[X] I think that people have to want to be better before you can really help them. Otherwise they either end up resenting you or rejecting your help out of hand.

One day I will participate in one of your quests, Rabbit.
Maybe even this one. Gotta sit this vote out, don't really feel like discussing philosophy with an ancient Chinese vampire or some shit.

Also, my endgame is Queen Medb asking the Holy Grail for two wedding rings while the Ruler stands on the sidelines, peeks through her hands and blushes furiously. Just so you know. :V

What do you mean one day. Don't you know? You're here forever

I hope I'm not too late!!!

Foregone Conclusion
[] I think that people have to want to be better before you can really help them. Otherwise they either end up resenting you or rejecting your help out of hand.

You were taken by surprise by her question. You didn't know what she was on about but you felt that answering her correctly would be for the better. So you took it seriously. You considered her words for a moment and noted that they were weighted.

It was almost like she was testing you for some reason. You didn't point this out but you did make note of it and only made you want to give her a good answer. Hinako had be studying you since you first met and this may just decide how he would treat you in the long run. You turned to face her and gave her your reply.

"I think that people have to want to be better before you can really help them," you answered in a firm and clear tone, "Otherwise they either end up resenting you or rejecting your help out of hand."

"Is... That so?" Hinako murmured as she seemed surprised by your words.

"Humans are difficult creatures. No, that's wrong. People are complicated and just being ready to help people be better isn't enough. It's a two way street, really where recovery could only be grasped by working together," you continued as you held up a hand, "Otherwise it'll just turn sour. Being pitied and sympathized with, it's often a bad feeling. It makes one feel worthless and helpless. That's where the resentment comes from and along that, rejection too."

"So you would only help those that would accept you then?" Hinako frowned as she leaned on the desk behind her.

"Offering someone a helping hand is never bad. If they say no, then fine. It's all right. You can try again once, twice... But don't force it," you said as you nodded your head, "Some people want to face their problems head on... While others indulge in their own despair. There's really so much we can do but if we do good no matter how small it may be, perhaps we can make things better for everyone."

"Making things better for people... It sounds stupid. People won't be able to do it. They're selfish and hateful. It seems impossible," Hinako disagreed as she shook her head.

"That's just how things are. Forcing Good is bad and neglecting Evil is bad also. It may seem cowardly to take the gray area but I did admit it, I am a coward at heart," you told her as you met her gaze, "Where there's light, there's dark. If I were to choose either of your choices given that would be neglecting the other. And too much of one thing is never good."

"How ironic... How deeply ironic," Hinako sighed as she shook her head, "You sound like a Chinese philosopher... But philosophers tend to break when you put them and their teachings to the test. Their lofty ideals and views crumble in the fear of death. They're just a bunch of hypocrites. Are you the same?"

"Maybe? Dying doesn't sound good. If anything, I don't really have the capacity for a big philosophical discussion," you replied with a low chuckle, "I'm dumb but I'm mostly just saying what comes to mind."

"How ironic... It's almost like a bad joke..." Hinako breathed as she stared at you.

"Hah! That'll make you think twice from asking me those stuff!" You laughed as you crossed your arms. You lightened up before smiling her way, "What about you, Hinako? I never got to ask. Do you want to be better yourself? Maybe I can help you work out that personality of yours. We can start as friends."

Hinako's eyes widened before giving you a sour look, "Don't be ridiculous. You can't even begin to explain this magic thing without putting my life in danger."

"Eeh? Maybe we can strike a new friendship after I erase your memories!" You said as you leaned close.

"You just said something ridiculously unethical there," Hinako said as she put her hand on your face and gently pushed you back.

That was when you noticed the Runes of the Druid glow crimson, making you and Hinako tense up as he raised his head. There was a surge of prana that thundered through the police station before shattering the Druid's runes. He was sent staggering back as the back flow of Magical Energy returned to him in full force.

It was enough to make your senses blur before sending the Druid down his knees. You ran to his side with a worried look.

"Hey! What happened?!" You asked only to find his eyes blown out and his mouth bubble with blood.

The Druid's body faded as you touched the ground to feel the protection of the station fade away fast. You let out a shaky breath while Hinako watched you from where she was.

