Arming Homura
[X] Private discussion with Homura.
- [ X] Give her the arm back and ask if she could heal it back. Can you help with it?

You nod thoughtfully. That means you aren't actually interrupting any conversations, since one just ended! You could make everyone play a game - maybe Saya's better at Hide-and-Seek than the others! - or do something on your own ... but you should probably get this out of the way first. Dismissing your perfect composure (you have no idea how Remilia keeps it up so long!), you giggle and roll out of the chair, away from the table. "In that case, I'm going to steal you away for a little, okay?" You rush over to her and throw your arms around her waist as you give her an insistent smile.

"It would appear I'm being kidnapped," she says dully, and glances at Saya, who nods in return. As she gets up, you let her waist go and latch onto her arm. Agito shoots you a brief look of disgust.

"You three play nice," you say as the two of you reach the doorway, glancing back over your shoulder. Once you're out of sight of the trio, you sweep Homura into your arms and drift through the air to the main room. She tries to stop you, of course, but there's not much she can do with your arms wrapped around her torso. She sighs, and you can feel her getting irritated. You open the door to her rooms and float through, making sure to close the door behind you, then deposit Homura on the couch before dropping onto her lap and hugging her waist. "So, how's your arm?"

"... Is that all you wanted to ask me?" She tries to stand up, but you push down, holding her in place, and after a moment's struggle she deflates, admitting defeat. "... It hurts, when they make that thing work for me." She starts to giggle, almost unsettlingly. "It's like ... our bodies are dead, right? Just ... just hardware? So you'd think that just tacking on something else to use for a while would be fine, right? But it's not. It hurts, it hurts so much. I don't know if it's because I have to put a lot more magic into it to make it move right, or because I have to use Mami's ribbons to hold it steady, or because Madoka's magic is making the ... the 'nerves' more sensitive, or if it's just that it's mixing three different girls' magic and it's disrupting things because of it, but it hurts, okay?" You glance up at her grief-twisted face, and she shudders. "Is that what you wanted?" You sigh.

"I was actually thinking I could maybe help you with that," you begin, and she goes rigid, eyes fixed on you, "but you'd have to promise me that you won't do anything to Kyouko unless she attacks you." She blinks, then takes a breath.

"You ...?" Another shuddering breath, and she shakes her head. "Fine." You shake your own head - uncomfortable, really, but how else are you going to keep a grip on her without her realizing that you're doing it to keep her from using her magic to escape? If you just held onto her, she'd know, and she might be able to do something about it.

"No, Homura Akemi, promise me that you won't attack Kyouko Sakura, and you won't goad her in an attempt to work around your proscription. I want your word." She stares at you for a long moment, then nods slowly.

"Alright. I promise that I won't attack Kyouko." You nod, then pull your right hand away from her and draw out her arm. She stares at it, then snaps her head down to your wide grin.

"Hehe! Kyouko and Sayaka did that for their protection, not to attack you. You see, they were worried you'd try to attack Kyouko or kidnap Sayaka, and I'm not sure they really trust you, so they didn't tell you anything and made sure you couldn't do anything to them and threw you out. But Kyouko said I could talk to you about things, and then she gave that to me. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, yet, but I didn't want you to go and do something I wouldn't like, because you seem like the sort of person who would." Homura gingerly takes the arm from you and holds it in front of her, then cradles it against her body. "Can you heal it yourself? I don't know if there's anything else I can do, but I can at least hold onto it for you, if you don't want to risk anything happening to it ...." She actually smiles at you, and shakes her head.

"No, thank you ... I can't heal this by myself, not right away, but ...." She awkwardly rubs her eyes and shakes her head, then looks at you seriously. "And I wouldn't have attacked Kyouko. She's too pragmatic, and more of a help than a hindrance." You stare up at her expressionlessly, and she frowns.

