This might be a Stupid Question but what old Grudges do the Crab/Scorpion have with each other?
Assuming that the Evil Spirit Theory is real and works by inflaming resentment and grudges and that the EST won't try the same tactic twice that would mean that the Scorpion would be next in breaking alliances via manipulating old grudges.

Plus there is the chance that Maturu might be vulnerable if he is actually the one Sosuke punched during his backstory.

Would really suck if another one of his Friends turned on him for various evil supernatural reasons.

The Scorpion have fucked with the Crab numerous times, but the one that is an obvious source of grudge was their attempted assassination of Kisada.

But in the end. I don't think that we need to resort to supernatural inflammation on this one. The hatred of the Crane for the Crab is legendary for a reason. It was never really about Sousuke, it was about sticking it to the Crane.

The thing about Crab/Crane relations, well, they're long, complex, and full of history, but..... At their essence, it's a clash of values.

Direct Duty, vs Elegance in all things.

When it comes to the Scorpion, it really isn't the same. Indirect Duty, Vs Direct Duty.

Note, there are many points of conflict, where one or another have had run ins, but...... When Standard Crab runs into a problem, a "Do I do Duty or Honor?" he has the same answer to Standard Scorpion. Different styles, sure, but still. Duty uber alles.

Standard Crane goes "Duty, Honor? I die Stylish!", and either chooses one or the other, or tries both. While looking Awsome. Unless their Daidoji, in which case, they are very Standard Crab.


All of which is an expansive way of saying, Crab/Scorpion fight's going to be harder to start.
 
Hey everybody. I'm just chiming in to say that the Quest is going to be on indefinite hiatus for the foreseeable future. I'm dealing with a lot of things in my life, and until I have them well in hand I just don't have the time or energy to dedicate to this. These things have been affecting me for some time, as you've likely seen with my decreased update schedule. It's not just burnout.

But rest assured, I do plan on finishing this Quest. We're so close to the end, and you all have walked with me every step of the way. Together we're going to see Sosuke's story finished, and I'm going to do my best to make it something worthy of all the time you've put into this rambling story of mine.

I can't thank you enough.

Gotta admit, even with this quest apprently nearing the end I've got to be impressed with Sosuke. In about a year he went from a no name random Crab Scrub, to a demon slaying, Uber Charismatic, Emperor Recognised level famous warrior, with better political skills than 99.9% of the rest of the Crab.

Oh, and he got a hot, blonde Waifu who might be able to swing us a Lion/Crab Alliance (an alliance that can fuck up most of the rest of Rokugan if it actually happens)

All in all, if he survives, he's accomplished more than enough in the time frame given.