"Not good," you growled as you looked down your phone and found that there was still no message from Emiya. This is bad. The power went out and darkness filled your vision save for the light coming from the window behind Hinako.

This is really, really, really bad.

You turned to Hinako and grabbed her hand, "We gotta go. I'll go tell the cops to slow down whatever's coming."

"An enemy?" Hinako frowned as the two of you stepped out of the Chief's office.

"Probably. We have to buy time. I'll use a Command Seal to bring Rider here," you said before you stopped.

Your senses were screaming at you. Looking up ahead you could see the outline of a person. You could identify the figure as a tall man dressed in a crisp dark suit. You drew your gun and aimed it before your eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness.

"Mr... Cedric?" You wondered as you frowned.

The tall dark skinned man was fixing his gloves as he stepped into view underneath the emergency lights. Hans' bodyguard?

"Luctworth's defective Doll... Greetings. Unfortunately I cannot stay for long. I have no quarry with you at the moment," he then raised one of his gloved hands and pointed at Hinako, "You're harboring the Master of Caster. My employer has called for her disposal."

You blinked before you turned to see Hinako move and kick the back of your knee before grabbing your arm. She twisted it to make you drop your gun before she slammed you into the wall. You felt sharp claws caress your throat before you froze.

What?

"Hina..?" You rasped as Hinako kept you in place.

"Let the Doll go," Cedric barked as circles of light flared behind him.

"My mission isn't to kill you, Brie," Hinako said as she kept one eye on the Magus by her side, "Your life won't be in danger if you stay put."

"I've warned you," Cedric said with a narrowed look.

"Wait! Don't! Hinako... Is it true?" You asked as you glanced behind you.

"I've been watching you for a long time... Judging you," Hinako admitted as she narrowed her gaze, "If your truly value your life, you'll stay put. I'll think of something."

Was she going to help you?

"Miss Brie, don't be deceived. She's the same woman behind Caster and the Apostle's rampage through the city. Do not trust her words," Cedric said with a firm tone, the glowing blue lights behind him primed and aimed for Hinako.

Foregone Conclusion
[] Do as Hinako says and hope she has a plan on getting out of here. You'll trust her for now.
[] She has your arm. You can break free if you manifested your shield. Start chanting and break free, give Cedric a clear shot on her.
[] Breathe in and scream. "SAVE ME, RIDER!" (Cost: 1 Command Seal)
[] Write in...

I mean. The classic trick, it's just instead of the dumbass savior she got herself the self-proclaimed coward instead.

[] Channel your inner Rider
-[] Make teary eyes and look at her. "I thought we were friends, Hinako-chan."
-[] Or is that it? Is it why she's holding you so tightly? Does she want to be more than friends?
-[] Lean in as if to smooch her.

[X] She has your arm. You can break free if you manifested your shield. Start chanting and break free, give Cedric a clear shot on her.

There's fuckery going on, and the very first thing I want to do is not be in the line of fire or be a hostage. Whatever happens to either of them in the meantime is not a primary concern.

[X] Breathe in and scream. "SAVE ME, RIDER!"

It's like "If it breathes, its a thot", but instead it goes something like "if it sucks blood, its gonna stab us in the gut and make us watch as it sips on the viscera still stuck in our heart chambers".

[X] Do as Hinako says and hope she has a plan on getting out of here. You'll trust her for now.
-[X] Telepathically tell Medb (and relay to Shirou) what's going on.

Leap of faith, then. Let's go Hinako-chan!

thanks Emiya, Very Cool™

Friends don't do what she just did. Ergo, she is not our friend. Plus, as Casters master, she is indirectly responsible for all the crap Caster has been doing.

It sounds very much like she and Caster had a falling out. It also sounds like my write-in worked,!

I'm extending the benefit of the doubt. She's had ample time to kill us and has chosen to observe instead.

Uh. Command seals. If she hasn't used them to control Caster, she is indirectly giving her approval towards Caster.

Yeah, but Caster never actually wanted us dead, Caster's faction was trying to capture us. From what I can tell anyways.

She can take it :V

Command seals have inherent limitations, and also ours haven't been tingling around her, she may well have lost her command seals, and if anyone can take their master's command seals, it would be caster.

