[] Talk to Medb. She should be outside.
You can break the news to the others tomorrow. For now you need to rest up...
At least that was what you thought first.
Getting off your bed, you slipped into your boots before taking your jacket. You put it on and slowly moved to the door. Peeking out you noticed that Jeanne was cooking something in the kitchen while talking to Scathach in the other room. You decided not to leave that way.
Holding your aching side, you moved to the window and opened it slowly. The winter chill caressed your skin as you shivered. You tried not to let it get to you as you stepped out.
Snow crunched beneath your boots before you slowly shut the window. That should delay the inevitable. You slowly walked around the cabin and moved your way to the front. Medb wasn't there. You slowly felt for her presence and found it at the foot of the hill where the cabin was, right in front of the frozen lake.
You decided to move there. Trudging through the snow, you left quite the trail behind you. Medb did too and you easily tracked her down. You found her standing by the lake on her own, wrapped in her fluffy cloak while staring at the empty whiteness.
The moon hung low tonight and the lack of city lights allowed you a good view of the stars. You walked behind her until you stood by her side. Medb blinked before turning to notice you as you smiled her way.
She stared at you before sighing, "You should be sleeping, dummy."
"Well I was. But I couldn't sleep. This thing is hurting me too much," you told her as you looked down your stomach.
Medb turned her gaze down and then looked ahead, "Then you should get some rest. It'll stop hurting soon."
"What's up with you, buddy? Feeling down?" You asked her with a smirk.
"I wasn't able to do anything. That's what I feel," Rider quickly said as she turned her gaze to you, "Happy?"
You were taken aback by this before you scratched your face, "Well, it's not like we could have done much. Isn't that normal? Especially when faced with that sort of thing... What's the matter?"
"He didn't even look at me," Rider murmured as she stared at the lake, "All that time, he was focused on Scathach or Ruler. Not once he looked at me. It was as if I wasn't even worth his time... I... I couldn't even move. It was... Scary."
You looked at how she crouched down and buried her face in her knees. You grimaced before kneeling by her side and patting her shoulder.
"Hey... Medb," you murmured as you rubbed her shoulder.
"I couldn't do anything. I thought I was ready to face him, I thought it'd be like every fight we get into. But... I like him. I really, really do but seeing him like that was just different," Medb said as she sniffled and shook her head, "My feelings. It's like a storm. I'm caught between fearing what he is now and loving what he was before. I don't know what to feel..."
You listened to her as she leaned her head on you. You sighed as you rubbed her head, "Rider..."
"Brie... Why am I like this?" Rider asked as she let out a shaky breath, "Why am I so fucked up?"
"Medb, you're not fucked up. Well I mean you are, but come on. It's not as bad as you think," you assured her as you tried comforting her.
"But I am. Even at this stage, this feeling for him is in deep. I... I don't know what to do," Rider breathed as her warmth spread to your body, "His Anger, his Madness, it's not something my Love can quench."
"What are you truly afraid of?" You asked her in a heavy tone.
"What I'm afraid of... Is losing you," Rider said as she held on to your jacket, her tears falling to the ground, "If you didn't exist and I had a different Master, I would have been overjoyed seeing him like that. But the first thing that came to mind back then... Was my Love and Fear. If he killed you, then I wouldn't know what to do."
You blinked at that as she raised her gaze before you recalled. In that dream, that Medb gave her love to that monstrous version of Cu Chulainn. She had offered him everything and loved him unconditionally, she was happy, cruel and ruthless to be the Queen to a Mad King.
But your Medb was different. She had you. That was enough of a factor to change her, to make her feel fear alongside joy. Medb was always just a shoe drop away from becoming that merciless Queen in your dreams... If she lost you then you don't know what she'll do in her last moments.
She'll vanish but not in a peaceful way. That Evil will surface and burst forth violently.
"If you didn't exist, I... Would have been okay. I wouldn't feel like this," Rider said as she held your arms, "But at the same time, I wouldn't have experienced the last few weeks as I had. Arguing, bantering, snuggling, talking, laughing, crying, I did all with you. You... Who didn't treat me like a Queen or an object of worship. You treated me as someone... As a normal girl. And I hate myself for thinking that I shouldn't have stayed with you. That I couldn't be free to Love Cu, that you existed to make me scared to lose you. I hate it... I hate it!"
Rider's magical energy spiked as she leaned on your shoulder.
"I'm the worst. Some Queen I am... Being swayed this easily. Risking your life for my feelings..." She grabbed your hand and raised it, "So... Please. Order me."
"Rider," you started before she held your hand tight.
"Order me to not freeze up and fight Cu without hesitation. Let me help you... Without messing it up. Take these feelings away, Brie. Or else I'll end up betraying you or even hurting you, I can't trust myself with this," Rider pleaded as she held your hand, "Use your Command Seal."
