Why would we not try to find as many options as possible? There's no need to rush.
look it's the 4th day this quest has been running and we're still in character creation, and the lack of progress a little frustrating.
hell if i didn't already know Alivaril was any good at this sort of thing I'd would have dropped this quest from the lack of progress.

I believe it's high time to pick something, so maybe Alivaril could show us mercy and give us the sub-powers of all the options we currently have, so that we can pick a power already.

Let's search for Boundary and Perspective while we're at it.
It might not score us Omnipotence, but since we're in high-tier space here, this shot in the dark might actually get us some fraction of Yukaripotence that we could eventually develop into something truly worth having.

Better start weak and become Yukari than start strong and get curbstomped by someone who became Yukari.

yeah but we've basically looked at most of the ideas people have had and yet none of them have sparked as much of a reaction as the first couple.
Mostly because they just don't have the potential those three have.

Now i've been looking at the sub powers and have a few worries, what does everyone else think?
- Purple+Blue: Forget
Purple+Blue: Substitute
Purple+Black: Ignore
I'm a little worried about these powers, i have no idea how they fit into 'science!' and give that it also contains a 'forget' power....
- Blue: Comprehension
- Blue: Record
- Blue: Learn
- Blue+Silver: Innovate
This one is actually from Assimilate, i'm assuming that the main "Science!" power covers all this but even so its an awesome mix of powers.
Should let us pull off a lot of stuff.
- White: Safeguard
- White+Purple: Preserve
This one however is interesting, it specifically mentions safeguarding and preserving. While this does likely refer to the things we have inside of us, it could also give us some powers that help us survive in general.

Still stuck between the two however, both are awesome and each has a strong point.

All the ones in this tier are meant to have that kind of potential. Besides, what I meant was what powers other capes might have.

If you're thinking you're going to be able to absorb objects and then make more gadgets/more enchanted items out of them: No. That would invalidate/overshadow SCIENCE! as a valid option.

...Now I'm somewhat regretting telling people sub-power names beforehand. Oh, well. Live and learn.

So, looking at the power Manipulate, I had some thoughts.

For Telekinesis, your cumulative upper limit is about 500 pounds (or 226 kilograms). The only other limit on how many objects you can grab at once is your multitasking ability.

You cannot affect only part of an individual's body. If you wish to "grab" them, you must do it all at once. As such, you cannot use your TK to, say, rupture the veins in somebody's brain.

Underwhelming, due to the low weight restriction. Not useless, but 226 kilograms really isn't very much when it comes to throwing stuff around, especially in a world with flying bricks. Might be able to stop projectiles and block stuff with it, though, and if so it's pretty much invulnerability to conventional weaponry and a fair number of unconventional forms of weaponry. Telekinetic manipulation of gases might work; depriving people of air and such.

The fact that multitasking isn't enhanced probably puts a stop to most of the more inventive methods of using it, though.

On the upside, I suspect we could fly with it.

Still, on its own, it isn't that great.

The biokinesis is touch-range and, as one person put it, "Panacea-grade". Evelyn will not inherently know what her changes will do, so she will need to learn a lot more about biology before she starts trying to heal people or anything along those lines.

This doesn't mean she can't do a whole ton of indiscriminate damage to an individual if she gets her hands on them.

Touch range 'I win' button, which is nice, though with this powerset, if someone gets close enough to touch us, we already fucked up pretty bad. Still, in the long term it offers a method to upgrade and heal our allies (and maybe ourself? Depends if we can change ourself). Would need a lot of work to become useful, but that does mean it has growth potential.

On the whole, though, this one isn't spectacular, though it could have potential.

The Thermokinesis is fully capable of producing up to 900 and/or -150 degrees Celsius in multiple areas at once. The limits are your multitasking ability and/or a cumulative area of 30 square feet (2.7 square meters).

This one is pretty decent in terms of temperature. 900 (and -150) isn't bad. It's not incredible, either, but whatever. The area it covers isn't too bad either, though it is pretty limited all things considered. This is pretty much an instant kill against anyone who doesn't have enhanced durability, because you can spontaneously combust them, and a fair few that do (I expect heating the air they are trying to breathe would be harmful, even to a lot of flying bricks). This feels like the main power, with the other two being secondary powers.