Reading it again, I'm beginning to think that it's just possible that she's willing to ally with us once we both get out of this alive. Maybe that's just me desperately wanting to see team Not Actually Human, but beyond the fact that she's currently using us as a hostage, she really doesn't seem hostile.

You, uh, sure about that?
The stall behind you opened to reveal a girl with long brown hair. She tucked her book away before fixing up her glasses as she walked. You finished up your stuff before the other girl left.

You turned and saw that the door had just closed. You looked down the ground and picked up a piece of paper. You raised an eyebrow once you recognized it as a card that Hans gave you.

The throbbing of your command seals faded as you let out a breath. Someone's having dinner too.
Hinako reached out and grabbed your left hand. You tensed in surprise before she asked you a question, "Tell me. What's going on? Why is this happening? Who is that woman and were my companions killed?"

You flinched at her questions before you felt your command seals sting for a moment. Or... Did it? You're not sure either way but the girl seemed to be starting to panic.
Because if anyone can hide their master's command seals, it would be Caster. The first quote I posted isn't confirmed to be her, but the description is similar. The second is explicitly her.

Also, Caster was saved by a command seal earlier in the story. So, yeah.

She's not hugely hostile to us, sure, but are you forgetting all the horrible things Caster and her Dead Apostle posse are doing?

Aside from the obviously false parts of Hinako's story, I wanna know how much was true or half-true. Emiya did find her locked up in the castle after all and if Caster is suddenly hiding Hinako's command seals after the few hours between the restaurant and Emiya's break in then that kinda makes it look like the whole thing was a set up which seems a bit too far fetched to me. Also back when Brie met Hans, she couldnt even see if he had command seals but her's still reacted strongly to him. If we go along with Hinako for now, we'll be able to ask her about what's going on and judge then.

Why is that even remotely far-fetched? If we assume that it was her in the restaurant, clearly she wasn't a prisoner, thus making this entire situation WAY more likely to be a setup. Moreover, we clearly reacted to something about command seals after recapturing her.
If we go along with Hinako for now, we'll be able to ask her about what's going on and judge then.
We also will be clearly unable to believe a word she says. We've already been proven to be unable to discern her lies from truth.

Admittedly, I'm basing the far fetched part on the probably misguided assumption that if Brie can notice she's being spied on, then Saber and Emiya should be able to notice if they're being spied on in their own base and the set up would basically rely on knowing what Emiya would do and when he would do it. And Brie's command seal reaction was so weak that she completely dismissed it, so that could mean multiple different things at the moment.

We also will be clearly unable to believe a word she says. We've already been proven to be unable to discern her lies from truth.

And if Medb and Emiya can get to Brie I'm hoping they could be a second and third opinion. Also the other options are to waste a command seal or to trust a different enemy. I will admit that trusting Hinako is basically the 'leap of faith' option though so it really just comes down to which option you decide is the least bad.

Occam's Razor. It is more likely that Caster was able to set up an observation of Saber and Emiya than Caster deciding, just at that very moment, to genuinely betray and capture her master. The timing is too convenient, to the point of being outright contrived otherwise. Also, it's possible that Shirou and Saber did notice an observation of their apartment. It's not like we had his PoV.

And Brie's command seal reaction was so weak that she completely dismissed it, so that could mean multiple different things at the moment.
And this feels like grasping at straws, especially since we know that Caster's master had used command seals at least once to save Caster.

We can trust Cedric to not want harm to us, because Hans would rather we live. What we should not do is make an enemy out of someone who is only an opponent so far (Hans).

Caster's master has proven herself to be the kind of person we don't want to ally with. Would you have allied with Assassin and Olga? The same people who periodically sacrificed people to their bounded field and as bait? Caster and her master are worse.

The chances that Hinako let herself get locked up for the express purpose of getting "rescued" by Shirou are...fairly slim. She'd have had to know exactly when he was coming, among other things. We also know that she's been watching us to judge our character, and it sounds like she's decided she likes us. I'm feeling like she was being coerced somehow, if she was actually in control at all.

The point I'm making us that I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt because there's enough that doesn't add up if she's the one who ordered all that.
