Glory of the Emerald Empire (Legend of the 5 Rings Quest)

Hmm...

[X] Push down the fire. (Roll Willpower)

I just had to go check something. Sosuke had 67 wounds left according to this update, and from this to now he took 10 and 18 wounds respectively. So, when he goes back to be the smoothest Crab to ever Crab he will be having a base of 39 wounds. Let's hope it's enough to cushion whatever damage we take from the fire.

[X] Push down the Fire (Roll Willpower)

Well, this is going be rather interesting.

Have to wonder how everyone will react now that the battle is over. Because any hope our character had of living as a simple samurai is over. Everyone is going to be wanting a piece of him.

While healing the master of fire would be nice, we have no idea if we are in fact able to do so.

We may heal him of the Shadow taint by burning everything away, his own body included.

I think we should focus on making sure that the power we have barely under control is suppressed before it burns us to nothing from the inside out.
Or before it slips out of our control.

In Greek myths Icarus's son learned the lesson of what happens when mortals get to close to the sun. Lets not make our surviving allies into he Rokugan equivalent.

So, just going to plug @gman391's Legend of the Ronin Quest again. He needs votes, and I'm hoping you all would be willing to help him get his Quest off the ground. Let's keep the L5R community on SV strong. We may be small now, but we're growing. Let's keep up the support!

...because everything that we do that is *not* pushing down the fire makes it that much more likely that we will die. If it is necessary that Sousuke die in order to end some threat to Rougan, that is right and proper, but right now, he has a Duty to try to live, so that he can do it again later.

Also, letting himself die here would mean making his mom Sad. You don't want to make his mom Sad, do you?

[X] Push down the fire. (Roll Willpower)

Willpower Roll: 8d10= 45
Stamina Roll: 4d10= 16

You burn, and you must put the fire out. If you do not, then everything that you are will fade away to ash and cinder. To die in accordance to duty would be honorable… But you know, even know through the haze that has overtaken your thoughts, that with the enemy vanquished your duty is complete. As such, you cannot allow yourself to die.

Slowly, ever so agonizingly slowly, you press against the heat and light bursting out from within your body and mind. You drew heavily upon the flame within you, that sliver of sunlight lodged within your soul, but so too did you unleash much of it before it could build to the point you would be overfilled. Survival is still possible.

The inferno surrounding you pulses as you press back against it, fighting to stay unleashed. It wishes to spread out further, to burn away even more impurities in cleansing light. It would rage uncontrolled and without limit, and take you along until there is nothing left of you. Such is the feeling you receive as you push back against the power and majesty of that terrible, fiery strength.

And then it fades away, and you are Hiruma Sosuke again. You are not some sun-touched hero from the depths of legend, even if you vaguely recall the name of Hida Yakamo from the chaos that lingers within your mind. All you are is a Bushi of the Crab Clan, a Samurai like so many others.

Pain overcomes you immediately, and with a strangled scream you fall to the ground. Your tetsubo slips from grip, and through hazy vision you see metal and wood crumble away to dust. It is as if your weapon had been left in a kiln for days, breaking apart beneath terrible heat. All that remains in the cracked, charred handle of what was once a weapon almost as familiar to you as your own family.

That could have been me, you think dully through the agony that has replaced your world. Is that me? I can't feel anything… No, that's not right. I feel everything. I don't… I can't…

Thought shatters as a fresh wave of suffering washes over you, your muscles convulsing as you scream. You gasp and clutch at your throat, trying to get enough air into lungs that simply will not fill enough to sustain you. You no longer burn, but your skin is peeling and blistered in the aftermath of that fire. Its touch lingers, and your body remembers that contact.

The wind on your flesh is torture, as is the ground beneath you. Everything that you touch feels as if it scrapes against raw nerve. You have experienced injury before; have endured through wounds that could easily kill other men and women. But you have never felt pain like this. It smothers you as surely as the fire did, and only one thought manages to make its way through that cloud of terrible affliction.

Am I going to die?

"Hiruma-san!" a woman calls out, though you can barely hear her through your suffering. "Hiruma-san, hold on!"

A comforting glow overtakes you, soft and gentle. It isn't like the harsh light you unleashed just a few moments ago, different from the overpowering weight and majesty of the sun. This light soothes your hurts, slowly taking away the pain. But that agony does not go softly, and even as the edge of your anguish is blunted your flesh still resounds with crippling torment.

"What was that, Asako-sama?" the voice asks, now recognizable as Himawari as she kneels over you. "Did you cast some spell to bolster Hiruma-san? Whatever it was, it has injured him terribly." She exhales sharply. "I... I've never seen anything like this!"

As the ache continues to fade, her words begin to register fully. You turn your head and look up. Asako Akio and Moto Shinichiro have made their way to you, bloodied yet still able, and behind them you see the rest of your allies approaching. The Elemental Master of Fire says nothing in response to Himawari's inquiry, instead just looking at you.

His gaze is considering, and you see him weighing you. As your gaze briefly locks with his own, you think you see a question in his eyes. A question he directs at you, about the power you wielded. And, perhaps, you also see a willingness to help keep matters hidden if you wish.

Sosuke has taken 24 Wounds from holding on to the power that lit him aflame. Combined with the damage he took during the fight, he has 15 Wounds remaining. He is in the Down Bracket, and will take +40 on all TNs until he is healed. As well, he will require a Void Point to take any action. He is currently out of Void Points for the day, however, so he will need to see how effective Himawari's healing is before doing much of anything.

Christ. Without that void point Hiruma probably would have died.

Well, the cats out of the bag now.
Asako Akio continues to be a bro and is willing to take credit for it if we want him to, though that won't hold forever and if people wanted to poke holes in the story I'm sure they could with a bit of work.

@Winged Knight why were the rolls 8d10 and 4d10 instead of XkY? What made the roll system switch like that?

Because they were pure Attribute Rolls, rather than Skill/Attribute. In this case, Sosuke pushed down the fire bolstered by the incredible Willpower of Hida Yakamo aiding him. Then when the fire was gone, he was left with his regular Stamina buffed by Void to cushion against the aftermath.

I'm wondering if keeping this a secret is a good idea. If noone else knew what it really was, then yeah we'd keep it fucking secret. But, as that tainted bastard gloated to us, he knows we're Yakamo's reincarnation. A secret that our enemy knows but our allies do not will inevitably become a liability.

[x] "I sunned so hard...can't think, everything is pain, pain....reincarnation amirite?"

Because I don't think Sosuke is coherent to make sense right now.

-[X] Say the truth. We just recently discovered to be the reincarnation of Hida Yakamo of the second thunder. The enemy said we were one and that this happened before once while killing a Ogre.

The enemy knows. We really can't keep it a secret without hurting the empire.

[X] Remain silent.

We should tell people eventually, but now is not the time, and I'd like to talk to Akio about it first.
