Red Mage is definitely more of a side-character. Black Mage is more iffy, especially since the comic revolves around a group instead of an individual.
Edit: I would say Fighter is the main protagonist, if I picked one.

R2-D2 has been rejected for several reasons.
1) He is a Robot. Normally this is not too much of an issue, but....
2) If he were to be uploaded to the Mainframe to control a hologram, he would lose all of his icon status.
3) Only Mace Windu would understand wtf he is saying. That might be fun for lolz, but not practical.
Shinichi Mechazawa has been rejected. If I can't get away with R2-D2, then what makes you think I can get away with this thing? He has no qualifications what so ever.

"I will need you to hire the majority of the rest of the staff." Gendo told Dumbledore while the two drank tea.
Gendo almost frowned deeper at the tea, coffee was always better.
"Of course." Albus answered while looking at the bottom of his tea cup.
"The Grim..." Albums muttered, and glanced at Gendo.
Gendo's frowned deepened, and he looked Dumbledore over.
He was in a sharp suit, his hair was still long and his beard was still impressive by any standards, but it was organized, straight, trimmed where needed.
This was acceptable.
"I am going to talk to the parents of some of our students, the richer of them." Gendo explained, while Dumbledore frowned.
"Are we low on funding?" Dumbledore asked.
"Not at all, but these people will help keep legal matters a non issue...and with some of these children," Gendo tapped a stack of files, color coded. "Legal issues are inevitable."
Dumbledore nodded his head, but stated a concern.
"I am worried for the teachers, these text books are...worrisome."
"How so?" Gendo asked.
"There are multiple magical systems in place, and they all are different with their own set of rules..."
"I take it this complicates things?" Gendo was now ignoring his tea.
"Greatly. You see, I am regaeded as a master in my own worlds system of magic, while I am now unqualified to teach anything about these other magical systems."
Gendo concidered this for a moment, but Dumbledore continued.
"I am currently learning about 'Materia', and it is quite easy to learn. But it is also extreamly dangourus, and I would limit what the students have avalible to them."
"Pretend for a moment that I do not know what Materia is."
"Basicly jewels that allow you to temporarily know how to cast a spell, the more you use it, the more powerful the crystal."
"Do we even have any?" Gendo asked with am arched eyebrow.
"Mr. Ikari, we have thousands of them. I have locked up the more dangourus of them."
Gendo sighed, and finished his now cold tea.
"Hire magical teachers based off of how fast they can learn, and have them learn different systems. You will be teaching Materia and your own magical system until we can get sutible teachers."
Dumbledore nodded his head, and sighed.
"They call my system of magic 'Core Flow Theory', based on us wizards using our magical core as a means of channeling ambient magic around us in order to have a high unlimited supply." Gendo arched an eyebrow, and Dumbledore explained.
"Our cores can only take so much before tiring out. With moderation, anything is possible."
"Just not impossibly huge spells being cast in one shot." Kakashi said, entering the room.
"Yes, that is true." Dumbledore answered.
"Chakra is one of the sub categories of Chi and Kai, they need to learn both before being allowed Chakra Classes. If we have any who can get that far, I will teach them." Kakashi stated, and Gendo nodded his head.
"Kakashi, help with the hiring, and get an assistant." Gendo ordered, standing up and leaving his office.
"I have to talk with the parents."

"Mr. Ikari, how do I know my children will be safe?" Hohenhiem Elric asked, while Minato Namakaze was touching things randomly.
"I can't put seals anywhere in this school, and its all impossibly durable. Try breaking this pencil." Minato said, handing one of the school pencils over to his wife.
Wait, what?
Yui Ikari was standing right there, glaring lightly at him.
She took it, and broke it.
Gendo's mind went blank, and he walked up to her and hugged her.
"You have some explaining to do Gendo." She said, as everyone just stared at them.
Minato was gobsmacked, he tried to break another one but failed.
"Cortana, give them the tour." Gendo said, walking towards his office with his wife.
Looks like he had a date to cancel.