"... You know, it's really strange. I don't know why she wouldn't have asked you for help, because your power is perfectly suited to fulfilling her goal." Perhaps she trusts Oriko too much, and Oriko doesn't like Homura? She wouldn't even have needed to tell Homura until later ....

"And what would her goal be?" You shrug.

"Once her little sister is capable of living without magical assistance, she wants to die so she won't finish turning into a Witch." Homura stares at you for a moment. Then the blood drains from her face and her eyes widen as she finishes processing what you said. "But I'm not sure what to do, and she's not sure if the Kyouko whose Soul Gem I have can help her, so we're going to meet again." Homura seems to have stopped paying attention. How rude.

Vita
Vita collapsed into the chair and gingerly stretched out her leg. She was very lucky to have not lost it, much less not have a major break. As it was, she wouldn't be walking on her left leg for at least a couple more weeks. She grumbled at the thought, and the dog that lay beside her glanced up at her. She leaned over to scratch his ears.
"You're a good boy, aren't you? Yeah, you know what's up." She sat back up and leaned back in the chair, looking down on the valley path that led up to the fortress. She had to admit, this place had a good feel and reminded her of the old wars. She picked up the journal that sat on the table and leafed through the pages. The earlier ones were full of her scratched-out meanderings, attempts to put her thoughts on paper and provide a record of what had happened to her when help finally came … or she became desperate enough to try an uncontrolled dimensional tear. She reached the first new page and thought about what had happened to her.
She'd fallen, uncontrolled, into the imaginary space. She saw the vampire – Flandre – manage to control herself a bit and dive to catch the young criminal mage, and she'd lost track of them by the time she fell into the portal. She woke up in the burned-out ruin of some town or small fort, and had tried to contact Hayate and the others, had tried to determine where she'd landed. Then the thugs had found her.
They were distinctly unimpressive, wearing fur and leather armor, armed with mundane swords and babbling some unknown tongue at her. She'd found out that her telepathy still worked, and found out that some people really were too dumb to live. Frighteningly, the mage they had with them had managed to fling an icicle that chilled her through her Armor, even if the attack hadn't actually harmed her. His own defenses hadn't proved as resilient, and she'd been momentarily stunned when she ended up killing him. Still, she'd killed before, before they met Hayate, and she knew what she was doing. The other thugs had already begun fleeing when the mage died, and she'd appropriated his pack – and his food – before picking the eastern road and leaving the ruin.
She wondered whether she'd made the right choice; certainly, a look at one of the maps in the fortress had shown her that she'd managed to go away from the nearer towns and taken the long road to a wilder area. And she'd definitely come to hate the snow. Fortunate for her that a passing hunter, seeing what seemed to be a child wandering alone, had let her stay at the fire for a few nights and share meals. Should she have used telepathy to talk to him? He might have been able to give her better directions … but he also might have forced her away. In any case, they had parted ways, and she'd kept heading east.
Near the road, across from a dilapidated fort, she'd met the big green guy. Pointy ears, sharp teeth, he looked like a tough guy … but he'd gotten into a fight with three other fighters and two weird-looking black dogs. He'd won, but was pretty badly hurt. She'd decided to take him with her, putting on her Armor and carrying him to the east. If she hadn't …. She'd found the city the hunter had tried directing her to and immediately skipped over it. She didn't like the looks of the place, and her instincts were pretty good most of the time. They'd stopped over on the slope of a nearby mountain, and he'd gone on getting sicker … but it seemed that he'd had a base in the area. She hadn't been able to learn much, thanks to his increasing delirium, but she felt obligated to help him, perhaps to repay the assistance she'd gotten from the hunter.
They'd found the guys friends. They'd also found an overgrown flying lizard that breathed cold and was threatening to kill his friends. She'd dropped him and rushed the dragon. It had been a big ugly beast, white and grey and spiked, and it hadn't liked her interruption at all. Its breath had chilled her to the bone, and the first few hits she'd gotten in barely seemed to faze it. The crossbows the fighters on the ground were using weren't doing even that much. Then she'd managed a crushing blow, overextending herself to shatter the bone around the dragon's eye, and that had gotten its attention, in addition to stunning it long enough for it to crash to the ground. It was a long way from dead, though, and had managed to do … something. It had roared something, something that hadn't sounded like a simple shriek of pain or anger, and then it was right next to her, above her, and it had grabbed her in its mouth, bit down, and then thrown her to the ground herself. She'd bounced twice, then managed to land on her feet, even if the pain in her leg had been nearly unbearable. But with her still standing, and the crossbows gaining a weak spot to target, the beast had had enough and flown off. And she'd passed out.
That had been four or five days ago, now. Or was it a week? She shook her head to clear it. "… Five days. Man, I'm getting old. Can't fight an overgrown lizard and can't remember how many days I've been here." She snorted disparagingly, then looked at the clipped, concise sentences that filled less than two pages. She shook her head again and scratched them out. No one else was going to see this, so she might as well have some fun.
"Lieutenant's log, date unknown. I've been here a week, and I'm starving. May have to eat the dog." She looked down at her furred companion and grinned. "Sorry, but that's the way it goes." She turned back to the journal. "Also, make a throne for Hayate out of dragon bones. And maybe one for Caro, too."

