Flying True: An ATLA AU Nonbender Quest

Rather well. You can't use it of someone is grappling you, but the same can be said of a spear. If they are far enough away for you to point your spear at them, they are far enough away for you to easily shoot them.
Yeah, but there were over a dozen of them. If it were just one or two then Aang would have no trouble dealing with them.
I'm not sure about that. Aang probably could have ran away if he wasn't busy frog-hunting, but there's a difference between running away and beating in a fight. Plus, a Yuyan Archer, operating as they should, wouldn't BE in a fight. They are covert operatives, striking from the shadows and taking down their prey before a fight could happen. Heck, canonically, if they weren't aiming to capture rather than kill, Aang WOULD have died (they pinned his shoes to the ground before he even knew they were there, during an already very windy day).

Also, nitpick : we only see at most 6 on screen at once. Probably not "over a dozen".
Why exactly can't we be superbly skilled with both?
Time we spend honing our skill with the spear, is time we aren't spending honing our skill with teh bow.

If we CAN gain skill in the spear, without losing any skill in the bow, then great, sure, lets do that. But, that'd require the DM to set up our skill vote that way. Which will come after our Parentage Vote.

That you see. Covert operatives ur not suppose to see them. :evil2:

Assuming Magoose is not trying some weird Narrative type quest then it'd be based on our rolls not the time we spend on it.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe this for a second. Sure you can hit someone with a bow, but they are not made for melee combat no matter how good you are.

Creation Part 2: Family and a Dream
Creation Part 2: Family and a Dream.

You were born in a world of Chaos. War was not all you knew, but it defined the world you lived in. You had seen death from the men and women who left, either as mercenaries or in the militias, or the occasional army that was conscripted by the whoever was the king of the year.

You had seen what this world had created. Wars, death…

But it brought people together.

This world had created your parents, the strongest people you have ever known.

Your Family were:

[]Wanderers, and Heroes: They had come to town one day riding on the back of an Ostrich Horse, with only a sword, and a saddle. Arriving in town, it had been a town besieged by thugs, calling themselves soldiers. They were bullies, taking things they did not earn, or deserve, for the sake of security. The two of them were alone… but they had kind hearts and a good sword between the two of them. Both had helped around the town, as wanderers in need of food and water were to be. But the soldiers did not like them, and they sought to drive them out. With skills of the world, they saw the soldiers surrendered, stripped of their uniforms and weapons, and sent walking never to return. They settled down, finally finding a place to call home. (Gain Trait: Wanderer's Child: Your entire life has been one where you could not see what is to come. A great world was beyond your humble home (Travel Rolls will not face a debuff when traveling alone. +10 to combat rolls.))

[]Farmers: You had been born a farmer, and your family had been farmers for the last fifty generations, on the same land they had been working, day in,day out. Even without earth bending, they managed well. They were good people, just and true, with a simple life, and a family to care for. (Gain Trait: Farmer's Child: You have led a simple life in the fields. Sometimes, you can hear the earth move, and the animals sing. (+10 to administration rolls. +5 to Spiritual rolls.))

[]Nobles: Your Father was the governor of the providence, a minor one at that when the government of Ba Sing Se stopped ruling well, and your mother a lady from the northern Earth Kingdom. It was a mercy that they were not filled with ambitions beyond the lands they were tasked to govern, but filled with duty to their people... They both ruled well and tried not to be noticed by the Warlords and the bandits that roamed. They did their best… and their best was enough for now. (Gain Trait: The Noble's Child: You have been raised in court, and received an education few would ever have. +10 to diplomacy rolls, +5 to intrigue rolls))

[]Criminals and Whores: Your Father was a man outside the law. He had poached, robbed, stole, swindled, and taken things that were not his own, to feed you, and your mother. While your mother had been… a lady of the night. Father was not proud of his talents or skills, or the path he walked, but it was the only one he saw as necessary to save you from hardship. Your mother… was happy, that you grew up in a normal life. (Gain Trait: The Roge's Child: You have been raised in the underbelly of the world, you know there is more than the black and white Morality of life within the law. +10 to intrigue rolls. +5 to combat rolls.))

[]Sages: Your father was the local sage, a wise man who tried his best to right the wrongs and appease the spirits whenever they were angered, while your mother helped them. They always tried to see the goodness in people… even the bad. (Gain Trait: Sage's Child: You were raised in a spiritual household. One where they could be felt… and seen on occasion. (+15 to spiritual rolls. You have a connection that some would take a lifetime to have.)

[]No one: You have no family to call your own. You are just a child, a nameless one that lost his family to a world that is uncaring… unjust, and brutal. You were alive because you were lucky, and because the spirits had a plan for you. Whatever it was… you did not know.(Gain Trait: Orphaned: You are without parents, living alone, and being alive through you're own skills, and the kindness of others. (+5 to all rolls. You are alone in this world)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every night you had a dream… a dream you could not quite understand.

But it was a dream you clung to though everything… becoming the only thing that truly defined you.

What is that Dream:

[]Become A Great Warrior!: You wish to become a warrior of unparalleled skill and valor. You want to be seen as someone who can fight anyone, even the great benders of the world, with a chance to win.

