[Exalted, ?] Most High

People might remark on its power, but they can't use it, and even if it looks incredible, it's just an Artifact weapon. A really powerful one, but why wouldn't they let her use it?

It's made of pieces of recognizable things (sword banner of the Maiden of Battles, amongst others). Why would Anys not have yoinked it, or at least made a stink of it?

I'm only saying it breaks my suspension of disbelief, not that it can't be a thing. Especially if, when we build the sword, we account for it, even if it makes it weaker in another way.

If we can somehow get it to Pearl between using it ourselves in our final battle and before the final blow is struck, I'm sure we can manage for Pearl not to lose it.

I think you guys are just over thinking this a bit too much. Sure Pearl had the sword but GM fiat said that Ivory will have it now and is willing to give it back to us. Is why not get another artifact out of this?

I agree.

I just find, from a story telling perspective, it to be weird.

Guys I think we'll want our armor in our Anima

*One day, Odyssial finds a superlative blackened armor, forged of moonsilver, starmetal, and soulsteel. It offers peerless protection while aiding greatly in his covert endeavors. (Artifact 5 Heavy Armor)

Artificat 5

Peerless protection meaning we're less squishy

And most inportantly it aided greatly with our covert endeavors. Meaning it
could help us out with staying disguised.

With our Armor an our sword out combat potential goes up a lot. Which could help balance how disguise made us weaker then if we had gone for other options.

Rihaku could you please clarify on how the Armor helps out with covert endeavors.

Someone old enough to remember Odyssial might twig to the fact that 'hey, the reincarnation of his loyal companion has found herself in possession of his ridiculously killy blade a bunch of times' and decide to do something about it.

Why would they do anything about it? This is Exalted, people take weapons from dead enemies all the time. Their only option, even if they somehow suspected the One Ring-esque aspect, which would be almost impossible to detect, would be to not let her use it. Unlikely, given the disastrous state of Creation after the Great Contagion, and could very well carry its own risks.

No, it doesn't look like that. What could she gain by taking it? Denying the use of a artifact, incredibly powerful, to the defense of Creation? She can't use it.

I'm not saying it can't work, I just think Odyssial'd want to keep his grubby mitts on his most powerful weapon. Part of being competent is minimizing risks, no matter how unlikely they might be.

Actually giving Ivory the Sword would help justify where we got it from. Ivory gave it (back) to us. Also this will make it even more important to talk to Ivory to get our super kill sword back.

It's indestructible!
I rather assumed that it was indestructible. That wouldn't actually stop them from throwing it into Mount Doom though, would it? Or the Void, as the case may be. But then, apparently Odyssial always finds a way. ;)

'And so it came to be that the terrible Odyssial broke into Chejop Kejak's bedchamber while the latter was on the privy, to reclaim what Kejak kept hidden under his mattress.'

In any case, I assume by your response that such issues are handwaved. Plan "One Sword to rule them all" doesn't sound half bad in light of that.

GM signal says no traps or anything so I'm cool with going for broke. I guess I'll think of it as an additional part of the XP expenditure or something, it's just weird on a "something for nothing" scale. I'm apparently waaaaaaaaaay too suspicious :V. It also lets get around to actually being able to wield the blade (Solar melee whooooo) - it was a gift from a friend, even if that is a little weird.

In this case, yeah I'd try to have stored the armor or something and passed on the blade.

Yep Super Killy Sword AND an bitching armor that apparently helps out with stealth which makes it perfect for this situation we're in.

Even in the case of the blade being in our anima, we can just claim Zao gave it to us. He's a thousand years old, I bet he's got all kinds of artifacts lying around, claimed from one adventure or another. Nobody would so much as bat an eye at him gifting one to his successor.

Thinking about Ivory having the Sword is in a way fitting. After all it is because of Pearl that we even have the sword. It's because our relationship with her that it was upgraded to Artifact 5. She pretty much has the second strongest connection to the blade besides ourselves and was just as nearly as instrumental in both creating and enhancing it.

Then there's the symbolism in Ulyssian entrusting to Pearl and her incarnations. That sword is one of if not the strongest melee weapon in Creation. It falling into the wrong hands would be disastrous. It should be either stored in our Anima or with Lea. Both would make it secure yet Ulyssian sent it to Pearl. Despite the fact he had superior ways of safekeeping it he still sent his strongest weapon to Pearl because he simply trusted her that much and she did not fail him. All these Millennia, she kept it safe and out of the wrong hands. Even when she no longer remembered its significance. No wonder our bond was powerful enough to punch death and brainwashing in the face.

I'm seriously surprised people aren't' jumping to get two artificats when the GM okayed it and said no traps.

So as I break down the decision it becomes clear what's going on:

If we let Ivory have the sword, we don't have access to it until she thinks we're ready for it. However, we get Odyssial's crown, armor or ring in the mean time.

If we choose to store the sword in our anima, we have access to it when we have the time to pull it out but loose access to the other shinnies.

Artifact Update
Odyssial's blade, forged in the fires of countless battles, quenched in the freely-given blood of the Maiden of Battles, was ever his companion in the Age of Dreams. Through endless trials they labored together, always towards greatness. The path was not short, nor was it easy, but through the millenia they persevered. And in the end, they discovered greatness, perfection such as would daunt the wonders of the Age, and found it wanting.

What was its name, that sword of ten thousand endings?

[ ] Ambition - A gleaming longsword, double-edged, cut from a single faultless block of white orichalcum. For the value of its material alone, it would be priceless beyond measure. Ten thousand monsters from the Age of Titans were sacrificed on its pyre-forge, and the tallow of their primeval flesh burned away even the idea of impurity from the blade that would follow. In the light of dawn it flashes like bar of raw sunlight, light and heat and glory hammered into physical form. Whisper-sharp, it slides through solid steel as though it were parting silk.