Prisma Ilya would be a bit difficult for Flan to get her fix of megaviolence though, at least unless she shows up in the Miyuverse, and of the shinies to pick up, the Kaleidosticks won't be very happy to cooperate.

Also Rin and Luvia would have a life expectancy of about 10 minutes unless they managed some really fancy trick.

what about original fate/stay night verse?
Lancer, Caster, and Gilgamesh are the biggest concerns I think there.
Saber can be dangerous to us, but with our experience in danmaku, excaliblasts can be dodged, and invisible air will only be a little more difficult. Rider will be the least dangerous, and Berserker just has strength. We still can't underestimate them, but Lancer, Caster, and Gil are the worst matches for us. Lancer gas experience with the unkillable, and I doubt we are on the same tier as Scathach was. Caster's abilities in magecraft are better summed up as what can't she do, and Gilgamesh is the King.
Thing is, as a vampire we are the predators of humanity. But, as heroes, they are our predators. FSN should wait until we could be called a hero as well.

If we don't give Caster time to prepare or realize what we are (and eliminate her in the first encounter), she's pretty much a typical danmaku-style fight. I agree that Gil would definitely be a problem; might add Archer to the list as well (especially since he lacks Gil's arrogance).

I'm not worried about her in direct combat, at least for short periods of time. The problem is, she could do things like distill sunlight for use at night, or curse us with redeath, or convince Lancer, "I'm specifically aspected toward killing monsters", after us.

I'm assuming the backup question here refers to Saya?
Who knows we could end up in Prisma Illya or Bloodborne or any number of other places.
Haha. You have a better chance of seeing a GreeboxChen omake designated as Canon than you do of entering Prisma Illya.

... might add Archer to the list as well (especially since he lacks Gil's arrogance).
As was pointed out in a thread over on SB, despite not being a close-combat-aspected Servant, and despite being out-statted, he still killed Berserker a half-dozen times. Underestimating Archer is never a good idea.

You stay where you are for a few seconds, but Homura seems to be out of it. You pick yourself up and hop off the couch to stand in front of Homura. Then you sigh, because she still doesn't react. You really don't understand why it's having such an effect on her, but it doesn't really matter. Certainly, if she does try something despite her promise, you know several ways to punish her. She won't even be able to prepare anything against you if it does become necessary. You sketch a nod to the unresponsive girl and leave the room, closing the door behind you.

You find the others in the kitchen, Lutecia and Saya sitting on a couple of stools while Agito stands at the stove. Lutecia sees you and raises a hand, so you can't surprise her, so you simply hop up on a counter next to her and sit there. Saya frowns and Agito sighs; you stick your tongue out in response.

