Glory of the Emerald Empire (Legend of the 5 Rings Quest)

[X] Clear out what lesser Shadowspawn remain.

If he's got some kind of "Lawl I just jump into the body of another Shadowspawn nearby when this one is broken", then we need to make sure he doesn't have any nearby.

Because that seems like the dickish sort of thing an incarnation of Nothing could pull off.

[X] Attack the giant Shadowspawn while it is weakened.

I trust the forces we have with us to be able to deal with the rest of the shadow spawn, but I strongly suspect we are the only thing on the field that can deal with the giant.

No, you've done enough for these others. They can defend themselves properly now that the barrier to their senses has been lifted. You don't need to do anything more for them, and it would only be a distraction if you did. Now is the time to turn your focus to the real threat, the true enemy of this world and everything in it.

The giant Shadowspawn is still reeling as you approach, the hole in its non-existent limb preventing it from moving properly as something and Nothing grind against each other inside the wound. A few lesser Shadowspawn attempt to come close to you, to prevent your assault… But instead stagger back beneath the heat of your flames. The darkness that has taken over their bodies cannot withstand your presence, and so your march goes unimpeded.

You are burning. Sunlight and strength filter through your body, suffuse your blood and empower your flesh. There is so much power within you, power that even now fills you to the very limits of your capacity to hold it. Shattering the darkness helped relieve the pressure, but the longer you maintain your grasp on these sunlit embers the more it will fill you up. Even through the haze of your mind, you know this conflict must end soon before your own strength consumes you.

Your enemy shifts where it kneels, noticing your presence as you come up from behind. It is far too little, far too late. With a swing of your arms you slam your tetsubo into the back of the giant Shadowspawn, fire trailing up its body in a wave that extends all the way to its squat neck. The abomination bellows in agony, a resonating wave that creates the shape of noise with its utter silence. The ground trembles beneath the force of it, as if the world is gasping in surprise as the monster's terrible cry.

The Shadowspawn's upper body twists bonelessly toward you, and though it has no face you can clearly feel what glimmers of anger it has left from the broken remains it spawned from growing in response to your assault. It raises an enormous fist high into the air, a solid club of emptiness to rend you apart and break you down until you are… Nothing.

You respond with another strike, once more sending a wave of burning fire up its body. Once more it screams, plumes of smoking shadow leaking from the crater you dug into its body and from the burns coursing across its form. That black mist ignites beneath the heat of your flames, breaking down until nothing but dust and ash remains.

Then the fist comes down, and you are surrounded by the very essence of annihilation. Your limbs are slashed into your body beneath the weight of that blow, the strain of standing upright growing ever greater as more and more of the Shadowspawn's essence pushes against you. A thousand needles tear into your flesh as once, poking through your skin and attempting to dig their way to the deepest part of your being so they might rip it out.

Emptiness is not sufficient to describe this power. This is the end of all things, the destruction of order and harmony. The darkness whispers and roars in your ears as that terrible pressure increases, trying to crush you with the weight of all that has never been nor ever will be. Even your fire flickers beneath this burden, fading back…

Only to ignite even hotter as you cry out your defiance! You will not be smothered like some candle flame. You are light and heat and power! Within you burns the remnants of the sun itself, and even diminished that grants you more than enough strength to repel this violation encroaching upon your body and soul.

You are burning, and you embrace that scorching agony as it fills you up and pushes back against the shadow! You sit within a burning globe of fire, the sun in miniature, and the darkness breaks around you like so much glass.

With a soundless shriek the Shadowspawn pulls back, and you find yourself completely free. The sudden lack of pressure makes you stumble, the grass around you bursting into flame as your fire spills out. As such, you are unprepared when spears of shadow shoot forth from your enemy and slam you into the ground.

The rocky soil is ground to glass beneath the heat of your fire and the pressure of the Shadowspawn as it pushes you away, but you feel no pain. The pressure here is nothing like the weight you just experienced, nor the strain of the fire as it continues to build within your body. You relieve that pressure somewhat by grabbing the tendrils driving you forth and incinerating them like paper.

You growl as you get to your feet, tetsubo held in one hand and ready for whatever assault the Shadowspawn might throw at you.

Only no attack comes. Instead, you see your enemy leaning back as if taking a deep breath… And darkness streams off the lesser Shadowspawn as if taken in by a mighty wind. There is a piercing screech from each as their shadowed essence is ripped away from their bodies, fading away before finally disappearing as if they'd never been there at all.

The cratering wound to the giant Shadowspawn's leg closes somewhat as the monster takes in the substance, or lack thereof, of its followers. The burns you've inflicted are also healing over, or rather a close approximation of such a thing. It is more that the giant Shadowspawn is simply replacing the parts of it that were destroyed with more of the formless substance that makes up its being. There aren't enough of its followers left to heal it entirely, but this is still a problem.

You are burning. The power within you pulses with a need to be directed, pulled from you so that you do not break apart like an overfull water skin. Time is running short, and the longer this battle goes the greater chance you might fall before it is completed.

And that is something you cannot allow.

[] Focus everything on the Giant Shadowspawn.
[] Kill what lesser Shadowspawn remain.
[] Write in.

Sosuke has taken 10 wounds. He is still in the Healthy Bracket due to being bolstered by Hida Yakamo's legendary resilience, but these injuries will remain once he reverts to normal.

I think the time has come to kill his healbots.

Because the the Elemental Master of Fire has had free time to charge up something really big and scary by now.

I'm kinda tempted to keep trying to focus the big one down, since i'm not really sure how fast we could clear out the lesser shadow spawn. They are fairly spread out and I don't think we have all that much for AOE besides what looks like some kind of flame aura.

Hm... probably should have killed the lesser ones off first. Oh well. Better do it now before it manages to heal itself even more.

Plus, it'll give the Shugensha like the Elemental Master the breathing room to unleash their attacks unhindered.

[x] Focus everything on the Giant Shadowspawn.
Attack his healbots or attack him - both ultimately have the same outcome. Doing damage to him directly will force him to consume his minions. Defeating his minions is effectively doing damage to him. The end result of both is him having effectively taken no damage while the number of lesser Shadowspawn is significantly decreased. The only difference is that, if we focus on him, he'll be too busy focusing on us in return (lest we destroy him) to attack our allies, who are doubtlessly killing the lesser spawn even as we fight.

Also his healing can't seem to keep up with the damage we're dishing out.

The issue is that this transfer likely works both ways.

So if he feels he's losing, he can transfer his essence to the lesser ones, have them scatter, and reform if even one of them get away.

We have allies that can kill the Lesser spawn. If Asako Akio has built up a massive strike after recovering from the Crystal Firebomb earlier, the double whammy could potentially kill it before it can drain the minions.

Besides, if we focus on the small-fry, the boss could much more easily smash one of our buddies with that attack it used. I doubt they could weather the blow as well as we did.
