Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

I'm not against showing it to him, but he was a Crusader from a completely different crusade, one that came thousands of years after the one where this sword saw battle.

He also left service as a Crusader, as did many of his fellow mercs. I doubt he would be terribly enthusiastic about signing back up or placing himself under church authority.
Fair enough.

[X] Give it to the Church of Iomedae, you've got leads enough to wealth and power to last you lifetimes

I'm not giving that sword away for some money we don't need and some nebulous goodwill.

[X] Keep it, maybe the Last Azlanti will be of some more use to his descendants even in death. If he was worthy of the title he'd wish for no less

[X] Plan: Before she escapes with her loot!

I'm just interested in Azlanti stuff in general.

No one in our party can use it to its full potential and while it is very valuable even as a simple +2 Great sword, we can probably earn some serious favor with the church if we give it to them, maybe even a nice reward.
This sword, by happenstance and the manner of our triumph, contains the thaumic echo of a dead god. There is much that might be learned from it about the nature of reality, and perhaps the fate of Aroden."
I want to keep to poke later tbh. Maybe it'll explode and give someone power? :p
'Learned about the nature of reality' sounds like there's a chance of deep arcane or divine lore (abilities), with a slim chance of mythic stuff; though I'd doubt it.

At the very least we'd get some spiffy worldbuilding when we get a narrative moment to poke it.

@DragonParadox before Sylestrix departs again, can we have a chance to try and trade some of her Horde? I'd have to check what we didn't buy, but I'd love to swap some gems and that sorcerer's robe for some of what she had left.

General question about Mythic: Can Mina use her Wild Arcana ability (one Mythic Power point) to cast Mythic Heroism (a second Mythic Power point), or does she need to have regular Heroism prepared and available to be able to cast it as Mythic Heroism?

I ask because if she can cast Mythic Heroism right now, I'd like to have a diplo-buffed Sirim ask Sylestrix if we can do a fully buffed investigation on that Mind Core (presumably offering to share what we learn with her).

If she does agree it would have to be after our next long rest however, since we the tea we need to use to be able to reroll that check needs to be drank before sleeping.

  1. Sure, you can try to offer her money (she is not interested in Ogre leavings, not even the sword)
  2. Not saying anything that says the abilities cannot combine, so yeah you should be able to do that if you are willing to blow two surges

Sylestrix is a Dragon. She's smart and knowledgeable, and probably has Detect Magic as a spell and Spellcraft as a skill, so it would be suspicious if Sirim suddenly lights up with new auras after Mina casts a powerful spell or two, then starts trying to wheedle access to the treasure she guards most closely.

In this case, I would rather just ask to examine it and hope for the best.

That's a fair point. I would like to add that DP has stated that Hexes are subtle. Fortune is especially difficult to notice. I think that I'd be ok risking an otherwise unbuffed diplo check.
3x Launchers: 40 Points Each
2x Djezet-Skins: 180 Points Each
1x Shining Wayfinders: 130 Points Each
2x Vials of Efficacious Medicine: 55 Points Each
3x Spectacles of Constant Discern Shapechanger: 60 Points Each
1x Spectacles of Constant Detect Fiendish Presence: 45 Points Each
4x Muleback Cords (Slotless): Strength score is 8 higher than normal when determining carrying capacity: 25 Points Each
1x Saccadic Prism Spectacles: 100 Points
Sorry if this is jumping ahead of what you intended to post next update DP, but I'd like to avoid the risk of Sylestrix flying away before we cover this.
I'm assuming that we brought her horde with us, since otherwise it would have been left unguarded?

[X] Keep it, maybe the Last Azlanti will be of some more use to his descendants even in death. If he was worthy of the title he'd wish for no less
[X] Plan: Before she escapes with her loot!
-[X] Ask Sylestrix if she would be willing to exchange some more of her horde for items of equivalent value.
--[X] Trade to be finalised with playerbase/depends on what she's offering, but I want that Prism, at least one set of Cords, and maybe a Djezet-Skin for the diplo boost on Mina. We can offer gems and the sorcerer's robe we took from the fey lord.
-[X] Ask Sylestrix if she would be willing to allow us to do a fully-buffed investigation of the Mind-Core, and we shall share all we learn of it with her in return - mention that the tea we need to use requires a long rest before re-attempting the check. Mina uses her Fortune Hex on Sirim for this request.
-[X] Before Sirim tries to persuade Sylestrix about the Mind-Core, Pepper changes his Racial Bonus (Full round action) to Diplomacy, for a total of +8 -2 (cha) = +6 and attempts to Aid Another Sirim (DC 15) (But only if Pepper has not already changed his bonus today)
-[X] Also let her know that a tribe of Kobolds are looking to meet her, a survivor of a scouting band killed by these ogres is at the caravan and it was he who warned us of these foes, and we told him we'd let her know about the tribe. (This is not to try and convince her of anything in particular, just something that she might like to know - though it is worded to paint the kobolods in a good light.)