"Hey, Lutecia, have you been thinking about getting to the imaginary space?" She looks down unhappily before shaking her head minutely.

"It's a problem of power and knowledge," Agito says, and you and Saya both look at her. "There are spells that can rip a hole to imaginary space that Lutecia could cast, but we don't know how to do any of them, so that's a bust. And we know about cartridges, but making them well enough to store enough mana to be relevant would be difficult, probably expensive, and dangerous, because if you make it wrong and fill it too much, it explodes." Lutecia nods.

"But … you have a Device, and your own magic powers it, right?" You nod, and she looks hopefully at you. "Could I see if your magic is compatible enough for me to use?" You think for a moment, then materialize a bullet for her, and she shakes her head. "No, I … can you release power the same way you do to power your Device?" You frown and dismiss the bullet, then look around the kitchen.

"Yes, but you have to be careful; it's … kind of dangerous." She nods firmly, and you hop off the counter and float to the clear area just inside the door. Agito watches you warily, and Saya stares at you with a mixture of awe and fear. You take a deep breath, then begin radiating power. You try to keep it weak, like when you're warming blood, but extend the range a bit, so Lutecia can see it more easily, and the air around you begins glowing red. Saya gasps and Lutecia steps forward, staring at the air around you, then stretches out an arm. She does … something … that seems to suck in the power around her hand, but then the release rate flickers and surges. Lutecia grunts in pain and stumbles back, and you can see that the glove on her hand is burned and torn. Agito hurls herself at the magician and makes sure she's okay while you stop the radiation and drop to the floor, but when you take a step forward, she turns on you.

"You idiot! What the hell was that for? Why didn't you gi-!" She starts to jab a finger at you, and you decide you've had more than you're willing to take from the jumped-up fairy. You lunge forward and your hand clamps over her face, your fingers gripping the fleshy parts just under her eyes and your palm covering her mouth, and you squeeze until you hear something grinding.

"Agito~" you begin, your voice sickly sweet. "You seem to be taking advantage of my kindness. I've been letting you get away with quite a lot of rudeness, because you're stupid and you're Lutecia's familiar, but my patience is not limitless. If you continue to act in this manner, I will dispose of you and find Lutecia someone who can meaningfully assist her. Understand?" She whimpers, and you take it for an affirmative, shoving her to the ground by Lutecia. You can see the marks on her face from your fingers, then you take a breath to calm yourself and hurry over to Lutecia before she can move toward the fallen fairy. "Lutecia, let me see your hand." She freezes, then gingerly extends her hand, and you grasp her forearm gently. Fortunately, she seems to have managed to get a barrier of some kind up, because her hand is red, but otherwise seems to be unharmed. You release her arm, nodding. "I did tell you to be careful, Lutecia - it wouldn't have been hard for you to lose the hand," you tell her sternly, and she nods before looking over at Agito. You sigh and stand back up, and she scuttles over, putting her undamaged hand near the fairy's face. You hop back onto the counter to wait for her to finish.

"Umm …." You look over at Saya. You'd almost forgotten the woman was there; she's pale and shaking, but she's not in any danger, and you wait for her to continue. "Um, what was that … all about?" You sigh.

"Lutecia's a mage, so she can use magic to let us get to a place that lets us get back to our homes." She blinks, then her eyes widen a bit more.

"You … you all aren't from Earth?" You scoff.

"I am - I'm from Schneeberg." She stares at you, uncomprehending. "Hesse? Bavaria? … Germany?" She finally shows some understanding, and you nod happily. "Of course, I'm not from this world's Schneeberg, not unless things are a lot stranger than I think." She screws her eyes shut and looks down at the floor. You turn back to Lutecia, who is helping an unsteady Agito to her feet. Lutecia frowns at you and seems to want to say something. "So, can you use it?" She blinks, confused, and you deflate. "My power. Can you use the power I generate in your magic?" She sighs and finishes helping Agito.

