[Exalted/SMT] Shard of a Broken Sun

Does't quite work like that. You can do a lot of freaky shit, but the moment you stop having a human soul under it, the Exaltation falls off.
You know, I've heard that before, but can you reference it? The only example I know of is K'Tula (I think that's here name . . . the lady who turned herself into an octopus during the First Age), and from what I understood it wasn't so much that the exaltation left her as it was that most of her charms stopped working for her suddenly non-human form. So, she ended up having to crib off of Kimberey to get workable charms by way of Primordial Principle Emulation, which is itself a Solar charm and would logically be inaccessible to a non-Solar.

That's not what the update says. You can handwave it as this not being pure Exalted canon or the exaltation being damaged or whatever, but that's not what's going on here.
You don't have to. The events you have witnessed today are sufficiently abnormal, for a human, that she only barely counts as human enough to exalt. In fact, the scales are weighed evenly enough that it's your conscious decision that will decide. Undoing the exaltation is impossible, short of death, and even if the scales should shift further that will not weigh on your behaviour afterwards.

It still says she's Human enough to Exalt. I don't get what you're not getting.
Human enough to exalt, barely, which is a far cry from inhuman enough that the exaltation would break. They're two different thresholds, and the latter is far harder to reach; consider that even Devil-Tiger builds don't do it.

The exaltation shard doesn't like to cancel exaltations, therefore it's careful about whom it exalts in the first place. Or, if you like, Autochthon built it that way.

It's true, however, that Dream-Affirming Projection is already enough to render her ineligible. No matter, that threshold isn't currently relevant.

Anyway, I have one free starting charm slot, intended for the "analysis arts, to help the host (And by extension, ourselves) get a grasp on the nature of these aggressors." request.

I'm not sure what charm to put there; the only one that pops out at me is Spirit-Detecting Glance. An occult exellency might also work. Suggestions?

Unfortunately Triumphant Howl of the Devil-Tiger requires that we buy the charms of two different yozis, so even by buying Primordial Principle Emulation we cannot try to create a solar version untill we have essence 7, which requires being at least 250 years old.

I'll trust you on that. I have no idea what most Charms do... on a related note Excellencies give one auto-success per rank in their attribute, right?
First Excellency gives you one extra die per mote dumped in. Up to double your base pool.

Second Excellency gives you one success per two motes, up to half your base pool in successes.

Question, how is Amu getting Instant Treatment Methodology when she doesn't have Flawless Diagnosis Technique?

Saturday's Eclipse 4
[X] Exaltation time (Plan Alectai)

The cat-demon hissed, but didn't jump. She stared, every detail of the thing burning its way into her memory as it ran towards the main fight.

Exaltation: Enable
Screams echoed from behind her. Half frozen and half panicked, Miki and Su spinning like tops and scanning for danger in every direction, it took an effort of will to make herself turn back to the fight instead of running away, one that only succeeded by thinking of the ones caught up in it. Vaguely, she saw the cat-demon running off towards the fight, even as the person who summoned it threw frequent glances in her direction.

Primary essence link: Stabilised, inactive
But what could she do? Her attack hit the demon like a physical force, the first time that had happened, but it didn't seem like more than an inconvenience.

Secondary essence link: Stabilised, inactive
Run for help? People were being hurt, right now. People were dying. There's no time, they'd never get here in time, and what would she say?

Priority incarna link failed, no route to destination
Initiating full system check
Fight them? Which group? She didn't understand, but the way that fight was going… if she pretended it was all a computer game… the uniformed group (Police? Military?) were containing the others, but there was a third person in the middle, one with a far stronger demon. Or just a demon, and no person.

System check complete, shard #60 operational
Entering contingency mode Z3
She didn't know which group was in the right, but she knew which one was hurting people. The smaller demons, which the uniformed group had summoned - that's what it looked like, at least - were focusing on the single larger demon. That one, like some kind of evil dragon, or snake, was slaughtering the people around it.

Primary essence link: Stabilised, active
She couldn't look, but she couldn't look away. It was fighting its way towards her, towards where the defenders were distracted - where she had distracted them - and the people it was killing were also trying to fight their way out. Some did push their way out, which just opened the gap larger.