Edit: @DragonParadox regarding the Vial of Efficacious Medicine, would the bouns to alchemical skill checks apply to the tea we need to use to attempt the Mind Core investigation? I don't know if it counts as a 'remedy'.
This bulbous bottle is crafted of smoked glass and causes any liquid contained within to take on a significantly darker cast and twinkle with motes of beautiful white light. A vial of efficacious medicine can hold a single dose of an alchemical remedy, such as antitoxin or antiplague. Loading a remedy into the vial is a standard action that provokes attacks of opportunity. When an alchemical remedy is imbibed or applied from the vial, any alchemical bonus it grants on saving throws or checks or to AC or CMD increases by 2. Treat this increase as an enhancement bonus. In addition, the user is healed of 1d8+5 points of damage. A vial of efficacious medicine can be used up to three times per day.

Can't think of what else we'd need, but I do want to try our hand at the core.
...shouldn't she already know what it is?

You would have to ask her. After the battle Kori estimates it's a lot less likely she would be offended even if she ends up saying no. This is all assuming she knows herself, she is quite young and may have just been told to fetch the thing back without being told why.

I'm hoping that she doesn't know, and her curiosity will match mine- Kori's. :p

Also, @ thread: just for for funsies. Kori has to be careful about saying honest nice things to people, 'cuz curse.
But doing nice things is safe. And he just got access to (limited) phenomenal cosmic power.

If we do swing by Sylestrix's tower, what do ya'll think about Kori and Sirim using their Mythic Power to cast the following spells to do some minor repairs? (Buffed and/or Fortune) Cob can direct with his Engineering skill (Sirim using an adjustable illusion to display an image of the design, so Kori can see what Cob has in mind?) ;) :

Sirim generates fresh stone for Kori to shape, 180 cubic feet of it (at CL 6 to 8) (as a conjuration spell, a casting will cost two Mythic Power points).
School conjuration (creation) [earth]; Level druid 1, sorcerer/wizard 1
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a handful of earth or stone)
EFFECT
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect a low wall 10 feet long per 3 levels (minimum 10 feet) (S)
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no
DESCRIPTION
You create a low wall or other simple structure of packed earth or loose stone measuring 3 feet thick, 3 feet tall, and 10 feet long per 3 caster levels you possess (minimum 10 feet). Each square of the structure can appear only in unoccupied spaces atop earthen or stone surfaces able to support it.
Kori can shape up to 16 18 (due to CL being increased by 2) cubic feet per casting - up to 90 total, which should be enough to do some repairs in the worst places imo
Stone Shape
School transmutation [earth]; Level cleric/oracle 3, druid 3, shaman 3, sorcerer/wizard 4; Domain artifice 3, earth 3; Elemental School earth 4
CASTING

Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M/DF (soft clay)
EFFECT

Range touch
Target stone or stone object touched, up to 10 cu. ft. + 1 cu. ft./level
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance no

DESCRIPTION
You can form an existing piece of stone into any shape that suits your purpose. While it's possible to make crude coffers, doors, and so forth with stone shape, fine detail isn't possible. There is a 30% chance that any shape including moving parts simply doesn't work.

It's honestly pretty wild that she is willing to trade her hoard out like this period.

On the other hand we have been on her side for newrly every fight she got into since coming to Golarion.

I also hope if she doesn't level up she is at least well compensated for her efforts.

And rough start or not I do like her.