"… No. Or, I can, but it takes more energy to convert and hold your power than it gets in return." She bows her head. "I apologize." You scowl.

"Well, do you know any ceremonial or ritual magic? Those usually have ways to make up for deficiencies in power, right?" She wilts and lowers her head again. Hmm … do you actually know more than she does? "Well, how about this? If I show you a set of magic symbols and tell you what the set does, do you think you can either use it as is, or else adapt it to a style you can use?" She looks up at you, but she does seem to think it over. She opens her mouth to say something, then closes it and places her hand on Agito's shoulder. After a moment, she looks back at you.

"We might be able to do something with it, yes," she says. You don't miss the emphasis in her quiet voice, but it's not really relevant. So long as Agito knows her place.

"Okay, that's good. I'll be right back!" You dash off to your room to get the calligraphy set. You really should do the best job you can if you're going to do it at all. You grab the case and hurry back to the kitchen. You're glad that Remilia was still trying to teach you magic when she showed you this, and that she used the same glyphs the last time she prepared it …. You pull out a couple sheets of paper, the brush and the ink, then appropriate the stool Saya stopped using when she went to tend the stove.

"I … I thought you didn't know any magic," Agito manages. She's still pale, but Lutecia has her arms held protectively around the fairy.

"I can't do magic, but I know some, because my sister thought I should do it. Of course, I never could, and eventually even she gave up, but I still know a lot. Now, quiet please - I want to make sure I get this right." You do your best to tune out errant and get to work. Once you finish the first sheet, you try to blank your mind of it and take out the second sheet, recreating the glyphs once again. They match well enough that they should both be capable of recreating the effect, and look up for Lutecia. You don't see anyone, but you hear footsteps behind you, and turn to see Lutecia walk into the kitchen.

"… I wanted Agito to get some rest, so she's sleeping now," she says, and you nod, gesturing for her to look over the sheet with you. She hesitates, then takes a deep breath and sits on the other stool. She frowns when she sees the diagram.

"I think it's correct," you tell her honestly, "but it's been … a couple centuries, I think, since the last time I saw Remilia use it. Austerlitz. Big battle, not much fun because we were just spectators. Anyway … so the first bit is the border. You can actually do it on a map, but it really should be a specially-prepared map that conforms to the reality of the land. You can also put the magic in the ground itself, but that's really only useful for long-term applications, where you're planning on gathering energy over a long period of time. Properly done, at least the way I was told, you should look over the area you want to use, and tell the magic what part of the area it's going to affect. But that's supposed to take more energy than the map, so …." You shrug, but Lutecia nods in understanding. Oh, good. "Okay, the other important part is these glyphs. They tell the magic what it's going to draw the energy from -" you point to one set of glyphs, then another, "- and where it's going to store it. As far as I remember, the description can be as broad or narrow as you want, and this set is actually pretty much equivalent to 'the container that the user designates,' so if you use a written version, you can write in whatever you want; if you use the spell directly, though, you have to keep the location in mind, or else it just draws the energy out of the blood and sends it into the air." She frowns and looks up at you, and you shrug. "The spell draws usable energy from blood spilled on the ground within the area determined. Anyway, these sets determine conditionals - if you want the spell to only start drawing energy when you activate it or to activate at a certain time or event, or if you want it to automatically shut off for whatever reason. These other sets -" you point to the remaining lines of glyphs, "- aren't important for our purposes. You can use them to try and discriminate targets, but that takes more energy to make it work. They can also be used to fuel active spells directly, or to automatically start another spell or effect, but since the plan is to go for a brute-force assault on the dimensional barrier, just storing the energy should be good, right?" She nods slowly, and you smile and pass the paper over to her, then give her a hug. She gives you an odd look, and you smile. "If you have any questions about it, come find me, okay?" She nods and takes the paper, then climbs off the stool and bows before leaving.

Well, that should give her some pointers, at least. But now what ...?
