There was a moment of consideration before Gosrick decided, "And one last thing before you pigs go stuff your holes: because you were smarter than most, those of you who get through basic will start out as squad commanders. That's better pay and prestige, plus you'll have an arming serf to do your day to day shit work, and a personal slave assigned as your signing bonus. So whether you want to fuck 'em, sacrifice 'em to the Gods, or just have someone braid your hair, that's something to look forward too, but only if you get through this and don't make me toss your corpse into the void for being a disobedient shit. Got that?"
Hot damn that generous by Xianxia evil sect standards, usually you need to kidnap your own slaves. /s

If we were in imminent danger of our cultivation deteriorating then I assume (it might be useful to ask @Academia Nut here) that Yon would have noted it in the update. Longer term though, it's definitely a concern and I suspect even more seriously, many of the cultivation resources which are available are going to be quite heavily polluted with what could politely be called impurities. My motivation for putting Diamond Body first is that we're likely to find ourselves in some kind of Battle of Verdun style hellscape pretty soon, so simply upping our physical ability to survive and perhaps distinguish ourselves might be more urgent.

But Iron Kettle Belly is definitely going to be our USP longer term I think, if it helps us to refine chaos spawn or daemons without corruption. (The implicit alchemical knowledge Yon has from picking the Elixir may also be very useful here.) Thank god we picked it in character generation honestly, such an incredibly useful string to our bow.

Something something Strong Foundation something something.

My main worry is that, like...it seems somewhat unlikely to me, given that Yon has already been cultivating the Diamond Body for a while, that he's in a place in his cultivation where just, like, practicing with it will make him more durable, without needing to consume more qi-enriched food or drink. I expect that him spending free time on it will be him getting better at using his current level of durability and stamina, rather than heightening it.

The engine of Yon's progress needs fuel, regardless of which technique it's powering, and Iron Kettle Stomach is our method to improve the quality of our fuel.

For whatever strange reason we're apparently from a society under the thumb of Chaos but not indoctrinated by Chaos so they appear to be in the 'first taste is free' phase where the Cultists offer a bit of legitimate help to whoever starts power-walking down the path to damnation they set in front of us. It only ever gets worse from there when we're forced into zero sum power games with others of our rank being fed into the grinder to seek the favor of the gods.

And ethical issues and copes that we'll be a better slavemaster than others aside a slave not from our own world would be an invaluable source of information on how things work here.

There does seem to be a significant difference in the class structure, even if the theme is the same. Sects do have a relatively comfortable middle management tier and a collection of people around Elders who get to live privileged lives of luxury. The suffering is largely inflicted on the people on the bottom being ground down and the losers in various conflicts. Chaos has a few very fringe cultists who have just stuck their toes in who manage to get some benefit without being consumed, mostly those who live undercover in a non-Chaos society, but absolutely tears up everyone else regardless of how high they rank. From the Daemon Primarchs to Abaddon does it feel like any of them 'won'?

You might enjoy this fanfic for how it portrays an actual Chaos Cultist civilization as more than a non-stop orgy of torture and violence. It shows how people function while being warped by the corruptive influence of Chaos and living in a society where this warping is the norm.

Be all my sins (40k SI)

Crazy goth chick is dropped onto an Imperial planet during a Chaos attack. Things go about as...

It provides a pretty unique take on the concept by having the society of Chaos Cultists be more than a cliche stereotype that only functions by Word of God ignoring all issues of practicality or direct intervention by supernatural forces to maintain the status quo.

The Black Crusade RPG also provides some worlds that function similarly (there is a Tzeentch world dominated by sorcerers as the best example) but it doesn't go into detail or provide a narrative on what life would be like there.

To everyone voting, please have a note of caution that if Iron Kettle Belly gets two more votes then we'll end up with two "[X] Special" options in the lead, which I think is not ideal. We want to balance one cultivation option with one more practical one that makes us better at soldiering I think - I have already discussed why I think focussing on interpersonal skills makes more sense than weapon specialisations.

So please have a look at the tally and be mindful when voting - I think I may remove my vote for Iron Kettle Belly in a sec.

Fortunately, we don't have to worry about that; we can explicitly only get one Special option. If the two end up being the two highest-voted options, then I imagine the one with more votes will be picked and then we'll get the option with the third most votes.

Oh wait did AN already confirm that?

That's good news, now I don't have to go looking back for my previous vote lol

Let's see if Iron Kettle can take the lead people!

Get the protection against the Warp bullshit! There's no telling when we're going to end up in some crazy Chaos powered bullshit!

Go go Iron Kettle!

Don't listen to this corpse worshipper, ultimate slavery power is within grasp if only ate some demons raw without the iron kettle.

So... Iron Kettle is 6 away from Diamond Body, and Heavy Weapons is 4 away from Leadership. Given that...? Vote change.

[X] Special: Iron Kettle Belly
[X] Heavy Weapons

Given that taking a special option is locked-in, I think that, yeah, improving Iron Kettle Belly is going to be more important to us in the near term for econ reasons than Diamond Body.

Given that we're only going to be able to get one of Leadership/Heavy Weapons, I think I'd prefer Heavy Weapons.

We probably don't have the time left to turn this thing around on either of them, but....

Real close vote, at least. Definitely some fisticuffs in the boardroom, and I'd guess Yon is a bit split on where to put his free time as well.

Heavy Weapons and Communications got into a fight and knocked each other out - it was determined the guy who's name I'm positive they neither know nor care to learn would just be on his own for a free period.

Yon really wanted to do Iron Kettle, but saw how overly physical these guys were and decided that maybe it would be best to up his endurance now rather than later.

As I understand it this is what the Celestials think Yon should be focusing on, not what he's picking to spec into.
The special options are what Yon chooses to do if he's not given two specialties, since that gives him some extra free time to use for self-directed training and study. So the choice specifically between Diamond Body and Iron Kettle Stomach is one that Yon is making himself, not one that's being assigned to him.