[]Become a Noble: You want to become powerful, You want to be respected, and above all else… you want to prove to the world that you can rise on your own merits.

[]Become Rich: You want to have wealth, and be the envy of the world. You want to have things that you can only imagine having.

[]Travel the World: You want to see the world beyond your village… beyond even the maps of the world.

[]Bring Peace to the World: You want to end the violence… to stop the wars… to see a world where no one will die because of conflict.

[]Write in. (Subject to QM Approval)

AN: Enjoy, and please vote in plan format.

Education and Weapons will be next turn and then we can begin.

I have three ideas so here there are

[X]Plan: Alone till found
-[X]No one: You have no family to call you're own. You just a child, a nameless one that lost his family to a world that is uncaring… unjust, and brutal. You were alive because you were lucky, and because the spirits had a plan for you. Whatever it was… you did not know what it is. (Gain Trait: Orphaned: You are without parents, living alone, and being alive through you're own skills, and the kindness of others. (+5 to all rolls. You are alone in this world)
-[X]Bring Peace to the World: You want to end the violence… to stop the wars… to see a world where no one will die because of conflict.

[X]Plan: To build a future
-[X]Wanderers, and Heroes: They had come to town one day riding on the back of an Ostrich Horse, with only a sword, and a saddle. Arriving in town, it had been a town besieged by thugs, calling themselves soldiers. They were bullies, taking things they did not earn, or deserve, for the sake of security. [X]Plan: To know and to learn
- [X]Sages: Your father was the local sage, a wise man who tried his best to right the wrongs and appease the spirits whenever they were angered, while your mother helped them. They always tried to see the goodness in people… even the bad. (Gain Trait: Sage's Child: You were raised in a spiritual household. One where they could be felt… and seen on occasion. By that logic, you could say there was one hidden behind every blade of grass. I'm pretty sure we don't ever see a volley of arrows greater than 4 arrows, and we DO see that they CAN shoot multiple arrows at once while maintaining pin-point accuracy (specifically four). If there were a dozen archers, the volleys would be MUCH larger than they canonically are.
Assuming Magoose is not trying some weird Narrative type quest then it'd be based on our rolls not the time we spend on it.
Then we have a limited number of dice. Dice we assign to spear is dice we are not assigning to bow.

Plus, I meant back-ground time. Not actual quest time.
I'm sorry, but I don't believe this for a second. Sure you can hit someone with a bow, but they are not made for melee combat no matter how good you are.
Why wack them with your bow? Shoot them with an arrow. It's like shooting someone with a pistol, while they're MEANT to be used at range they are 100% still useable and lethal in short range.

And, if for some reason our super dooper archer skills don't allow us to shoot someone standing 5 feet from us, we can use the arrows as stabbing tools till we get the range we need to put an arrow between their eyes. Or, if we are going for no kills, in their knee. Or if that's STILL too brutal, get a blunt-head arrow and just KO them. A arrow can easily pierce chainmail, it should be able to knock someone for a loop when made blunt.

Oh, not what I was originally thinking for our guy, but this is actually rather tempting. So much fluff potential to go with the +5

[X]Plan: Alone till found

Yeah, this sounds perfect. We're just an orphan street rat, living our own way through the world, till a airbending kid decides to befriend us. We're probably rather pessimistic about our dream of world peace, but even if we think it can never happen it is still our dream.

I'm confused. Didn't we want to be a badass non-bender fighter? Would that not be our dream? I thought that was the entire point of the Yuyan archer plan.

What we, the readers, want to be, and what we, the character, want to be are two seperate things.

I never really intended bad-assery to be our characters goal, just something they ARE. They practice their fighting style and refine it to perfection, but not for the point of being the best. Not every fire-bender that practices their art is raring to get in a brawl, and not every Badass Normal wants to be able to punch anyone and everyone in the face.

I think I have a write in for the dream:

[] To become the symbol of unity: The image of the avatar may have been slandered in the last few centuries, but the deeds he has done for the world are enough for you to become someone just like him, even without the ability to bend the elements

[X] Plan: Crime and Dreams

I really like the Criminals and Whores background, am not sure exactly where I feel about the goal, I know I'm not a fan of "Bring Peace", that feels like a goal they should grow to maybe having but not having yet, its why I almost like "Become Rich" more, however, I think wanting to be a "Great Warrior" is a very reasonable goal for a 13 year old boy to want in this world and it works well with other ideas stated earlier.

I see. I made a mistake in the previous vote.
I hope you don't really feel that way, everyone has specific flavors and ideas even if we can agree on others, thats just kinda how these things work out.

[X] Plan: Crime and Dreams
-[X]Criminals and Whores
-[X]Become A Great Warrior!

[X] Plan: Crime and Dreams

Would like to see a underground crime aspect of avatar

The way I see it, it's our overall dream, but it's not our current goal. Like, of course we want to be rich, and being a great warrior would be awesome, but those are just things that'd be really nice to have not our deepest truest dream. What we truely want is peace, but we also know that it's impossible and that's there's nothing a brat like us could do to bring it to be. But, as the story goes on and we grow as a person, we become less and less pessimistic and begin to actually acknowledge our dream as anything more than just a impossible fantasy.
