with that info if they really wanted to.

What we could really use for our party is a Shugenja of some sort, but I suppose we might acquire one of those in Unicorn lands. An Iuchi is pretty much the best thing to have with you on a long overland journey.

I'd be against Mataru for now, simply because there's little gain in having his company for the diplomatic mission to the dragon. Maybe having him with us until we leave Scorpion lands, mostly as a "hey, the scorpion are actually in favor of this guys, don't screw them over at this time" message for the rest of the clan, but afterwards he's more of a liability than any kind of gain.
Well, at least unless we are going to be encountering the lost at every step of our way, in which case every extra (metaphorical) sword at our side is of great use, but that's a rather big bet to make.

"I will have letters written for all the Clan Champions in the morning, and sent out the same day," Bayushi Chisata continues. "Though for Hida Tanaka-sama, I will give a pledge of support rather than a warning."
"Oh really?" Yasuki Goro asks. "The Scorpion will stand with the Crab in the coming war?"
"I will do my best to convince my Lord that this is the proper course of action," the Scorpion Daimyo says. "Meanwhile, I will send diplomats to the Crane to aid with negotiations there."
"Yasuki Kitano-san should have been there for a week by now," Yasuki Goro responds. He's looking at Bayushi Chisata warily. "I'm sure he'll appreciate the help."
Bayushi Chisata simply smiles back at your superior, and then she turns her head back to you.
"Please, rest for the evening," she says. "You have done use a service, and I would see you refreshed before you leave."
"My thanks, Bayushi-sama," you say, bowing again.
You are led back to your room, carrying your breastplate, and the sight of your bed heartens you greatly. Even still, you take your time in setting your armor on its stand, checking it over for damage. Aside from where the lacquer work has been chipped, there is only a very small indention on one of the plates. There is no other damage to the armor that you can see.
Once again, you are in awe of your mother's work. To withstand a blow such as the one Hachi gave you is a true sign she is a master craftswoman. You smile and give your mother a silent prayer of thanks. Even from afar, she is protecting you.
There is a little time to think as you look the armor over. You have done a good thing this evening, even beyond the destruction of the Lost one. You have helped contribute materially to the overall readiness of your clan in the coming war, and even managed to strengthen ties with the Scorpion Clan. All in all, these last few days have been quite profitable.
Which is likely what Yasuki Goro intended all along. You pause for a moment, letting that sink in. True, the delay is unfortunate, but it was only a few days. And in that time he and your allies have managed to make headway toward your goal. Without doubt, Yasuki Goro is a wonder at diplomacy and court. If he can, he will likely try to manage such in the other major cities on your travels should they not delay the caravan too much.
You head into bed, smiling. You understand a little more about your superior now, and his plans. You'll have to discuss them with Shasa later, but for now the ache in your torso demands you get some rest.
You close your eyes, and soon enough slumber overtakes you.
You remember this feeling… You remember this garden. It was almost two years ago, during your Gempukku, but no matter how much time has passed you could not forget beauty such as this. It has stayed with you, quiet and unobtrusive, waiting to be seen when the time was right.
The woman is suddenly before you, garbed in a finely tailored, if plain, green kimono. You still cannot see her face, but you get the feeling she is smiling at you. She raises a hand to stroke your cheek. The feel of her skin makes your heart pound faster, and you can't help leaning into her touch.
"I will come soon," she whispers.
Everything fades away, and you perceive nothing more as you fade back into dreamless sleep.
You have a foggy recollection of your dream. The garden… The Woman… It has been quite some time since you thought of her last. Was it merely a dream brought on by an old enemy returned and vanquished, or has the Spirit truly contacted you again? If so, why?