Adding this into my plan:
Before Sirim tries to persuade Sylestrix about the Mind-Core, Pepper changes his Racial Bonus (Full round action) to Diplomacy, for a total of +8 -2 (cha) = +6 and attempts to Aid Another, Sirim (DC 15)

I don't think that Pepper changed his skill today? If he did then I'll remove the Aid Another attempt

Edit: I'm having so much fun thinking of how to use (up to five) castings of any level 3 witch/wizard/oracle spell to bypass physical obstacles.
Mostly by using Cob-directed Stone Shape to build past them.

Is there a ravine or river? Build a bridge (Buffed Engineering checks are used to ensure it can support the weight/is safe).

Is the gap too large for 90 cubic foot of stone (or is stone too weak)? Does the caravan need to go up a short but very steep hill or even a full cliff-face?

Enter The Toad.
Warty, bringer of joy and wonder, has the slime ability.
With that and some ropes, a well shaped and strong stone platform/crate can be placed on his back and Mina can Wild Arcana Fly onto him, for 8 minutes a pop.

He can ferry whole groups of people and animals and adamantine eggs at once, provided the stone crate is shaped to be fully in contact with his back.

So lets talk carry weight:

Warty is a Large Magical Beast; Quadruped with a strength of 20. According to d20pfsrd, that put his carrying capacity at:
Light: 133 or less. Medium is 134-266. Heavy is 267-400.
Large Quadruped triples those to:
399, 400-798, 801-1200.
-----
Now I couldn't find any way to make Warty bigger - except for a specific magic collar, but we can still add magic:

Muleback Cords (+8 to Str for Carrying Capacity purposes) is based on the Bulls Strength Spell, and brings Warty to an effective Str 28. And that's then tripled for a Large Quadraped:
3600, 3603-7200, 7203-10800.

And then we cast Aunt Haul: The target's carrying capacity triples:

Light Load: 10800 lbs, or less
Medium Load: 10809 lbs - 21600 lbs
Heavy Load: 21609 lbs to 32400 lbs.

I dunno if he needs to make flight checks to move up and down with the fly spell, but I'll hand wave that away with "apply many buffs to fly skill"
----
32400 lbs is just over 14695 kg.

The fly spell does need checks from what I recall, though of course you can make them untrained.
Now I'm imaging a flying Warty, lol.

Looking at the Fly skill page, assuming Warty was to try and fly from the bottom of a cliff to the top, he could avoid the need to make checks:
You generally need only make a Fly check when you are attempting a complex maneuver. Without making a check, a flying creature can remain flying at the end of its turn so long as it moves a distance greater than half its speed. It can also turn up to 45 degrees by sacrificing 5 feet of movement, can rise at half speed at an angle of 45 degrees1, and can descend at any angle at normal speed.

Note that these restrictions only apply to movement taken during your current turn. At the beginning of the next turn, you can move in a different direction than you did the previous turn without making a check. Taking any action that violates these rules requires a Fly check. The difficulty of these maneuvers varies depending upon the maneuver you are attempting, as noted on the following chart.
Let's assume there isn't a strong wind, then this reads to me that Warty can just slowly spiral upwards and land at the top of the cliff for people to exit and unload the crate?

If crossbow bolts count as metal:
And we know we're up against (shadow) demons ahead of time:

Give (invisible) Mina the Cloak of The Hedge Mage.
She uses True Strike on herself.
She shoots at the demon with a crossbow.
----
Assuming the demon does not teleport away, but instead uses Deeper Darkness, Sirim or Kori use the Daylight spell via Mythic Power before Mina's next turn.

She uses this Hex on the demon.

Abeyance (Blood Hex)
You can disrupt your opponent's connection to its own magical power.

Prerequisite(s): Int 13, Spellcraft 5 ranks, Use Magic Device 1 rank.

Benefit(s): As a standard action, you can drain the innate magical ability of a creature you've dealt damage to with a metal weapon since the beginning of your last turn. That creature must succeed at a Will save or be unable to access any spell-like abilities it can use more than once per day, until it is healed of all hit point damage, or up to a maximum duration of 1 minute.

Special: If a shaman or witch uses this blood hex, the target is unable to use any of its spell-like abilities for the hex's duration
----
Fun fact: With her Mythic ability, there is no roll for the first turn of the Hex. The save attemp happens at the start of Mina's next turn.

That means that if the Demon is still alive after a few hits, before Mina's turn comes round again, someone should use Shadow Enchantment to cast Ill Omen on the demon, so it is more likely to fail its save.
----
That or hit it with slumber?
