[Exalted, ?] Most High

Well, to be entirely fair, what exactly are we going to be using the sword for right now? We're going to be staying in Seacrown for a while anyways, yeah? So there's really no pressing need for it except for the inevitable showdown with Flame and Anys Syn. But... Well, even with Ambition or Away we probably couldn't take Anys Syn unless she's already weakened herself taking down Zao, and we can beat Flame without it anyways.

Besides which, Ivory is stronger than us- that's the whole reason we're not getting the blade immediately, so she can almost certainly do more good with it for the time being than we can anyways.

@Rihaku
Is the armor we get able to help us more able to blend in or is it a straight up ninja suit?

You don't automatically get the armor either, you need to learn Glorious Solar [Saber or Plate] to retrieve it.

Ah, she won't be our ally just yet eh?
Damnit, making its wielder obsessed with optimality would lead to this, aye.

Hmm, I am conflicted. Oh well.

No, she's your ally. But why would she give you a sword that she is already using, when she's the better fighter? It only makes sense to distribute resources in the optimal manner.

I'd be much more eager to get the sword if we'd picked something other than Disguise, yeah. As is, I don't see any reason to go after it immediately. If we're getting into fights so dire we need them, we have failed.

I don't see us needing any of our gear for a while, for that matter.

Actually, you guys have enough XP that if you spent it all on combat optimization, you would have a shot against Syn, especially if it's you and Zao. The main thing is that you'll need training time to spend it that efficiently, otherwise you're looking at the 100% surcharge. Well, it may be helpful to think of it not necessary as a surcharge, it's more like the ability to pay extra and ignore training time. Most Exalts can't do that, especially not to Uly / Ody's nigh-unlimited degree. Time is extremely precious, and the ability to just straight power up at ridiculous strategic speeds can offer opportunities that may well eclipse the value of the XP so invested!

This is a good point. If we're playing realm dynasty games while under heavy scrunity then I doubt we will have many situations where using a blade will be advantageous compared to social fu and politicking.

And it kind of is currently better for Ivory to keep the sword until we're stronger then her. She would get better use out of it. Plus this gives usthe opportunity to get another artifact.

Yeah, but the incarnae got stuck in the Great Game, Creation is only a-fifth and a-tenth of it was, etc.
Then again, Primordial mindset really is disfunctional vis-a-vis humanity... Though I guess as a Solar we can fix them, if the Infernals can?
Or do they don't in this edition?

Let's hope Zao can bullshit his way to "grant" Uly that artefact, etc.

You also forgot the Neverborn wanting to kill everything in order to die, the creation of Oblivion, the Deathlords (including Desus as the Silver Prince), Great Contagion etc

Hm... don't be so sure. Ulyssian is built for combat. He is a Dawn Caste. Zao isn't going to deploy you in an arena that wouldn't suit you at all. He has Nilul, Ivory, his battalion of highly-placed students, and himself for that. Given your capabilities, it makes much more sense to earn prestige and power through deeds, rather than schmoozing. It even has a bit more integrity!

Ambition does give you access to effects that improve your overall power. For example, you could use Beyond Perfection Ascendency to buy an E3 Awareness or Larceny charm!

I'm okay with Ivory keeping the sword, as even if it is not in Ulyssian's hands it will still work to further his goals. And a sword isn't that useful right now.

[X]Ambition
[x] -Ivory has it

Both swords are cool so I'd be fine with either of them winning, but I really want Ivory holding on to the blade as another sign of their connection, the fact that we'd get an extra artifact is also a pretty good bonus

Eh, fair's fair on not getting the sword until we surpass Ivory. In the meantime we do have access to other Artifacts for our needs, as a Dynast. Artifacts which are probably a lot safer to go about wielding on the Blessed Isle and in Seacrown. And I guess there's something else stored in the anima so that's far from a complete loss.

im laughing.

if pearl/ivory got ambition, there no way ulyssian getting the blade for YEARS.

She is a sidereal with ambition for 400 years + with minimaxing obsession thanks to the blade.

there is no beating her. she keeping the blade for the rest of the quest.

What a waste.

We're Odyssial. It won't take us that long.

Plus it's Ex3e. Solars are just plain better than Sidereals. Even more than in 2e.

I so unsure if we should go with her having it or not because I don't want to risk never getting to use the super sword in the quest. :(

Ulyssian, despite his brief foray into stealth and disguise, is primarily a combat-focused Exalt. I do think people are seriously underestimating the utility of the blade, especially in light of our current weakness in combat. Zao's going to send us into situations where we will undoubtedly wish we had the blade. Also, it's kind of unsatisfying to cede our N/A artifact blade that we spent three options on to someone else.

"Weakness." Ahahahaha.

Ulyssian is weak relative to uhm, vastly higher Essence Celestial Exalts? A tiny handful of Dragonblooded? Ligier?

Also if we have the armor in the anima it should certainly help playing Batman. So it's hardly a loss. And having the sword in reach should just motivate players to churn out works for XP to get it faster.

If that's your attitude you may as well leave, because you've got a fundamental misunderstanding of Ulyssian/Odyssial.

We... haven't even seen the Sidereal splatbook yet. That conclusion seems a mite premature.

Relative weakness, yes, compared to what we could be. I'm just trying to prepare for Zao throwing us into the deep end, and you know he will. Then there's Anys to consider; regardless of Ivory's recent change in allegiances, do we really think we can rely on her help against Syn?