Violence, in the real world, was…

Nothing like it was on TV…

Primary essence link: Flooding
Exaltation: Initiate
The world abruptly turned golden, and Miki shouted something. "Amu, ju-"

The world turned gold, then faded into utter darkness.

Su? Miki?

She tried to speak, but no sound emerged. She couldn't feel her body. She couldn't feel anything. Nevertheless…

We're here. What's going on? I can't see anything.

I'm not sure. What were you shouting about, Miki?

A kind of golden glow appeared around Amu, and I was trying to warn her. Do you know what happened to her?

What? But she - What do you mean? I am Amu.

There was a pause, before Miki's thoughts returned with a tinge of uncertainty.

You sound like Ran. Maybe it's because of the transformation? But if we're all here… what's happening out there?

Wherever "here" is.

She wasn't sure who 'said' the last bit, if it was her, Miki or Su, but she had to agree with the sentiment. Absolute darkness, no sense of her body. Was she…

Su's voice broke the silence, preventing her from finishing that thought.

Wait, something's happening.

A star had ignited in the darkness. It flared, growing larger by the moment, until it filled half the sky with a brilliant golden sheen. She knew she should have been blinded, and it was just a pure, perfect disk, but somehow it was the most wondrous thing she had seen in her life.

Then it flickered, faded. Dark spots formed on its surface, spreading and linking together until at last, with a final blast of brilliance, it shattered into a hundred shards that spread across the darkening sky, leaving her with a deep sense of loss. The light went out, but the shards continued into the deepening darkness.

One of them, in particular…

That's coming right for us, isn't it.

Miki, you…

Eep, Su finished concisely.

Reality turned white.

Saturday's Eclipse 4.2
Hear me, mortal of a far-off realm, and comprehend the death of a world.

Creation, which I was born to protect, has been destroyed. This I would not allow, so it cannot have died alone, and with my death my gifts will have been diminished. Diminished, but not destroyed.

Your exaltation is a gift, and a testament, that Creation shall not be forgotten. Use it well. Be the champion of your people, for it seeks out those in need of such a champion. Be a ruler, a warrior, or a peacemaker. But do not forget.

Saturday's Eclipse 4.3
Reality again faded to black, which started cracking like an egg breaking open. She could almost feel her body again, and she realised she's still right where she was. Considering that she'd been standing in a tree, that's a good thing; falling would have hurt, to say nothing of the danger. Something felt different, though. She couldn't put her finger on it yet, but something was definitely different, and it was almost definitely related to what that voice was talking about. She'd have to think more about that later; there's no hurry, she didn't think she'd ever forget that experience.

The blackness was turning into more of a dark grey. Cracks kept forming, spreading and covering her entire sight, every new set slightly lighter. The fight seemed to be going in slow motion, although it was gradually speeding up, so she decided to try something.

Miki?

.҉̛͘.̸́̕͢.̸̡̡c̴͢͜a̵̡͘͟ǹ̛́҉'̸̸ţ́ ̵̛͞q͝͏҉i͘͜t͏͏è̶͝͡.̴̢͏.͏̨.̴͟

She supposed that would have been too much to hope for. The attempt seemed to jog something, though, and a third voice spoke up; not one of her Charas, sounding more like a kind of schoolteacher, but all the more startling for sounding right in her ear when as far as she could tell reality was still moving in slow motion, and she couldn't hear anything anyway. Plus she was in a tree.

Actually, she didn't think that was her ear, it just felt that way. Like Miki and Su.

It started in on what sounded like a prepared speech.

Okay... Just one moment... All right! Can you hear me? Perfect! Okay, there's not a whole lot of time to explain, and I promise to get right down to it soon, but we need to sort this problem out first. I'll get to the introductions when we're out of danger--right now, we need to get this whole situation under control and try to reduce further casualties... You should be able to convince the... they're some kind of police or military force based on their uniforms? Anyway, you should be able to convince them to stop focusing on you for now, and if we can go that far, we should be able to team up with them to beat that monster that just showed up. It'd be dangerous to try helping others while it's on a rampage like that, so we need to slow it down first. If you've got anything you can throw at it? You should be able to slow it down so the professionals can deal with it.

