[Exalted, ?] Most High

Changing to
[X] Brink of Death
[X] Procure the Funds

Now that I know more about how exalted combat works, this is less risky than it seemed.

A short one, but meh. I'll keep churning out more Workings until everyone is sick of them.

Essence-Body Framework

The thoughness of the Solar Anathema is fearsome stuff of legends, but still limited. This can be reinforced further by making the framework of their already extremely resilient essence pathways even more hardy by sorcery, to the effect that the failing flesh can keep itself together past even the Solar super-human resilience without any additional effort, and even further than by a small exertion from the Solar.

The Solars -4 health levels are extended by adding more of them by his current Resistance + Essence times. In addition, the recipient of the Working can commit up to his Resistance times 1 mote per 2 additional temporary -4 health levels to gain them reflexively.

A thought: are the visual effects from brink of death going to be problematic? More so than the Crown of Metis? We don't have the actual evocations for the armor, but I'm assuming this is an adamant evocation.

Proper selection of the thematic effect may be rather important here.

[X] Remain Uninjured - No, you will not embrace this power. You haven't the need for it. Let it come in battle when you are truly injured; otherwise, you are plenty capable even without it. Maximizes your tankiness, no inhuman aspects gained.

With Procure the Funds, can we use a Prophecy to ensure the ease/lack of detection for our heist, or is that assumed already? "House SomeoneWhoHatesUs will be exceptionally busy and vulnerable to undetected infiltration on DateOfTheft, while coincidentally having coffers even more full than usual" seems like a reasonable one there, assuming that we can get enough intel on our enemies to pull that off and turn an overall profit.

Or just target the Guild, though they probably have more silver than jade in their reserves. But yeah, with the Sundial Throne, throwing one prophecy to that direction might be feasible, even with the on-going Grand Heresy. But only maybe, as it could still have a negative impact on one of our more important main actions, at which Rihaku informed our chances of succeeding being not guaranteed at all.

On more how to exploit getting bonuses from the normally negative wound penalties: Wound-Knitting Excercise -Charm heals only -0 health levels, balancing its speed in a normal situation by leaving the maluses from greater damage untouched. With Brink of Death however, we could heal all the -0 levels and still get the bonuses from -4 reaching wounds. This would maybe get us closer to something approaching the Wounded Edge -level of durability.

Again, however, we would still have to buy the Charm first, which would require getting the Ox-Body Technique and two more before it, which would probably overlap with the Sable Scale's Evocations at least some amount. Maybe not worth it, but something to think about. And at least that one extra -0 health level from OBT per Charm purchase would be useful in this case (even if the extra -1 and -2 health levels are still wasted).

I was remembering the whole "not enough thread activity" thing a while back so I put up a rec on Tvtropes for Most High on the Exalted fanfic recs page if anyone wants to start a trope page for the quest

[X] Wounded Edge - Use the Scales' Health Level boosting options to gain a bevy of -2 Health Levels. You will remain at the -2 wound level at all times, giving you a persistent +2 bonus to all actions, and +2 to all your Defenses - a considerable bonus, equivalent to the supernatural attributes of the Fae. A good balance of tankiness and power.
[X] Procure the Funds - You will have to write-in an option to procure the necessary funds, be it by taking a loan or stealing from some sufficiently wealthy entity (only powerful Great Houses and the very richest Threshold Nations would qualify - well, and the Realm Treasury, of course). Since you have access to powerful transportation and teleportation magics, we will simply abstract this as a Difficulty 20 Larceny roll - risky, but with only a small chance of failure if you stunt well. The Knight of Jade is by far the most powerful administrator you could acquire, given its focused specialization on the subject of Luseng, total lack of non-you commitments, and 3CD-level strength. However, if you only barely pass the Larceny roll, do not expect to escape all the consequences of your staggering heist (enough money to raise 2 fully manned and equipped Legions).

It looks like Procuring the funds is winning so are there any good ideas for getting that money? Perhaps taking it from the fae or redirecting some of the Realm's taxes.

As an idea for what wounded edge/brink of death aesthetic might look like, perhaps some inspiration from our Abyssal friend. After all if all his blood is being drained into his armor he'd presumably be quite pale so Ulyssian could probably pull off a vampire lord sort of look. Not sure if it's the way I'd like to go but it's probably a decent option.

I would prefer the red option but it doesn't look like it can win from that last tally and ignoring this option would be a bit of. A waste considering how big of an advantage it is

Precure the funds is agood choice two as we are very good at larceny, anyone have any ideas of who to rob? House that hates us maybe?

Edit: switching to empower moon as argument below me is right and it's a massive risk

I'm a little leery of Procuring Funds, because the option entails taking a fairly enormous risk, no matter what we do; there is simply no safe way to acquire that kind of jade in that kind of timeframe. It distracts from our immediate focus on administrative efficiency, which was the purpose of Standing Alone in the first place, and doesn't even give us another Working for our trouble; it just acquires the materials for a later one that we may not even have the chance to enact. That's on top of whatever consequences stealing from Cathak, angering the Guild, or plundering the Mountain might incur, even in the event of a successful heist.

We can choose from a selection of aesthetics, but taking on some inhuman attributes is necessary. It's the price of persistent excellence; we have to diverge from Solar thematics to access that power.
Note that that simply means we won't be able to create Solar charms that rely on or directly take advantage of the alterations we get. So no charms for making our tail lethal but we still can do anything we previously could without any penalty.

Really that is a buff because it is letting us do something Solars aren't normally capable of.

What's the present vote count? Thanks!

Also a thing I just noticed:

You might want to fix that, because its an impossible action. Not even the Solar Circle Sorcery can make Uly laugh. :p

You fool! You have steered him away from the secret slice-of-life option!

Indeed, though you can possibly wave it off as an effect of the armor.

You can if you want to, but it's kind of a waste of time. You do have plenty of time, but spending a subjective day just to modify one Larceny roll incurs a high opportunity cost in lost administrative actions, and you have plenty of actions to take even in quick time.

Hm, perhaps it would be best to merge it with the Odyssey and note that it's being continued, while removing the part that says The Odyssey is inactive and switching the link to the new thread?

Really that is a buff because it is letting us do something Solars aren't normally capable of.

Pretty much, yup.

[X] Empower Moon

Going to keep voting for this until we actually do it. Also, it's cheaper and doesn't require an independent action to even get the money for it.

Hmm. One best ways to succeed in the heist would of course be getting the right Charms for it. Master Plan Meditation in particular would be useful, and it is available for us without any further prerequisites as we have Unshakable Rogue Spirit, as it is in turn a prerequisite for Fate-Shifting Solar Arete.

MPM would be useful not only for criminal activities, but also for executing any infiltration plans, obtaining information without violence or other similiar activities. Really, it could be quite good addition to Uly's arsenal if he is getting a 3CD level co-administrator and has access to extremely potent travel spells, which means he can take even more of this kind of subversive activities.