All in all, this powerset is three 'meh'-tier powers put together to make one decent power. Not enthusiastic about this one, especially if we can't apply the biokinetic changes to ourself. I kind of think this power demonstrates just why you don't specialize in versatility.

Does anyone see more potential in this power than I do? Because I'm not seeing a reason to choose it.

I was actually thinking that since we would understand them and had mental boosting powers, we could use our understanding to increase our knowledge and build minor minor things.
Such as figuring out how to build a car sized fusion reactor after absorbing one the size of a golf ball. (note both would have the same stats, one is just waaay better.)

Or just improve the gadgets we have absorbed... that would be cool too

Also i'm sorry for focusing on the sub powers... i'm mostly trying to either discover something that makes one power obviously better than the other so that everyone piles on that OR help give someone ELSE the nudge they need to write up a reason why we should pick one or the other.

:( i mostly swing between Science! and Assimilation at random intervals, but STILL can't pick one.

Edit: Science! is currently winning because its what started this whole mess :p and suits the main character. (and power armour)
It would also let us build stuff that our sister (and our 'New' twin) can use.... plus explosions.

It's fine. I just could have used better terms for the sub-options that would have avoided misunderstandings of that scale. I'd be a horrible QM if I tried to punish people for wondering about something that's meant to be speculated on.

In hindsight, using the same word I used for Tinkers in Splintered was not such a good idea.

Edit: Bugger all this. I can go back and try to fix the terms/colors for all the sub/main powers to avoid such blatant misunderstandings if people would like. Or I can just put different sub-powers in entirely.

I guess so, trying to figure everything out is fun but also frustrating :)

......in fact Screw This!! Its time to MAN up and take a stand! :rage:

[X] Select SCIENCE!

Because EXPLOSIONS and POWER ARMOUR and DEATH RAYS! and "...Oops" and "...huh thats funny" and BOOM! and "If they didn't want me doing something then there'd be a law against it right?" and finally "what could go wrong?"

We also need to decide on a power for our triplet.
[x] Select Assimilation

Mwhahaha! The race is ON!

.....maybe i shouldn't have had that extra coffee?

Still surprised that nobody is going for upgrade. Or many of the other powers they've wanted to look at. Oh, well!

We also need to decide on a power for our triplet.

I think the consensus was something along the lines of "magical girl", which I found rather amusing.

In all seriousness, she'll be picking her own power after you guys do. (translation: people will get to vote from a set of powers that would synergize well with what you pick)

Or they can just vote for her to pick whatever and watch what happens. Either/or.

...I probably should not have spoiled that.

wouldn't both Science! and upgrade be two of the best synergizers with Assimilation? Their who thing is making cool things and making things better, so they could make all sorts of things for us to eat.

Not necessarily. Specializing too far in one direction can make that one specialization quite powerful, but then you'd be rather ineffective against certain kinds of foes. Additionally, there's a finite amount of material and the same part/reagent can't be used twice.

Translation: Anything other people use for materials is another thing you can't assimilate the traits of. You'll be able to eat the tech made, but they need those traits to retain their functionality.

Your mother is also already an Enchanter who needs reagents.

I suppose Upgrade would be a pretty good synergy, but Sentinel isn't really capable of the kind of borderline insane-troll-logic thinking you'd need to make full use of it. She'd be better off taking a completely different kind of power, like Manipulate, Time, or Nullify. Teamwork is a thing.

I'm kind of undecided between Upgrade and SCIENCE!. It looks like the majority of people are leaning towards Assimilation or SCIENCE!. That makes it easier to decide what to vote for.

[X] Select SCIENCE!

I have to go do some stuff, but I might change that to Upgrade in a couple of hours depending on the voting.

Edit: A couple of questions.
  1. Would we be able to innovate our own technology after developing an understanding of the workings of other technology? I'm expecting a yes.
  2. Would we be able to choose Upgrade for the sentinel if we choose SCIENCE! for ourselves?