Once that's under control, I'd suggest switching out with Su, you should have the ability to stabilise anyone who can be saved once the big monster's no longer causing trouble. If we work fast enough, we can minimise the damages!

There was only one possible response to that.

What?

The voice cut off for a moment, then returned. It should be fairly instinctive. I guess if you have no idea what I'm talking about… for now just follow your instincts, I'll get back to you in a second. Focus on what's happening outside.

That… was probably a good idea; the fight was almost back to full speed, now, and she could see the layers of her - eggshell? - flaking off from the outside, some of them bouncing off the tree as they fell and exposing a golden outside. They didn't seem to be quite physical, some of the smaller ones evaporated into thin air while still falling, but she had a strong feeling that whatever had happened to her wouldn't go unnoticed. Fortunately they seemed very focused on the greater, dragon-like demon right now…

She could do something, now. She felt stronger, and surer on her feet; as much stronger as transforming with Ran usually made her, but over again. There was a pool of energy inside her, which she instinctively understood she could use for various purposes - the voice had been right about that. Her mind moved faster, and she understood what was going on with the fight at a single glance. Distantly, she realised there was something wrong about all of this, but in the moment it was too exhilarating to worry about.

They'd probably start worrying about her the moment they could stop worrying about the demon, and if she hadn't completely misunderstood the kind of organisation she was looking at here, that worrying might involve more demons. Then, the fastest way to avoid a misunderstanding was to make sure they'd see her as an ally, and the enemy of your enemy…

Pulling out about a quarter of the strange energy, she joined it with another of her heart-mending beams, carefully aiming the whole concoction at the dragon in front of her. Her previous attack had only staggered the cat-demon, but almost all of it had missed; this one, she was sure, would hit squarely. Her target was barely moving, and she couldn't afford to miss; every moment that passed, someone's life might be ending.

A pink beam, shot through with gold, arced through the air. It might have been her imagination, but it seemed like the air itself burned away from its passage. Regardless of that, it was a solid hit, and the demon screeched -

The air seemed to ripple, a wave of darkness crashing over her. She reflexively protected herself, burning away half the remaining energy in the smaller of her two pools, but no-one else was that lucky; about half the demons fighting the dragon, and most of the humans, turned to run.

"Amu…"

She glanced to her right, only to see Miki holding on to the tree, shivering and on the verge of tears. She was physically holding Su in place, the latter was trying her hardest to run away. That's when the voice spoke up again; to her relief, she had to admit.

Sorry to keep you waiting. This is a bit of a pinch, but I've seen worse. Here's what we're going to do:

[ ] Figure out what exactly you are fighting.
[ ] Try to break the rout.
[ ] Help Miki and Su, Dream-Affirming Projection may reduce the fear effect.
[ ] Write-in

You may wish to do more than one of these. In that case, make sure you mention what order would be preferable, keeping in mind that the situation will evolve over time. In general I would suggest you try to advise, not give single-sentence commands.

If there are events where you'd like to break the scene for another vote, that's fine. If you'd like to tell me how to handle them up-front, and get longer snippets, that's also fine. Either way, keep in mind that talking to Amu is distracting to her.

Oh, and just so I remember: Essence pools are currently 5/35.

[X] Figure out what exactly you are fighting. Figuring out what Amu's Heart Beams consist of should also help with this.
[X] Help Miki and Su, Dream-Affirming Projection may reduce the fear effect.

Somehow, I'm not surprised you managed to squeeze in there.
I can't help but feel that 3rd post with the Gold Text is incomplete. Maybe something along the lines of "You. Are. Exalted!"?

Either way I'm waiting for Alectai, I don't know enough about the Charms. Actually on that note, can we que up Charms for her to use?

I had the same feeling, though not with that precise line. I'm afraid I'm not much of a speechwriter, therefore neither is the Unconquered Sun. If it helps, let's pretend he wasn't paying much attention when he wrote that speech; it was never supposed to be needed, and he had a war to organise.

I don't see why not. She's not required to follow your instructions, but right at the moment I think she'd be glad for the help.

But it feels more ominous like that, doesn't it? So I'll leave it for now.
Yeah, leave it. It's amusing. :p