The powers of Ambition reflect Odyssial perfectly. It is excellence beyond excellence, harder than the Sun, a peerless killing tool. Among all blades, Most High. It forges the path to victory, even in the most dire of circumstances: its Evocations are particularly well-suited to facing foes vaster than one's self, or numerous weaker enemies.

*Incredibly powerful and useful Evocations from a mechanical standpoint, near-flawlessly filling any holes in Odyssial's personal techniques, or even in the nature of Solar power itself.

*Naturally shines in situations that would otherwise be disadvantageous.

*The wielder of Ambition is driven always to great purpose. In a mortal's hands or a god-kings', the blade grants an unceasing perpetuity of will, such that the wielder will always be pressed towards self-improvement, and towards the same ultimate goals as Odyssial. They could even take up this blade with a desire to harm him, but through them, it would find a way to advance his greater agenda.

*In this way, the Lord Strategos may empower his lieutenants, from the lowliest squire to the mightiest Vizier, to face the greatest and most terrible horrors that this world can produce.

- Supreme power comes with somewhat limited themes. Prowess that transcends Perfection, as Odyssial transcended the Most High himself: that is its purview.

Example Evocations:

Terrestrial Evocation
, Saber-Mirror Shield - The character's Bulwark Stance (and Fivefold Bulwark Stance, if applicable) may reverse Onslaught penalties into bonuses. The more attacks he faces, the stronger his defenses become.

Celestial Evocation, Beyond Perfection Ascendancy - Once per Essence level, the character may treat his permanent Essence as one dot higher for purposes of learning a Charm. Ignore that Charm's training time. Knowledge of the Charm fades if the wielder is separated from Ambition for more than one month. This Evocation may be re-purchased upon unlocking an Adamant Evocation.

Adamant Evocation, Eightfold Immortal Bulwark - The character's Fivefold Bulwark Stance, Immortal Blade Triumphant, and Ready in Eight Directions Stance may be simultaneously activated with a single Simple action. This counts as a Form Charm.

---

[ ] Unnamed (Away) - A reaper daiklave, slightly curved, of unusual heft and killing power. Unadorned, it used to be simply Odyssial's favorite mundane sword. So many daevas fell to its edge, however, that it spontaneously acquired the traits of soulsteel. Starmetal and soulsteel alloyed in a single seamless metal, folded ten thousand times upon itself, once for each monstrosity Odyssial slew. The pressure of its advance buckles shields, shatters bones, and brought Titans to their knees. Runes of infinitesimal fineness are etched upon the flat of the blade, calligraphic depictions of a particular sutra. They are its only adornment. Its edge does not shine in any sort of light. The metal itself is matte. The hilt is undecorated and sparse. It is the part of Odyssial that destroys. That is all.

Odyssial did not name this blade, no more than one would name a limb. Colloquially, Pearl named it "Away," for the reaction of his enemies upon seeing it, for the status of those who had faced it, and because, no matter where Odyssial may go, no matter who he may face, he always finds Away.

*Unparalleled powers of reaving and severing. A weapon embedded in the idea of violence since the world was young.

*Immense destructive force allows the wielder to perform attacks of shocking obscurity or apocalyptic scale. Having slain both those who created this world, and those who threatened to unmake it, it is fully steeped, every molecule, with conceptual might. It is just a blade without name, but it is also a lever by which worlds are moved.

*Blessed by Endings, Battle, and Serenity, and containing the reified deaths of ten thousand daeva-lords, jouten, and giganoths, the unnamed blade is capable of a dizzying variety of effects.

*If use is attempted by someone who is not part of Odyssial, that wielder is not protected from the blade's destructive force. They may find themselves 'accidentally' losing limbs when they attempt to sever a nation from existence, for example.

- The philosophy of Odyssial is thus: murder your enemies before they know you oppose them. Attack from every possible angle. Break them with overwhelming force on every front. While broad and esoteric powers are in its domain, virtually all of the blade's effects focus on destruction. It defends, but often only in the sense that the best defense is a good offense.

Example Evocations:

Terrestrial Evocation, One Strike Kills
: The character's attack ignores half of enemy soak or Hardness. This Charm may be re-purchased upon unlocking an Adamant Evocation, allowing it to, at significant cost, ignore enemy soak or Hardness, even if such values are infinite.

Celestial Evocation, The Best Defense: The character may reflexively clash an attack from any range. This does not count as his action for the round. At Essence 4+, reduce the TN of his clash by 1, to a minimum of 4. At Essence 5+, the cost of this Evocation is reduced each time it is used in a turn.

Adamant Evocation, Masterstroke
: This attack does aggravated damage, and damage is doubled after it is rolled. If the enemy is permanently slain, and that enemy governs, administrates, manages, or oversees some domain, and his authority is widely recognized (though official legitimacy is less important), one aspect of that domain falls to ruin in a manner that benefits Odyssial. A general dies, and his army dissolves into chaos. The God of Pestilence falls, and disease rates plummet across Creation. These effects can be prevented or reversed by heroic action, with difficulty dependent on the strength of the being and the totality of his influence over the given domain. Battlefield-wide effects occur almost instantly, but Creation-wide effects may propagate over weeks.

[X] Family Time

I'm curious, and since we went with disguise may as well keep up relations with the house.

[X] Unnamed (Away)

I like it, it wrecks things super well, just the kind of thing I was looking for. I'm also a sucker for the whole 'killed so many things it became special' thematic.

[X] Ambition

Only annoyance is the fact its a longsword, not a Daiklave... Unless you mean its a basic Daiklave, just not a Grand, Reaper or other type of Daiklave?
