Fyre, Fyre, Burning Skitter

In the case of the manhwa example I gave, the MC has to play along with the scenario because that's her only way to go home. She's still confined by the system, only now the quests aren't "defeat the boss on the 37th floor", they are "raise your favoribility with the prince". That she's using her considerable power for that just shows that she's creative but she can't break the entire setting.
It absolutely sounds like she can break the setting (at least in some ways), but chooses not to, because the price would be higher than she is (currently) willing to pay.

Isn't that always the way though? You have to balance what you CAN do with the price of doing it. As long as the situation isn't getting desperate the price for up and going "screw everything I'm doing it my way" is generally too high but when things start getting down to the wire is when it starts looking like a much better option.

Heh, there's actually at least one anime where the MC actually does this right from the start. "Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs". MC is isekaid into a world where women have all the power and is told by his stepmother that he's to marry a much older (and kinda ugly) woman. MC says "screw this" and using his knowledge from the video game that world was based on he goes out and makes himself a fortune before proceeding to trash the scenario and do things his way.

BND is always fun to write :)

Like I have said in the past, everyone has a backstory. In a place like Brockton Bay, in a job area like his canon one, he's going to have a doozy... :D

So, went and reread the entire thing, and I found a couple of small continuity errors. First, between Amelia showing up at the Grangers' and Mr. Granger getting done shouting at her, he seems to have filed for a name change...
"She should be worried, if I'm entirely honest," Mr Granger, or Michael as he'd told them to call him, growled.

Richard Granger explaining in detail with significant venom why he felt that his daughter,
And then, when Lisa was talking to Danny, there's some confusion about what the portal that Taylor fell into looked like...
"Sorry, Danny. I've tried everything I can think of. No one's seen or heard from Taylor for days. No witnesses aside from that one homeless guy who swore blind a blue hole in space ate her."
Because that's not how Taylor remembers it...
"A glowing opening maybe seven feet tall, about four wide, roughly oval," Skitter said after thinking for a second. "I couldn't see through it, it was kind of a blank dark orange glow about the color of a twilight sky when the sun's just setting, if that helps. I didn't feel anything at all when I went through, it was just on the street one second in Brockton Bay, downstairs the next step. As soon as I was through it vanished."

Just consider that at least part of the spear was made of metal. And it just went foomp like so much flashpaper.
And yet, even though the spear was completely consumed by Fiendfyre, the goblin was completely untouched.

Could the portal have looked different to others, than to the transportee? It's a more than four-dimensional 'thing', after all...

Just shows Taylor's use of fyre-fighting is that good?

Mr. Granger... seems to have filed for a name change...
[[Michael]] / [[Richard]]
((Mick or Dick?))
I can't see how our Unflammable Author can get out of that one, but they can be sneaky...

Well, the names are given by different people. Michael from Taylor, and Richard from Amelia. Since Mr. Granger told Taylor and the others to call him Michael, it could be an error on the Ministry's end. The organization is incompetent, after all...
Or - something I've heard done before - he was annoyed enough to give out a different name because he didn't want the people he was annoyed at to use his actual name.

Maybe it's a Portal reference? That's what I thought, anyway...

And I hope there is no multidimensional spanning research center monitoring things (the Infinite Testing Initiative)...
"You know, Leet. I sometimes wonder if the WCC is worth using. Then, I think of all the fun we've had with it."

"That's the third Wizarding Britain that you've... enjoyed?"

"Fifth. If we count that cross-over with the Dungeon Dimensions incursion in Ankh-Morpork, and that massive cross-over event."

"I try not to think about that."

"There were some interesting signs, when I checked the time-line, before entering it. Looks like we'd better select a Skitter to... do some urban improval."

"Always a difficult choice. How about that one Lisa just persuaded to carry a gun? That's often a good change-point, and you said you'd been researching her world."

"Yes. She'll do. Operation 'Mutual Improvement' is Go!"

Umm. What was Lustrum's first name again - was it by some chance Beth?
As far as I can recall, we never got a canon name for Lustrum, so any time a fanfic has to name her civilian ID, the author has to name her or use one that's been used in other fanfics that they've read before.

Edit: Unless you were referencing a joke that flew over my head, that tends to happen to me a lot XD

There are certain characters in Worm who are only ever meant to be important as their cape names. It's why Assault and Battery are Ethan and Whatever You Want To Name Her.

Hell, you could give Lustrum's real name a totally masculine name.

...which just made me think of an interesting concept - what if Taylor is named for Lustrum? After all, who names a girl something like Taylor? (Where I'm from, Taylor is a purely masculine name, so the character caught my attention by being female.)

Uber and Leet being a case in point. It seems like every fic has different names for them.

Well, there is Taylor Swift, who is indeed female...

True, and I'm old enough that she would not easily come to my mind. (You know the spiel about my lawn and whether or not you should be on it ... *laugh*)

But it is an unusual female name. Just a passing thought, really.

It is obvious that Lustrum's first name is/was 'Chastity'...

(Yes, that was a joke. But. Names which are the reverse of how some would read the cape name... Also, see 'Lustrum', which has a bit of a weird meaning...)

A cape who had such dedicated followers that one (a cape themselves?) went to the Birdcage, for them, and said follower managed to keep up the impersonation... That would be impressive...

I think Lustrum chose her name by playing off Lustre, since she can create a hard light shell around herself. Which doesn't say good things about her research capabilities. Or possibly about Wildbow's.

Yeah, one of the huge Nazi organizations - IN GERMANY - is basically called was is colloquially known as 'Corporation'. You see the word all the time in German companies, such as Mercedes AMG - Automotiv Motoren Gesselschaft. The Nazis are incredibly powerful there, because they're managing to do everything despite the rather harsh laws regarding Nazi imagery and such in Germany, ever since this little spat back in the 30s and 40s ... I think he just went "Dur, Nazi Germany, of course it's German!" Either that or Cauldron is running around killing anyone who might actually make them pay for their Nazi-ism.

In my stories, I go with Freiheitsgesellschaft ("freedom society").
