You would probably have noticed. If he could manipulate you that much, you'd have no hope of denying him anything anyway, plus any hostile manipulations by Nyarly definitely falls under the heading of "Things ablative Limit armor should stop".

This isn't intended to be a trivial choice. I'm afraid that Nyarly has a point, although not a very humanlike one - hell, in Amu's position he'd quite likely convince me. Your OOC information on him is... slanted.

.... Maybe i am biased, but i don't think it is a good idea helping the guy which used the power granted by a prophecy and a single city to completely and utterly destroy the rest of the world.

It doesn't matter how much he does seem nice and reasonable: he is all the negativity of humanity(Except the parts which he had clearly shed around to have more chances to destroy the world and free himself), he isn't nice nor reasonable.

If the Ebon Dragon was still around they would go together like butter and toast!

[X] I will make my own way, a way to protect everyone, to let them pursue their dreams without forcing one on them, to let them live. Neither you nor Kagutsuchi are really human, you won't understand, even if you mean the best for them, it is not what humans want or need.

Nyarly will ask you what, precisely, your way is.

Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.
It, um, may well take that as a "Yes". All sentient beings, indeed.

Hmm, so with that:

-[X] I need to know more, a lot more. I know what people want, but you know what can be done about it. Teach me.

Wait a moment everyone: i found the Perfect Write in:
[X] PHILEMON PLEASE HELP US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or alternatively:
[X]Exaltation: be on-line again.

I don't know, I've always been against making split second decisions. If its reason is really all that good, then surely it will be something most can agree with in the coming weeks when you ask around and all that. And if anything checks out after all that, one can always go for it then, no?

If we agree to get Nyarlatothep as a teacher we must find a way to contact Philemon, and get him too as our teacher. No if, no buts.

I still think in Amu terms it would be better to say that it's better not to trust strangers and to keep some distance and not agree to anything such strangers suggest. Especially not ones who try and offer you good sounding deals. I'm sure her parents have said something about that before, and I imagine her previous experience with Easter and other recent event should have made her some what weary of such figures after all.

Okay, so, original Reason: Optimus Prime was, as people pointed out, just a variant of the Neutral Path. So, I decided to update it a bit with the ascension stuff I mentioned earlier.

[X] Reason: Neutral Path: Freedom for Humanity Through Mass Ascension

Main Objectives:
  • Return world to its state prior to Conception
  • Figure out a way to make it so nothing like this can happen again, by changing humanity so that it is powerful enough to survive beyond the world, so that this can't happen again. I'd prefer to do this by sundering the Sidereal Shard into Mage Avatars, but whatever works.
Every person has the right to their own life, a right to walk the path they love most, regardless of where it leads them. Sometimes these paths lead to Conflict, sometimes to Harmony, but always to where the journeyman (or woman) wishes wishes to go. We have no right to stop this, no right to change the paths of others, nor does anyone else. But when Hikawa initiated the Conception, he destroyed most paths, and bound the rest into a game that they have no knowledge of or Reason to play. There is only one right thing to do: We must restore the world as it was, reversing the Conception and the destruction it caused, so all the people of the world can walk their own path, with any who wish to walk beside them.

And yet . . . if we merely reverse the Conception, we are back at square one. Some other super-power could still swoop in and end us, or we could get the events of Devil Survivor, or if nothing else, this whole thing will repeat again in six millenia. Regardless, the world ends. So, ultimately, we are doomed; no matter what we do, it will never stop. The best we can hope for is an eternal status quo, where the world comes to the brink -- or passes it -- and then is pulled back by some hero or group thereof. We must accept this, for our powers are limited, and we can not hope to fight the big fish of the universe.

You know what I say to that?

FUCK. THAT. SHIT.

We are Exalted. We are the Chosen of the Unconquered Sun, the guy who could have solo'd the Primordial War if he hadn't been bound by geas. We are His spear, His warrior-general of every battlefield, imaginable or not. Limitations are for other people. Giving up and accepting the status quo is for other people. We will not accept this. We will bring the world back, every man, woman, and child, every animal, plant, insect, and fungi, every amoeba, and then we will make sure this utter bullshit never happens again.

But how? How can we do this? The problem is that humanity is stuck in this world, this island on the Sea of Amala, and cannot survive beyond it. So, we must help them grow beyond this island, to metamorphose themselves so they can survive beyond this prison, this Soul Cage, so they can embrace true freedom in the eternity beyond, free from worry and death and loss and being squished by a passing Power.

We need to Ascend Humanity to a higher state of existence. That is the only way they can be free and safe.

So, what do people think? This is literally my second write-in, the first being Reason: Optimus Prime, so I'd like to hear any suggestions on fixing it. As for Nyarly, my earlier response (Ha ha ha NOPE) was my response, not my suggestion for Amu's. I'm all for seeking him as a teacher.

Didn't Nocturne have a whole thing where the character went through the game, hearing the pitches from both sides?

I think Amu simply doesn't have enough information. Is something along those lines a choice here?

Also, I think these write ins are kinda of massively constraining by being so detailed about everything. The more details you add, the more likely something is going to go wrong because you specified stuff.

Being poetic about things has burned me in a lot of quests in the past. If you can't sum up your points clearly and concisely, you might want to try making a list so that there's no confusion as to what you're trying here.

We need to be incredibly wary about agreeing to anything here though. One of the biggest things on the list of "what can get past an Exalt's defenses" is "consequences of stuff that they agreed to".

See the botches when you break an Eclipse's oath, which you can't really defend against.

According to the Wiki, the Demi-Fiend was part demon, and so couldn't make a Reason of his own. Hence the going around and hearing pitches, it was the only way to get something done.

Ah, thank you, that makes sense.

I made an edit to my last post clarifying what I was talking about. I understand what you're trying for with these really long reasons, but I think they would be a lot better if you could sum up the points in an easily understandable manner so that there's less room for creative interpretation.

Basically, tell the GM what you are trying to do. People can have different understandings of the same text, and the more eloquent and poetic you get the more likely something gets screwed up in translation.

You can include the big speech afterwards, but its less damaging if you find your poetic language resulted in something really bad happening inadvertently.

All this Reason Optimus Prime nonsense sounds like what Nyarlohtep's Reason so I guess I am voting [x]Accept the Reason of Nyarlohtep
Seriously?

He's bad. He's really really bad. He's the sum total of all human negativity. He's basically the snake in the garden of eden right now. He's saying stuff, but he's not saying everything, and it's the missing parts that are really important.

E: Removed specific wording

[x] Do not take a side knowing so little. Neither accept nor reject the offer.

That's my choice for now. Amu simple does not know enough (about the cosmology, about the players, about the stakes) to make such a momentous choice right away. All this huge write ins are being written from (at least partial) ignorance of the intricacies of the setting, which is actually kind of appropriate considering how ignorant Amu is, so the best way to avoid making a huge mistake right off is to not commit to anything.

There's probably something wrong with my choice and I encourage people to bring it up, but I feel like there's a lot of people diving straight ahead on scarce amounts of information.

I know how bad he is but, Amu does not and his Reason seems to be kill Kagutsuchi and all these votes for Reason Optimus Prime are probably going to make us follow the Nyarlohtep path anyway.
Defeatism is bad. It's self propagating because bandwagons easily gather momentum and thus it screws the quest over.

A lot of votes for a bad choice does not mean you should also vote for a worse choice, it means you should look for something better.

Like (hopefully) my neutral choice, which doesn't commit us to supporting the sum total of human negativity or supporting Kagutsuchi out of hand based on the minimal knowledge of a gravelly injured child whose mind is so battered she cannot even comprehend her native language.
