Extra Credits: Extra Sci Fi

I'm kinda disappointed no one took up my holiday-induced slack.

But not surprised, since this thread seems fairly dead.

Anyways, the newest episode:

I'm getting the sense they like Clarke more than RAH or Asimov.

And again.

So, yeah, they definitely like Clarke the best.

Looking forward to next week, as I don't think I've ever read anything by Cordwainer Smith.

And it seems I was half-mistaken last week, as I have read "Scanners Live In Vain".
Did the emotional Scanner stop the inventor from being murdered in the end, or otherwise get his discovery public? It sounded like an interesting tale, and spin on space travel.

New episode, apparently the season finale:

Man, I hadn't realized Bester had done that much (though they used the wrong Green Lantern!)

New episode:

Which briefly touches on the crucial question of does discussing Tolkein, who's work was fantasy, constitute "network decay". I can't help but feel that they dodged said question rather than answered it.

New vidya:

Welp, if you didn't like 'em talking about LOTR, cuz fantasy, you're in luck cuz now they're talking about Dune.

(though I did once have a debate with a Hardhead who insisted Dune wasn't really SF. But, well, Hardheads, right?)

Well this is embarrassing; a new episode dropped four days ago, and I only just noticed it:

It's an interesting observation I've not thought of before, but I feel like they kinda de-emphasize the extent to which Leto's advisers allowed their distrust of Jessica to blind them to the true traitor.

I'm kind of annoyed that they name-checked The Windup Girl as an example of ecological scifi, because I thought that book had an incredibly stupid premise with terrible science.

They better feature Michael Moorcock then. His History of the Runestaff series is literally set in a postapocalyptic world, the Elric Saga straight has an apocalypse happening during the final book, the world of Jerry Cornelius is getting real close to an apocalypse, and the godlike Denizens of the End of Time are partying while the universe ends around them.
